Bruno Petković, Dinamo’s star and captain, came to the rescue today giving life to Dinamo’s title charge while simultaneously blowing up Hajduk’s season. Despite having fewer chances at Poljud in a hostile environment, Dinamo stepped up to the challenge and walked away from Split all taking three points with them. The road to victory was not easy for Dinamo. Hajduk created tons of chances in the match and could have easily scored 2-3 goals. Ultimately, Maxime Bernauer’s goal line clearance in 1st half injury time ended up killing Hajduk’s best chance to level the game. For Hajduk, the looming injury of Marko Livaja not only seemed to hinder their attack after his substitution, but could Hajduk take a lineup blow against Dinamo (Cup) and Rijeka in their next two matches. This leaves Hajduk with veteran and club legend, Nikola Kalinić, to fill in for Livaja in two crucial matches.
While Dinamo played well and fought hard to earn their victory in Split, Hajduk fans can easily chalk this loss up to their own mistakes. When push came to shove, Dinamo converted on their one chance while Hajduk went 0-3. Yes, Dinamo should have been called for a handball in the box, however, Kalinić needed to do better with his shot in the box in the 2nd half and Krovinović should have gotten a better head on the ball on his chance. If either of those hit the back of the net, it changes everything. Hajduk will only have themselves to blame after already defeating Dinamo twice this season and drawing in the third match. With Dinamo taking all three points in Spit Saturday and having a game in hand on Rijeka, they control their own destiny to win the 2024 Croatian Prva Liga should they win their final nine matches of the season. They will be favorites in every single match except for one: in Rijeka on May 5th.
Kicking tovar a.ss again in the middle of Split! lol!!!
Ps great to see Ivan back….2 months to Euro..he’ll be ready.
Dinamo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ivan Perišić is back!!!
Dinamo scores an early goal in the Super Cup.
My beloved Hajduk is about to get trounced. Went from favorites to win the division to a lost team that can’t score.
Unfortunate for Hajduk in this game but this is a bit of karma considering Dinamo were the better team in the other games and Hajduk got two wins and a tie. I’m happy we won at Poljud.
I can honestly say the debate is over between Livaja and Petkovic. Petkovic carried Dinamo to the win and he did it in style…Livaja didn’t really look like the guy we’ve seen for the last few years.
On another note, my buddy Nikola Kalinic flubs a perfect chance to score and then after that thankfully the German refs didn’t go for his usual flop in the box…he’s a total waste of space.
Dinamo weren’t their best today and for this time I’m totally ok with the result, most time they completely dominate possession and then get called names for not taking too many offensive risks. Today they won on one individual effort and that made the difference.
The main problem for Hajduk is Livaja. They rely on him too much and he is not that good. He is overweight and lazy, and Hajduk would be better off without him.
Ademi did the same thing as Kalinic in the first half when he went over in the penalty box trying to get a spot kick. He was worse than Kalinic, and was on the ground for a minute or so trying to get the VAR involved, however the TV reply’s clearly showed it was no penalty and correct decision by the German officials.
I’m happy we won at Poljud……..
debeli ti nisi igrao.
In the biggest game of the year, Petko scores and Livaja looks like a beached whale, leaving early due to an injury (how can you put on weight during the season?). Isn’t it wonderful he’s no longer on the National Team?
None of the additions Hajduk made panned out. At this rate, the contract ceremony might be the only time Perišic will wear the jersey. Brekalo has either been injured or made no impact the past 6 weeks. Kalinić couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn.
Sadly, this game exposed how bad the Croatian officiating is. The German team out there was far superior to the guys we have each week. Even Serbia produces good referees. Why can’t we?
Maybe it’s karma
Kalinic and Brekalo joined bc they wanted to jump on the bandwagon and win the HNL championship – w/out putting in the hard yards in the 1st half of the season – especially slimy Kalinic (I’ll never forget the time he provoked our beloved Srna during a match in Ukraine – you don’t do that to the captain of your National Team – if you love your country/the team)

Perisic is different – he was locked out at Spurs – Ange said in early Jan he probably won’t ever play for them again (they signed Timo Werner on loan in Jan window – who took Perisic spot) – so he needed a home to try to make it back in time for Germany
Would an insignificant Hajdukovac ever join Dinamo from playing in a good league just to try and make the National team for the upcoming Euro’s? I’d say hell no and prior to Brekalo joining them I said this for the past two years, he’s become a “komarac” (mosquito), annoying and buzzing around mindlessly, isn’t willing to put in his time and be honest with himself, be humble, work hard and play more meaningful minutes per game. I remember Ivanusec was upset but also honest about his lack of form and he said he didn’t deserve to play for our National team when Dalic didn’t take him to the last tournament.
I’m sorry but guys like Brekalo (an ex Dinamo player) have no dignity. He hasn’t been good for a loooong time and Soo many here have argued with me about him and in the end we see that in the most important game of the season he’s second choice behind Sahiti! This is not a slap to Sahiti but he’s not Croatian although he’s always gonna be a true Hajdukovac than Brekalo will ever be!
