Mario Pašalić scored the go-ahead header as Atalanta came back from a two-goal deficit to eliminate manager Niko Kovač and Borussia Dortmund from the Champions League.
After losing 2–0 in the first leg, Atalanta responded with a 4–1 victory today to complete a huge comeback. Pašalić rose above the defence at a crucial moment, completing the dramatic turnaround. Pašalić also supplied the cross into the box that resulted in the game-winning penalty for Atalanta. Across the board this week, he couldn’t be more in form.
Pašalić and Atalanta will now face Arsenal or Bayern Munich in the Champions League Round of 16.
Pašalić goal (9:21)

Liva
Faced over two legs
4.41 xG
1.41xG 1st leg
3.00 xG 2nd leg
He let in 6 goals
That means he significantly under-performed xG which is based on “average”
Math doesn’t lie
Truth hurts
Liva sucks
Croatia #1 LMAO
Livakovic had a couple of bad games. It happens. He looked very good in the qualifiers. It’s not like he has any competition now anyway. Your boy, Pandur, has given 8 goals in the last 3 games- in the 2nd division. Coach Dalic will stick with Livakovic.
Did you watch the match? Livaković made a few very important and very unusual saves. The UK commentators were praising him for keeping Dinamo in it. It isn’t his fault that Dinamo defends poorly as a team.
OK, maybe not that unusual but definitely important
Yes – it’s 100% his fault – it’s his JOB to organize the defenders in front of him – he has 71 caps for Croatia – and still can’t be vocal and yell at them PRO-ACTIVELY to alert them of danger, who needs to be where, etc. – he gets F- for lack of judgement / ability to organize the back 4
It isn’t just the back 4. In fact, I’d say the back 4 were pretty good. Dinamo was getting burned on counterattacks because they were pressing for a goal, and then their young midfielders are too slow to turn around and defend when they lose the ball. Mišić had to yell at them a lot last night because of this. Dinamo looked great going forward and pretty good defending set pieces and buildup play, but very weak defending counterattacks. It’s a team defending issue, not a Livaković issue. Livaković did well to keep them in the game against the counterattacks.
Liva sleeping again – slow to react
He has the opposite problem that Kotarski has
But how he flung himself but didn’t put his arms out by his side (?)
Hopefully it’s off-side
You’re bias against Livakovic is unbelievable or maybe you lack knowledge of the game and have no idea what you are talking about ?
or maybe you did not watch the match ?
Livakovic one of the best players for Dinamo tonight, as judged by TV commentator and studio experts at Arena Sport. Also, go and have a look at player ratings given by general public on INDEX.
LMAO
Isn’t the best HNL commentator in jail bc he lied during the Mamic trial about 200k payment ?
If the commentator lied about that and ended up in jail that means they have ZERO credibility. Full stop. Period. But you expect their football opinion is pure ?
Don’t be naive and realize those guys are all scummy and probably take bribes from agents and team presidents and the like to give good opinions about this that the other
Fan voting – who cares – blind leading the blind
Say it ain’t so Anon.
You mean an adjudicated perjuror is in jail and 1 got pardoned ?
So we should all just agree with what a total stranger called Anonymous posts on the internet instead of agreeing with professional sports analysts and broadcasters in Croatia whose job is to know Croatian nogomet? Right…
Great effort by Dinamo to take it to extra time, however that stupid Red Card for Stojkovic will make it hard to come back with 15 minutes to go.
Liva can’t stop a beach ball (and you all say his guaranteed Croatia #1)
Misic penalty push in the box (should have been called)
Stojko got baited and slapped the face – red card
Capitulation
Where’s Boban ? Great job being cheap and not buying Jaga
Disagree with you, Livakovic has had a good match.
STOJKOVIC!!!!
Extra time.
Go Dinamo!
A excellent comeback so far.
Had given Dinamo abso no chance but somehow they are in this tie now.
PAO
Perfect perfect perfect !

PAO players exhausted
AND
PAO have 2 added matches R16 in mid-March
Anonymous 95% sure Jaga starts Sunday and most likely 2 of 3 league matches b4 Dalic announces squad March 9th
Let’s f go Jaga – it’s your turn !!!
Rijeka win 3 – 1 (4 -1 on aggregate) against Omonia with 2 second half goals from Toni Fruk and one from Adu.
First half they were poor and were losing 1 – 0 when Barisic failed with a defensive clearance in the 13th min, which resulted in a goal for the visitors. Possibly a foul on Barisic ? however the Ukrainian ref did not give it and to make things worse Barisic got injured in the process and had to be subbed. Looks like a hamstring injury ?, which will put him in doubt for the crucial U21 clash v Turkey in 4 weeks time.
Excellent second half by Rijeka with Toni Fruk finally finding some form to turn the match around with an equliser in the 53 minute and shortly after with a tap in to make it 2 – 1.
Dinamo kicking off in a few minutes, needing a miracle to overturn the 3 – 1loss at home.
PAO extra-time
Perfect !
Jaga starts Sunday!
Everyone
Jaga Jaga Jaga
Fruk says
Hold my brace in a beer
Polish U19 midfielder Muzarek scored 3 goals vs Pong – so far
Gets better for LV by the day
Franko
Disaster
Starting from bench 12:45
Terrible
Sad
They need a goal to tie 2nd leg
Hopefully he gets a chance to come on angry and show us what’s what
Pasalic was MOTM great header for a goal nice interception and cross to create the last PK and he actually cleared a scoring chance as well
Bensebiani might of had the most error filled defensive performance of any defender alive being at fault for all 4 BD goals
If Oršić finishes the season strong, we’re probably going to have the same bench mob as in the past two tournaments (Oršić, Pašalić, Vlašić) all of whom were very clutch for us.
