The glory lives! Dinamo Zagreb dominated the match against FC Sheriff today from start to finish and advance through the third qualifying round of the Champions League on a 4-0 (5-0 agr.) score.

Dinamo was missing key players such as Sammir due to suspension and young phenom Mateo Kovačić due to injury, but that did not stop the home team from controlling all 90 minutes of the match.
Though the midfield was well controlled by the likes of Milan Badelj and Arijan Ademi, no one can say Sammir and Kovačić were not missed. Several open goals were missed during the match by midfielders that the two absent players surly would have finished. Despite these misses, the modri did not lack in the scoring department.
Dinamo workhorse and defender Domagoj Vida kicked off the scoring in the 15th
minute after taking advantage of a terrible mis-play by the Sheriff keeper. Vida did what every smart player would do and followed in a ball after a shot. His hard work payed off and put the boys on the board. Vida was on a tear in the match, playing as a wingback, he went from goal box to goal box throughout the match.
Fatos Beqiraj also had an outstanding match scoring one goal, and nearly scoring two more. He faced the keeper on a one-on-one, but was denied. Shortly after, Beqiraj used his speed to beat a defender to reach a pass and smashed a shot with outside of his foot to bend it around the keeper..
The second half was much of the same. Dinamo was in command of the midfield and gave the opposition little room to work with. Dinamo connected well on their passes and stayed crisp throughout the match. By far the best match they played in the qualifying rounds of the Champions League.
Two more goals were scored in the second half. Newcomer, Duje Čop scored from three yards out on a defensive blunder in front of the goal. Late game substitute, Luis Ibañez also scored. Only three minutes after setting foot on the field, Ibañez makes his patented run down the left side of the field and strikes a hard one in the net in the 87th minute.
A boisterous crowd of 16,000 watched the spectacle and made their presence heard. The BBB stayed loud, proud, and kept security busy, as did other fans inside Maksimir.
A special guest was also in attendance. Gold medalist Sandra Perković was in the stands and also received a special ceremony on the field at half time. She was greeted by Kovačić and awarded flowers, a scarf, and a personalized Dinamo away jersey.
Dinamo will find out who their next opponent is for the play off round on Friday August, 10.
Dinamo: Kelava – Vida, Tonel, Šimunić, Pivarić – Ademi, Badelj – Leko, Alispahić (od 64. Peko), Rukavina (od 85. Ibanez) – Beqiraj (od 77. Čop)

Slovenske picke! Alpski srbi!
Dinamo draw Slovenia’s NK Maribor in the CL playoffs. Any thoughts?
It’s a real shame they have to sell Vukusic.
Jadnici, we’re jealous because we go on. Daj ne seri…as always, Dinamo has to lead Hrvatska……again.
2 -0 Hajduk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hajduce znaj, jos nije kraj… igraj i nikad se ne predaj!
opa here comes the jealousy. purgeri. let us enjoy this in peace.
Dukicu, opet seres. I’m not the only Dinamo fan complaining. Hell, I didn’t even complain about this. Citaj prvo onda kenjaj.
Not from me buddy only on derby day 😉
Hajduk and Inter are playing. I’m sure the anti-Dinamo chants will be starting soon since Dinamo literally has no association with either of these two teams.
Fuck I wish I was watching this live!
Blazevic is a wall today!
it should be 4-0
this is a shocker….at this very moment Mladen Grdovic is beating off with one hand and drinking wine a bevanda with the other hand.
What’s the aggregate now, 3-2 Inter? Holy shit they could tie this?????????????? Cuda!
Samo naprid bili!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Come on Hajduk!!!!!!
Thank you for your comment about Ivan Peko, JerseyCro. I hope he’s better than you’re saying but so I guess he’s not.
I saw the last 15 minutes of the game of Slaven Belupo. They sure have the spirit. If it ever should not work out with Stimac, their coach wouldn’t be a bad choice at all.
Now I’ m following Hajduk. I know it’s because a lack of money, but I prefer young players in the team above players like Andric who had a nice career but obviously isn’t good enough anymore weak when they play bigger teams.
hajduk zivi vjecno. outplaying inter right now.
Slaven Belupo are one of our few professional clubs in Europe, they always give a good account for themselves, beating Athletic Bilbao is no small feat
Good Lord, heavenly Jesus……..Hajduk is up 1-0. They are up against a real team, 1-0. A real professional team.
This is breaking news.
These Vegeta-fed boys are looking good against Athletic Bilbao right now, I’m hoping for another goal to force ET.
Nice effort by Slaven so far today.
I have always fund it amusing how these Lesbians end up looking like Justin Bieber. They even have those shaggy hair cuts.
@Jelic
Fantastic book!
Canadian soccer team wuz robbed! Read the Fix by Declan Hill and all will become clear.
Abby Wambach is clearly a dyke, like Megan Rapinoe!
Abby Wambach is a man.
what will happen first: Hajduk scoring a goal today or Abby Wambach (US female soccer player) saying she likes men?
Colin O’Haravić je kralj !!!!!
Ante BBB!!!
@Ante B. – I got your back here. Don’t worry.
jebate te dinamo. stop bitching. ante youre like the only purger on this site. thats why there arent more dinamo articles. supply and demand.
Since we are requesting posts….can we have one about the utrka magarca
@Ivica,
Overrated or underrated, it still is a rivalry since independence. Without rivalries, sports would be boring. Sometimes, its dificult for Hajduk fans and dinamo fans to get together and cheer on the national team which I think is stupid.
I remember in 2008 on an organized fan bus from Zagreb to Klagenfurt, a couple of dalmatinci started to sing dalmatinske pisme and a couple BBB got upset and we had to separate them in the bus. Lets just say that bottles were flying, luckily they were plastic. No need to sing dalmatinske pisme at that time.
