Current Croatian champions, Dinamo Zagreb and Croatian Cup champions Hajduk Split entered Maksimir in hopes of adding some new silverware to their already extensive collection of trophies.
Saturday marked the annual Super Cup competition where the two champions face each other to determine who is the stronger side. Dinamo was determined to win another trophy after a lackluster performance in this year’s Croatian Cup, and Hajduk was eager to prove that they are still a top club in the league.
The two teams have won the competition five times, and were both runners up three times. No other club has won the Super Cup since its inception in 1992.
Dinamo’s Duje Čop opened the scoring in the first half after a long bout of possession by the home team. Čop’s goal would allow Dinamo to take the lead into the second half until Dinamo defender Lee Addy took down Jean Evrard Kouassi in the penalty area. Ivan Čaktaš just barely got the ensuing penalty shot passed keeper Pablo Migliore, who guessed correctly, but was unable to make the save.
With the score tied after 90 minutes, penalties were necessary to determine a winner.
Dinamo players went four-for-four in PK’s with Josip Šimunić, Duje Čop, Alen Halilović, and newcomer, Domagoj Antolić all scoring from the spot, but the real hero was also a newcomer to Zagreb.
Pable Migliore made his official debut and won his first Croatian silverware on Saturday with Dinamo. Migliore made a crucial save on Ivan Tomičić’s penalty attempt, after Goran Jozinović shot his penalty attempt off target.
Dinamo sent out several other players who made their debut with the club. El Arbi Hillel Soudani and Junior Fernandes both played their first competitive match with the club against Hajduk.
The 2013/14 HNL season will be starting up in the coming days. Dinamo open their season on Friday, July 12 against Osijek, and Hajduk will travel to Zadar on Saturday, July 13.
Dinamo: Migliore – Jedvaj, Addy, Šimunić, Ibanez – Ademi – Soudani, Brozović (od 90. Kramarić), Husejinović (od 68. Antolić), Fernandes (od 77. Halilović) – Čop
Hajduk: Kalinić – Vršajević, Milić, Milović, Jozinović – Anđelković – Kouassi, Pašalić (od 69. Susic), Caktaš, Mujan (od 85. Mikanović) – Kiš (od 55. Tomičić)
^^Drniški pršut^^
Dalmatinski prsut i paski sir. You can’t go wrong with that.
Jadan Hajduk.
I could go for some paski sir for lunch…
Bog i marenda, lijeni dalmatinci, paski sir i nezaposleni zivot…….Vino je nas!!!!
BOG I BREAKFAST BURITTO, PICKA MATERINU, RIJEKA I HNS!! KRUMPIR JE NAS!
For those of you complaining about the the state of the HNL and if it can ever get better…..Well, the short is answer is……NO. This is about as good as the HNL will ever be. Young talented players will continue to leave and that rate will now increase as a result of entering the EU. Former national team player Mario Stanic had a good column a few days ago about the exodus of young talent that will only continue.
Dinamo
SuperKup je has.
Most loved team in Croatia – GNK Dinamo.
Bog, Hrvati, Jadan Hajduk, Hns
indeed,poor Ziva.
And for others the quest for Istina lasts a life-time….
@Croatia vs.Antwerp-Sorry,not meaning to post as you,that was a accident.the above post was mine.
Don’t want to get too deep here,but in reality,there is only 1 istina,not several forms of it.Wise men can indeed see it,others think they can see their own variety in that dark place that is their own arsehole.
Cs Fola esch? Anyone ever heard of these guys? Apparently they won the Luxumbourg 1st division. I didnt know lux even had a professional league. And dinamo will play them in their second qualifying round.
We should be able to take care of these guys.
Yeah hajduk is committed to kids so they should let Igor Tudor them. To Make sure they learn how to read.
To All My Loving Followers , i’m sorry i did not chime in Yesterday about the game due to a Friends Great Wedding , but i’m Back ! WTF was that ? I thought the Most Loved Team in Croatia ( Hajduk) was to play Arrogant Mamic/dinamo for the SuperKup not some International Team from who knows where ! Did they even have 3 Hrvati on their Team ? Also i wonder Why some of Our Best Players like Vukovič did not even play ? Who knows with Mr. Money Bags arrogant Mamic around anything is possable ! Winning on penalty kicks with home field advantage is not that Great , but have fun anyways i guess ! THE REAL KUP JE NAŠ !! Naprid Bili , Hajduk i Torcida 4 Life !! Bog , Hrvati , Hajduk , i HNS !!!
@Faux Cro…….RNK Split are run and financed by the Zuzul brothers.
Some of you guys appear really high on the players Dinamo has brought in this summer. I’ve heard that before, but as I always say, I’ll wait and save judgement when seeing them play against quality sides. Jadan Hajduk is not quality.
If Hajduk is committed to the kids, then they should let Tudor coach all year and not fire him even if they are low in the table. I want to see Basic given a chance and see what this kid has. Who cares about Europa League spots. Cro teams are usually out of it by the end of July anyway.
@Anonymous ……….not really. However, I do wake and realize I am not wearing a jersey that glorifies another adult.
I wonder if ziva istina looks at himself in the mirror, takes a deep breathe, and says fuck yea i am ziva istina
Istina is in the eyes of the beholder….or in the reality wise men see….
@Matesic Methdod-“Somewhere between Homer and Ziva Istina is the Matesic Method”Well Sir,this is where the truth lies,so I will then tip my hat to you.This is where the istina really is.Notch it up too much from that point,and sadly,your head is in your arse.