Majer however will lose his role with us now that we have Baturina requiring key minutes for us.
I don’t know how this compares to past years, but we should have probably a dozen or more new players to replace the likes of: Livaja, Moro, Vrsaljko, Vida, Lovern, Juranovic, Petkovic, Brozovic, Sosa, Skoric, Ivanusec, Brekalo, Colak and possibly Majer and maybe a few others I missed.
Seems like a huge turnover, but that should be a good sign Croatia has continued developing talent. I still think Petar and Marco should be given a nod even if they are in MSL players.
In that light, Modric was one of a kind with his longevity.
Orsic has 1 goal in the last 5 months in CYPRUS
And that’s playing 2684′ this season
That’s fine.
Then Baturina is our backup LW and Marco Pašalić is our backup RW.
I’m still holding out hope that Baturina gets back to his elite form after that ankle injury and can start for us. But in case Dalić prioritizes the vets, then he’ll take that role.
Since when has Baturina being elite been a criteria for him starting ?
Crap at DZ last year (when Pero wasn’t playing) and struggling at Como first 1/2 this year and Dalic still started him bc of “potential” and “he does 1 or 2 good moves a game”
“Dispora Privilege”
Watch Dalic call up Barisic over Valincic for the WC for the same reason….
I would have to agree with Maminjo here.
Baturina has been pretty clutch for Como this season from the games that I have watched. I don’t think it can be overlooked.
Not suggesting there aren’t other players out there who are also good on the flank. However, Baturina has managed to transition really well into that role while at Como. This is in counter distinction to when he assigned that role for us for the last few tournaments where he stood out like a sore thumb. But if he is still in form I would want to have him in the squad at this point he would prove to be useful in my opinion.
Every Croat in the world knows including dalic and pasalic that Pašalić is a massive piece of our depth and a clutch guy and should not be starting on rw
The other pasalic maybe tho
Clutch player. Definitely on the plane for me. But not my starting RW.
Good to see Pasalic is in good form. He went through a bit of a dry spell earlier in the season.
Ivanovic came on in the 85th minute against Real Madrid. But he couldn’t seem to get much going in the 15 or so minutes he had on the field.
Croatia fans…
Meet your starting RW at the World Cup!
😉
Please no
Super sub 💪🏻
I have definitely have more confidence in Mario than in Marco. Mario scores a big goal in the Champions League against a good club. Marco dominates in the MLS. Let Marco go back to Europe to prove himself.
Mario Pasalic scores a goal in the Champions’ League against a good club. Marco Pasalic does well in the American League. I have more confidence in Mario until Marco goes to Europe and shows he can compete with the best.
I dunno about that dude. I like Mario Pašalić but he is not a winger. I think the problem is that the style of play of Atalanta suits him better more often than the Croatian squad, Dalic seems to have a hard time finding a way to utilize him correctly, as he sometimes does with other players.
I think he is a good substitute for Krama’s position personally. He is really good about being an extra body in the final third and finding a way to put that ball in the net when others can’t. So he is a good support for someone like Budimir who is also tall. This is especially crucial when you have the right wingers on the flanks, crossing the ball in more often than not. Until now, we have really been missing this other than with Perisic.
Mario Pašalić, for example has a bigger stature than Kramarić. So I think he would have been better against Czechia, personally. Krama was essentially invisible that game because the team was too tall and too aggressive, that wouldn’t have bothered Mario Pašalić much I don’t think.
Again both Kramarić and Mario Pašalić are useful players in different circumstances.
But again I could be wrong.
I am not saying Mario should start, but Marco hasn’t shown enough to me to merit a starting role- it seems to be Coach Dalic’s opinion. I still remember the great goal Mario scored in the ‘21 Euros against Spain in the final 16.
That’s a fair point. I think the issue is that we really need wingers and strikers whereas we have tones of midfielders, even attacking midfielders.
In that position specifically we have Kramarić, Mario Pašalić, Vlašić, Majer, and Luka Sučić. All of which play the midfield/attacking role. Just to name a few. Whether or not you agree with these options is a different story altogether.
For wingers, the only options at this stage, besides players we haven’t played yet or that are making it through the ranks of the youth, are Perisic, Orsic, Marco Pašalić, and Baturina. Baturina whom is currently playing a winger type role at Como and doing very well. Orsic had that injury a while back and has still been set back by it.
This is pretty much it for wingers. Otherwise we have to look at younger players currently playing for Dinamo, Hajduk, or other teams in the HNL. There may also be some younger players in other outside leagues. If Dalic takes this route, which I doubt he will, then he has to hope it pays off in risk. Knowing Dalic, he is not one for risk in this sense so I don’t see it happening even if we call for it.
So, in a sense, even if you don’t think Marco Pašalić has proved himself to you, who do you chose then really as an alternative? At the very least he is useful sub in that position, and I don’t think we can afford to not call him up. What he may lack for in possession he makes up for in dynamism in my view. The dude can move the ball. So can Baturina at this stage. So I think they are definitely call ups.
Otherwise you kind of have to show who you would pick in their place and why?
Mario Pašalić, on the other hand, is not a natural winger and it has been tried so many times and had been shown to be a failed experiment. It’s not his strength.
But substituting Mario Pašalić up front, where Krama plays, when Krama is having a bad game could be a good move for Dalic to change things up.
@mate, agree with you fully re mario/Kramaric
Poor Jaga 🥲
@anon. Jaga will make it 100%
