However, the way I see it, a draw or a one-goal loss for Croatia is nearly the same thing in my book. Croatia must defeat England if they want 1st place in group which creates a far easier road in the knockout stages. Winner of Group L would play a 3rd place team in the Round of 32 and the Group A winner (probably Mexico) in the Round of 16. The Group L runner-up would most likely go through Colombia in the R32 followed by Spain in the R16. Much, much tougher.
My logic on going for 1st place is this. Even if Croatia and England play out a draw, England is going to pump Panama for 5-6 goals to gain superior goal differential. I would be shocked if they didn’t and would be equally shocked if England did not beat Ghana. I don’t see Croatia pumping 3+ goals against Panama or Ghana. Play for the win and Croatia has a favorable road to the quarterfinals. That’s my take before the opening whistle blows in Dallas.

I have never ever felt we were/are going to lose a game and its the same feeling this time as well. Dalic chose the squad, every time we see a video clip of the training sessions or something about the camp, hotel, food, small celebrations for a Birthday or some team gathering for recognition…its always positive and heart warming. No drama, no scandals, no embarrassments…just a family of players supported by millions of Croatians that know what it means to be one of us!
This is the environment Dalic has created. everything is positive, the players seem to be uniting, the fans are getting crazy about supporting our team and to represent Croatia.
We are capable to achieve anything on any given day and the game is not played on paper, its played on the field. small details matter and I feel this group of guys have the correct mentality and will to play 90 minutes with 100% concentration for all of us.

Everyone deserves time off I get it, and they are young. But sometimes you need to “roll up your sleeves” as they say. You need to have a winning mentality and these guys need to show it.

The most likely score lines are 5-1 England. (If we aren’t fully on it and make mistakes and England clicks), 0-0 if both teams are ready and it becomes tactical battle in the heat. 1-0 England. If it’s a fairly open game but neither side fully clicks. And 3-0 Croatia. If Croatia is fully focused but not threatening a lot. Croatia score without having creating a lot of chances, England rush to correct the situation we pick them off on the counter attack as they get more frustrated. (Like Argentina 2018). I think each of these scenarios has equal chance. Of course in my heart we are winning. But my football brain says these are all likely outcomes
