The champions of Croatia have been crowned again. Only weeks after wrapping up the league championship, Dinamo Zagreb beat RNK Split in a fierce battle that ended with Dinamo lifting the Croatian Cup for the 13th time.
Split gave a valiant effort and held Dinamo scoreless for 90 minutes and forced the game to go into extra time at Maksimir stadium.
After and additional 30 minutes, the score was still scoreless and the match entered the penalty phase; the phase that leaves the match up to a mixture of chance, luck, and destiny.
It was Anonijo Ježina against Danijel Zagorac in a battle of goalkeepers, as to who could stop the most shots.
Tomislav Barbarić and Angelo Henriquez were the first to step up to the spot and both were successful in beating the opposing keeper.
Next came Marko Rog’s attempt, but his shot struck the post and stayed out of the net. His counterpart, Jeremy Taravel’s shot was precise and went past Zagorac into the net.
Slavko Blagojević blasted his attempted over the goal, while Domagoj Pivarić hits his shot in off the post.
Antonio Mršić kept his team alive with a goal, but Paulo Machado ended the game with the final penalty of the game.
“”I’m delighted and proud to be in charge of these boys,” said coach Zoran Mamić after the match. “This was one of my sweetest victories. This crowns a perfect season for us. It was a very exciting final and at the end we simply had more luck.”
The cup win, along with the league title for Dinamo, leaves an additional European spot left for the fourth placed team in the league. as of now, that leaves NK Lokomotiva to enter the Europa League qualifying rounds for the upcoming season.
Dinamo Zagreb as even more to look forward to in the coming season.
Several million dollars will be invested in Maksimir Stadium, adding roofs over the north and west stands.
But NK Zadar will not be playing any matches at Maksimir next season.
The final appeals are over and all current first league teams with an exception of Zadar have been granted licences to play in the first league next season.
Zadar, who seem to be destined for relegation on their own, will be playing in the Druga Liga regardless of where they finish in the first league this season.
Only two teams in the Druga Liga have been granted first league licenses for next year: NK Hrvatski Dragovoljac and NK Inter Zaprešić. HNK Gorica did not obtain a first class license, despite having a very good chance of entering the first league next season.
Well, thats 6 straight years now Kvartuc. Even Michael Jordan didn’t win 6 straight.
Ollie Bujic finishes in the top 2 every year. Dude figured it out.
Congrats to Celine Dion Dublin!
And to Svircic for beating Kvartuc yet again.
No shame in a top 8 finish though Ante…
Didn’t HNS say they were appealing the decision?
What happened with that?
Srna will be healthy for Italy
Goals this weekend by perisic, kramaric and olic
Jebes repku! Jebes sve HNS unistija je nogomet 1000% nemamo ligu ni vodstvo time for change! Italy in a empty stadium who cares for this gaem rally??????
Tattoo related injury?
Hahaha…..I hate that stupid neck tattoo, he looks silly!
Really, no Srna against Italy?
That makes things interesting.
I’m actually kind of excited now to see if Vrsaljko or Jedvaj gets a shot at the RB spot and how they do.
Hopefully Pranjic gets a tattoo-related injury and gives us a chance to finally play a capable LB/RB tandem together.
Why are we talking about this tangerine story?
This happened like 100 years ago, lol.
I think I recall someone posting the link here a while back already.
@ Mr. Black
Darijo scores a nice coup! He bought Tangerines from his hometown, thereby helping out local businesses. THEN he donates them to the children of war-torn Ukraine. Talk about killing two birds with one stone!
Srna may not be as sharp as he was on the footballing pitch, but there is no question he is pretty sharp off it.
Now speaking of Darijo, it was reported that he may not play against Italy because he picked up an injury. So all you Srna-haters will get a taste of life after Srna. Let’s see if Vrsajko can take on the RB role, and put in an excellent performance.
Vs Italy Subasic Vrsaljko Vida Jedvaj Strinic Brozovic Kovacic Rakitic Perisic Pjaca Mandzukic!
What about this?

Darijo does the right thing :

E obstacles were the savez and leaders of the clubs. They don’t want any change. Half the clubs don’t live up to the terms of the contracts. No way they want anything that would upset the current system.
https://www.yahoo.com/sports/blogs/soccer-fc-yahoo/the-moment-where-it-all-went-wrong-for-real-madrid-131903404.html
Thats a hot and sexy cool t-shirt, best idea and design ever, guaranteed Croatian chick-magent.
so I’m guessing there were far too many obstacles for Simic, which probably means there are far too many people involved that don’t want to see rights for these players?
Well, that was Simic’s entire agenda. He wanted to put measures in place to protect players and looked into formign a union.
As with most kids who grow up playing soccer, they come from middle class or poor backgrounds, so at a young age they will sign these one-sided type of contracts. Very common in eastern Europe and S. America. If you want a good understanding of the situation, look into the dealings with Carlos Tevez and West Ham. When hew ent to West Ham, his rights were controlled by a marketing agency, not a club.
