Nikola Vlašić scored a goal in his fourth straight game Saturday in a 2-1 Torino loss to Cagliari. In the 1st half, he asked for the ball as he jogged into the penalty area before shooting high and wide on goal with the goalie out but two defenders on the line. Vlašić has now 5G,2A in has last six Serie A matches to end the year. He received Torino’s highest SOFAScore rating in the match (7.2) with three total shots on the day as their #10.
Joško Gvardiol assisted on City’s 83rd minute winner Saturday as he cooly headed a corner kick down to Cherki in the box for the shot. City would defeat Nottingham Forest 2-1 with the goal. The plays show how composed and calm Gvardiol is in the box offensively. Gvardiol received a 8/10 match rating from a very tough Manchester Evening News as he “Had his hands full with Jesus but dealt with the physical battle very well and did so well going forward.”
The Bundesliga and La Liga are currently on winter break. Luka Modrić and AC Milan play Hellas Verona Sunday.

We have to be realistic about this year’s team as we don’t have the several world class players of ‘18. The ‘22 team still had talent. But the ‘26 team (this site has provided enough proof of that) will have a lot of uncertainties. Coach Dalic has been able to squeeze out as much as he could from the talent Croatia has had. Let’s hope we can get past the group level and then hope for some magic again.
Wow wow wow

Oh the irony
Of Vidovic insisting on taking the #10 from Baturina – and not being able to play LW – bc he can’t/doesn’t want to track-back/play defence (just like Bati) – and telling the manager he is an attacking midfielder – while there are at least 7 other midfielders ahead of him in the pecking order (only Mudra is behind him)
The parallels of Vidovic at Dinamo and Baturina at Como are scary
#10 Dinamo shirt cursed?
Marcelo Ryan will be starting #9 for Croatia at the World Cup

If you’re wondering with Dalic says Budimir is the highest quality option he has
It’s bc Budimir works at Dalic’s restaurant on the side as a dishwasher
It’s nice to see Budimir already line up his options post his playing career

ANONYMOUS WAS THE FIRST PERSON ON HERE TO MENTION PANDUR
PANDUR SHOULD 100% BE CROATIA #1
If Liva wants to be Croatia #1 why is he going to Dinamo that faces 1 shot a game ? He should go to Osijek or Vukovar or one of the other bottom teams that face a lot of shots to test himself each game. Going to Dinamo is beta / easy move and he doesn’t deserve to be Croatia #1 based on 1 shot a game.
England keepers are all playing for teams that face a lot of shots per game like Pickford Everton Henderson Palace Trafford Burnley Pope Newcastle, etc
Another Dalic PR f-up saying Liva is for sure Croatia #1 as long as he plays for a club (just a low / dumb-benchmark)
Pandur is playing for Hull – that almost got relegated last year – and has a transfer ban in place (they can’t buy any players) and a few of their players are out injured – that’s adversity – that’s what we need for Croatia #1 – not some prima donna strolling into Dinamo to get his one shot a game