Kalinic is another breed of a weird person and I’ll never understand him or those that support him. That fucker put his personal interests in front of the National team. He then doubled down and almost caused a major shit show in the dressing room at the 2018 World Cup and the many people that stood behind him are the same people that stood behind Livaja after he took the microphone, sang shit slinging comments and then when the fans gave it back to him in Rijeka he acted like a victim and stomped his feet and left, then complained that nobody from the HNS had his back…only Torcida did!
This season isn’t over yet and there’s a lot more drama that can happen between now and the end of the season but I’ll add one more thing. I remember the comments I read stating that Hajduk are ahead of Dinamo by 11 points and the season will be over by Velika Gospa (August 15, 2023) …I know it was sarcasm but it’s also typical of their fans to yap, brag, cry about the refs when they lose and think their team are the best in the world when the truth is that they have good fans but their organization is totally inept. All the talk about everyone else is corrupt and they’re honest and perfect…this makes it all worth watching. Big mouths when they win and complete pussies when they lose!
Kalinić is a piece of crap. Nothing but am agitator for the National team. At times I wonder if he is a jugo who deep down doesn’t want our National team to succeed. Best thing Dalic did in 2018 was sending him home.
Super disappointing season for Hajduk. In their last 10 league games, they’ve dropped points against Osijek, Varazdin, Rijeka, Lokomotiva, and now Dinamo. From title favorites to mid-table performers.
favorite? nikad nisu bili. ti ne gledaš nogomet. kada? nemaju igrače i još ozljede.
They were leading the league at the halfway point and Dinamo looked the worse they’ve looked in years. How were they not favorites
Volim te Dimamooooooooo!
gdje ste hajdukovci. gubitnici
It’s all over for Hajduk after today’s loss to Dinamo. I wonder if they are going to blame the German referee for the loss? On Wednesday Dinamo again at home in the SF of the cup.
Marco Pasalić finally scores for Rijeka after a long drought.
I am rooting for him, since we never replaced a midfielder such as Rakitić on the National Team who has speed, passing ability and the ability to score an occasional goal.
Does anyone have a link for the Hajduk/DInamo match?
While I’m happy with the senior team’s achievement in Egypt, I’m quite perturbed by the U21s who shipped 5 goals in Portugal. Any thoughts on that, my brothers?
Yes, it was a disaster when we went down 4 – 1 in the 25th minute I could not watch anymore and switched over to Georgia v Greece match. I have seen all our U21 matches so far, and I have written before on this site that our U21 defence is one of the worst that I have seen in a very long time for any of our national team’s, youth or senior.
The coach Dragan Skocic is also very inconsistent with the team selections and his tactics. Against Portugal he started with 3 – 4 – 3 formation and we got destroyed conceding in the second minute and being 4 – 1 down after 20 odd minutes. It could have been a lot worse, but our goalkeeper Cavlina made some good saves. Skocic did change the formation and started playing with 4 at the back but by then it was all over and too late. That 5 – 1 defeat was our second worst loss in history of our U21 with the worst being a 6 – 0 drubbing by Spain some time ago.
Skocic got some criticism in the media and SN in particular for his tactics and team selections. Skocic was not helped by the fact that both Luka Sucic and Martin Baturina were not available due to injuries and call up to play for the seniors. We have 4 matches remaining all at home, so we still have a good chance of finishing second behind Portugal and ahead of Greece. Group winners and best three second teams qualify directly for the EURO while the other second placed teams go to play offs.

Huge competition to sign Dani Olmo this summer
Release clause 52m pounds
All the biggest clubs in the world getting in line to get him
Just imagine if he chose Croatia over Spain
He’s exactly the player we’re missing at #10 and/or LW
We’d basically be a complete team with him
Shame
Pity how life works out like that sometimes
I’d rather we have actual Croatians than win everything with Spanish/Brazlians/Africans.
He qualified to play for Croatia (bc time spent in HNL)
The rules are the rules
We should have done a better job locking him down for Croatia
Everybody does it – even Spain – with their wealth of talent – got Diego Costa to switch (even after playing twice for his home country Brazil) to Spain – that’s what champions do – understand the rules – and maximize their opportunities w/in the framework
The best thing for Croatia – as a country – for a long-term perspective – is for the them to win the World Cup or Euros
Let me know if you find one person who wouldn’t prefer to win WC 2022 w/ Dani Olmo in the team (who could have been what we needed to get over the hump) than come 3rd – I mean other than Davor
I’d trade the god of halilovic, Samir nije damir and gregory the great sertic and a dozen palacinke for Dani olmo that’s for darn sure
Both teams need a win to keep up with Rijeka, however I think it will be a dour
0 – 0 draw.
1-1 with Rijeka continuing to march to the promised land
Hajduk needs to win the rubber match on the 7th, as well as Dinamo tomorrow. Tall order I agree.
Word is he might play maybe sub in i highly doubt it but if he does good luck one step back having perisic as sub at euros offf bench would be great
No mention if Perisic is playing?…….Momentum is not on Hajduk’s side. That might help if he was ready to go.
Could be but might also be the case that adding the Three Amigos (Kalinic, Brekalo, Perisic) has destabilized the squad. Perhaps this is the reason Hajduk is faltering. And their crappy keeper.
Seemed like they were more focused on chasing big (or familiar) names than actually trying to fill needs
