Ante Vuković gives Hajduk the lead from the spot
Hajduk shocks Inter 2-0!
Bijeli proudly bow out of Europa League 2-3 on aggregate
Trailing by three goals in their Europa League third qualifying round tie against Inter, Hajduk shocked the soccer world today with a highly improbable 2-0 win over the Serie A giants at Milan’s San Siro stadium.
Despite the loss, Inter advance to the tournament’s next round on the strength of their 3-0 win in Split one week ago.
After last week’s resounding loss, Hajduk entered today’s game with modest expectations yet the complexion of the tie changed dramatically after Ivan Vuković notched Hajduk’s second goal in the 58th minute.
Vuković’s strike drew Hajduk to within one goal on aggregate with more than half an hour left to find the equalizer. Unfortunately, the bijeli could not beat Inter keeper Samir Handanovič a third time, despite the efforts of substitutes Mijo Caktaš and Steven Luštica.
Hajduk grabbed the lead in the 23rd minute after Inter defender Samuel fouled Vuković in the penalty area. Hajduk ace Ante Vukušić stepped up to the penalty spot and calmly delivered a strike inside Handanovič’s left post.
Hajduk celebrated today’s result with 3,000 fans who made the journey from Split and sent everyone home wondering what might have been had they not conceded three relatively easy goals at Poljud one week ago.
Hajduk’s Mario Maloča left the game in the 10th minute after colliding with Diego Milito. He was replaced by 21-year-old Matej Jonjić.
Lineups:
INTER : Handanovič – Jonathan, Ranocchia, Samuel, Mbaye – Zanetti, Cambiasso, Guarin – Sneijder, Milito, Coutinho.
HAJDUK: Blažević – Vršajević, Maloča (Jonjić 10), Milović, Jozinović – Milić, Radošević – Oremuš, Andrijašević – Vuković, Vukušić.
Vukusic is croat from bisko, Vuković is from crna gora.
wow, beauty goal by Vukusic!!!
@Sime…….I’m not negative, I’m just being honest. Some people, apparently you, are unable to distinguish the difference. Being a homer is fine, but it does cloud judgement and objectivitiy.
In fact when reflecting on this, Hajduk’s win two years ago over Anderlecht, when Vukusic scored the winner in the last second, was a bigger win than this one against Inter. Anderlecht was in the group phase of the Europa League and still kept Hajduk with a chance in the competition (even though we all knew they had no realistic chance). This was a nice win against a side that didn’t give a shit because they knew they wrapped up the tie in the first leg.
I encourage all you to enjoy it, but it was not a marquee, landmark win because the win meant nothing, in fact it still meant elimination.
Ziva Istina……..helping the uninformed on this website since 2009.
Anoymous – You r an Idiot
so what? inter still advance and hajduk still fuck off.
Pog dont be negative like Ziva . Stop
“leg” not “league”
The only reason Hajduk scored ANY goals was because this tie was over after the first league.
2-0 in Milan means nothing when there’s nothing to play for.
The only positive that could possibly come from this would be Hajduk being inspired and giving Dinamo a good run at the league this season.
Fat chance though!
Yep….France is the king of this sport. I think if you look back at the last 5 years or so and the major championships (Euro, World and Olympics) France has won all of them with the exception of this year’s Euros (Denmark). Everything elsae has been owned by France with us usually being the team that loses to them.
Nista…head up high, good showing for the boys.
But have to give credit to France, very strong team.
Absolutely horrible Handball game for us.
Hard for us to develop plays and score goals (predictable offense, shooting straight at the keeper!), and easy for us to concede goals (horrible keeper).
The first 3 minutes foreshadowed the result.
Well, I called this one. Really, anyone could. Only difference this time was the French decided to end it around the 42nd minute mark instead of the 50th. Nothing our guys could do, the better team won.
Hopefully we get bronze.
WoW…..upset in water polo. italy beat the serbs.
We already played Italy in water polo and beat them in the group stage.
No link, I am watching on sat tv.
Drago Cosic is crying worse than any homer you can ever imagine. The refs are inconsistent, the Frenach plays are rough, etc……It’s a great laugh.
We are lucky as hell to be down only 2 at the half. We have about 11 more shots than France, but trail.
I’ve seen this some before…..it usually goes like this: we struggle to keep up with France, usually the gap is between 1-3 , and then at around 50th minute is when France goes on a run and wraps it up. Hope that is not the case this time around, but I have a feeling it will be.
whats the hrt link? mine was lagging big time.
For those of you watching the handball game on the Cro tv feed…..this is great comedy.
The HRT announcer is almsot crying. Homerism at its finest. Drago Cosic is begging for calls
Great job by our boys to keep it this close.
balic is still king.
am i the only one or is it weird to see a crni play rukomet?
Slavs? You know what I meant.
@Jelic
Please do not use the word Balkan. Croats are not Balkan.
I agree with Ziva. It’s all about perspective.
Think back to 1970. Would this have been a shock to the world to beat Inter 2-0 BUT exit the second tier European Championships at the playoff round? Would fans have been thrilled?
