After Dinamo Zagreb’s unfortunate performance last night, drawing 1-1 in their first leg of Champions League play against CS Fola Esch, three other Croatian clubs will be in the spotlight today in efforts to regain the dignity the country deserves in the sport.
The second round of Europa League qualifying begins today and kicks off with Hajduk Split playing against Slovenian club, FC Kopar.
NK Lokomotiva have a very tough task ahead of them as they face Greek club PAOK. PAOK is now led by former Hajduk star and boss, Igor Tudor. Tudor and his gang of Greeks will somehow afford a trip to Zagreb this evening and take on the Lokosi at Kranjceviceva.
The final match of the afternoon will feature HNK Rijeka who enter the tournament in this round and will face Scottish side, Aberdeen FC. Rijeka is fully expected to advance, but as we have see, football is a fickle sport.
Catch all the matches live starting at 1 pm EST at www.sportska-tv.com
have a couple of degrees yes
who said we are spending “so much” time ?
all we said is we play the games
dunno where u got an inordinate amount of time from ?
no different to turning on the TV in the evening. Just instead of that you turn on the xbox.
*shrugs*
idk why if u mention playing games u get so much vitriol on this site?
for all of you concentrating on video games and the exclusion of Croatia in PES/FIFA, just a few questions
have you graduated from a college/unviersity/trade school?
if so
why are you spending so much time playing video games?????????
but hey, if you are in school still – more power to you
but if you’re unemployed or looking for a job and are some big “gamer”, well…. someone failed someone in that process
Option E would be pretty funny in terms of comments. Are we still allowed to comment on Holiga’s articles?? Cos then i’d invite that one.
No HRV in video games EVER is COMPLETELY UNACCPETABLE. That is the worst option for sure.
Frankly, i’d take the more home games either empty or not playing at home, and you know why ?>
I have recently been thinking i dont mind if we can’t play at home because frankly, i dont trust our fans anymore.
I feel like each game we play at home is another chance for some stupid incident like this to happen and i hold my breath each time. So in a weird way, not playing at home / playing empty stadiums.. its almost safer for us. I mean, i dont like it – but at least there won’t be fan problems, and as i say, i dont trust our supporters at the moment.
Good for you. I can tell you he rest of Croatia doesn’t care about Lokomotiva. Just look at e attendance last week; more Serbs.
Ya see growing up on the Farm, my Dida taught me to love all things Croatian. So I kinda like to keep things Cro! And I’ll root for all Croatian teams in Europe!
You might be the only person who actually cares or wants Lokomotiva to win.
Lokomotiva unleashed plenty’a fireworks today, as they hammered Istria 6-1.
Now they better have some of that mustard left over PAOK!
E
STOP Making trouble. IDIOTS
3 points we still get in… lets hope its just that. who cares about the banning fans its ok… we will still make it without them
so basically we have to beat norway on the road to be assured 2nd spot. i can’t imagine any other game left will give us any problems
speaking of how many games are left?
my plan is to hit up france next summer
Like SO NOT OK WITH: A, B, C, and E
OK WITH: D
RE The Pushishment: Likely given a 3 pt deduction, fine, and no fans for the remaining Euro Home Qualifiers.
Time for a poll:
As we approach Thursday and UEFA decision, which of the following would you be OK with:
A. UEFA coming back with a 6 point deduction, which would tie us with Bulgaria for joint third-place in the standings.
B. Only three-point deduction, but more home matches being played behind closed doors and extended the home match ban in World Cup qulaifying.
C. A lifetime ban from having Croatia in any video game. That means no FIFA, no nothing.
D. An ISIS-style ban on all adults wearing a jersey with another man’s name on the back.
E. Aleksandar Holiga writing a weekly column for this site.
The jock sniffers, hero worshippers and jersey chaser would be devastated with options C and D.
A point deduction for WC qualifying would be rough. The playoff round to get into the tournament is something I hope Croatia can avoid forever. Even though they were successful in 2011 & 2013, those Turkey and Iceland games were nerve racking.
Agreed.
You always wonder about his body breaking down because of the disease he transports.
@ Ziva
I know that.
Just never saw Corluka as captain material. I mean, I bet he’s captain of rounding up all the diseased slooters on Zrce and plowing through a bunch of them. Probably a great captain in that regard lol, just don’t see him leading a team on the pitch.
