A devastating loss for Dinamo came after after 90 minutes of hard a fought match against Greek champions, Olympiakos.
The Modri saw the bulk of possession in the first half and ended the first 45 minutes on par with their opponents on the scoreboard, but a seemingly impossible goal in the 79th minute by Brown Ideye countered their efforts for even a draw at the end.
Ideye was able to squeeze the ball between Eduardo and the near post for the match’s only goal.
Any goalie would know that letting a goal in the near post like that is equal to a cardinal sin, but a little luck may have been on Ideye’s side as it appeared Eduardo had the near post covered well enough.
Desperation set in for Dinamo, who had scoring chances of their own throughout the match – including two shots that bounced off the post. The final 10 minutes consisted of forced passing, simulated diving, and appeals for penalties, but the Greeks took all three points in their second consecutive road victory.
Dinamo pleaded for a last-second appeal for a handball in the box, but the referee had blown the whistle, and would listen to no complaints.
It will take some hard work for Dinamo to continue their European campaign after the new year. Prior to the match, all looked well: Dinamo had one win and one loss after playing the two toughest opponents in teh group, Bayern Munich and Arsenal. Arsenal had gone without any points in their first town matches, and it seemed if Dinamo could pull off at least a draw, their journey out of the group stage would be an eaiser one.
But the stars aligned for Arsenal today. Dinamo went without any points while they got a most valuable 1-0 victory against Bayern Munich today.
Dinamo’s hope relies on a home match versus Munich and away matches against Arsenal and Olympiakos.
The hope is there, but the road will be difficult. In the mean time, Dinamo currently sit at the bottom of group F, tied with Arsenal on points, but last with a -5 goal differential.
@anonymous
my advice just avoid the troll, i see his name and don’t read shit about what he posts, you all should do the same
says the canadian ziva, pretending to be american
I’ve said that from day one………just skip my posts. Not that hard. But, I disagree about being a troll. I actually do believe in the items I comment about, for the most part. A little over the top on some of them, but still stand behind the overall context behind it.
Good point about the conservative crazies………pay attention when the Republicans have their national convention and the amount of prostitution arrests that take place during the convention. Most are fake conservatives. But, without the Republicans we would have profitable defense contractors and their stock wouldn’t be healthy.
He actually reminds me of the conservative crazies who rail against gays and then a week later, one of them is caught in a bathroom with another guy. Nobody but him brings up anything about Lovren’s private life. It’s an obsession.
Face it – he’s a troll. Posts inflammatory comments to get a rise out of people. And it works. Like some others say, just ignore him. And pray for him. Too bad this website doesn’t allow you to block certain username posts like some others do. It would make these threads more tolerable.
Come on if anyone jerks off it is Ziva. No wife. No nothing except his obsession with corluka and Lovren.
People we have to pray for him. All he has is this website.
ziva going to ziva
lika joey you are step daddy??? we haven’t seen him in a long time lol
Don’t know how anyone can really be considered tourney favorites in u 17 category………remember, they had nothing to play for, they won the group. Not saying we would have lost to them if they had something to play for, but much different attitude going into a game when you have nothing to play for or lose. Nigeria still won the group if they lost 20-0 or won 1-0.
That doesn’t take anything away from our guys, but you have to loom at the circumstances.
@lika…..cool with me, but your end of the bet has to step up.
60/40 possession in favor of Croatia
Croatia outshoots Nigeria 23:8
Croatia with 13 corners versus Nigeria’s 5
Nigeria with 4 offsides to Croaita’s 1
Nigeria played with their full squad and got smoked today. They had no answer to Croatia’s physicality and technical ability, and resorted to long balls. Nigeria got lucky on a counter and beat the offside trap for their single goal. Also got lucky for not being called for a penalty on another play.
Lots of talk, and they did not back it up at all. These guys are the tournament favorites too.
great job u17s happies ! also didn’t raketa just score outside the box like 2 days ago in tjat barca champs league win 2 nil where he got both goals
Come on ziva show some balls!
I have a wager..,if a player from the repka scores from outside the box you never post on this site again…if a player doesn’t…Lika Joey your daddy will never post again…we on?
could be………
since the weekend is here……..how about another wager. same thing as before…..if a player from the repka scores a goal from outside the box, I’ll get you an authentic jock sniffing jersey of your choice (unless you want to go non-fanboy route and want a jersey with no name on the back). If not, we can figure out what the losers pays up…….any takers????
Ziva do you jerk off to Lovren in his uniform pics or the naked ones of him in the world cup…you are obsessed with male fags…even the mamic comments all about men….gays…pics…jerking off etc…are you Transgender or born a male?
Ziva your looking forward to them falling apart…I don’t see it happening…your anti hrvat…your father failed you…partisan or communist?
They rested players? Who did they rest?
Nothing but bullshit coming from your mouth. Nigeria played at FULL STRENGTH, and tried desperately to win this game, had luck on their side, and were still outplayed and lost.
If you didn’t watch the game, don’t comment on it to fit your bullshit narrative.
Lika Joey gives you an idea what you can do with your winnings, and you come up with that disgusting comment, really uncalled for.
By the way, who told you to write that comment?
Of course it was a big win. Never said it wasn’t. All I said leading into the game is that the Nigerians were not in all out win mode. How could they be. They won the group after two games and rested players. Main thing for them was to avoid injury.
Looking forward to see how these guys do in the knockout stage.
Remember, meaningless game for Nigeria. They clinched the group. Total different mind frame than our guys.
How would I post my bet ticket. You cant embed anything here. Just scroll up before the game. I said what I was going to do.
For the Mamic apologists…….do you guys jerk off to him with a picture of him in your repka jersey or can you do it without his image. Hopefully when done, you don’t wipe yourself off with the back of the jersey with the name on it. Would hate to have you guys ruin the shirt that way.
Ziva post your bet tickets…your full of shit…if you won you can use the cash to loose your virginity…I’m sure your not the only 40 year old virgin…you can hire a male escort who looks like Lovren…I think you infatuated with him.
Mamic is brilliant. If not for him Dinamo would be like Hajduk.
Academy continues to impress.
Hammer lol..
You guys gotta remember that puppet Ziva only comments because he’s told, someone else is pulling his strings.
