Another exciting edition of the Eternal Derby is in the books!
Statistically, Dinamo absolutely dominated the first half of the match with 9 shots and 73% ball possession. Baturina, Ademi, and Špikić created chances from every angle of the pitch, but Petković again struggled to find the back of the net. Hajduk took advantage of Dinamo’s poor finishing in the 45+2′, as Jani Atanasov hit a beautiful strike past Dominik Livaković from about 25 yards out. Although the goal was completely against the run of play, Hajduk entered halftime with a 1-0 lead.
In the 61′, brand new signing Chidozie Awaziem made a mistake that will haunt Hajduk fans for the remainder of the season. The defender gave the ball away in the middle of his own box, and 19 year-old wunderkind Martin Baturina made him pay by blasting the ball into the top of the net. Only three minutes later, Dario Špikić pinged a gorgeous cross to Arijan Ademi who headed home to take the lead. After the captain’s finish, everything fell apart for Hajduk.
In the 84′, Baturina and Stefan Ristovski combined for a beautiful play which resulted in a two-touch finish by substitute Amer Gojak. Dinamo sealed the victory seven minutes later as Mislav Oršić beat Lovre Kalinić with a deflected shot into the bottom left corner. Hajduk put up a good fight, but Dinamo completely dominated the match from the first whistle.
Hajduk insider Pave Alebić gave us his thoughts on the derby. “First half went as perfect as it could have for Hajduk, Dambrauskas went with a defensive/counter-attack approach and it paid off. But in the end, Dinamo was by far the better side for the entire half. Lovre Kalinić was unstoppable in goal and kept the game tight, and the Čolina clearance off the post was pure luck. Dinamo could have easily been up a goal or two at the half but the cards were not in their favor. Atanasov’s lovely goal came at the perfect timing, right before the halftime whistle which should have given the boys momentum going into the second half. Unfortunately, that second half was all Dinamo. The four-minute collapse when Dinamo took the 2-1 lead (right as Hajduk made 3 subs) made it a very difficult final 30 minutes. If Awaziem doesn’t make that “Harry Maguire” type mistake on the first goal, maybe the game goes in our favor. But this is footy and you cant go based off of what ifs. Hajduk had a couple chances to tie it at two a piece, most notably Livaković’s poke on the Livaja chance, but it just was not meant to be. From then on out, it was all Dinamo and they punished us 4-1. In the end, the better side won, and the difference in quality was clear”.
Alebić’s Five Key Takeaways:
- Letting Baturina go at a young age will be another Modrić type mistake for Hajduk which will haunt us for years to come, what a player he is.
- Krovinović was a ghost in a game where we needed him to shine.
- Grgić and Atanasov getting the yellow cards killed us, as they were forced to be substituted for Vuković who does not belong on the pitch whatsoever.
- This is the second time that Dambrauskas has tried three in the back, and in both games Hajduk lost by a total of 7-1.
- Lastly, Dambrauskas resting starters like Melnjak, Mikanović, and Sahiti this early in the season is scary considering we are only five games into the season. They are more than capable of playing 90 minutes 2-3 times within 10 days this early on in the year.
CroatianSports “Man of the Match”: Martin Baturina – the 19 year-old put on another masterclass tonight against his club’s biggest rival. The youngster scored, completed about 93% of his passes, and connected on six long balls. Baturina is one to watch.
First half bez luka:
Real Madrid 0 – 1
Second half
Real Modrić 2-0
Final 2-1
Man I love the minute watch with Luka but Real Madrid has no creativity in the middle without him.
Croatia seems more likely to cope with life after Modrić than Real Madrid does?!
I wish Zidane could have found more minutes for Kovacic and he could have stayed at Real Madrid. He played well when healthy there.
Farca already looking up at Real Modrić.
I remember a couple of years back they made it seem like Xavi and Iniesta were in a different class than Modrić. At this point they both were collecting a paycheck in the irrelevant leagues.
Modrić is top 5 player for the best club in the world, even as he approaches his 37th birthday!!
Real Madrid should sign another nogometaš.
The rest of these scrubs can run but have no vision.
@ Pero
That’s the beauty of November World Cup.
Just need Rebić in form these few months.
He is at 2 goals right now. You saying he won’t score 10 for the season?
Don’t pull a Ziva istina move when he scores 8 more goals and forgot your post.
At some point Modrić was a bust and Živa spent years denying what he wrote and then comes back under a different alias.