I say 3 point deduction and a rather large fine. With that penalty it still puts Croatia one point ahead of Norway with a trip there coming in September, I believe.
I don’t think you would see any sort of penalty carry over towards WC Qualifying.
@Armada…….longevity at the club?
@Maminjo…….no inside guy these days.
Anything from Cro media is just speculation and an educated guess. When you see the type of punishment we have recently received, the next step is a points deduction. After that, if we suffer another black eye, will be a ban.
I was wondering the following: could they give us a point deduction for Euro qulaifying (very likely) and then also give is a point deduction for World Cup qualifying when it begins in fall 2016.
speaking of Coluka – how did he become captain and Lokomotiv? lol
@ Maminjo
it would be a shame if we miss this tournament…
what a waste, Modric/Rakitic/Mandzukic/Coluka and that generation all in their prime really and we’d have to wait another 2 years for them to hit a big stage….
Croatian media outlets are reporting that UEFA’s gonna hit Cro with a very hard punishment.
Not sure what a hard punishment is. To me, any deduction of points is very harsh, but it may not impact us seeing that top two are automatically in the tournament. It would have to be a lot of points (6 or more) to really impact our chances.
Not sure if it’s based entirely on speculation, or if they have an ‘inside guy’ like Ziva does.
Anyone see the pitch at Poljud today. The swastika is no longer visible as new grass was installed in that area, but the remainder of the pitch looks terrible thanks to Ultra.
So, in addition to disease, infection and homosexual activity that took place as a result of Ultra, they left the field in terrible condition.
@Iggy
Nema problema . Another good one from Rhesus Factor is “Kape sa znakovljem”
Europski Dinamo and jadan, mali I nemocan hajduk both with ties today.
She is still around, but hardly registers on the radar.
I remember when I lived in cro Doris dragojevic was huge!
@ziva ehhhh I’ll pass lol. Beats that slut severina though.
Try Lepa Brena
She’s got a good voice her music sucks my left nut thouth
I think Lejdi Gega is right up your alley…
I’m not saying I want nationalistic music but rather just music that’s worth listening to
What the.. Rhesus Factor have like a whole album with Laether Strip ?
They actually are EBM? How have i not heard this band before??
OMGosh thanks so much again Naprid ! You’re my hero of the day ! hehehe 🙂
My son was at Dinamo Zagreb’s training session today. He sent of a picture of Mamic on the field, wearing a t-shirt and shorts, kicking the ball around with the team.
Barely had time to shave off his beard from his prison stay – haha
Naprid – Thank you so much for that post !
Every cro vid on youtube i see has like 30-50 year old music and i find it SO unappealing and close them immediately.
I have been looking for music i can use in Cro vids (particularly the euro 2016 qualifiers one i will make later this year) and rhesus factor is right up that alley – cheers a lot ! Appreciate that 🙂
I would like to hear more stuff like this – this is basically EBM which is my type of music anyway
any futurepop/ebm/industrial/synthpop/hellektro etc i lovesies
@Vatrena Cast
If you want modern, nationalistic music, then here you go http://youtu.be/ewW6DhDj0FM
My personal opinion is that all the new Croatian music sounds super popy… I can’t listen to it, sounds kinda gay. Sure there is the miroslav skoro albums and Oliver albums but other than that it’s really trash. Even Thompson is getting old to me. I don’t listen to the turbo Serbian stuff either or what ever it’s called. It’s hard to find good music these days. That’s just my opinion though.
haah that is quite funny tho nonetheless, good find naprid, i didnt know about that
well it’s certainly hypocritical the shit he got in and a total load of horse manure in ’14
@ Jarac
Well I guess it’s not the original phrase either: ” Za Dom – Spremni Umrijeti” . ( Yes fellow Dijasporci that is the original phrase that has been cut down to Za Dom – Spremni )
Halilovic is coming to America!!
Looks like he’ll play quite a bit too.
http://www.espnfc.us/story/2526710/barcelona-leave-lionel-messi-neymar-off-preseason-tour-of-u
@ Naprid Bili
I guess its not technically Za Dom Spremni.
If it’s not ganga it’s not music!
Anyone interested in seeing who Fedor Emelianenko will fight in his return?