Mamic has to get some respect for the academy! These kids are awesome…
Ziva you Fucking idiot! Nigeria wanted nothing more than to win this game they were pissed about us taking them out in Korea in September…your just a negative looser…Aleksander Holiday aka ziva istina…Fuck You !
@maminjo
That is his style. Who cares what he has to say?
Great game. Of course another great Dinamo prospect. Brekalo is the real deal. Hvala Mamic.
Fucking liar.
Nigeria was not on vacation. They were talking smack all week, looking forward to beating Croatia as payback for Cro knocking them out in Korea. They were even saying how the lack of pressure would benefit them even more.
Nigeria had luck on their side today with that 1-0 halftime lead, and STILL lost. Big win for these young and talented Croats, no matter how much you try to take that away.
Samo naprid.
Question about the younger Lovren………he doesn’t take after his brother when it comes to his lifestyle, does he????
Yep, most of these kids won that tourney.
Hey, if you like Mamic good for you. It just means you support a clown who uses threats and intimidation with players and parents so they sign deals that benefit Mamic and steal from Dinamo, a club that some of you claim to love. Anyone want to defend Mamic for taking money from Dinamo in the Modric transfer. Remember, that money should have all gone to the club, but it didn’t. But, if you are ok with that, cool with me.
Making the knockout stage is good. But, remember they just beat a team that rested players and was playing in a meaningless game. They had already clinched the group. Nigeria was on vacation today. Credit to our guys for taking advantage of that. Let’s see what they can do now.
Also, on a selfish not…..I took Cro (+190) and USA-Chile game over 2.5 goals in a parlay….very nice payoff. Time to roll it over tomorrow.
Absolutely! ‘
@lika joey
The Dinamo Academy is top notch. Much credit to Mamic.
I’m pretty sure these kids won the Nike cup…dinamo zagreb won it! 2012 or 13.
I’m starting to Like Mamic!!!!! Fucking academy is incredible…if ziva doesn’t like mamic…I like him!
also, on a side note…i would guess the fact that 9 of the 11 players are dinamo players who have played together forever probably helps
perhaps on display the advantage of all kids growing up in a system like they do in netherlands, germany etc
This team beats the world champions Nigeria in a must win game 3, going down 1-0 at the half when they dominated and were denied a penalty.
Then has a chance to beat Mexico in knock out rounds.
@ jm
I think these kids just happen to be the real deal.
They are like 6 studs on the pitch at once.
Credit to the young coach who seems to have the right horses in the courses.
Knock out round!!!
JM these kids are sick!!!! Tied Spain and beat italy to get in…beat mexico a couple of weeks ago…beat nigeria in September 2:1 in Korea.
– I might’ve enjoyed watching these 17 yr olds play the past two games more than i’ve ever enjoyed watching the senior team
– in two games, they outshot their shot their opponents 52-14!
– same question as the other day…maybe someone can help out….why does this team seem to have so many take ons and runs down the flanks…are the players actually good at this or is this simply what is possible in 17 yr old soccer? ( similar to how the option works in college football but doesn’t in the nil)
– the guy brekalo looks like a stud the past two games. moro showed some toughness. didn’t feel lovren showed much
allen we beat Mexico 4:3 one week before the u17 started…in Chile!
Check Wikipedia.

Sorry didn’t see your comment Maminjo.
Do you know when that will be? So hard to find any information of this tournament.
Commentator just said that Croatia would play Mexico or Germany. Ohhhh Mexico…
@Allen
Croatia will play Germany or Mexico next.
It will likely be a Mexico vs Croatia rematch. 🙂
Davor Lovren has been a big prospect for some time now.
Glad to hear that he’s a midfielder 😉
KALLINCA WHAT A BLOCK! Wow I’m getting emotional.
If Croatia holds on, who do they play next or possibly play next? Moro has been a workhorse. Could be man of the match, along with Sosa.
My god, Babic is awful. One of the worst misses I’ve seen in a while and that says something, considering Mario Manduzkic’s awfulness.
@Allen
I’m just poking fun at the fact that most Africans tend to ‘fudge’ their documentation to show they are younger than they really are.
African teams always seem to kill it in junior tournaments, but they suddenly plateau and never get better as they age into their ‘early 20s’. Probably because (in reality) they are already in their late 20s at that point.
Happens in the NBA a lot too. Lost of people claim Mutombo was several years older than he is. Even that top-10 draft pick, Bismack Biyombo, was actually several years older and never got better after his rookie year. He would never have gone top-10 if people didn’t assume he was 20 years old (when he was closer to 24).
Senegal and Mali were semifinalists in this past U20 World Cup. Let’s see if these two teams actually produce teams that can even qualify for the actual World Cup in the future. If they do, then I will apologize to the entire African continent, lol.
Allen I read a lot of good things about Lovren and Moro.
He hasn’t got the ball much, but Lovren is very tricky on the ball. Plays with a lot of confidence as well. Hope he develops into a capable player.
Maminjo daj Boze!!!!
Maminjo
Are you implying that the Nigerians are cheating by playing 20 year old players in a U17 tournament?
There was sooo much talk from these 20 year-old Nigerians about how they will relish beating us (after we beat them last time).
Talking about how it’s no pressure for them, and how they should beat us.
It will be very sweet if this score stands.
Get Majic ready for the Euro Cup. What a finish to take the lead. Haven’t seen a Croatian striker score a goal like that since prime Eduardo.
2:1 Hrvatskaaa!!!!!!!!
IDEMO!!!
Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1:1 !!!!!!!!!!!!! Goooaaaallllll!
I don’t believe any parent failed the Cro/Mex kid, both parents are Catholic, speaking the language is not important. The last time my family went to Croatia we found that there was filthy, disgusting Croatian Jehovah’s witnesses in the country who spoke the language. I’d rather the Cro/Mex Catholic kid who speaks little Croatian than the Croatian speaking, filthy, disgusting, ancestor condemning protestant Croat. But you’re an American or Canadian so I believe you’ve probably got more modern views now.
Nigeria just scored…fuck!!
If Cro loses, will you dare to call these teenagers “mental midgets”?
By the way, Cro is +190 in the u-17 game…….not bad.
