GNK DINAMO ZAGREB 2 – 1 NK LOKOMOTIVA
Dinamo Zagreb hosted NK Lokomotiva on Saturday, but the stadium the two clubs share was unavailable for use. The match took place several miles down the road at Stadion Kranjčevičeva.
Two of the league’s top teams played to an entertaining and close match in front of 5,000 people.
Dinamo was able to get the scoring going first in the ninth minute from a header from young center back, Jozo Šimunović. It was the 19-year-old’s first goal for Dinamo.
the remainder of the first half was hard fought by both teams, and ended 1-0. The Modri came out in the second half looking to advance their lead, and that is exactly what they did.
Junior Fernandes found the back of the net in the 59th minute to put his team up by two goals. Lokomotiva tried to mount the comeback several minutes later with a free kick from outside the box, but Oliver Želenika made a crucial save on the curling shot.
Duje Čop nearly made it 3-0, but Lokomotiva goalkeeper Dominik Pičak made a full-extension save to keep his team within reach.
The Lokosi were able to give Dinamo a bit of a scare when they cut the lead in half when Dinamo loanee, Ante Puljić scored in the 78th minute.
Despite the goal, Dinamo was able to hang on and earned three points to remain in first place on the league table. This win will surly be a confidence booster for their next match, which will be against Austria Vienna in the play off round of the Champions League.
“We were better and fully deserved victory. We really created a bunch of good opportunities and could have closed the match earlier, but we are satisfied with the victory. Every game can be better, and we already believe that we will be even better against Vienna,” Dinamo’s Josip Pivaric said.
More good news for Dinamo is the return of Sammir. Sammir, who was injured in a preseason match against Ukraine’s Volyn in July, made his season debut in the 64th minute.
“It was a great feeling to return to the field after a long hiatus. I must admit that I was very glad to hear the applause from the stands at the entry to the game, it means a lot. As for the game itself, we were a lot better team and deserved to have come to a victory,” Sammir said.
Dinamo will take on Austria Vienna on Wednesday at 3 pm EST.
HNK HAJDUK SPLIT 1-0 NK SLAVEN BELUPO
Slaven Belupo made the journey to Poljud in Split on Sunday in search of their first win of the season. Unfortunately for them, they faced a much stronger Hajduk side, who took all three points in what turned out to be a very close match.
Hajduk has been playing strong football the fast few weeks, and are a serious threat to anyone who thinks that they can stay on top of the league table. Slaven had the tough task of playing against them in their home stadium, and did a respectable job throughout the 90 minutes.
Slaven had several chances to take the lead, several of them being on quick counter attacks and long balls. They relied on these tactics, as they had some difficulty beating the Hajduk defense on the ground, and had to resort to long balls.
Slaven was able to knock on the door of their opposition’s goal, but lacked the composure to finish what they started. Shot after shot missed the net, or were blasted over into the stands.
Hajduk had a much more successful time with their offense and had several chances to take the lead, but it wasn’t until the 77th minute when they were able to.
Ante Maglica was the hero who tapped in a rebound that Silvio Rodić punched right to him.
Despite the celebration, Hajduk was fined 30,000 kuna for actions of the home fans for a banner displayed on August 4 during the match against Hrvatski Dragovoljac.
Hajduk fans revealed a banner saying, “Gori si od ijednog cigana, mrzimo te više od ikoga, Mamiću umri!” or, “You’re worse than any gypsies, I hate you more than anyone, Mamić Die!”
Hajduk now have a game in hand and sit in second place behind Dinamo in the standings.
HNK RIJEKA 1 – 1 RNK SPLIT
Rijeka is another club that is a serious threat to winning the league. Fortunately for them, they have gotten off to a much stronger start to the season than they did last year, giving them plenty of opportunity to get as many points as possible.
Split on the other hand is a very formidable opponent, and despite having a slower start to the season than last year, they are a difficult team to beat.
The match at Kantrida was a close one and ended evenly, where the teams had to settle to split the points with each other.
Mate Bilić got the party started for Split. The 32-year-old striker stepped up to the penalty spot and converted it for the first goal of the match.
Leon Benko, last season’s top scorer, and top goal scorer for Rijeka, answered back fairly quickly with a his fifth goal of the season in the 29th minute. Benko had a prime opportunity to take the lead for Rijeka, but was defeated by Split keeper, Danijel Zagorac.
Ante Rebić had the best chance in the second half to take the lead for Split, but was unable to beat Ivan Vargić in net.
Each team went home with a point, and Rijeka now sit in third place.
NK OSIJEK 1 – 3 NK ISTRA 1961
Igor Pamić’s crew traveled to the Garden City and took three points home with them.
It was Osijek who once again took the lead early, but were once again unable to keep it for very long.
The 17-year-old, Karlo Lučić, scored first for Osijek, scoring his fourth goal of the season. Unfortunately for the home side, Lučić’s goal was overshadowed by the poor performance of goalkeeper, Zvonimir Mikulić.
Istra’s first goal came from Petar Franjić, only six minutes after Lučić’s goal. It came from a seemingly harmless shot from about 18 yards out that Mikulić misplayed, and let it go by him.
A similar situation happened again for him in the 59th minute when Istra’s Alves de Oliveira Jo sent in a weak shot from a tough angle. The ball squeaked by Mikulić and into the back of the net.
Chung Woon would make it 3-1 for the visitors, and that is how the match would end.
Istra coach, Igor Pamić was officially fined for comments he made earlier in the season regarding officials after a dramatic loss to NK Lokomotiva. The coach was hit with a 6,000 kuna fine after claiming the judges were biased against teams not from Zagreb, and more specifically, his team because they are from Istra.
NK ZADAR 1 – 1 NK HRVATSKI DRAGOVOLJAC
Hrvatski Dragovoljac are still searching for their first win of the season, but did not find it in Zadar. Instead, the found their their draw of the season, tying the home team 1-1.
Ante Sarić scored first in the 24th minute for Zadar, but his goal was quickly cancelled out by Jan Doležal’s 28th minute goal for the Volunteers.
Zadar is coming off a monumental victory at Split’s Youth Park, but were unable to ride the momentum for a week. The teams split the points, and the Volunteers are in eighth place while Zadar sit in sixth.
Colin, you do a good job mate.
This site is becoming a very negative site where people love to be negative towards each other. We are sad people who look to amuse ourselves at other peoples expense