⬆️. Bang on
I thought his distribution was suspect?
Is it National Team caliber?
Are his shot stopping skills that good that it doesn’t matter?
From the highlights that I saw he did not make any extra ordinary saves. Plays in the second tier English comp and is suspect on aerial crosses into the box. Livakovic is better goalkeeper than him and has proven this over the years. We have some other goalkeepers that are better than Pandur such as Semper at Pisa in Seria A.
James Trafford played in the “second tier English comp” last year and MANCHESTER CITY bought him for 35m to start (but than Donna became available and now he’s back-up)
Semper couldn’t even start for Dinamo lol – he’s almost 28 y/o and spent his ENTIRE career in 2nd tier Italy or below – Pisa got promoted last year – and are going right back down to Serie B at the end of the year
Liva has proven that NO CLUB TEAM IN THE WORLD WANTS HIM TO BE THEIR #1 KEEPER – NOT ONE CLUB TEAM IN THE WORLD – MARKET IS EFFICIENT AND HAS SPOKEN – so he is running back to Dinamo (just like Ivusic ran back to Hajduk) so he can face 1 shot a game
Of course Anonymous is right – Anonymous is ALWAYS right – that’s why Dalic invited Pandur to the call ups in November – not Semper and “some other keepers” that you can’t even name
Anonymous was not the first to mention Pandur on here. He was featured in an article about Croatia’s top young talents at each position written years ago by the guys who run the site, long before Anonymous started subjecting us all to his presence
A couple of comments on selection/starting line up issues:
1. Having a deeper pool of players is good. Having guys on the bench who are ready is a massive user if the game. It’s not all about starting XI. These guys are top professionals they should be ready to give 100% whether for 120 minutes or 5 minutes.
2. Different positions have different skill sets. You can’t just put a centre back up front because they have a good shot. It doesn’t work like that. The main requirement for striker is Movement and playing with back to goal. Timing is crucial in when to move and how to protect the ball. That takes years to perfect.
3. Having said that I think mario pasalic could be an option as a striker. But budimir is first choice. Doesn’t matter he hasn’t scored many goals. He is playing for his club in La liga for a reason. ivanovic next choice
4. Kramaric/vlasic doesn’t matter who starts and who comes off the bench. They have different qualities. Pick based on the opponent and form
5. Kovacic. Everyone forgets how good he is. If necessary bench Kramaric DONT put him on the wing or up front. Kova, sucic, modric is fantastic midfiejd 3. Then perisic, budimir, and one of: ivanovic, vlasic, majer, Marco p, Jaga….
You know we are absolutely desperate in the striker position if Mario Pasalic is being tossed around as a potential for that spot.
2. What about Arteta making Mereno at 29 y/o play striker for Arsenal – for the very first time in his career – after being midfielder his whole life?
If that’s good enough for Arsenal then it’s good enough for the Croatia NT
There are exceptions to the rule you are describing
And the game has evolved that players are expected to be able to play multiple positions (unless they are elite elite at their position) – look at Stanisic across the back 4 – Archie Gray has play all 4 defensive positions and all 3 midfield positions (6, 8, and 10) in 1 1/2 years in the Prem at 19 y/o – that’s SEVEN different positions in the Prem at 19 y/o!
My point is Vlasic seems to profile better as a #9 then as a #10. Mario seems serviceable as a #9 too. But Dalic shouldn’t default to Budimir because he’s the “best” striker right now (which isn’t saying much) and Anonymous doesn’t agree with you that Budimir should play bc he’s plays every game in La Liga.
Since when is the only thing it takes to play for the Croatia NT is that you play for your club???
We’re the Croatia NT – we and Dalic needs to set a higher benchmark for who should play
On Vuskovic – I don’t think it’s crazy to consider him as a #9 if – and only if – that would be the best available option to go with (or maybe late in a game if chasing a goal) – like I said HSV sends him upfront to “striker” when chasing a goal because of his aerial threat and good shooting ability in and around the box
5. 100% agree with your midfield three
P.S.
While it was a different era and football has obviously evolved since then, but John Charles (Leeds, Juventus, Roma) played both as a striker and CB – sometimes both positions in the same game – he would switch back and forth
So no crazy to think a CB could also play striker there is precedent 😉
Yes Mikel merino is the perfect example of my argumen. I’m not saying players can’t play in different positions. I’m saying that the skill set you need to play in a different position is not what people think.
Let’s take merino. He is not an attacking midfielder. Saka, Martinelli and odegaard and nwaneri and madueke and trossard are all more attacking players than Merino. The have more pace, better dribbling and score more goals. So why didn’t arteta put them as striker?
Can you answer that?
My point is not that Mario Pasalic SHOULD play as a striker, it’s that he COULD play as striker. He would be ABLE to. Luka vuskovic or Gvardiol COULD NOT play as striker. Vlasic MAYBE, but less likely than mario P.
Different positions are like different instruments in a band. Yes sometimes a drummer can also play guitar, or more likely bass guitar as they are related. But the requirements for playing lead guitar are not simply quick fingers. You have to know the shapes. Some players can do that, others can’t. The clues are not in their basic attributes. The clues are in the TYPE of touches and movements they make.
Much obliged
If Dalic is hellbent on starting Mario Pasalic, I’d rather have him up top then on the wing (where he provides nothing).
He’s a central player, and we need to stop playing him on the wings.
Vuskovic 4th Bundesliga award this season