Well, in that example that you described it sure appears one of the parents failed the kid.
I’ve also learned that where there is a will, there is way. If people can put themselves through school by having no money and taking out loans and working multiple jobs to get a college or graduate degree, then if someone wants to learn the language – even a little – they can do so.
No excuses. If someone really wants to do something, they will.
But what about that Mexican guy that Lika knows, his dad & mum have to communicate. The Mexican guy could know a lot about the history and culture but doesn’t know the language because his parents never spoke Croatian in the house, but whatever Croatian he does speak he’s learned, I don’t think you would even make that effort if you were in his position.
Funny how you left out that you have to know how to write the language.
my opinion……i dont see how someone can call himself a hrvat simply because he had long lost relatives from Cro or follows Cro sports. To me you have to at least be able to speak and read the language and know something about the history and culture of the people. I dont think that is too much to ask. Maybe you guys agree because you fall in category. I don’t know.
I just think any first generation person who doesn’t has family who failed him.
That is not meant to be an insult, rather some reality.
Ziva saying he’s a unifier not a divider has me thinking this guy is delusional. He said that if you don’t speak the jezik you’re not Croatian, I would’ve thought that’s divisive.
ZG/TO says, “I’m proud of any foreign born Croat who makes any effort to reconnect with the homeland through language.” That’s a unifying comment!!
Vatreni checkers,Rebic is an animal lol.
@ ZG/TO
Seems natural to be proud of any disapora Hrvati who feels a connection to Hrvatska.
I also feel the language is in us and simply needs to be activated. You step foot on ljepa nasa zemlja and you start speaking in no time.
@ Svima
I am all in for our u17 boys tonight !
U boj
Indeed……Not only that, I’ve also financially backed HDZ back in the way.
@ZG/TO
Yes but he is a failure for not having a Croatian wife, children and losing money in croatia on a failed business venture.
Čekić- you asked Živa to respond in Croatian. Not likely to happen. For all his bluster about kids being failed by their parents for not speaking the language, I’ve seen enough of his posts over the years to know he screws up his cases (padeži). Kind of ironic that someone as opinionated as him has language shortcomings as well. That’s why you’ll only see the odd sprinkling of Croat words in his posts. For the record- I don’t judge his “failure”. I’m proud of any foreign born Croat who makes any effort to reconnect with the homeland through language.
@Lika
I wouldn’t call it a punch. The guy ran full steam into Corluka, and he just raised his hand to him. Yellow card yes, red card no fucking way.
The guy that is really off his rocker is Rebic. What a nightmare tackle yesterday.
People leave the ziva scum alone.
He only does it to upset you all.
As someone posted above, failed business in Croatia, no girl or children, feel sorry for him and pray for him. He really needs the ZDS lifestyle.
Allen outraged…I saw bits of that game…vida looked solid…did you see Corluka punch at the player from i think the albanian team in europa league?
Fifteen-year-old Croatian wonderkid Toni Trograncic has taken part in a first-team training session with Bayern Munich. The club has been monitoring the young Croatian for quite some time and are eager to sign the midfielder after losing out to Real Madrid in the race to acquire teenage sensation, Martin Odegaard. Trograncic was born in a town 35 miles southeast of Munich, called Bad Aibling, but is of Croatian decent. He came to the attention of Bayern officials after being named the best player at an under-11 tournament while playing at the Red Bull Salzburg academy. The teenager has previously made several appearances for the Croatia under-14s, but Trograncic has showed such massive potential that the German national team have being attempting to persuade him to join the country’s development programs. Bayern Munich assistant Hermann Gerland initially spotted the midfielder and extended an invitation to the player to workout with the club’s under-15 squad late last week. After impressing the entire coaching staff, Guardiola asked the teenager to train with the members of Bayern Munich’s first-team who were not on international duty. On Saturday, Trograncic was able to train alongside the likes of Philipp Lahm, Rafinha and Dante. The session was attended by roughly 200 people, including the midfielder’s father who took joy in seeing his son taking penalties against Pepe Reina near the end of the proceedings. sadly i will be on a plane to NZ so can’t watch the u17s but wish them well !
Selena Gomez????? What are you 18.
Selena Gomez is a American Mexican Roman Catholic. How many of you American Croatians would marry a Mexican Catholic female?
Me, Yugoslav scum?????????????? Stvarno!!!!!!! pa, come on.
How can a heart and blood be checkered but you cant speak the language. If the heart was into it, the language would be learned, no?????
Anyway, this is not a topic I wish to engage in this weekend. I’m with you, I’ll be watching the U-17s from the fortified basement. Have to a look at what the moneyline is on the game and see if it worth throwing down some cash.
Looking at the group standings Nigeria got first place, so I would assume they will rest people. To them, this is a meaningless game which could be the opportunity we need to advance. Even a tie might get us a third-place spot.
Today all of us should support the u17 team….BIG GAME!!!! I’M PUMPED!
No ziva! Your just a fucking goof!!! I bullied kids like you when I was younger…I don’t believe in picking on the weak…but I do think all yugoslavian scum like you should be picked on…if you were caught in a corner with serbs…you would have your star cap on…I have a buddy who is half Mexican half Croatian…Cro father…spoke very little Croatian…but his heart and blood were checkered to the end! Hrvat!!
There is no reason for a first generation hrvat born in the diaspora to not know the language. None. I can understand if you were abandoned as a kid and grew up as an orphan, but those who grew up with a parent born in Cro have no reason not to speak fluently.
Again, don’t rip me for stating the obvious…..Rip your friends who don’t and their parents for failing them. And, this is no “big hrvat” argument. I stay away from that sranje. I just think all first generation hrvati should and need to speak the language. I’m a unifier, not a divider.
Well for those of you who do speak the language……CONGRATS!!!!!! I’m not ripping you guys, only those who can’t speak it.
Man, some of you dudes are ultra sensitive. I hot a bit close to home, didn’t I?
@ Lika
Funny … my Croatian serviceable in Croatia and all my cousins/friends speak better than me.
I wonder who the heck Ziva is referring to?
Home boy has VHS-
Veliki Hrvat Syndrome
I recommend getting laid by any woman from anywhere on the planet to heal this unfortunate condition.
