Josip Brekalo couldn’t have asked for a better start to 2022!
In his first match of the new year, Brekalo scored twice as Torino crushed Fiorentina 4-0 on Monday. Brekalo was also named ‘man of the match’ with a 8.6 SofaScore match rating. The 23 year-old now has five goals this season, and is averaging a solid 7.14 match rating in Serie A.
After an average 2020-21 season at Wolfsburg, Brekalo is finally finding his groove again in Italy. The young attacker has been a constant threat for Torino down the left flank this season. It will be interesting to see what else Brekalo can do under Ivan Jurić’s management this season.
Toronto FC draft pick today. (Sorry for the ‘indie rock’ post lol.)

meh.
Goalkeeper?
That’s a cappin’
Football Observatory, a reputable site, has stated that Gvardiol’s market value is 87.3 million euros, making him a top 25 most expensive player in the world. He’s the sixth most expensive defender. Most expensive Croat.
Not to mention, all the players above him (bar 5 defenders) are wingers, strikers or midfielders, players who generally have a much higher market value in comparison to defenders, making Joško’s numbers all the more impressive.
He’s really been amazing. He went to a great club where he’s been given consistent playing time against good competition. Let’s hope Luka Sucic and Roko Simic can follow in his footsteps.
That Brekalo goal going around the keeper and finishing with is left is actually really tough to do. Seemed much better than the initial highlights I saw yesterday. With Vlasic and Brekalo regaining form, and Pasalic just crushing it; Dalic has some really tough decisions to make which is a good thing. We really seem to have great depth except at the CF spot. Good thing Dalic has time to figure out what combination works best in time for the WC. Here’s hoping Musa, Budimir, or Petkovic can become more consistent. At least they all play on weak teams where they should get their chances if they’re good enough.
Budimir if gains form again has to be given some seniority
Not trashing the HNL but least budimir plays much stiffer skilled competition
Budimir is turning 31 this year. He’s played for Croatia 8 times and scored once. He’s only ever played for bottom half of the table clubs. I realize that him and Petkovic are the main two prototypical CFs on our squad but that doesn’t mean we can’t put others in those positions. He’s only ever been a guy with potential and shit I hope he realizes that potential but frankly I wouldn’t even call him up at this point. Nikola Kalinic has more goals and assists this season….
Nice finish for sure
Well if you count vlasic man of match
Brekalo(both of which aren’t really even starters currently)
And sounded like luka was man of match as well
That’s at least three man of matches this weekend
Guys it was only a few years ago when we would go a week or two without any of our guys scoring
Never mind the quality stuff our guys are doing
As always we are truly blessed
Sounds like budimir is catching his form again
I’m down with whoever will put that hard work up front. He seems to be the most mandzo type striker we have right now
Great that he scored both goals with his left foot too. I’ve always thought of him as being very right-footed.