And the beauty ?
Dalic’s solution is to keep making press comments that his players aren’t playing at their clubs and need to impose themselves more
No shit Sherlock !
Why don’t you actually figure out what makes each player tick and get inside their head and man managed them to get themselves to push
Oh wait – you have an F- in man-management skills
Got it !
He could be doing it for a variety of reasons…
#1. to motivate players to step up at club level, by having them think that there are starting spots available to those who perform well (even though we already know who the starting eleven will be in June)
#2. to set expectations low and not get bashed in the media and fans if we crash out again (like we did at Euro2024)
#3. as a tactic for his contract negotiations (that still hasn’t been finalized)
…and my favorite (which I hope is true)…
#4. to backtrack on his Luka Vuskovic and Adriano Jagusic comments about them being too young to play (after finally seeing the light and realizing that he needs them to play big minutes at this tournament at the expense of players like Sutalo, Duje, Kova and others…but needs to justify it to maintain a happy locker room)
Let’s go back to his Nov 19th comments to NovaTV:
“Only the veterans are playing. Luka, Perišić, Kramarić, Pašalić… These are our most important players, and the others play a bit, then don’t play. That’s a problem and we’ll talk to the players about it. We’ll tell each player what their status is and what they need to do.
Croatia doesn’t have the luxury of writing off certain players. If everyone ends up playing, then I’ll have to cut someone. We’ll make the best possible selection so that we are as strong as possible at the World Cup. In my eight years on the bench, this may be the most uncertain situation regarding the squad list.”
The implication is that to make the Croatia NT all you need to do is start playing at your club – since when is just playing at your club – sufficient to make the NT ??? This is bizarro world. He is setting the expectations on the players so low – as long as they can get minutes at their clubs – than their spot on the NT is secure (unless everyone plays than he picks the best!) – it’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard
But on your options
I wish #4 was true – but if he wants to manage the dressing room – isn’t it better to do it in person when they met ? I know he’s saying similar things now around Christmas – so maybe he wants to reiterate
#2 seems the most likely (although I think you give him too much credit) and also #1 and #3 seems plausible (although for #1 it goes back to my man management point – he should be doing it individually <<<<>>>>
I guess the issue is Dalic has said so many things over the years – that none of it is credible anymore e.g. a year ago he said “You need to play for your club outside of Croatia for 2 years at a high-level consistently to be considered for the NT” vs. today “Please, just get some minutes, a few minutes every month, so I can fill up the team!” – he also said a year or two ago “Only pick from Dinamo” vs. today Fruk getting called up, Jaga on stand-by and zero Dinamo players. It’s just flip flop stuff over and over again – I don’t think there is any real meaning when he says this stuff – it just comes out of his mouth
Well, I think he made the Dinamo comments right after Dinamo handily beat Fenerbahce and Maccabi in Europa and were in first place with 6 points (so he got a little ahead of himself there).
Dinamo has been in shambles since then, so he’s probably making amends by giving Rijeka and Slaven players a callup (or standby callup).
Actually it’s SEVEN players at least
He’s failed to man managed Wedding Boy and the fiasco (now wedding boy is looking at moving to 4th tier)
Also Butter-Tart Baturina not telling him he needs to be a two-way midfielder (and now sitting on Como’s bench and useless when he gets on)
So SEVEN FAILURES under Dalic’s watch
Anonymous is sure there is more!
Anonymous laughs at Dalic crying he doesn’t have any attackers
You know whose fault that is – it is his !
Let Anonymous explain
Dalic has TERRIBLE MAN MANAGEMENT skills – he has not been able to manage:
– Kalinic (went home early 2018 bc didn’t start)
– Ante Rebic (got himself thrown off the team after 2018)
– Livaja (let him freak-out in front of those fans and provoke him at the NT and now he doesn’t want to come back after Dalic begged him)
– Petkovic (not focused enough and too fat never maximized his ability)
– Manzukic (retired too early)
– etc
All five of them are not easy characters – and each requires a specific and tailored man management (and understanding of their individual psychologies) to maximize their talent and commitment to the NT and careers
Ironically, Bilic had the hardest job of any coach i.e. early/young Mandzukic – Bilic was able to get inside Mario’s head and get him to push and focus on both the NT and his career – without Bilic – Mario would have ended up like a Livaja or Rebic or probably worse – Dalic wasn’t able to convince Mario the job wasn’t done in 2018 and to continue for the sake of Croatia
So Dalic should look inward and realize he has failed the Croatia NT by not being able to manage all these egos – if it was one player – okay shit happens – but at least five difficult players he wasn’t able to get in their heads and manage them appropriately
Sure it’s easy to man manage Luka Modric – who is individually driven and focused and needs nothing from a coach – but Dalic is getting paid to deal with the difficult players that need more individualized focus
Not sure why Anonymous is the first to recognize this and call this out but Dalic gets a big fat F- for his man management skills
This is the dumbest thing I read in all the years of this site.

Vlasic is off the bench . If Kova can walk , he will play. Dalic loves the oldies but goodies. Wish Niko the best and if he gets his chance , I hope you pops one.