NIGERIA !!!
Me neither!
A few years back I was on a soccer tour with my kids team and got a puzzled look from a guy I met in Zagreb asking me what region of Croatia I was from given my unorthodox dialect….I asked him to guess a few times, and when I told him I was from the Canadian diaspora in southern Ontario, born and bred he was stunned….same for all my buddies and their kids.
Ziva I don’t know one Canadian hrvat who can’t speak the language!
seems Ziva underestimates how much of the diaspora speaks Croatian from Canada, USA and Australia
We have a 40 year old single man in ziva who spends his time scolding kids about the ZDS?? very odd, disturbing and ironic to the say the least
haha Bobby V – okies u got it !
BTW i just sold my copy of FIFA 16 and am going to get Pro Evo – Konami have the rights to Euro 2016, so the next time you see a fully licensed Hrvatska in a game, i twill actually be the Euro 2016 game which will be konami – so it won’t be FIFA
nobody knows yet if it will be a standalone game or DLC for pro evo 2016 – have to wait and see – but im happies i finally can play as Hrvatska again ! 🙂
Would be interesting if he played for Croatia having an American accent on the squad in the locker room.
Ziva you should write your comments in Croatian, the people who don’t read Croatian wouldn’t have to read your comments anymore and you get to show what a big Croat you are, this is win win for everyone!!!
Ziva you’re a Canadian of Croatian heritage who possibly speaks the language. With the translators on the internet today who really knows who speaks the language. I don’t believe you speak Croatian.
This kid doesn’t even speak Croatian…..enough said. If you can’t speak the jezik, you are not Croatian. Sorry if that offends those of you here who are in the same boat. It makes your an American or a Canadian of Croatian heritage……not much else.
Anyone see Kiev-Chelsea highlights this week? I’m watching highlights right now and Vida is making runs at left back. He looks comfortable and threatening Zouma at times.
If only Lovren was half decent, so Vida could possibly play left back…
Rossi’s father is off the boat from Italy and he trained in Italy during the summer.
I don’t think he ever really wanted to play for the US.
@ jm
-has Croatian Passporte
-Rakitic played entire youth career for Swiss
-He makes it at Dortmund and he can write his ticket anyway for any country.
The better player he becomes the more the debate relevancy.
@ Zagor
Lmao.
@ Faux
Giuseppe Rossi before knee injuries was a revelation for the azzurri .
If he plays for the USMNT then they could have made some real noise.
No one would have believed a kid from jersey could play as an attacking player for gli azzurri.
Shame he had untimely injuries.
yea lets put this debate to an end….pulisic is not picking croatia
– no real link to croatia
-played for US whole life
– better financial opportunity playing for US
– family already rejected croatia’s overtures
@ Faux
Yes at present we are churning out world class attacking midfield talent.
Pulisic may have a shot because he is at Dortmund which rivals Dinamo in producing world class players.
He seemed to be on the level of all of our Domaci players and he just turned 17 in September.
He will get a fair shake with the USMNT, the HNS is having an identity crisis and is still running the Balkan special.
I still find it extraordinary that a kid raised in USA is that good.
Without him we beat the US team 4-0.
He was the only player that could match the technical ability of our boys.
Will find out in the next two years if the kid can get to the next level. Haven’t seen many US born players reach a European level of being an attacking midfielder. Bradley came close but failed.
Cladio Reyna was good.
Donavan could have but chose MLS.
Dempsey had a nice run at Fulham.
@soul champ
who cares what ziva has to say about pulisic and the zds lifestyle
remember he is a man who has no girl, no children, lost money in croatia, that my friends is not the zds lifestyle
hell I think pulisic is more croatian than ziva
@Soul Champ:
I can’t see Pulisic choosing Hrvatska.
It is more lucrative to be a USMNT player and quite frankly he is not good enough to compete with his Croatian born midfield brethren.
The goalie was also named Pulisic.
Pulisic has Croatian Passporte and he lives and trains with Borussia Dortmund.
He is aware of his Croatian roots as they run deep within him, as him and for him.
@ Ziva
Ironic for your Landon Donavon sniffing self to see a US-Hrvat go beyond your American idol and carve out a career for himself Europe. Must be tough for you integrate yet another erroneous belief about the potential of the inner sportaš that Croatians possess. You did say once that a US-Hrvat would NEVER be good enough to play for the Vatreni. No need to back pedal as your Luka “BUST” Modric cover up is quite embarrassing.
Who knows if Pulisic can become good enough to feature for the Vatemi but he assisted on the first goal against our u17 team and scored the second.
His potential will be maximized at Dortmund and we will see how good he can become.
Jozy Altidore makes $4.75M/year
WTF
Nowhere near as good as Jelavic who isn’t exactly setting the world on fire.
Nice vid Iggy. Still can’t believe that Osama Bin Bergen scored twice for Norway.
…and when Croatia makes it back into FIFA 17, I’ve got first game against you. Only a moron like Suker would turn down a free $100,000.00
Dailymotion’s motto: porn is okay, beheading vids are okay, but soccer highlights??? FUCK OFF THATS TOO FAR
u would not believe how fucking hard it is to upload some soccer highlights to the web !
unfuckingbelievable
dailymotion also removed my hrvatska vid !
keep in mind i have an identical one for fifa world cup 2014 and it has 100,000 views on youtube and is fine (top result when you google Croatia road to brazil 2014).
dafuq? is uefa wayy harsher on copyright than fifa?
anyways i tried Veoh : see how that goes !
Great vid hey !
http://www.veoh.com/watch/v960817158Cr6Bxgx
Thanks !
It would be nice if we could tell this kid he can only get a Cro passport if he commits to playing for Cro, and then hold him to it. As it is, he’s just using Croatia for a passport to further his career as Borussia Dortmund.
they also have had a massive amount of financial support to get the league going, the TV and media rights must pay BIG bucks…companies like Bimbo and Tecate are massive…
no argument here…..my main point in al of this is that if everything else is equal, a soccer player from the US can make much more in off the field income than a player from Cro.
he’ll make up whatever he would have made in the MSL endorsements if he’s the real deal.
