The first round of the French Open didn’t go quite as planned for Croatia’s five players in the singles draw, with only one advancing and two losing to lower seeded players.
MEN
Marin Cilić was the lone Croat winner in round one, comfortably defeating #102 Philipp Petzschner 6-1, 6-2, 6-3 in a 90 minute match. Marin took advantage of 12 break points on his cruise to victory. He plays 18 year old Nick Kyrgios of Australia on Wednesday morning in round 2. Kyrgios is ranked 262nd in the world, and the winner will face either #49 Daniel Gimeno-Traver or #57 Viktor Troicki.
Ivan Dodig lost his first round match to #83 Guido in a five set marathon: 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 2-6, 12-10. The match lasted lasted three hours and twenty-four minutes, as Dodig’s aggressive nature produced 72 unforced errors and 70 winners. Dodig and his doubles partner Marcelo Melo begin their doubles campaign tomorrow, where they are the #12 seeds.
WOMEN
Donna Vekić’s clay season was short and not so sweet as it ended Sunday, with her second loss in as many attempts. Donna fell to American Mallory Burdette, 6-3, 6-4. Despite the slanted scoreline, Donna only lost six more points than Burdette. In the future, she will need to put much more time and effort into improving her clay game.

Petra Martić put up a valiant effort, but fell to #14 Ana Ivanovic, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3. After struggling to get anything going in the first set, Petra managed to put together some sold games in the second before a slow start to the third set proved to be too much. Martić has had trouble regaining form after a lengthy injury, and will now drop over 100 spots in the WTA rankings, to #190. Her first round doubles match with Chanelle Scheepers is scheduled for tomorrow.
Mirjana Lucić-Baroni lost 6-1, 6-2 to #29 Varvara Lepchenko in a first round match that lasted under an hour. Lucić was only able to hold serve twice in the match.

Brutal call by the ref’s in the Blackhawks game!
Even a Canucks fan can recognize that…
Nice to see a good B.C. boy get the winner!
Nice tournament setup here in August:

Hey, see the Blackhawks win 3-1 in overtime last night?
How about the no-goal call? The only reason for the ref to blow the whistle is if there was a penalty on Saad. What did he do?
Wow, one minute I’m jumping up and down, hugging guys I don’t know, stole a couple of wallets. wound up with someone else’s glasses on my head, and the next……
I don’t believe that report at all. While I do think Mandza is replaceable in many aspects, but not for Bayern and how they currently play.
Armada87,
Copypast from footballwebsite :
According to the Bild, Bayern will have to give up on their current starting striker (who isn’t far off in his ability from Lewandowski), Mario Mandzukic, scoring 21 goals in all competition for the team this season. He might not be the scorer Lewandowski is, but on a team like Bayern, his abilities to press and create space with his fantastic off the ball movement are just as important, and it’s surprising to think Bayern don’t see him as their starting striker next season
@ CroatHrvat

Strong rumour: Mandzukic will go to Borussia Dortmund to replace Lewandowski.
