UEFA is looking to move EURO 2021 to one nation this summer in order to cut down on travel due to COVID-19, Mirror reports.
Russia are currently the front runners to host it outright after a successful World Cup tournament in 2018 and lower active COVID cases compared to the rest of Europe.
Who knows what the landscape of the world will look like by the time the tournament kicks off in June? With a second spike of COVID currently hitting Europe, I see EURO being played, but only in front of stadiums filled to 20% capacity; if that. And obviously, moving it to one nation instead of playing it all across Europe should be an automatic and unanimous decision.
Having EURO 2020 played in 10+ cities across Europe was stupid to begin with. I get UEFA is trying to spread the love with countries that will never host a tournament by themselves – Azerbaijan, Hungary – Scotland, but half the fun of these international tournaments is fan experience. For a supporter to have to travel to three countries before their team even plays their quarterfinal match is a lot travel. On top of that, having every top European team – England, Germany, Italy, Spain – given three group stage matches at home. Dumb.
Let’s see what transpires in the upcoming weeks but this is definitely a step in the right direction. And the Vatreni didn’t do too shabby last time they played in Russia.

Halilović is 24… And there are tons of midfielders and wingers much younger than him that are so far ahead of him in their development (Vlašić, Brekalo, Bradarić, Moro, Majer, Bašić, etc.).
Even guys that are barely older than him (Rebić, Petković, Pašalić, Kovačić) are light years ahead of him, and most of these guys are permanent backups for our NT.
IMO, he’s done as a NT player.
Russia is perfect- our boys love the vodka- the new yuppies on the team call vodka the modern day shlivo- this is great news if it ends up being Russia-
I’d bet the Halilovic’s are planning on taking partial ownership of the club. If Halilovic can make them respectable, and help them recruit/build, it could be a lucrative family business.
Or is his tiny stature only suitable 2nd tier team?
I hope it’s the former.
Bloody hell…. Halilovic is still only 23?
He’s still got time.
But has to get rid of the old man.
It’s obviously just a quirky coincidence, but worth mentioning nonetheless, lol.
^^^^^
Toooooooooo
Modric subbed on and just his presence translates to Goal- Madrid 3-2. At the same time inter subbed off perisic – goal Madrid – Croats presence on both sides underestimated.
Don’t tell me we are going to become like Argentina and try to find our next Modric like the argies still trying to find the next maradona
It’s just not going to happen
Could lightning strike twice for the Vatreni
Let’s hope so
On the other hand, if he single-handedly leads the team to success, he will generate buzz. It’s rare for that to happen in football, but it’s possible. Remember Kramarić with Rijeka…
Did Barca pay him that much though?
If it was a move to EPL, then I would understand. But you’d be surprised by some of the lower salaries that are paid in leagues like Serie A or La Liga.
Also, Dinamo was forced to sell Halilović at a significant discount because his dad was pushing for an exit toward Barcelona and wouldn’t have Alen sign a new contract. This reduced his value from $15 million to something like $2-3 million.
If they were really interested in making as much guaranteed money as possible, the Halilović family would have struck a deal with Dinamo to gain a percentage of the transfer fee (and sign a new contract with Dinamo to ensure a higher fee from interested clubs).
I think Sejad Halilović bought into the hype about his son being the next Messi.
Dinamo is usually very savvy when it comes to selling off duds for decent money. Guys like Ćorić and Šimunović are great examples. They probably thought Alen had potential, but probably not that kind of potential.
Not sure how much money Halilović ended up making (as being demoted to Barcelona’s farm team and constant loans does reduce his salary).
Dinamo probably would have paid him just as much (who really knows), and they’d give him more development, exposure, and a bigger transfer (and possible payout from that).
I’m not sure if a player like Dani Olmo would leave Barcelona for Dinamo if such a huge financial gap existed.
I think Halilović made a mistake, even if it was strictly for money.
Training with Inter Zaprešić (at age 24) is completely rock bottom, and has completely reduced his earning potential entering his prime years. Nobody will pay him decently until he proves something for at least a couple of years.
Well, seems like the results are in. Dude is in his mid 20’s and is training with Inter Zapresic. Not Dinamo. Not Rijeka. Not Hajduk. Inter fucking Zapresic. Wish the kid all the best but I’m ready to stick a fork in his career. Would rather talk about our youngsters who have a future with the senior NT.
Regarding Halilovic’s old man, if I was Alen, I’d be thanking him. He made way more money going the Barcelona route than he would have made any other route.
Now, if Alen is truly good enough he can prove it now. If he isn’t good enough, I think it is safe to say his old man is a marketing genius.

Haha – Perisic-Buehler have the same Dad.
Alen Halilovic to Inter Zapresic. Somebody slap his old man.

Tell me this isn’t Ivan Perisic. Anybody else notice before?
Great news, regardless of where the tournament will be held. The world comes to party and celebrate the tournament and everyone in the host country becomes emotionally invested. Sharing the tournament amongst many countries was a poor idea.
Awesome if true! We can replicate our 2018 performances. Wont have to play scumbag england in their cuntry either which is nice.

Headline of story at provided link says “considering” moving to one country.
Story at Croatiansports.com says they’re “looking” to do so.
But headline at Croatiansports.com???? —–> EURO 2021 Moving To One Nation…
C’mon, Ante.
Awesome! We were alright in Russia.
I don’t care where it’s played, as long they play it.