I know I’d rather play against Bayern, Roma, Arsenal and Dinamo (hahaha…) over the likes of Vancouver and Seattle any day of the week…most guys have no clue who Bradley and 95% of the MSL players are.
Agreed….I think the kid wants to play in Europe. Imagine the endorsement potential of the first American who can excel in Europe as a field player.
Yeah, the US is the king of advertising and endorsements!
whatever the case, if the kid decided to play in Europe I would think he cares more about his overall development and wants to play at the highest level he can, if he decided to play in the US, I wouldn’t blame him for securing his future through money!
@slavonac……..I was stunned as well…….but that shows you how much some of the MLS owners are willing to spend now to keep them from going or staying in Europe.
Again (not you), the jocksniffers and homers out there might be confusing what I posted as saying the likes of a Dempsey or Bradley are as good as Modric. THEY ARE NOT. I am just stating how being an American athlete in a popular and growing sport in the US can make much more money than his European counterpart from a small, poor nation.
A Donovan, a Dempsey, a Bradley or a US female soccer player can do a commercial or a series of commercials leading up to and during a World Cup and pocket a million dollars. A Cro athlete does the same in Cro and they pocket between $10,000 – $50,000.
“Dempsey and Bradley are at the equivalent of what Modric is earning at Real right now (around $7 million or so).”
WOW…thats impressive for some pretty average players …at least when you are comparing them to Modric!
@slavonac……I agree with you, but being an American will result in more earing power for him. The hype on this kid will pick up. How good will he be????? No clue. I’m just saying that if he becomes a top 3 American player, representing the US will earn him much more money through endorsements and in the MLS than he would make as a “hrvat” playing in Europe. But, your point about having more opportunities in landing at a bigger club is valid. Although, I can counter than by saying he is in the Borussia system now and they have a very good track record with young players.
Dempsey and Bradley are at the equivalent of what Modric is earning at Real right now (around $7 million or so). Tie in their endorsement deals and they are making much more than Modric.
If this kid is good enough to play at a Real or Barca, it wont matter where he is from or who he represents, but the marketing side is a landslide.
In sports, a lot of it has to do where you are from. Do you know who the top earners are in tennis on and off the court?
Federer, Nadal and Djokovic are top three……..#4 might surprise you……Nishikori from Japan. Dude made over $20 million last year in endorsements.
Vatreni,
The solution presented by many here is just to roll with it and accept the status quo.
Donovan, Dempsey, Howard…are probably 3 of the most successful players in the US while I’m not sure this kid will ever get to their success and popularity levels.
my comment …”there’s no better endorsement than representing Croatia over representing the US” is where I’d draw some focus. playing for Croatia will get you a far better opportunity at a decent career than playing for the US, you have to agree on this…don’t you?
if you are representing Croatia you will most likely have a far more fruitful career than if you are representing the US…we can compare if you’d like but I think we all know that I’m right on this one.
Now, if this kid is as Donovan, Dempsey, Howard…which is really kinds funny since 2 of the 3 have had less than glorious careers in the Europe…but lets say he is as popular as the 3, he may make more money but what if he isn’t as popular?
I still think he’d make better wages as a Croatian representative over playing for the US. not many Americans are on par with Croats.
@ARMADA87……….Actually, today should be a perfect reminder to all the males who post on this site on how important it is to make a solid choice in women. You don’t want to have a bad taste in women when dating or even marrying them. It could lead to domestic violence and even divorce. Because look what took place with Petrovic. His poor taste in women led to his untimely death. Today should be a day we remember him, but also as a reminder to make good choices in life.
Remember, this kid didn’t grow up living the “za dom….spremni” lifestyle or wanting to play for Cro. So, he has no emotional attachment to Cro.
In terms of endorsement opportunities……that is a no brainer. An average American player will always make much more than a top level Croatian player.
I’ve used Landon Donovan as a comparison before in how a player stepped up his game playing for his country while others don’t play as well for country compared to club. Donovan did more for the US than someone like Rakitic has done so far for Cro………I think we are in agreement on that, right????? Now before the homers and jocksniffers go off on the deep end, I am not saying Donovan is a better player. HE IS NOT. But, he played better for his national team and scored huge goals, which is more than I can say for Rakitic right now. I don’t think that is even debateable. Rakitic is the better player. Modric is the better player. Perisic is the better player….But, guess who makes more in endorsement money? In fact, there are a handful of American players who make much, much more endorsement than any Croatian player today. Donovan still makes more in endorsement than probably all the Croatian players combined.
Donovan, Dempsey, Howard all made big endorsement money compared to their Croatian counterparts. The best a Croatian player can hope for is maybe 250,000 kuna for a commercial during a Euro or World Cup and that figure is being very generous. Usually much closer to 100,000 kuna.
That is all I am saying……if it comes to down to income you can earn off the field, Pulisic will make much more as a US player than as a Croatian player.
Personally, I don’t think there is a decision to be made by this kid. I believe he is very solid to the US right now. Plus, here is the argument the US will make to him: you can earn more in endorsements. I just listed several examples.
Croatia will counter and say you have a better chance to win. But is that really true???? In this kid’s lifetime, he has been around and able to view 4 World Cups (02, 06, 10 and 14). Cro has been in 3 of the 4 and won a total of 2 games and never advanced into the knockout stage. The US has been to all 4 WCs and advanced to the knockout stages in 3 of the 4 WCs.
is it considered a privilege to play for the US? is soccer in the US a recognized “real” sport? is there a better possibility for the kid to play on a better club team if he plays for Croatia vs the US?
endorsement? is he expected to be world class? what type of endorsement deals are you talking about? there’s no better endorsement than representing Croatia over representing the US!
Pulisic cant pinpoint Croatia on a map and doesn’t know the language………end of discussion right there.
If it were about playing with the best he would pick Cro……If it is about the money, he should pick the US. Much more potential with endorsement dollars being an American than there is being a hrvat.
What’s funny is all you Mamic supporters are tying his hate to some kind of communist/Yugo group. If that’s the case, then the majority of Croatia as well as prva generacija are all Jugo Commies.
Darijo Deer is corrupt I have a Halilovic Sporting Gijon jersey and a Tin Jedvaj jersey is it wrong according to some it is lol.