As for cajke, to je smece and Croats should have no reason listening to that (unless they’re some “yugo” or “balkan” trash)
And since we’re mentioning cro music, anyone hear this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7sA_cksl9A I guess nobody was “offended” by Za Dom in ’08.
Winners of Match 15 Winners of Match 9
If GNK Dinamo Zagreb progress they will play Molde from Norway.
Dodite nam 0-5!!!!
One game doesn’t make a great coach or make a bad coach. Sometimes you just have a bad game. Happens to everyone.
yeah rijeka fucked it up big time, past few years we keep hearing how kek is national coach material, coach of the year,
whole team was awful
can that matchup happen?? oh yeah that’d be sweet !
Man, if HNK Rijeka and Crvena Zvezda didn’t fuck up, we could have seen them face each other in Europa qualifying.
I’m still holding hope for a Dinamo vs Partizan matchup.
The last one was one of my best sports memories ever. Fresh off a war, and a 5-0 beatdown.
Ziva, we all agree with you regarding Petrovic but how do you not include Kukoc? Personally, we all know Kukoc lacks in character but his stats and acknowledgements speak for themself.
Ante…Zvonimir Boban played on one of the best teams in Europe, possibly the entire world. he played alongside of 3 of histories most famous ever players…Van Basten, Rijkaard and Gullit…then with Donadoni, Laudrup, Albertini, Desailly, Viera….all world class players and he was constantly fighting for playing time. Although he was amazing, he was one of many brilliant players in a great era for Milan…so although he was brilliant, he didn’t stand out as much as he would have at most other teams. In those days, it was very hard to stay with the same team for many years, as an import Boban stayed in Milan for 9 straight years…that says a lot about his quality but still not enough for personal achievements where he was surrounded with players that took the headlines on most occasions.
speaking of Balic…
talk about a “za dom .. spremni” type pep talk
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v63mHA0YTmo
In modren times only three Croatian athletes were at the top of their game in sports:
Petrovic – he was the best in Europe (maybe the best ever from Europe) at a time when players from Europe didn’t go to the NBA. In the mid 80s, he was in Europe what MJ was in the USA in the 90s.
Ivano Balic – best in his era and you can make the argument the greatest ever.
Janica Kostelic – maybe not the best ever, but the best during her time.
I disagree with that list. The best athlete ever to come out of Croatia was Drazen Petrovic. However if we use the title card, Kukoc wins that battle. Boban didn’t make the list? This list is simply terrible…but an opinion.
Back to basketball for a second……….another story coming out of Zagreb today that Hezonja wont play for Cro in Eurobasket. As pointed out a few weeks ago, Orlando prefers he does not play.
Plus, another one of the juniors from the U19 team that won silver at the World Championships may not be playing for the U18 team in next week’s Euros. Refuses to show up, lied about being injured so he could go to Turkey for a tryout.
@ Slavko
You receive 1 point for a tie, 1.5 for a win I want to say? Or Maybe 2.0?
Rijeka obviously got 0 for yesterdays game.
@Iggy – I thought the same about Balic too.
Janica didn’t make the list cos it’s men only, presumably – otherwise surely Blanka Vlasic would be on the list as well. Interesting that the Top 10 list came originally from Jutarnji, and so from inside Croatia. I’m sure the results would have been different in the diaspora where water polo etc doesn’t get the same media coverage outside of CRO as football, tennis, athletics etc.
@Bobby V – thank you – appreciate it !
@Marko yeah idk about that list hehe.. shouldnt balic be higher too? i dont know that much about handball but my impression was he was like the zidane of handball? at least that’s what i always heard from commentators watching Cro play.
and didnt they get the wrong kostelic ?? not saying ivica isnt great but..
also surely mirko should be there for all his pre-’07 feats
actually i retract that, they have a boxer so fair enough
liverpool is playing brisbane in about 5 minutes.. i wonder if lovren will paly
the city has bneen a pain in the arse the past couple of days
there are red cunts everywhere and the city centre has been turned red. Very annoying getting in and out of the CBD (which is work i work) atm.
Has anyone else picked up this link (from Croatia Week) to a list of the 10 greatest Croatian sportsmen of all time?
http://www.croatiaweek.com/top-10-croatian-sportsmen-of-all-time/
There’s no Boban and no Prosinecki on the list, and it’s surprising to see Petrovic as low down as number 7. Ivanisevic is at number 1 – he’s probably the best thing to come out of Split since 1911, but is he really our greatest sportsman ever??