If he is not sold on a big contract, nobody is making money and nobody is having money taken from them, so it is non story.
Ukrainian youth international Artem Radchenko signs for Hajduk
so if the player never gets sold to a big contract, it may be perceived as ok…but if the contract is HUGE, it looks like a scam?
so…this seems to be the trend in the less stronger European communities…is it also normal?
I can now see why players sign these contracts but I also wonder if the power may shift to the players? If Mamic was ousted or if the players had some type of resource where they could form a “union”…could things change?
Depends on the type of contract Mamic had the kid sign……..
This is where the conflict on interest comes in with Mamic. He (well, his son) negotiates an agent-friendly/player-friendly contract at the expense of the team.
These 60/40 splits are not that uncommon in Cro. Hell, Hajduk has been killed by them in the past as well. But in Hajduk’s case, they were done to make up for deferred salary payments. Player X had not received his full salary during a 2-yr period, so when it came time when he was sold, Hajduk gave player X a 60/40 or even 50/50 split on the transfer fee
Da Silva had one of these type of agreements with Mamic. Dinamo didn’t get the full proceeds from his sale because a certain percentage of Da Silva was owned by Mamic’s agency.
about our forwards…
I also wonder why we have forwards that are somewhat gifted but not nearly as complete as many around the world. I was hoping Kramaric would change the dynamic and that he will be that guy Ziva described as a person who can “create a goal on his own”. its true, who was the last player we had that could change the game on his own…Prso?
regardless of where the goals come from, we produce good midfield players, some decent defenders but need to improve our forwards.
” In some cases it could be a 80/20 split, 70/30 split, 60/40 split, etc…..all depends”
60/40?
let’s clear this up a little. when a player get’s sold, his agent gets a portion…in this case it’s 20%…which is very high but thats the agreement. the rest goes to the club…right?
if the selling price is (for argument sake) $10 million, the agent gets $2 million and the club get the rest…$8 million…right?
when I saw the article yesterday: http://www.index.hr/sport/clanak/dinamo-16-na-svijetu-po-zaradi-od-transfera-u-zadnjih-deset-godina-tko-je-najvise-zaradio-a-tko-potrosio/820848.aspx
I noticed the earnings were stated as $87.72 million…minus 20%…equals $70.18 million…is that right?
where does this 40% come in?
With our MF or at least the capability our MF has on paper, you can almost plug in anyone at forward.
When was the last time we had a forward who was able to create a goal on his own. Outside of the Brazilian-born hrvat, everything is usally set piece goals or one or two touch goals/tap ins by our forwards.
Going back to our tie in Beograd, I was shocked when Mandzuka was able to score a goal on a breakaway. I’d say he misses that chance more than he scores.
Bandic being able to make decisions while an indictment looms over his head perfectly explains present day Croatia.
Balkan to the core.
Kalinic is a bit moody, but quiet. He wouldn’t cause issues in the locker room.
regarding transfer profibility……..that doesn’t mean DInamo received all that money either for the transfers. All depends how the contracts were written with the players. For example…….some of the players who haver been sold had Mamic’s son or someone else from the same agency representing them and they had a contract where the player or agent gets a percentage of the transfer fee. In some cases it could be a 80/20 split, 70/30 split, 60/40 split, etc…..all depends.
How? Because Bandic said so. I laughed because he’s been promising that since the early 2000s and he literally just came out of jail and is still the mayor of Zagreb.
its good to check out several web sites, you can scroll through and see exactly what they all say and the truth is somewhere in the middle. yesterday Index posted an article stating the Dinamo was ranked 16th of all European teams for transfers (profitability)…shit…this is gonna start another debate. I’ve been thinking…so, if they’re 16th and as Ante stated they owe approximately $16 million CDN but they’re talking about improving Maksimir…how’s that gonna work?
regarding Kalinic. I’ve never liked his style of play, nor do I think he’s a great forward…BUT, in the case where we do not have many of our strikers firing on all cylinders do we offer him an opportunity? I think this really depends on a few variables:
1) who’s scored for us in the last 3 games?
answer: Brozovic (x2), Olic, Pranjic, Schildenfeld, Perisic (x3), Kramaric, Modric
notice anything here? yup, our midfield has been instrumental in our goals…so, Kalinic may be in form but we aren’t necessarily in desperate need of his type of player…our system affords many players the opportunity
2) is Kalinic the type of player that fits in our system?
I really can’t comment on him, I haven’t watched him play in a loooong time
3) what’s his personality like?
is he a team guy, arrogant and cocky like Tudor? do we bring him back even though he’s barely an average forward?
Maksimir is an embarrassment. There is absolutely nothing to like about it from a spectator’s stand point. Would love to see it (along with Mamic) burn to the ground.