Christian Pulisic is one of the United States’ brightest young prospects, but they face competition for him. The 16-year-old is from Hershey, Pennsylvania, but he has a Croatian grandparent, and Croatia are trying to get him to play fro them.
Right now, it looks like he has no interest.
“He can play for Croatia, the question is will he. Croatian FA technical director Romeo Jozak has spoken to him and his family, for now the answer is negative, but we are not giving up,” said Croatia U-17 coach Luka Pavlović in Croatia Week.
Pulisic was at the U.S. U-17 Residency Program in Brandenton, Florida and was a star on that U-17 team. He followed that up by signing with Borussia Dortmund and will join them as soon as he gets his Croatian passport.
It’s good news that he appears committed to the U.S., and there’s no reason not to, so we will get to see how he develops and whether he can make his way to the senior team one day. In the meantime, we might as well get used to other countries trying to poach our players. Most everyone in this country has ties to another country, and if the U.S. is producing good players, those other countries will undoubtedly come calling.
Oh, and about Pulisic, he’s pretty damn good.

Our most beloved son would of been 51 today.
For one day at least, let’s try (and I get it – it might be hard) to keep the mixed blood and taste in women conversations to a minimum.
Never forget. RIP.
Huh??????
Nope, Ziva doesn’t know all. I only share with you what I do know. Now go back to wearing your jersey with another man’s name on it.
@cekic
good post, don’t you just love the dual process here
in ziva’s mind he knows all, yeah sure? jock sniffer he is, thank you for educating him
Ignore my last post. I didn’t read all the comments because i was to tired. Shame on me.
I’m shocked that no one on this site has followed or mentioned are Under-17 team that’s fighting in Chile. If you guys want to see the true state of Croatian Football then I suggest you tune in on Friday. We play Nigeria the defending champions in are final group game.
What Ive seen so far from are kids, is more enjoyable then anything that the national team has produced in last couple of years. So show your support if you can and maybe someone on this site might write a post because these kids deserve some service.
I don’t know who’s broadcasting in the USA if at all but here In the Toronto area TSN has been showing all the under-17 games. You’ll have to record it on your DVR or PVR since many of the games are shown at odd hours.
Trust me the skill and talent is worth it.
My mistake. I thought if it was known they stole money they would’ve been charged. You’re right though, you don’t have to buy your way out of anything if you were never charged. Srna I guess will be guilty until he proves himself innocent.
They didn’t buy their way out of anything. They were never charged with anything where they had to but their way out.
Bt, make no mistake, they stole from jadan, mali I nemocan hadjuk……this is known.
So Srna and Stimac stole money from Hajduk and then used some of that money to buy their way out, that’s very clever of them! How much money did they steal? How much went to buying their way out? Who does the money that they used to buy their way out go to? I want answers!
As if the process is to be trusted in Cro. Doesn’t matter what side of the political aisle you are in Cro, you can buy your way out. Fortunately, you can’t get away with stuff like that in the US of A, where our heros on Wall Street are not able to get away with any funny business
I’m not throwing out any stuff. Srna stole money that should have gone to hadjuk. He along with Strucnjak Stimac and his brother.
Anyone catch U17 US-Croatia.
2-2 draw.
Croatia light years ahead on a technical level. Unlucky not to win by a large margin.
America’s RB made Brekalo look like Christiano Ronaldo.
@Slavonac
Exactly. People love to throw out stuff on this site.
Ziva,
There is a process and if the process is not corrupt and they all do their diligence….we’ll all find out what he’s done and if he belongs in jail!
Not only should he step down, he should go to jail for money laundering over a decade ago.
Dario srna once again at fault for goal against malmo. He needs to be dropped.
Our defence isn’t good enough to compensate for him. Great career but he needs to step down as captain to the bench.
Okies i finally got to upload my vid for our path to Euro 2016
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3aefrt_croatia-road-to-euro-2016-france-all-games-and-goals_sport
complete with that deseti travanj song by rhesus factor in there towards the end
@ Poglavnik – I thought the same thing. I took that as an insult. “Even countries such as Belarus, Israel AND Croatia have more players in the Champions League than England”.
Guess they have a writer who has no clue.
Over the years, England has always had about 10 -12 very good players at a time, but absolutely no depth.
Compared to Eastern European countries, very few play outside the country or are sought by foreign clubs. You can say that for Scotland, Wales, Ireland and Northern Ireland as well.
Like I said before, without foreigners on their squads, Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal would be Kamen Ingrad, Zadar, Slaven Belupo and Sibenik.
I have a feeling something extremely violent is going to happen to the anti-White establishment soon and their security – which amounts to White law enforcement is going to stand by and watch b/c most of them are normal White people who can’t stand the anti-White establishment either.
The anti-White criminals who run UEFA are using little innocent White children as their political billboards, making them wear “no to racism” tee-shirts as they line up before the games. Already brainwashing them that they must agree that what is non-White belongs to non-Whites, and what is White also belongs to non-Whites.
Ask yourself if ‘keeping Croatia White’ is “racist” and then try to tell me that “anti-racism” isn’t a codeword for anti-White.
@Maminjo
Your post made me laugh regarding Holiga. That dude will post only negative crap about Croatia,, he is quiet when it comes to good news for our national team. I am sure he is working in his basement on another story about HNS, Mamic Simunic and Thompson.
England fans and media will always overhype their teams, which makes it so comical when they crash and burn. Although it looks like they have come to terms with this. Even though they were perfect in qualifying I don’t think the expectations are too high for them at the Euros from their fans and media.
@The Beast & Armada
Don’t you just love how the title of the story lumps us with Belarus and Isreal!?
It’s no surprise to us you dumb English cunts! We’ve only qualified for 9 out if 11 tourneys and boast two of La Liga’s best players.
It’s no wonder England always sucks when it matters. Their superiority complex and unrealistic expectations always blow up in their face.
Quiet????????
Because I am posting here………..
You got me all wrong. I’ll be in France watching the games.
Nobody is a bigger advocate for lijepa nasa than myself. Don’t confuse sporting rhetoric and a few funny lines (or unfunny – depends on where you are standing) as being anti-hrvat. Far from it.
But, lets move away from this. No need for another day of discussions discussing my postings.
