Surprise! Dinamo Zagreb are the champions of Croatia once again.
The Modri rolled into Poljud only one point shy of capturing the 2022-23 Prva Liga title. A scoreless draw propelled Dinamo to their sixth title in a row, and Igor Bišćan’s first as the club’s manager. Also, this is Dinamo’s 17th league title in the past 18 Prva Liga seasons.
However, a more competitive 2023-24 season seems very likely. Already without star player Mislav Oršić, Dinamo are expected to sell Josip Šutalo, Martin Baturina, Luka Ivanušec, Bruno Petković, and possibly Dominik Livaković this summer. With Hajduk loading up on young talent this year, fans could be in for a treat this time next year.
20 year-old Baturina led Dinamo in assists this season (9), while Petković led in goals (9). Josip Mišić and Petar Bočkaj were also standout performers for the squad.
Congratulations, Dinamo!
Even though Dinamo would have eventually won the title, what a pitiful display among the two top teams for an important match.
I can’t see how anyone an watch this slop and say it’s actually better than MLS.
For the 1st time ever a Canadian-Croat from Vancouver starts for Hajduk vs Dinamo. Niko Sigur. Nice for the dijaspora in Vancouver. I know they have a rich Croatian nogomet history in Vancouver. A few Canadian hrvati made it out of Vancouver but this is the 1st to ever play for Hajduk in the prva Liga vs Dinamo. Jazic was the other Canadian to play for Hajduk but he is from Eastern Canads. Bravo Sigur!
That’s amazing
He’s Burnaby born
His high school notre dame is where Croatian school was on Friday nights
I imagine it’s still a thing if anyone knows?
I’m a Burnaby boy born and raised
Good luck to him
Would be amazing to somehow see a Canadian kid play for the repka
That game was Zzzzzzzzzz….
Not sure if Dinamo sells Bruno. Plus, they may bring Orsic back.
Baturina will still be around and may make a big step in his development.
Hajduk is looking better recently, especially since they dumped a lot of those third rate foreign role players and are actually playing their homegrown players. Funny thing is they finished better this year, than in previous years when they were overpaying these 30 year old foreign midfielders.
However, Hajduk’s talent is still pretty young and will need more time as Dinamo still has more depth with those experienced HNL veterans (like Bockaj, Ristovski, Misic, Drmic, etc.) who probably won’t be going anywhere.
I don’t want Hajduk to get greedy and start trying to make moves for veteran players. They should hold the line and keep integrating their youth like Pukštas, Brajković, Vušković, etc. A lot of these guys are looking good for their age and within a few years Hajduk could produce us some National team players (and perhaps win a HNL title along the way).
Definitely agree with your Hajduk analysis. The young players probably need a bit more time than one year. Unfortunately, Hajduk will probably sell them while they’re still in their “potential” stage and before they’re able to make a big splash in the HNL (look at Biuk, Ljubicic, etc).
Also hoping Hajduk doesn’t spend any serious money on any 32-year-olds who played a few games for the Croatian national team. Signing Ferro is a great start, and hopefully Awaziem stays.
They let Dinamo win the title on their turf?
Hajduk nema muda….