LOL, here I was debating a few on this site a couple of months ago about Rijeka. Shit the bed is an understatement. I wonder how many coefficient pts they will receive??
Lokomotiva well done and against Tudor. Doesn’t get better.
my beloved Rijeka shat the bed tonight… good thing i missed most of this one
another Prva HNL season to look forward to and another 2nd place finish

Highlights of Koper-Hajduk 3:2
Four of the 5 goals off corner kicks. That second Hajduk goal was huge. Looks like some Torcida made it to Slovenia.
Rijeka loses at home 0-3 to Aberdeen. Didn’t expect that result. Huge step backwards?
Lokomotiva surprises PAOK at home 2-1.
Our players need to brace themselves on July 23rd, the impact of the decision is like crash landing the millennium falcon.
Hopefully, they stay mentally strong, so the decision doesn’t effect their performances on the July 23rd Europa league qualifier second legs.
UEFA originally announced July 16, but, changed it to the 23rd to allow more time for all the investigations to complete.
They want to announce all the verdicts at the same time.
So why were all of the media outlets reporting July 16th?
@Iggy – Just watched it. Damn, I was cheering just like I do for the real deal. Good taste in music, my favorite Aussie Croat!
@MartinHrvat – here’s all the incidents that the board will be discussing on July 23rd.

All media outlets have been reporting today July 16th as the date of the disciplinary hearing for the savez…yet I cannot find the results/decision. Ziva…I seem to remember you posting a different date in a previous post July 23rd I believe…am I missing something here? When is the bloody hearing and when will we know the results?
Bobby V
hehe ! i have a FIFA 08 croatia tribute on youtube with killing joke’s european super state ! hehe yay !
To that person who said maybe Cro will be in FIFA 16 just because there’s some reddit thread:
Here’s something i remember seeing about FIFA 15 about a year ago :
(this is just for you Ziva)
http://www.slideshare.net/gamebasin/fifa-15-9-international-teams-that-need-to-be-added-wwwgamebasincom
Croatia was the nbr 1 requested team
and of course we weren’t included.
So idk why someone thinks we will be in the game because there’s a reddit thread with ppl saying we _should_ be.
No shit we should be but doesnt mean it’s going to happen !
But fingers crossed !
I know this means a great deal to you personally ziva and that u won’t be able to sleep easily until our return so i hope for your sake this terrible situation is redressed soon
🙂
you’re pretty young I guess…I know Nered and thats it…and I just hate rap period!
Elemental, Maajka, Ropez, Khan…I mean I could just keep going but uzalud. Tram 11 will always be #1. They changed the game.
Real rap from back in the day. Renman, Tram 11, TBF, Nered, Stoka, Phat Phillie, Bolesna Braca, all the guys who did Blackout
My first cousin, Damir Kospic, played in the Croatian band BOA.
I listened to Joy Division, Sisters of Mercy, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, New Order, DAF, Killing Joke
Nice result for Hajduk – 2 away goals is huge.
Croatian rap…really? as in the song Srce Vatreno…or real rap?
I was into Croatian rap. Oh who’s kidding who? I still love Croatian rap. Still, it’s better than cajke
Aberdeen is a rather good team. I wouldn’t underestimate them and now they’ve got a road goal. Could be none of our teams get out of these rounds!
So, another great showing for Croatian club soccer.
Friends, I would like to remind you that we are now less than a week away from UEFA’s decision about the swastika on Poljud. So, in the remaining 6 days before the announcement, gather all your talking points and fake outrage. Next Thursday should be some fun reading on this site.
I remember late 90’s/early 2000’s, Colonia was huge, at least in the Croatian community in NY.
Kopar beat Hajduk
Lokosi beating PAOK almost at FT (?!?!?)
Rijeka down 1-0 to Aberdeen
like I said, when I lived in Mostar I heard tons of different music and that was one song I did end up thinking was good….
Pop music is a depressing medium on any level to judge humanity. I guess none of you goons ever heard Ivo Pogorelich in concert before he went crazy? Of course not, that’s classical music. Maybe you haven’t even heard of him, our greatest musical genius since who? Matacic? Milanov? Sorgo? Look them up.