10+ goals in all competitions for Rebić!!
Yes Total in Serie A and champions league, those Italian cups where everyone rests their starters deserves an asterisk and doesn’t count!
Trust me I would be delighted if he bagged 25 this year and led us to World Cup glory, but I think you would need intravenous and bed rest if this happened being his # 1 supporter🤮
Keep the belief I hope I’m wrong!
Perišić left footed corner put on Kane’s head to tie at Chelsea 90+ minute.
Dude is a big moment player.
Tuchel tries to grab Conte’s hand during handshake and the Italian was not having it.
Perišić is going to be the X factor this year in the EPL.
One assist already and has barely played of the bench.
Actually like the minute limitation to start this season so he will be in top form for November.
Perišić in shape for Qatar is epic.
Yet another 30+ Nogometaš at the peak of his powers.
Still need Rebić to ensure Perišić is not over used before knockout stages.
Perišić – Ljubičić – Rebić
That is my front three.
Rebic won’t sustain his hot start.
He won’t even reach 10 goals this season Soul brotha!
Perišić only played for the last10 minutes, and had such an impact on the game. Even though he’s the newcomer at spurs, he took both corners, and a couple of nice long thow-ins (this is something I haven’t seen from him before). He’s an instant threat, and a true leader.
To find out for the second time, or possibly more even, that Hajduk has let an exceptional midfielder fall out of their hands such as Baturina?… I don’t understand the lack of care, or common sense that an establishment like Hajduk has? This is from a Hajdukovac! I don’t get it, maybe it is due to the fact that too many people again have their hands in the pot, to me it always seems better to have one owner rather than joint ownership. With joint ownership too many people making contrary decisions and choices. This is a 4-1 loss not 2-1 or even 3-1… Don’t get me wrong Dinamo are the main opponents for Hajduk but I just don’t understand. Should we start talking about the corruption in the Hajduk camp?? How do you let go of that many exceptional players from Modric to Baturina?? That is a terrible form of mismanagement if there ever was one.
Just to add hats off to Dinamo for the win, one hundred percent deserved.
I was impressed with level of play from Dinamo and with the crowd atmosphere. We hear a lot on this site about the lack of crowd atmosphere at Maksimir but yesterday the crowd was rocking and into the game. Good to see.
So we learned Baturina may indeed be the goods one day
And Kalinić despite letting in 4 is In decent form
He made seven saves and defended 5 corner kicks, and all except one of the goals were virtually unsaveable due to his defenders’ mistakes. He would have saved the Orsić goal for sure if Borevković hadn’t deflected it into the opposite corner. He got a hand on the Ademi header but couldn’t keep it out. Still better than Livaković, especially considering his impressive (even providential) performance against Vitoria. This Lovre Kalinić 2.0 is definitely more secure than the one who left Aston Villa in disgrace.
So can we end the biuk hype? I know on last years report this site deemed him croatias best prospect and the next messi (as they always do) after he had two fancy dribble goals
I don’t watch the hnl but if i just look at the headline stats i don’t see much production out of the guy
Can we put a fork in the hype?
He’s actually quite good, but he’s still very young.
I dont really know about hype. I just do analysis. I dont know if you’ve ever played the game ziva, but I have,
and I can tell you that there is a world of difference between pure talent and sustained success. Let’s compare biuk and halilovic. Both have remarkable talent which allows them to dominate in youth football. But top level football requires physical conditioning, tactical discipline, big personality and also a range of skills depending on the phase of play. Finally decision making has to be acute and accurate in the moment. Halilovic failed to adapt his game to these requirements and so he failed. If you watch biuk you can see that he is sacrificing his fancy footwork in order to press and and makes runs off the ball to help the team. He is also slowly bulking up and becoming more physically aggressive. This shows that, unlike halilovic, he is ready to do the work required to become a proper player. However, it’s almost impossible to do all that AND still be sublime on the ball. Because it takes energy. Biuk is doing the right thing at this stage and his selection for hajduk is his reward. When he has mastered this aspect of the game he will then have the freedom to express himself on the ball again. Then we will see if he really is a top talent or not. I like what I’m seeing. But then I know what I’m looking at, football, while some people just look at stats
On top of this a career has to be managed very carefully. Each player is an individual with unique qualities. I’m an arsenal fan. look at jesus. We all knew he was a good player. He presses very well. Good technique, speed, goals etc. But in the man city/pep system he is just a boy. At arsenal he is a genius and leader. If you are messi or Maradona it doesnt matter. You are so good that every team adapts to your qualities. But for everyone else. You need to make the right choice. I remember when I was at brunel university. 4 years. I started every game as a striker. 10 goals in 4 years. I couldnt explain it. University games were on a wednesday. At the weekend I played club football, a higher standard, and was scoring 2/3 goals a game. This is why ljubicic move to LASK is a good idea. He has found the right team. The system suits him. They play vertical football and he takes advantage with his movement. Even though HNL is lower standard its Mediterranean football. Build from the back, not easy for strikers. Its like that. Serie A is not as good as premier league. But it’s hard for strikers to score 25 goals there. These things matter. You have to think more deeply about the challenges and opportunities players have on the road to success or failure. It’s not just about talent, there are many factors. We support our players to succeed, when you see something special you praise it and hope they make the right decisions moving forward. You dont call them busts just because they encounter difficulties. It’s not easy my friend
Agree 100% with you, Biuk is overrated big time. I have made some comments on this in the past. He is not a regular goalscorer, lacks pace and agression. Ljubicic on the other hand is a goalscorer, has some pace and is agressive. Hajduk should have kept Ljubicic and sent Biuk on loan.