Dinamo = Pure Class
Greatest Croatian team Ever!!
They gotta make the Champions League. They added some re-inforcements with the Algerian Soudani, Chiliean Fernandes, and brought in Kramaric from Lokomotiva. This Dinamo team looks solid.
I’m fired up for the up coming season. C’mon Let’s all root for Dinamo in CL qualifications, they represent Croatian football.
Super Cup je nas.
Dinamo = Croatia’s team.
Grow some sideburns, gel up a fauxhawk, talk with a German accent and put on a St. Pauli Jersey and you are his doppleganger.
As long as I don’t ask for his autograph or wear his name on my back, I should be ok. If I use him to pick up girls, I hope Ziva will give me a free pass.
Ziva might start calling you a jock sniffer, since you said something positive about a player.
Klasnic could probably make a decent career as a youth trainer in America when his playing career is over.
Seems like a personable guy with top flight club and NT experience.
His ex-wife / kid situation would probably stop him from coming to America.
Faux Cro – Two great questions. Don’t know the answers. I’ll take a stab at em though by saying Grenada are a newly-promoted team has been at or near the bottom of the La Liga table since they joined a few years ago. Not sure how much the spent on Kelava, but if they spent ANY money on him to bring him there, I’d imagine he will at least have a chance to be the number one keeper. As for the Split question, your guess is as good as mine. I’m not familiar with the ownership of RNK, but Hajduk is a publicly funded club if I’m not mistaken and is mostly owned/paid for by the city of Split, which might be their first problem. I’d imagine RNK is funded by investors, but it certainly doesn’t take too much capital to run a club of that size. They have a decent youth program which is where come of their talent comes from, and the rest is just bought on the cheap. I’m sure Dujmovic didn’t come with a high price tag. He’s like 33, has been playing on second-rate Russian clubs for a few years, and probably just wants to be closer to home, and be in a warmer climate.
Ivan Klasnic is not only welcome onto my hometown club, but he would be welcome in my home anytime. I’d love to see him have a crack at it in America. There’s plenty of old Euro players in that league. He’d fit right in, make a livable salary, and enjoy the sun, beach, bars, and girls that St. Petersburg has to offer. I would be his wingman any day of the week.
Does anyone know where Ivan Klasnic is going next season?
@Colin:
Maybe you can get him a tryout at the Rowdies and you guys can look for girls together.
How can RNK pay former NT players when Hajduk can’t keep their lights on?
Thanks Colin.
I just Binged it. He went to Grenada?
Is he going to be backup GK? Do you think he can hack it in a legit league? Getting out of Zagreb might be good for him.
Dujmovic seems like a decent guy, but I guess his career and NT career are essentially over.
Migliore is the new keeper. Kelava is playing in Spain now.
Ziva – There was 13,000 at the match. Security turned away thousands (I’ve been told) at the gates (mostly BBB) who are apparently now on a list that bans them from Maksimir for one-and-a-half years.
Hajduk will be as jadan as last season. I almost view this as a preseason match, and didn’t really matter. Wedding boy didn’t play, which didn’t help Hajduk, but yes, they overachieved and got lucky to make it into penalties. If it wasn’t for the fairly reckless tackle by Addy, it would have ended after 90 minutes with a Dinamo win.
In other news, Tomislav Dujmovic joined RNK Split this week. Going to be a few more competitive teams this season.
@Matesic Method:
I am probably right about where you are in the homer spectrum.
I usually agree with Ziva, but he can be snarky.
@GN …What?
Dinamo is the Croatian club. Always had been.
Dinamo’s roster is looking very international.
If an Algerian does not go to France there must be something wrong with them.
Is the Argentine keeper replacing GPS?
It looks like Hajduk is the Croatian club.
Hajduk will be fine, probably squeak out a euro spot. But the team is defiantly lacking in depth. In the kup game the stand out performers for me were, Kouassi, Andelkovic, Kalinic, Milovic, and Jozinovic.
I like Tudors style to make sure of ball movement and constant pressure. I also liked that he had the balls to Sit Blazevic, Maloca, Vukovic, something Miso wouldnt do.
The Prva HNL will defiantly be exciting this year…Dinamo, Rijeka, and Split all improved, while Hajduk is becoming weaker, but in a positive way (Playing the tici).
Anything above 4th is overachieving.
Ziva Istina is like a god on this website. all bow down to ziva istina
@ Faux
Well said.
@ Ziva
Somewhere between “homer” and “Ziva Istina” is the Matesic Method.
Even if they went to penalties Dinamo won the Super Cup. I ain’t complaining. Because Super Cup je nas.
@Faux Cro-You are quite correct.
They overachieved given their roster and underachieved given that they did not include their best players.
Also, I am looking at the poll result. Who are the people who think Cro underachieved at the youth WC????
I was away for the holiday weekend so I didn’t watch the game.
So, a few questions to all of you who did watch and can answer question objectively and without the homer glasses for either side (otherwise known as the “ziva istina” way).
is this a good sign for my jadan hajduk? Will jadan hajduk not be as jadan (jadni) this season????
How about Dinamo???? Going to PKs against a team that had so many young kids is not really a good sign, is it?
it’s early and one match is never a good sample size.
Did jadan hajduk play well or were they lucky to get a 1-1 result in regulation?
I also read that less than 15K for the match at Maksimir……Kind of disappointed so many people showed up. I was hoping for less.
SuperKup je nas.
Bog, Hrvati, Mamic, arrogant Cico, Hns.