Listen I am no fan of Index’ editorial policy, but it doesn’t mean that every article they write is wrong either. Sometimes we don’t like reading or seeing items we don’t agree with, doesn’t mean that what is reported on is wrong.
Just like with Fox News, the liberals on this planet think everything that comes from the good people over at Fox is wrong. And we see that is not true.

That article is from Index. Are there other more reliable sources?
@ jm
Your post is way to coherent and intelligent for HNS.
Point well delivered.
I am not a fan of Kalinic but he should be given a call up based on the form you have highlighted.
We have seen many a striker blossom late in his career.
Maksimir looks like a league 2 stadium in England.
And we have folks here believing in the Balkans and Jugo nostalgia.
Not a fan of Dinamo or any Balkan behavior in Zagreb.
Naprijed
Another Chilean player for Dinamo?
http://www.transfermarketweb.com/?action=read&idsel=158178
so…mandzukic has not scored a goal in 3 months…but he’s still going to start
but
jelavic is gone
olic has not done a thing
rebic might be on pluto playing soccer
kramaric rode the bench
cop doing nothing
does kalinic deserve a call up again? 18 goals this season in about 2400 minutes. which is about 18 goals in 26 matches on a per minute basis. pretty good strike rate
maybe there is still some salvaging to be done with this guy?
Yea buddy!!!!!!!!!! You the man BBB.
Jebate links. Everybody knows who controls the media. Thats not going out in public. Its the same how everyone knows Bandic is a crook, but its ok because he steals a little less then everybody else.
Half half,
Does this link help? Looking out for my boy Dukic.

Post the links when you have a chance please.
Yea there is literally proof that much money has been put in the stadium. I think the put that those glass windows cost 20 mil or something.
I was at Maksimir in 99 and they literally didn’t have bathrooms.
Ganga,
Were you there when it was still stari sjever?
I’m all for a roof, HD scoreboard, unrestricted wifi, restarauts, wide selection of beverages and all that comes with it, but not at the expense of tax dollars.
I haven’t been to Maksimir since 1998 but from what I can see it looked better back then to what it looks like now
Dukic
“Same amount of money it took to build Allianz Arena has been “invested” into Maksimir.”
Are you literally saying that $400 million Euros has been spent on Maksimir? Do you have any documentation or links to support that claim?
Is building a stadion in Kajzerica still a topic of discussion?
I know that the Plavi Vulkan idea is dead (thank God), but there was still discussion last year of eventually building another type of stadium there. Obviously it got criticized as most people don’t want to lose the history of Dinamo playing in Maksimir.
Has there been any discussion of actually rebuilding Maksimir? Or is that a taboo subject as well due to the history of the stadium itself?
Buffalo Bills pissing trough? 😉
Nice goal by Santini. Hopefully, he goes somewhere important next season.
20 yards sounds about right. not to mention the black screen in front of the north fans you have to look through to see the field. Though, to give it credit, I’ve been in worse bathrooms in stadiums in America.
Armada,
Maksimir has been officially under construction since 1997. What better way to launder money than by making “quick fixes” to a stadium that doesn’t even have a bathroom? However you have to remember that the stadium itself is owned by the city of Zagreb and not Dinamo. That’s why Mamic wanted to build the infamous Plavi Vulkan on Kajzerica. For some reason it was abandoned.
Feet wise, no clue. You have two tracks basically around the field. First that blue monstrosity “grass” and then cement. You can’t get to the field from the stands. When you walk into Maksimir, you go through security, walk up the rotunda to the stands and walk down to your seats. If I had to estimate, 20 yards maybe?
Well done Dinamo.
Same amount of money it took to build Allianz Arena has been “invested” into Maksimir. Elections are coming up and everybody is promising stuff. Maksimir, Peljeski most, Visnjik in Zadar. Past 20 years same old story, nothing done.
Pay no attention to the license talk. We’ve seen clubs allow to play after not have a license approved.
That design with the roof makes the stadium look even worse. Can’t wait to see who gets the concession to build it.
@ Ante
You know better than most here… but what’s the rationale for all these nonsense quick fixes?
One would think that Zdravko Mamic, being the beloved, honest and shrewd businessman that he is could of EASILY secured funding for a new stadion that above being a new, upgraded home for mighty Dinamo, would be a world class facility for the repka to host games in ZG.
What gives here?
And pardon the ignorance, as I have yet to visit mighty Maksimir – but what are we talking feet wise from the first row to the actual field – basically, how much space does the track take up?
Correct statements.
With all the millions they have put into Maksimir over the what… nearly 100 years that place has been around… they could have build like three new stadiums. Putting band-aids on bullet wounds.
Ivan Santini with one goal and one assist against Anderlecht. His goal was a real beauty. Look at 2’50”.
The game ended up in a 2-2 draw. Anderlecht will not be champion in Belgium this year.