Don’t tell me you’re not feeling any Schadenfraufe over Ademi’s doping case.
Both you and Holiga are also pretty quiet now that Cro qualified for the Euros, and that Yugo Bojkot is losing steam. I’m sure you’d be posting and he’d be tweeting every minute of the day if Cro somehow missed out, but unfortunately they made it.
BY PETE SPENCER
A club which wins their domestic League 15 times in 22 seasons, finishing 2nd on a further three occasions, along with 12 domestic cups would be famous throughout the continent, wouldn’t it? After all, they’d have been in the Champions League for all those seasons and just think of the money.
When you add in some of the most famous Croatian players such as Zvonimir Boban, Davor Suker, Dario Simic, Robert Prosinecki, Igor Biscan, Eduardo, Goran Vlaovic, Zoran Mamic, Vedran Corluka, Luka Modric and Niko Krancjar, then you’d expect the whole of Europe to know who Dinamo Zagreb is. But they remain a mystery. Why?
Attendances
Average attendances are a puzzle too. For a ground with a capacity of 35,000 their average attendance figures are poor. In 2012-13 they fell below 3,000 (2,945). Their nearest rivals and 2nd most successful club in Croatia, Hajduk Split, average three times more than that (9,206). Even HNK Rijeka, who has never won the Croatian title, played to more fans (3,912) last season. The attendances at Maksimir Stadium have been falling steadily after they were up at 5,700 in 2009. Back in 2006 this figure was up at 11,156 when Dinamo ended a run of 1 title win in the previous 5 and began their incredible run of consecutive wins which currently stands at eight. In fact, the most popular club in Zagreb does not play football.
Ultras
The club has a vociferous supporter base of ultras, known as Bad Blue Boys (BBB), who have long been associated with extreme nationalist causes. An infamous riot between them and Red Star Belgrade supporters in the summer of 1990 is seen as one of the precursors to the ethnic Balkan wars which erupted a year later. The BBB were originally founded in 1986 and named after the 1983 Sean Penn film, Bad Boys.
Executive Director
Another reason is their self-appointed Executive Director, Zdravko Mamic. Mamic is the most powerful man in Croatian football. He controls the most important sections of football in the country and his word is decisive. He is a board member of the Croatian Football Federation (HNS) and few will challenge his point of view. He courts controversy at every turn. He has had various run-ins with journalists, officials and even police, often threatening violent behaviour or making vulgar comments about them and their profession.
In March 2013, he faced the threat of jail after a racist rant against Croatia’s Minister of Sport and Education, Zelko Jovanovic. Talking on a radio station Mamic, claimed Jovanovic was “A Croat-hater. When you look at him, you don’t see a smile but fangs with blood coming out of them”. He went onto say, “Jovanovic hates everything Croatian, a Serb cannot lead the country’s most important department. He’s an insult to Croatian brain.”
Mamic’s comments even drew a rebuke from President Ivo Jospipovic who claimed the words were “offensive and maliciously aggressive towards the Serbian minority and Serbs as people.”
The penalty for such an offence in Croatia is three years in prison. Whether Mamic suffers such punishment is up for debate, but in his defence he has been singled out by Jovanovic who seems to be against anything Croatian, which is not a good position to be when you are part of the Croatian government. Reuters announced on 20th June 2013 that “Croatia’s state prosecutors have indicted Zdravko Mamic for inciting racial hatred towards ethnic Serbs.”
Originally, Mamic claimed to have started out as one of the leaders of the BBB, but it has since been discovered he made that up. He made his millions in the 90’s during the war in the Balkans. Like Abramovich, no one really knows how he made his money but suggestions are that it was not through entirely lawful and ethical means. He had a brief spell as Dinamo President, which was not particularly successful and then he went into sports management and became an agent. The contracts he had with players were also highly dubious with many stories of charging parents vast amounts of money to take on their kids.
During the 90’s, Dinamo was backed by ruling politicians and, again, there are many rumours of titles being fixed. They also were alleged to be funded by the Treasury. The club was also in a battle with its own fans over the name. After independence the club was known as Croatia Zagreb, thought to promote the benefits for the country, as it was thought the name ‘Dinamo’ was linked to communism. Then came a change of government and Dinamo were now out of favour and their backing had disappeared. This was Mamic’s way back into the club. Gradually the true financial position of the club was revealed and they were shown to be crippled by huge debts. But Mamic had a plan.
He formed a new club, transferred all the players and trophies and left all the debts with the old club, which subsequently went bust. The ‘old’ Dinamo still owed money to some ex-players money, including Prosinecki, who now could not chase the ‘new’ Dinamo as they had never actually played for that club.
Having cleared the slate, Mamic then used his political connections to ensure the club was continually funded from taxpayers money, and thereby ensuring their continued domestic success to the detriment of the rest of the Croatian League. It is interesting to note how FIFA bans countries where governments have interfered with the running of the game, yet Croatia seems able to continue.
In 2011 there was a scandal when the club invested in new seats paid for with taxpayers money. It was then discovered the club had paid 3-4 times more than they needed for the seats and they bought them from a company whose owner is the wife of one of the club’s directors. When the fans challenged the club about it, Mamic’s response, in no uncertain terms, was simply to tell the fans where to go.
Agents
Most of the club’s players have the same agent – Mamic’s son, Mario. When Mamic took over he forced all the players to ditch their agents and join him, signing one of his contracts which signed away 25% of their salary for the rest of their career. Those players who wouldn’t sign, were sold. Niko Kranjcar, for example, went from Dinamo to Hajduk in 2005. Why? Because he wouldn’t switch agents or contracts.
Transfers
Once all the finest Croatian talent was signed up by Mamic, he then set about selling. Corluka left for Manchester City (£11.4m), Luka Modric for Tottenham (£18m), and Eduardo to Arsenal (£11.8m). But many fans have questioned where the money has gone, as there’s little evidence it has gone back into the club. This obviously brought Mamic a lot of money which in turn, can buy you a lot of influence. The suggestion is that Mamic not only bought more power in Croatia but, more importantly, other clubs within the League became dependent on him as he would often buy one of their players and loan them back. The Croatian League is not necessarily a wealthy one so one rich man can often be a magnet for others. The influence Mamic bought within Croatian football was to expand his reach inside HNS, and enable him to have control over who is in the key positions within the organisation.