You are right about rooting for Partizan. Thats insane.
@Ante B,
“Remember don’t ask what CSR can do for you, ask what you can do for CSR which includes Dinamo.”
Exactly my friend.
Colin, Zach, Crippler, Tom, Goldenchild, Brane, Valentina, Miss CSR, King Bronk, and yourself have all contributed with articles. The rest of you have contributed through comments. We have a nice little team here.
I should have had a Dinamo post up last night ready for the rest of you to comment. Life was in the way and I completely forgot when I came home at 2am and left for work at 8am.
Congrats to Dinamo, I wasn’t expecting 5-0. Great for HNL’s coefficient, but I still cant root for Dinamo. Rivalry is what sports is all about. There are always greater rivals and greater evils(Partizan, Zvezda, other Serbian teams, etc etc,) I would never root for greater rivals over Dinamo.
I am not a hard core Hajduk fan, not a hard core Dalmatinac, not a hard core Hrvat. I dont go out there trying to prove myself to anyone. I am a Hajduk fan, I am a 100% dalmatinac and 100% Croatian(born in the states). That doesnt mean that I shouldn’t root against my rival team from Croatia. That doesnt mean that someone that does root for Hajduk and Dinamo is crazy. I respect Dinamo, I respect the BBB and have never been biased against Dinamo. Any achievement by Dinamo is an achievement for Hrvatska. However, you will never see a Dinamo flag at my house.
Lets say Hajduk or Dinamo got relegated to the 4th division because of match fixing. The HNL would be dead for 4 seasons. No disrespect to all the rest of the HNL teams, as I have watched Slaven Belupo and NK Zagreb a few years back in Zagreb, but people show up to watch the big boys.
Sheriff no good team anyways
@ mali HRVAT
I’m the same.
I don’t care much about any overrated Hajduk Dinamo rivalry either. My only goal is for our national team to succeed. If either of them are in Europe, then I want them both to succeed. Success for either team puts a positive perception on Croatian football as a whole, and it gives all the young players on each team more exposure to bigger clubs.
I knew some so-called die hard Hajdukovac who claimed to be some hardcore Dalmatinac (even though his family was from Pag), and he was actually going for Partizan when Dinamo (a.k.a Croatia Zagreb) thrashed them 5-1 on aggregate back in ’97.
That’s messed up.
As a casual Hajduk fan, I am happy to see another HNL team advance in Europe. I honestly can’t see anyone supporting the NT and not rooting for Dinamo in Europe.
Perhaps, I am a product of the Yugo days, but we only disliked Serb teams. Even though my family is from Dalmatia, I still have a Dinamo book bag from 1981, that I got from an uncle during a visit.
I love the Ante B. enthusiasm on this site regarding the ignoring of Dinamo. However, its not fair in this instance. Ignore the fact there are more Hajduk articles, more attention to Hajduk, covering the game live in Split and not in Zagreb, etc.
Do what I did instead: start writing your own Dinamo articles and don’t complain as much. You’re literally holding your own keys.
Remember don’t ask what CSR can do for you, ask what you can do for CSR which includes Dinamo. Just remember your pandering to a Hajduk based audience and you should be ok.
Black….Peko is one of the worst players on Dinamo, basically a depth signing nothing more 😉
Helsinborg or Maribor is the ideal draw, AEL is a tricky one, they beat Partizan in Belgrade with 10 men. Don’t know too much about the Israeli team. Cluj is the best of the bunch, they have CL experience
List of potential opponents as Dinamo enter the final round a seeded team
CFR 1907 Cluj (ROU)
Helsingborgs IF (SWE)
NK Maribor (SVN)
AEL Limassol FC (CYP)
Hapoel Kiryat Shmona FC (ISR)
Good to see Dinamo goes to the next round. Does anybody knows something about Ivan Peko. I saw him playing last week against Sheriff and he looked like a decent modern right wing who is capable to pass a defender?
@Ziva
Im fine with just reminding people who the best team in Hrvatska will always be.
that was fast
@poglavnik – here ya go.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EAgtz_2yrs
@poglavnik……..then volunteer to handle the coverage yourself or find another site. That is what I do when i am looking for info, opinions on other topics.
@Ziva
Well at least your Hajduk coverage on this website seems to be years ahead of Dinamo’s.
Vida rules!
This guy is only gonna get better too!
I’m more happy about the 8-2 hammering our boys gave the States just now in waterpolo.
Colin O’Haravić je kralj !!!!!
IBANEZ!!!! 4-0!!
Duje Cop scored. I don’t know if I should laugh or cry after seeing him score.
Congrats to Dinamo in securing a European berth this season. If the draw is kind they may get into the CL again. They can thank Platini for that and his watered-down qualifying process.
And before this gets out of control, too all my fellow Hajduk fans. Don’t go all ape shit now because Dinamo got through to another round of european play. Kindly excpet reality and realize that Dinamo is years ahead of our Hajduk. There is no use in comparing the play on the field between both teams or trying to justify it in some crazy manner..
DUJE!!!!!! 3-0!!! Man, this team has just handed over 2 goals today.
I think this game would be a little tighter with Sammir. Definitely still need him, especially when we face a real team in the tournament.
As for the crowd? Looks like they’re just having fun. haha
What’s going on in the crowd?
Who needs Sammir?
Damn. It should be 4 or 5 nothing right now. Blowing chances left and right now.
Whole team is looking good. Really controlling this match. Vida is on a tear running up and down the field.
An no worries everyone, I’ll have the report after the match.
sorry boys, no disrespect to Dinamo. I’m out of the office and on a lap top at Starbucks flipping between the water polo and Dinamo game.
Nice goal from Beqiraj. Water polo looking good.
