Croatian wunderkind center-back Joško Gvardiol is the target of a €90M bid from the Blues, and the two clubs are currently in advanced talks, according to Fabrizio Romano. If this number is accurate, including add-ons, Gvardiol will become the most expensive defensive transfer of all time, surpassing Harry Maguire’s €87M transfer to Manchester United.
Gvardiol would finish the remainder of the season in Germany and move up to London for the 2023/24 Premier League season. The 20 year old defender is considered one of the brightest talents in all of football, and arguably the best U21 defensive talent.

Good news that he’s staying. In a year or two, he’ll be able to go wherever he chooses. If he committed to Chelsea, who knows if they’ll have a starting position for him a year from now.
Gvardiol staying, in fact extended his contract with Leipzig by another year. Seems to have a good head on his shoulders, would rather stay where he is comfortable and will def play (and in a top league), rather than take a risk to go to a “sexier” club right now. He’s got time for that.