I believe her to be a serb. Growing up in a “za dom…..spremni” environment prevented me from listening to her.
Is Neda Ukraden Croatian or Serbian? there is one of her songs I have to admit, I do like it…Zora je svanula!!!
sorry if this is against the rules but I heard this song many many years ago and have always liked it.
I don’t give a shit about the politics of it, I just hate the sound of serb music.
Music in my 20’s:
U2, Prince, Prljavo Kazaliste, Gazde, OMD, Technotronic, Magazin, Gypsy Kings…
In Australia we mainly listened to the American music top 40 songs because everything is Americanized here.
My question to you is this:
What type of music were you guys listening to when you were in your teens, early 20s?
The majority listens to top 40 trash. I was in my rap/hip hop phase for three years or so.
My point is that these young people don’t even have a clue what they are listening to. They just need a beat and they are good.
I remember I used to date this girl a while back. I put on…. “opp… ya you know me..” She was all into it. I ask her, “do you know what that means?” After I tell her, she didn’t like that song anymore.
Im sure if you tell a 20-year-old Croatian… hey you like that turbofolk song? Do you know that the lead singer just had lunch with Vucic?
Ha, Marko Kolar scores for Lokosi. up 1-0 against the Greeks. Hajduk is down 3-1 to Kopar.
@Slavonac……that is one thing where the diaspora hrvati deserve praise…….they are no fans of the turbo folk music.
@Ante B……..I don’t like beaches that are packed to the point where there is basically no space between you and random strangers. And that is the issue with the Makarska beaches. The place is cheap compared to other locations along the coast and that is why you get all the foot traffic in that city from our Bosnian neighbors.
I can’t listen to Turbo Folk shit…YUCK!!!
It was my first time in Hercegovina and that’s where they usually go on the more. Tucepi next time it is.
@Slavonac…….the rock scene back in the yugo days was strong. Those type of bands made music where there was not a distinctive serb sound. While I never was a fan of Yugo rock, others were and enjoyed.
But, the turbofolk music of today is terrible.
@Ante B………….Makarska should be avoided. Loaded with bosandzeros. Most of the local cafes – not all, but most – cater to them and you can hear the music from every direction. Very few locations are playing Cro music. While an ideal city in its setup and beach, the place is overloaded with bosandzeros. You are better going to Tucepi or Baska Vosa or Brela.
I’m guilty of a) liking Rozga’s music and others… and b) listening to it…but I am totally turned off by Serbian music period…the closest I’ve ever been to listening to it was back in Mostar when one of the guys I lived with used to listen to Plavi Orkestar, Riblja Corba and a few other mixed Serbo…Muslim…shit….although I didn’t mind Crvena Jabuka which I think was a mix of Croats and Muslims
16 July 2013
19:30
Fola Esch Luxembourg 0–5 Croatia Dinamo Zagreb
Report Soudani Goal 59′, 63′
Čop Goal 64′
Ademi Goal 75′
Fernándes Goal 79′
Hopefully something like that again will be good.
I agree with you. Baffles my mind. I prefer klapa, so I don’t think we’ll see the serbs enter that genre. But, the youth has no issues with serb musicians and that is where I am puzzled because that serbo style – bosnian style music is trash.
Oliver hasn’t traveled to Serbia becasue he is one of the few in Cro who has enough money and doesn’t need to. But, the serbs love him. His concerts in the US draw a good number of serbs and others from the former yugo.
Here is my policy when it comes to Croatian musical acts and singers…….If they have performed in Serbia, I won’t pay to see them live. That number is less and less each year.
So, I have no need for acts like Colonia, Rozga, and all the others who have gone to work for a dinar.
Ziva,
Small anecdote: I was in Makarska for the first time ever a couple of summers ago. I was taken to a club where the music wasn’t on and people were standing inside drinking. Then the awful awful music started that sounded very greasy. Literally heard a note and walked outside, ordered a kebab (of course) and listened to klapa for the rest of the night alone…and it was 10x better.
Ziva…I always get really confused when I hear or read about the exchange of musicians between Cro/SRB and even moreso confused when I hear Serbs singers perform in Croatia and this is part of the problem I have with thinking I am an everyday, regular thinking Croatian when in fact, I’m way out of touch with the reality in Croatia.
