In the football world, they say if you play for a draw, only bad things will happen. And that’s exactly what happened to Real Madrid Tuesday night in Paris. It was obvious from the opening whistle that Real Madrid would have been happy with a 0-0 draw against PSG with the away-goal rule now abolished from Champions League knockout round matches. And it almost worked.
Luka Modrić got the start for Los Blancos and played 82 minutes as Kylian Mbappe’s 93′ winner would stun the Spanish leaders at the death. Messi had a penalty blocked in the 2nd half but justice was served with Mbappe’s winner, who could very well be in a Real Madrid jersey next season. PSG held the ball for 57% of the match with eight shots on target while Real Madrid only managed one shot on goal in 90 minutes. The two sides will meet again in Madrid on March 9th.
On Wednesday, Ivan Perišić, Marcelo Brozović, and Inter Milan host Premiership side Liverpool in the Round of 16. This tie should be a tight one and go down to one goal difference; if not an extra time affair. Brozović has been on fire in the defensive midfielder role this season with Perišić pulling his weight on the wing in what should be his last season in Milan.
On Wednesday, Reb Bull Salzburg host Bayern Munich. Luka Sučić did not feature for Salzburg at the weekend and we will be on watch if he makes the squad versus mighty Bayern.
Perisic is Inter’s best player by a fucking country mile
Gabriel Vidovic also on the bench for Bayern.
Sučić not in the starting lineup, but he did make it on the bench which is good news.
Also named to the bench btw….Roko Simić. :).
Madrid settled in and although he played more defensively this game (as was needed) he woulda never allowed that goal to happen…mpabbe and his late winners don’t do him credit as much as Madrids defence does disservice to the team! Carvajal got torn apart by him all game. Sosa, juranovic woulda handled him better- carvajal has always been a hole for Spain in my opinion – like 90s Brazil-they leak goals but can create more – difference is Spain doesn’t have that firepower that Brazil did and they will be seriously overrated this tourney unless there youngsters step up.
Fifas ratings are a joke with Mexico and US above us. We should be at least 2-3 places higher then our current ranking. We don’t deserve any higher then that 2-3 rankings place above our current state unless we prove it in forthcoming fixtures. We’ve been in pretty shitty form for years but still should be above Mexico and US lol this regional rating should be weighted according to other factors…example – Senegal wins the African cup of nations – they shouldn’t go into too 15-20 in the world just because they dominate there sub par quality soccer continent
In fairness, Luka did not have a great game and so I’m not surprised he was taken out. Then again, all of Madrid was bad tonight except Courtois.
In fairness, they were set up to play to not lose.
Luka is more responsible to commitment on that front than most, in my opinion.
In my opinion, that was Courtois against the whole of PSG and everyone one else was on vacation. It was a terrible game for Real Madrid and Modric. But there still one game to turn it around, I really wanted Modric to have won a treble this year to shut every nay sayer up about his Ballon D’or win but I guess it wasn’t meant to be, hopefully Real can still pull this one off! In reality it is still ridiculous that Modric is even still playing at the level that he is in the majority of his matches, the guy is not normal! Even Kroos named him the GOAT on Twitter lol!
I didn’t see much after the Messi penalty miss
Psg were all over them
Was the goal really caused by luka being subbed off?
I swear mbappes name is always like 90+3/4 on the score sheet
Guess him potentially joining Real will pay dividends
I’m not saying Madrid lost cos they took off Luka but let me put it this way:
he came off and not long after PSG win the game
if he had stayed on i estimate Madrid would’ve won 6-0
😉
Subbing out Luka what is ancellotti thinking ?
Cost the game
Result = Velociraptor lookin overrated mpabbe as the hero- can’t stand this French club team almost like the national team
No jealously whatsoever just despise there douchebag players – baby gremlin lookin Messi, neymar overrated diver and mpabbe another over rated douche
Oh well – keep Luka’s legs, hopefully for the best. I actually starting to buy in on previous posts about our veterans not goin the distance as being beneficial
Modric was having a shitty game he was right to be subbed. I hope that they can turn it around.
Whelp, you take off Modric and you concede a goal!
Hoping luka takes out psg
Was wanting to comment on the other thread
Erlic has been talked about before but sounds like he is maturing
Does he get thrown into the mix?
If we do go with the 3 CB in the back I sure hope we don’t go gvardiol lovren vida