Can someone explain to me why Hajduk “loans out” Ljubičić?
They couldn’t find minutes for this young phenom?
He scores 9 goals for LASK in like 3 matches.
Hajduk lose to Dinamo 4-1.
LASK as an option to buy at like €2 million. They will go on to sell him for at least €20 million now.
Why can’t Hajduk cultivate all the best young talent in Dalmacija and keep them until they are ready for real transfers?
Is this rocket science?
Are we splitting the atom here?
I am tired of all these random foreign imports as well as the washed up veterans.
Dalmacija has produced World class athletes and footballers for decades.
Figure out how to support the phenom teenager to get to the next level and then cash in.
Rinse and repeat.
It is absolutely pathetic to see Hajduk so mismanaged.
Too bad they don’t have any examples of an actual Croatia club that cultivates talent and then sells them for big money deals, and wins the league every year and sometimes make the CL group stage .. oh wait ?
Is baturina truly the goods or another over-hyped mid who will be sold off for a tidy profit to never be heard from again ?
What differentiates him from coric, balic etc ?
He’s doing well in HNL.
Guys like Ćorić, Balić and Halilović were never that good in HNL. Just maybe in U19 tournaments.
Regarding Baturina!
So far, I really like this kid. He plays with a lot of determination and he’s constantly trying things to advance the play. Sometimes his attempts get cut off but he’s always searching for that pass that makes a difference and I really like that about him! He takes guys on, he shoots, he’s super intense and those are all great qualities!
I’m looking forward to the day we see him, Majer, Biuk, Sucic and others take our team to a tournament! These kids are all promising and I’m really hopeful they keep getting more experience.
Sorry kid, but your Hajduk will not be winning the league this season, maybe next season 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Not like this won’t, there was no contest there and I am Hajduk fan.
This is just the beginning of the season, I think there’s a lot more ups and downs we are gonna see this season for all teams. I like Dambrauskas and I don’t think he’s going to lose control of things this early in the season. I wasn’t sure why he started this particular lineup with 3-4-1-2 formation but it didn’t seem to work just yet, might need some tweaking! In a game like this I expected a lot more from Grgic and Krovinovic…both didn’t do very well in my opinion and I’m a fan of Grgic in particular…he’s usually a good ball winner and distributor while Krovinovic has a hard time setting the tempo of play and today he looked like he had a hard time managing the midfield.
Both teams appeared to make some strange lineup decisions. Hajduk left Melnjak on the bench and in my opinion, he’s Hajduk’s unsung hero. Sahiti also started on the bench so maybe Dambrauskas is thinking about Villarreal and not trying to put all his eggs in one basket…not sure but he does have to now think of Europa leave and the HNL. Dinamo did a similar thing by starting without Orsic and Drmic…and he keeps giving minutes to Petkovic and Ivanusec while both seem to be struggling with their form. My thought is Cacic is trying to help get those guys into form while resting his regular performers…not sure!
Lots of games left this season and I’m really hoping both teams do well in this round of their European qualifying!
Yeah maybe but this definitely gives Dinamo a leg up, I don’t think it’s smart from Hajduk given that they already had two postponed games to just let this game go.