In 2009, Eduardo took Mamic to court to try and get out of his ‘lifetime’ contract with Mamic. His lawyer claimed his contract should only be based on FIFA’s own rules, resulting in a 6% fee for his agent, whereas Mamic was creaming off 20% of his total income, including bonuses and advertising revenue.
Further evidence of Mamic’s influence is over the national team. Mamic was constantly at odds with Slaven Bilic, who wouldn’t always pick Mamic’s players. But Bilic had some decent results to back him up and so he prevailed. But when Bilic left for Russia, Mamic saw his opportunity and installed Igor Stimac. Stimac was a surprise choice, with no real experience or credentials and a man who Mamic had sacked when Dinamo manager in 2010. But he was the choice this time as he was seen as someone who could be ‘handled’ by Mamic. Interesting to note also that HNS announced a new president, Davor Suker, another Mamic choice.
One of Stimac’s first changes was to bring in Dinamo striker, Sammir for his first squad. Sammir is a player Mamic bought for a lot of money from Brazil in 2007. But Sammir has been inconsistent on the pitch, and hardly out of the tabloids off it. Realising he needed to maintain the player’s value, Mamic has engineered his inclusion in the national team. Bilic would never pick him, but Stimac has, almost immediately. Coincidence?
Bribery and Corruption
Croatian football has also been rocked by recent accusations of match-fixing. In July 2010, 21 people were arrested on suspicion of match fixing. 2011 saw 15 players convicted. It all unravelled when Hajduk Split President, Hrvoje Males, was used to create a sting to bribe Zeljko Siric, a former international referee and vice President of Croatian FA, and Stjepan Djedovic, the head of referees. Siric and Djedovic took the bait and were duly sent to prison. But whether the authorities are taking it seriously is a matter of debate as the Croatian Football Federation President was quoted as saying he couldn’t give a stuff about it. When Jovanovic was asked about the situation he said
“Croatian football is a huge swamp and it needs to be cleaned. If the leaders of the Football Federation knew what was going on then they are equally as guilty. If they didn’t know then they are incompetent. Either way, I expect them to leave.”
Hence the animosity from Mamic.
But since then, Croatian football believes it has been through the worst and the incidences of match-fixing and bribery have gone. Whether it brings back the public remains to be seen.
Conclusion
What we have here is a club financed by the state (in a country about to become an EU member), meaning an almost unlimited supply of money, which gives them an unfair advantage over the rest of their league. They buy players from other clubs in the league simply so those clubs become dependent on that source of income. They then pay over the odds for goods and services from companies owned, directly or indirectly, by members of the club’s board. They have a powerfully unhealthy influence on both the football federation and now, national team selection.
This is the sort of corruption which has been going on in China for many years, not necessarily in football, but in their reference to state control of society.
Of course all of this is circumstantial and little may be proved. What tends to happen in circles where money buys power, it can also buy you fear and ultimately, silence. One could argue Italy has suffered from symptoms such as this for years and has yet to fully eradicate it completely from its football culture.
But what is undeniable is that it is killing Croatian football, both for the players and, more importantly for the public. When you’re funded by the state you care little for the opinion of the supporters, as they are paying you indirectly regardless of how much they protest. It has been suggested Dinamo’s officials are unconcerned about the poor attendances at the Maksimir, preferring a smaller, less critical crowd, rather than spend 90 minutes being shouted at.

What joy do you speak of????????
Passing along news????
Oh the joy you must be feeling Živa. Like a kid at Christmas.
Its official…..Ademi is a doper.
Systematic at Europski dinamo????? Can’t really stand by that claim, as it is only one player.
I wonder if Doper Ademi will blame his mom in the same manner that Doper Cilic said it was his mom’s fault for his questionable doping results.
U-17 USA Pulusic scored against Croatia…..took Croatian citizenship to be able to play with Dortmund
Interesting read on the English players compared to us and other “smaller” NT’s. Not sure how to English turned in a perfect Euro qualifying campaign (didn’t watch any of their games) being they don’t have too many players in the CL.
In other news, Rakitic appears on the short list for Ballon D’or. Zero shot of winning that obviously, but nice to get the recognition.
greeks will not go far, they will get third place and drop out of CL play
it will be BM and arsenal taking 1st and 2nd.
Dinamo did not deserve to win the game, a draw sounds more fair for both sides. The greek champios seem to have a solid team with greek talent and very expensive forwards. I realy could see them overpassing Arsenal and qualify at the next round. They say Olympiakos has one of the toughest Homes at Ch League.
Interesting article, Croatians have more players in Champions League than England
http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/belarus-croatia-israel-more-players-6665605
Arsenal actually won 2-0, and a Olympiakos-Dinamo draw would have been more beneficial to them… They would have been 1 point behind 2nd, instead of 3.
any one see that u-17 team? i just watched the last 30 minutes of the game…pretty amazing play
down 2-0.. came back and scored 2 goals in the 2nd half. completely dominated the US outshooting them something like 30 to 5.
had two shots go off the crossbar in the final 20 seconds
on another note…it was like non-stop take-ons by the croatia players…. is this simply the way 17 yr olds play and the game changes as they get older? i don’t watch too much u-17 so not too familiar
Nobody’s talking about the cedo wearing the zvezda hat at Maksimir after the game?
I just dont think this is the right moment for the team. As usual by near the end of the season the players will show their best moments once we are out of Europe. Players such as Rog, Coric and Pjaca really need to develop in the next few months from the perspective of the national team. In the Champions League we really could do with that extra bit of experience to get us over the finish line in these matches. In games such as this we are crying out for a experienced guy Eduardo or a Olic to take a chance. Our strikers just not up to Champions League level.
In a group with Bayern and now Arsenal finally decided to play their strongest eleven I cannot see us qualify. I would like if anything the players to give the game of their lives and defeat this Olympiakos team as they are beatable. The other two will not be possible.
Good game they played, very entertaining match. Clear handball at the end of the match but that is the way it goes.
Unfortunately they will not progress. They needed this win and a loss by Arsenal. Still nothing to be ashamed of, they had good possesion and passing but some bad luck with the posts.
