Big news! 19-year-old striker Leon Grgić has chosen to continue his international career with Croatia. Born and raised in Austria, where he represented the country at every youth level, Grgić is considered one of the most exciting young talents in Austria.
In June 2025, Grgić rejected a call-up to Austria’s senior team, turning down Ralf Rangnick, and also declined a U21 nomination as he prepared to make the switch to Croatia.
He joined the Sturm Graz academy in 2015 and made his senior debut in 2023. Over the last four years, he has been a key figure for Austria’s youth national teams. Earlier this year, he was close to a move to Rijeka during the winter transfer window, but Sturm Graz opted to keep him for the rest of the season.
This season will be fascinating to watch, as Grgić steps into his first senior campaign with plenty of starting minutes. If he can take full advantage of these opportunities, it could be a breakthrough year for him. In the coming years, it will also be interesting to see whether he can break into Croatia’s senior team and link up with Ivanović to form an Austrian-Croatian partnership up front for the Vatreni.
Rijeka 1 – 0 over PAOK. Luka Menalo with a header in the 39th minute.
Luka Ivanusec for PAOK hit the post earlier on.
Two evenly matched teams so far.
From the highlights, section J behind one of the goals (where they have the cage which encloses the fans) was empty where away fans typically sit. Were PAOK fans not allowed to attend?
Fruk with a couple nice moves/plays/shots – but nothing worldly
Would have been classy if they brought on Lovren for a cameo for the fans (they still had a couple of subs left)
Under Dalic, we can expect a possible 2028 appearance on the bench, followed by a full time starting role at the prime age of 32 years old.
Dalic will insure that Luka has left the team via wheelchair access and Ante will hand over all striker duties once he qualifies for handicap parking.
Haha, and his first competitive game will be in a World Cup semifinal.
Ante, that is easily the best comment I have heard on here in a while! Lol
