Routine wins came for Dinamo and Rijeka over the weekend, leaving the two clubs tied for the top position on the table while the Osijek re emerges as a league contender and sits three points behind in third place. Dinamo beat NK Istra 1961 2-1 in Pula, leaving the Puljani still in search of their first win while Rijeka soundly took care of Slaven Belupo 2-0.
Osijek remains undefeated after competing in its biggest derby in years, defeating Cibalia 2-0 in the Garden City.
Hajduk Split gave NK Lokomotiva yet another loss, defeating them 2-0. It’s been a tough week for Lokomotiva who suffered their first loss in European play and were eliminate from the Europa League. A similar result was held by Hajduk Split who were also eliminated last week. Several members of the Lokosi were recalled to their parent club, Dinamo this week, including Ivan Fiolić and Dino Perić. Goalkeeper Eduardo has officially joined Chelsea FC, and Ante Čorić is looking to make the move to Italy soon.
RNK Split and Inter Zaprešić played to a scoreless draw on Friday afternoon. Split remains winless while Inter rests in sixth place.
ok new poll who thinks truth is ziva
or maybe its zivas step dad? lol that guy was a riot at times
wow the characters on this site throughout the years
Hehe
The Truth = Ziva Istina
Overuse of lame nicknames
preoccupation with Lovren’s sexuality
“The Truth” is obviously “Turkey”. Same wrighting style.
If his Serbia had even a decent team he would not be spending so much time following Croatian soccer.
You have to feel sorry for the guy. I know many Serbs are jealous of our team, however, this guy is obsessed and consumed with envy. He seriously needs psychiatric help
Good points on the 442 BZ. Of course the truth is not ziva. People get confused on this site, people even thought that lame troll turkey was me, and I’ve been the most positive fan of our players and the team here….from the word go.
Yeah maminjo that’s right, you know what we’re like… 😉
I am telling you the truth is not ziva.
lol ziva got new nick names… pretty sweet man
well surprise surprise
Croatia beats si-suck 8-1
the real question is did anyone see those highlights?! did you see how many chance si-suck had to score?
I guess that’s what you get when you field a defense featuring
sime vrsaljkolic – except rather than a big deal when he gets off the wagon, its a big deal when he gets off the atleti bench
dejan love-men
d-oh-my-god “how-can this guy be playing” vida
ivan strinic – no nickname needed….he embarrasses himself without any help
Maminjo- that lineup is pretty much the 442 that many of us want. Granted, today’s game is a horrible opponent, but we have yet to play a bad half with the 442.
1) The occupying of space frees things up for Perisic/Pjaca.
2)Mandzo’s skills are much better utilized with help up top. Eg headers back across the box. Guy like Kramaric occupying a defender helps Mandzo do what he does best in finding a great spot to receive a Mandzo like goal (that isn’t an insult).
3) allows Mandzo to play D more effectively.
@Crnkovic
As a musliman, I knew you’d like my comment.
Woman slaves and children’s souls are pretty much all you think about. 😉
Ooooh! Nered! Nered!
Lol
Oh yeah, I forgot about Primorac.
Dude has been Arsenal first team coach for so long, I forgot he existed.
There’s probably no point in ever putting him on the list as there is no way in hell that he ever leaves that gig that he has right now.
He’s too old and probably not ambitious enough to ever move from there. He’ll probably just stick with Wenger, wherever he goes and then just retire. Money probably couldn’t even attract him.
You’d literally have to pay him in woman slaves and children’s souls.
U 21’s draw 1-1 at home with Sweden.
Maminjo, what about Boro Primorac?
Bobby V that is well and true… But much like a club coach too, and international coach must evaluate the opponent and come up with formation and tactics to win the day with a clear understanding of your own strengths and weaknesses.
All international coaches do is pick the lineup, make substitutions and try to motivate the players.
There is no time to actually coach them. It could not be more different than being a club coach.
It’s more like being a 10 day soccer mom once every few months.
Yeah it’s the Brisbane Lions strategy of just snatch a former player who played in the golden era and make them a coach cos they must be good at it, same thing Croatia does.. hate it
To answer your question…
Coaches we have who are better than Cacic:
– Vladimir Petkovic
– Slaven BIlic
– Ivan Juric
– Matjaz Kek (Slovene, but a Croat citizen)
– Nenad Pralija
However, these guys would cost us an arm and a leg simply because they have all coached (or currently coach) in the big-time. Kek has only coached in mediocre club leagues, but he’s actually had the most success at international level with Slovenia. This is why I think he’d be a great coach for us. He’d probably be the cheapest option, he’s underrated, actually succeeded in international play with a weak team, and has been successful in every position he’s ever been in.
Other coaches like Prosinecki and Tudor don’t have the experience or any major successes in their coaching careers to really know what you’re going to get, but they are promising. I wouldn’t put them ahead of Cacic just yet, but they are much younger and are on a better career path than he is. They will be better than him at his age, but for now they are all in the same ballpark.
We actually have a lot of very experienced, small-time coaches like Cacic.
The problem is, because they are “small-time” you really don’t know what you are gonna get when they move to the “big-time”.
It’s hard to gauge whether their success in the small leagues (HNL) will translate on the international level. Some may argue that they simply cannot coach big players from big leagues. Others can argue that it’s all relative, and once they get higher skilled national team players to coach with, then they can be just as successful as they were in the mediocre leagues they’ve been coaching in.
Either way, it’s a risk and it can go either way.
The problem we’ve been having in these past 10 years is that we kept going with the inexperienced yet “big name” former player.
This is an even WORSE way to go than going with an experienced small-time coach, because you are hiring a person based solely on their popularity. Guys like Stimac and Kovac (and to a lesser extent) Bilic had very little (if any) coaching experience when they were hired. Much, much bigger risk.
These former players were learning on the job, and we had to use our national team to go through their growing pains as they developed as a coach. Terrible strategy by the HNS and it cost us a lot of results in these past several tournaments.
If the money is the same, then you may as well go with the experienced small-time coach and see if that experience translates into success once they’ve been provided with some international stars.
Other than Cacic’s in game decisions against Portuaal, he has done a great job in his player and line up selections.
He’s definitely not a world class coach, however, who do we have that is clearly better than him at the moment. One could argue Bilic or Juric at the moment. Prosinecki or Kek are other options.
i didnt even know there was a game, lol.. oh well, umm, yay !? we won 8-1 ! go team ! 😀
Honestly, even though Cacic has his in-game flaws, he knows how to pick starting lineups very well.
That was an interesting lineup he played against Sisak, which I wouldn’t mind seeing in a game. We really do need to start every game with a Perisic and Pjaca combo on the wings, and having a crafty forward in Kramaric (who seems to have good chemistry with both) should get some regular playing time up front with both of them.
I don’t mind Strinic starting, but I just wish we had a better LB.
Sisak’s only two chances were caused by his man, and one of them ended up as a goal.
Our weakest position by far.