Keep it up Hajduk, but BUILD on it. Conquer the debt issues, clean up the management and grow the product.
Then there can truly be optimism!
Well, it looks like the France have our number again in handball.
it was a nice run.
Can’t wait for all the handball experts to come out now and claim we played “with no heart”. The same experts who have no clue about handball or could name any of our players or club teams.
@Sime……..it was a win, but a win that means zero. They go out with a nice result. Lets see what they do this Sunday and if they can gain the full three points. This is how bad things are for hajduk and recent history. People are exciting because we dropped out of a competition because we played well and got a result against Inter.
Brother, it is not only those in the diaspora who have romantic visions of the big U!
I have lots of relatives in CRO who have exactly the same attitudes and beliefs, and also know lots that DO care.
Different strokes for different folks I guess……..
jelic. whats so funny? that people in the diaspora think theyre ustasas? when people in cro dont give two shits anymore who is serbian or a bosanac. those war days are over and kids dont care anymore.
Ziva , allways negative . If Hajduk wins they no good , if lose they no good . What you want ?
Ha ha ha dukic you clearly came to the wrong site my friend!
Bivsa Juga u kurac? Hvala Sveti Boze!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don’t lament on here something that was God’s gift to all freedom loving Balkan peoples.
Sorry boys, couldn’t help it, I’d much rather stick to sports but that one I just couldn’t pass up.
@hrvat#1
so what if he is a crnogorac. people like you are the reason why bivsa juga je u kurcu. di si ti bio 91?
@ Tom
They can do it in the HNL too if they did it yesterday the problem is do they have the drive to do it. We shall see…..
@Ziva
that is true. either way id be quite happy if he wasnt a part of dinamo. However i’d say beqiraj plays less of a role for dinamo then vukovic plays for hajduk. All im saying is id be happier if any other hajduk player scored that goal
Beautiful Win . I was crying with joy .
Nije,
Okay…. I agre with you too! I was as excited as everyone else yesterday… not sure if you’re aware, but I wrote the story… I am still blown away by the result… it will just be incredibly disheartening if they start dropping games against shitty HNL teams…
A lot of this is luck of the draw too people. We could have got FK Sarajevo or Zeta from Crna Gora and still been in the competition. I doubt anybody was a favorite against Milan in the first place but we drew them and had them shitting bricks yesterday for a minute.
Actually the win means a lot to the real Hajduk fans. It’s one of the biggest wins a cro club team ever had. Just seeing my dads reaction yesterday watching fox soccer report and my kum’s reaction was something that would put a smile on anybody’s face. It’s not overreacting its joy for something you love. These people truly lived and breathed Hajduk as kids with no TV’s listening to the game over a ghetto rigged radio that still had bad reception! Yes they knew yesterday that Hajduk is out of the competition but it didn’t take the smile off their faces knowing we beat Inter 2-0 in Milan with kids that played their hearts off. All you want at the end pf the day as a real fan is to say they gave it their all and didn’t give up until the whistle blew. They could have easily went to Milan with their heads hanging pulled back and played bunker all game pa sta bude. They did the opposite and we are all proud of them.
I have to agree with Ziva on this…
Yesterday’s result means nothing if they can’t take care of business in league play… they simply can’t afford a letdown….they have to build upon this.
@hrvat#1……….are you just dumb, naive or have no clue to what you are talking about? Serious question…. So, what national team does Beqiraj play for?????? I mean, if you are going to make a claim at least be accurate and don’t just throw shit at the wall. That is all I am asking for.
@Jarac…….Just point out the obvious. Hajduk had a very nice result yesterday and maybe it is a sign of things to come with these young kids, but this is the typical overeaction that many of you complain about that comes from the Cro media. Yeah, great result, but Hajduk is still out of the competition, Dinamo will run away with the league and Hajduk is still broke.
And actually I am the biggest hajduk fan. Didn’t you hear???? I won the contest for biggest hajdukovac beating out Sjor Sime from Solin and Mate from Slunj. I carry the title for one year.
@ziva
Yeah I have seen dinamo’s roster, they have no serbs, or montenegrins. I have nothing against argentina, brazil, or portugal so i have no problems with them being on the squad. Having a Brazilian is a lot different then having a serb or crnogorac
*dosadan* oprosti
ziva ajde zacepi gubicu, dosandan si. if we win, the other team sucked, if we loose we deserved it, but hey guys im the biggest hajduk fan. HAHA what a twat.
Hajduk zivi vjecno
Shocked the hell out of me!
Bravo hajduk, it was a big scalp even though it was the seconds.
Pavic was a wall……
I rather play Italy in the finals because I think the serbs are slightly better than us, but with the way our D has played in tourney we certainly have a chance against the serbs.
Congrats to our mens water polo team!
**samo dalje**
well, good for you sinko…..same dalje.
Its tastes a lot better as of late. Not all Crnogorac are shit heads.
no, have you?