Ghana-watch
ex-Arsenal striker/LW Nketiah came on for Palace yesterday
He scored 16 goals in 17 games for England U21
He can still play for Ghana at the WC (only one cap in a friendly for England)
Jeez – Ghana is STACKED with forward options – meanwhile Croatia has zero forward options
The guy isn’t even playing for Ghana first off. Secondly, he plays for England and won’t start for them. He played one game in 2023.
Croatia will be fine for next year. Perisic is scoring on PSV. Budimir is hitting double digits again. Ivanovic is young.
What’s so special with England? They’ve lost two European Cup Finals in a row. You see any of their big forwards pull big in semis or finals? No sight of them. Meanwhile Perisic and Mandzukic have as many big goals than Kane or Sterling etc.
Vlasic can’t be a #10 for Croatia NT
He doesn’t carry the ball (by dropping deep to collect like a James Maddison) nor does he have particularly good vision/passing to open up defence with some magic (like a James Maddison or Xavi Simmons)
Croatia midfield needs a 6 and two 8 as we don’t have a #10
However
Dalic should consider Vlasic as a #9 over Budimir – he offers more on the ball and off the ball – aggressive, physical, pressing, will run, good shot, great knack for getting in right place to receive the ball to shoot
But he doesn’t create enough to just hang around the field as a #10 (like what Baturina was doing at Dinamo)
Vlasic is more of a number #10 than he ever will be a #9. Dalic in all likely hood will play with one lone striker and Vlasic does not fit the bill for that, for one he is not tall enough to cause any aerial threat to the opposition.
Budimir will be the first choice for the #9 with Matanovic or Musa as his probable replacements.
“Budimir is tall and offers height”
Who cares that he’s tall ?
How many goals has he scored for the NT from 100+ corners he’s been in the box for bc of his height ?
ZERO ZERO ZERO
Not every striker has to be 7 feet tall – Jermain Defoe, Ian Wright, etc etc etc – and Vlasic is taller than them
Igor hasn’t played for any club in 2 years
The best team in MLS is equivalent to 4th tier in England (League Two)
It’s Vlasic by default
In 16 LaLiga games Budimir has 3 open-play goals (+3 penalties)
That’s TERRIBLE
That’s an open-play goal every 422′ to be precise LMAO
Suker in his prime was scoring an open-play goal every 90′ (actually less than every 90′)
So Budimir production is FIVE TIMES WORST than prime Suker
Yes folks are acting that Budimir is a shoe-in
It’s embarrassing – he isn’t good enough – does nothing with his height – and offers ZERO off the ball – we need someone else up front
https://www.transfermarkt.us/ante-budimir/leistungsdaten/spieler/46413
He was a shoe-in based on last year’s results, when he was a top scorer in the best league in the world.
Now that he’s started the season slow, the starting striker role is back up for debate.
Ideally, a young guy like Ivanović will get hot later in the year (and make the decision easier) but right now, we need Dalić to earn his salary and figure out what can work up top instead of just defaulting to adding more veteran midfielders.
Moro has cemented his starting spot in Bologna. If Kovacic doesn’t regain his form before the World Cup don’t be surprised if it’s Moro Vlasic and Modric starting vs England
No chance this happens

