Rijeka 1-0 Hajduk
Rijeka all but ended Hajduk’s season on Sunday while keeping their 5-point lead on 2nd place Dinamo Zagreb. It was Croatia international Marco Pašalić who scored the lone goal of the match. Even with their comfortable lead atop the HNL table, Rijeka are still not out of the woods yet with seven matches in the season. Dinamo have a game in hand and travel to Rijeka on May 5th in a match that may determine the HNL champion.
Dinamo 4-1 Istra
Lokomotiva 1-1 Gorica
Slaven 0-1 Varaždin
Rudeš 2-3 Osijek
I hope Rijeka wins.
They have the youngest squad in the league (aside from Lokomotiva) and they have less foreign players than most teams in the HNL as well.
They’re doing it right.
I agree with your point about Cro players, but I think Dinamo has a good amount of young Hrvati too. They have far less foreign journeymen then in previous years. Either way, it’s turning out to be an exciting title race. I doubt it, but hajduk is theoretically still in it too.
They’ve all been pretty good lately in having fewer foreign players, and we’re seeing decent prospects on multiple teams now (instead of just Dinamo).
But I’ll default to Rijeka because they have slightly fewer foreigners and have an average age that is two full years younger than either Hajduk or Dinamo.
Would like to see their youth get more exposure, Rijeka to become a regular contender, and for Rijeka to finally become a source for National Team players. Would like to see teams like Osijek, Slaven, Istra and Gorica eventually do the same.
Another way to phrase the question: will Hajduk help Dinamo win the title by defeating Rijeka?