A few years ago, my friends son came home from Zadar…remember, this is from a hard-core, super Croatian…HDZ extreme, 100% as Croatian as any Croatian can be….and his son comes home and cranks on a Serb song called something like “kafana na balkanu”…I hear the lyrics and listen to the accent and told his dad that it was Serbian music and he was shocked when he found out it was….
I think Oliver Dragojevic is one of few left that hasn’t sold his soul…but then again, maybe I’m the one thats fucked…everybody else seems to be fine with the interchanging musicians, performing in each others country!
Friends, a topic that needs to be discussed was brought to my attention last night. What do we make of the amount of serb singers performing throughout Croatia? I know this is not new as this had been taking place over recent years, but I have finally found some time to fit it into the website’s editorial calendar.
Certainly, not the “za dom….spremni” lifestyle that I live and advocate for in having these people infest the coast. They are drawing crowds along the coast. What say you Croatian Sports Dot Com nation. Do you attend events featuring serb entertainment? If so, why? Especially to the diaspora. Enough of you have trouble speaking croatian. Is it more confusing attending an event where serbian is spoken?
and by smash, I mean we’ll beat them 2-1 probably
speaking about Dinamo…
to all you DZG fanboys – FK Beograd Zapad will show you how to take care of minnows tonight when we smash Aberdeen…
@ Marko
From the above comment, I’m not too sure how much HNL you really follow.
This isn’t the old days where it’s just all Hrvat sides for these HNL teams. Look at Rijeka, Hajduk, Dinamo – they all have a decent amount of foreigners. Even Istra have a bunch of foreigners and they usually hang around the bottom of the table. Just the name of the game today.
In regards to Dinamo, they might have a decent sized contingent of stranci, but they are one of the biggest talent factories in EUROPE, not just the Balkans or Cro.
Past and Present:
Coric
Pjaca
Brozovic
Kovacic
Halilovic
Badelj
Modric
Corluka
Lovren
Mandzukic
Jedvaj
Vida
Kranjcar
Simic
on and on
you can hate on a lot of facets of Dinamo, but their ability to produce talented kids from Cro is untouchable.
Daddy’s Boy Tomic at it again. What a waste.
@Marko……..Dinamo has done a good job of developing home grown players.
How many CRO players were actually playing in the Dinamo team? Four? If so that’s the same as the number of Portuguese players in Dinamo shirts last night.
Dinamo seem to be well on their way to becoming the new Chelsea in turning their back on home grown players. All very sad.
Time to move their future coverage onto the Portuguese Sports Report website perhaps?
Looks like Cop will be trading the island of Sardinia for Malaga on the Costa del Sol. Talk about finding work in vacation spots!
Anyway good to see Čop join a la liga team, as it would add some technical flair to his game.
Where’s our buddy Holiga when you need him?..
Agreed, europski dinamo will still advance.
I’m hoping an international media outlet like the BBC that has an investigative sports division is looking into our federation and Mamic. Would live to see a piece that puts the negative spotlight on him and the savez and the type of idiotic leadership the game led by in Croatia.
A clear mind spawns creativity….and Dinamo players lacked a clear mind to achieve peak performance. Better luck next time I suppose, hopefully they can pull themselves together for the 2nd leg.
I wouldn’t say this was a case of distractions as much as it was a case of panic and lack of strategy to break through the bus being parked inside the 18 yard box. Dinamo lacked form and creativity but they obviously heavily dominated in possession…they’ll easily go through!
Ahh, distraction argument I see. Considering a good number of the players are foreign on dinamo, I don’t see how the Mamic situation impacts them.
samo naprid
No worries, Mamic will have them prepared for the next game. Team has had too many distractions past few weeks.
Dinamo dominated could have scored more goals i still think they will get through but will get kncoked out in the next stage of qualifying with a tougher opponent.
Dinamo looked bad. Played with an extra man for the last 25 minutes and looked even worse.
Mamic just out of jail says had he not been, Dinamo would have scored 5 goals against Hajduk last weekend.
I saw the game. It was embarrassing. Even with 11 against 10, Esch didn’t have any problems.
If Dinamo plays with Pinto, Pivaric and Cekici in Luxemburg, Esch will go to next to round.