Klokan and Mertho – Ha whoops. Hell yeah I’ll use Google translate. Cuts my reading time in half. I have to read so many reports in Croatian. If I translated it myself, it’d take me all day to write this. If I find a short cut, I’m using it. If any of you great fluent Hrvati want to help me out sometime, please get in touch.
@imotski:
I agree.
@Faux cro England is one of the only exceptions…English players have become so overrated that foreigners are in fact CHEAPER to have. Look at players like carroll, downing, joe cole all over priced. The smart thing to do is to stay away from buying english players, its probably better for the team to have an english core, but its expensive to have one.
PS who would you rather have Michu or Carrol? 3mil vs 35mil
2/3 of EPL players are not English.

@mertho
Sad, but true!
What team is more Croatian?
Who is the bigger Croat?
Who is the biggest Jugo scum?
same convos, over and over – courtesy of Google Translate; your one stop shop to being a big time Hrvat
@pp 99% of hajduk players can speak the language, idk y u said Hajduk is becoming more of an international team but its the opposite. A couple of years ago when they had Balakov as their coach, then they brought in foreigners, and had a team that looked like dinamo on paper. All i can say now is hajduk is moving in a direction, that all hajdukovci agree with.
And Hajduk IS a big team, a big team in Hrvatska.
Don’t knpw where to post this, but Dinamo vs Austria Wien will be live on Canadian TV on Sportsnet 360 (Formerly TheScore, formerly Headline Sports)
@Imotski
LOL
yeah and Hajduk has done much in the last ten years, you are really trying to equate Hajduk to the above teams, good one
You want a real core team look at Hrvatski Dragovoljac, all Croats who speak the language.
@Cico, no need to give me one guess on “G”. Learn how to spell and worry about yourself.
@Klokan
In case you didn’t know, this site is run by a bunch of yanks who use google translate then argue about who is the bigger croat.
Quite sad really lol.

well obviously, look at most big teams, the core of the team is from that country, but the best players were brought in.

Madrid-Ronaldo
PSG-Ibrahimovic
Monaco-Falcao
Man U-Van Persie
Man C- Aguero
Arsenal-Cazorla
Bayern-Ribery
Dortmund-Lewandowski
etc
no point in having foreign average players, keep a hrvatski core, and only bring in foreigners if they are a shelf above the rest
and kouassi is the best player on the team, lol
Hajduk only has 1 player who doesnt speak hrvatski and that is kouassi, dinamo on the other hand…
Cico you idiot, take a look at your team more and more non Croats are coming to it, that is reality and that is what is happening to the entire HNL, so wake up. Relax and sorry most loved team is GNK Dinamo in HRV and the world.

@imotski
Wow. Hajduk is becoming an international team. Pretty soon no Hrvati will be on the team.
that banner was from the dragovoljac game, and they are being fined because of that sign.
You should of mentioned that Hajduk has taken in another trialist named Patrice Zoungrana ‘Messi’, an attacking midfielder/winger. He was apart of the u17 Burkina Faso team that won the africa cup in 2011.
My mistake. They didn’t hold it up on Sunday, they were just fined on Sunday from when they held it up on Aug. 4.
You sure the Torcida had that banner for yesterday’s game. That was already used for a previous one. Rare for them to use the same banner in multiple games….