@ Ziva
Have you ever tried Crnogorac Polenta?
http://www.ebritic.com/?p=203211
@ Ziva – Exactly it was about Inter losing that’s why it was so shocking.
@nije bitno……….fox soccer report is seen by less than 100,000 people on a nightly basis. Trust me, it was not about Hajduk winning, it was about Inter losing.
@hrvat#1…….that’s fine. i don’t like having a crnogorac on the side either. But, you said you are a dinamo…have you seen Dinamo’s roster?
sorry vukusic* hard to type on iphones haha
despite being a dinamo fan, i must congratulate hajduk on this win. they took down a great club and im sure many are shocked. however, im not much of a fan of vukuvic! montenegrin…
Take that you communist Dinamo’s.
@ Ziva – i disagree Hajduk was on fox soccer report yesterday because they did shock the world. We actually saw match highlights from a Hajduk game in the states! If Inter would have won they wouldn’t have showed the highlights, they would have just showed the table with the rest of the scores from the other matches.
@Jersey……I am just putting it into context. Nobody is a bigger hajduk fan than me, but the headline is a bit misleading: “Hajduk shock the world”. Nobody in the world is paying attention to Europa League qualifying. If this was the first leg and Hajduk won 2-0, then yes, it would be a huge shock. But, Inter went into this nursing a 3-0 lead and played like it.
Form a Hajduk perspective it is a very fine result. But, it means nothing if they can’t win at home against Zagreb on Sunday.
More than anything else, the kids who played so well for hajduk deserve recognition regardless of the score.
please Ziva, if they lost you would gloat if they win there is an excuse. They won the games, no need to make excuses for the other teams. Croatian sides really can’t win with some of you
Slaven’s result was more impressive to me, as they actually pressed Athletic for a whole 90 minutes. Sure, Bilbao looked better when they put on Llorente and Munaian but they gave Athletic a legit scare. I’d say Inter were in cruise control, but they outplayed Hajduk once it got to 2:0
Great wins by Hajduk and Slaven today. But, both are a bit misleading. Neither opponent is in form because they have yet to start league play and probably took each opponent lightly today based on the first leg results. It doesn’t take anything away from Hajduk or Slaven, but you have to put it into context.
Still, it’s encouraging. Hajduk needs to let its kids play the entire year. I was impressed with the 18-yr old Milic last night.
We will see what happens with Hajduk on Sunday in the league. Usually they shit themselves following up european play.
hey ante. jebem ti ja lipo mate.
hey djukic. yebi se
I told all U haters that our beloved Bili would come out today & kick some Italian Ass ! What a great goal by Vukovič & penalty kick by the future star of all Croatia ,Vukusič ! What a great day for all the true Fans of the Best team in HNL, HAJDUK !!! Torcida 4 Life ! Bog,Hrvati, i Hajduk !!!
Vukovic goal

too bad Hajduk played like pussies in Split
Slaven’s win was better in my opinion, Bilbao at this moment is better than Inter
HIGHLIGHTS!
Bravo Hajduk, sure surprised me!
Pretty much an u-23 side took down Inter. One of the greatest victories for a Croatian club for quite some time.
WOW. I didn’t see that one coming.
dinamo fans jealous. remember that number 7 at maksimir? pussies
Da zivota imam dva, ja bi tebi oba da
HAJDUK UVIK ZIVI VJECNO
“Shock the world”
HAHHahhahahahah!
They are eliminated but they didn’t go with their paints down. They surprised me a lot. Okay, Inter was stronger and they had some chances, but that’s normal. I’m sure Italian clubs will keep an eye on players like Vukusic, Oremus, Jozinovic(he reminds me a lot of Strinic). But the others like Radosevic, Jonjic, Vukovic etc. didn’t fail either. It’s great to see young Crotian players make their way in the international football.
Some other Croatian news : Manuel Pamic played 90 minutes for Prague, they go to next round.
Vrjlodlak was in the starting eleven for Legia Warshau against Austrian side Reid, Legia goes to next round. But he ended up with a red card in the 71th minute.
Gordon Schildenfield only played came into the after 63 minutes for Dinamo Moskow against. They also go to the next round.
Funiest thing of this round : Slovenian side Mura lost againt Arsenal 0-3 against Arsenal Kiev. But because a suspended player(Matoukou) played along for Kiev, the result was 0-3 for Mura. So today Arsenal Kiev had to win with 3 goals at Mura. They only won 0-2 and ended the game with 9 players. Croatian player Mate Eterovic played 90 minutes for Mura.
Then there is some other good (goalkeeper)news : Croatian Ivan Turian goes with AIK to the next round. He played the whole match and they didn’t beat him.
Samo tebe volim ja i vise nikoga to ti kaze tvoja Torcida
what the hell?
S ISTOKA ZAPADA I SJEVERA. ORI SE PISMA NAJSVETIJA. DIGLA SE NASA BILA ZASTAVA. KOJA SE NIKAD NIJE PRIDALA!
Man Inter has really fallen after being the best team in the Universe a few years back. Anyhow great win by Hajduk. They needed it.