P.P.S.
Of course Sosa is on the bench today – what a beta-loser spending the season riding the pine instead of actually going to a team where he would be playing
Who cares.
He was a major weak link at the last World Cup…and when he scored that nice goal against Poland for us (in last year’s Nations League), I was scared for a moment that he would become a regular starter for us again.
I’m glad that Dalic has moved away from Sosa and Jura as our LB and RB options. They are both far too defensively weak, and Sosa especially is too passive offensively too.
I’m not crazy about Gvardiol being wasted at LB for us (when he was insane at CB for us at WC2022)…but at least it’s better than Sosa being there.
I’m hoping that Dalic figures out (over the next 6 months) that Stanisic should be our LB and that we need to move Gvardiol at CB permanently.
I don’t care about Sosa either
Just an excuse/cover to post about Ttenham 🤣🤣🤣
Gvardiol has to be CB
Best defenders need to be centrally especially vs an England
Dutch play Mickey VDV as LB as they also have CB Virgil, de Ligt, Timber – so other strong CBs available
Dalic can’t throw Gvardiol at LB when he doesn’t have equal (or near) quality CB to play instead (like the Dutch do with Mickey) – it’s stupid
Stanisic LB
Jakic, Valincic or Smolcic RB
Still need another proper LB backup for Stanisic – nosepickers need to find someone
Vuskovic
Stay in Hamburg (or go to Barca)
CBs Dragusin and Takai on bench for first time this season vs. Palace
Romero, Micky, Danso, Dragusin, Takai + Davies, Gray, Paulihna
That’s 8 players you’d be competing with CB minutes for
P.S.
While we all know Anonymous’ eye tests are the best
Anonymous medical assessment are also WORLD-CLASS
They mentioned Takai has small feet and hence his plantar fasciitis is chronic and nature
Nobody believed Anonymous – when will you MORONS learn ?!
Well – it took Mr. Small Feet SIX MONTHS of recovery just to make Tttenham bench for the first time
Hence, Anonymous has added an Olympic gold medal in medical assessments (alongside Olympic gold medal in eye tests)
Vuskovic
Stay in Hamburg (or go to Barca)
Both Dragusin and Takai (aka Mr. Small Feet) on the bench for first time all season – they will need to get minutes – so you’d be competing with 5+3 other CBs (Davies, Gray and Paulinha can also play CB)
x.com/spursofficial/status/2005296593046577164?s=46
Let’s hope he hits that Croat mature prime for the late twenties early thirties
Good goal by Vlasic, hopefully Dalic plays him in the midfield behind the strikers and not on the Right wing.
Vlasic has been an animal this year. The amount of clutch moments he came in. It wasn’t pure luck he scored twice against Japan & Brazil in penalties.
Niko is in great form at the right time. I say a player off the bench for us in 2026 and he can drive it home. The goal against in Montenegro is his signature goal. Keep it going Niko
Player off the bench? Ma daj! He has been a unit and needs to be on the field.
Who gets benched though?
There are three spots in central midfield.
Modrić and Sučić are starters with Krama in front of them. Once Kova is back from injury, you know that Dalić will do whatever he can to start him (even moving Krama on the wing to accommodate).
Vlašić will be one of the first off the bench. It would be tough to see him start.
Sucic is still young and inexperienced. It absolutely makes zero sense to start him. Kramaric is slow and isn’t getting as much minutes at Hoffenhiem. Kovacic won’t have his same rhythm coming back from his injury. That’s what kills me with Dalic. He opposes change.
I agree that Kovacic should not start, even when he’s back. He will be out of form, and it will still be hard for him to crack our lineup even when he gets back into it (since we already have solid central midfielders starting in his favored position).
Sucic being “young and inexperienced” is a Dalic-caliber argument.
Sucic is our most consistent player, and I can’t recall a poor game from him when he suits up for us.
Vlasic does not cover the ground Sucic does and Sucic is too valuable on both sides of the ball, which is especially important if Dalic is planning on starting Duje, Sutalo or Pongracic in any of the CB roles. Sucic is our best midfielder outside of Modric. Sucic needs to start.
We do need to move away from Krama, but he’s been such an elite finisher for us in the last tournament and this qualifying campaign. When he plays in his ideal role (behind the strikers) he has been automatic for us.
This is the only spot I would start Vlasic…but it’s a hard sell to replace our leading scorer with him.
Which is why I am afraid of Dalic trying to do the whole “put as many good players on the field regardless of position” tactic.
I’m afraid of him pulling the “Euro2024 special” where he moves Krama on the wing…or worse, up top in the lone forward role (like he did against Italy) just we can get Kova in there.
Vlašić at 28 is in his athletic prime.
I actually like him at Torino playing the 10 and taking all the penalties.
He is always a plus for us as he brings that aggressiveness in the final third.
Is there a better 10 right now for us than him?
He also could be hungry for one last transfer to a big club after a good World Cup showing.
Ollie Watkins and this English team is starting to really scare me. The talent they have is far better than ours and they must be a top perspective to at least reach the semis. Villa-Chelsea – Watkins set ups and bags a brace, finally the EPL is paying off for those chirpers instead of all the foreign talent that’s been the backbone of EPL for decades. They look like they’re International development is dis on paying off through their domestic leagues. come WC 26 I’m praying forst and foremost no key injuries, at least a tie, hoping for win tho really don’t see it sad to say and just anything but a loss especially emabrassment. Not a fan of those chirpers.
Vlasic is looking really confident on the field now and is producing really good statistics. It’s too bad West Ham played him out of position and gave up on him so quick. He is doing well now and is getting seasoned for the World Cup but I would like to see him at a bigger club next season.
