Dinamo Zagreb and Hajduk Split capped off the first half of the season with a classic derby at Maksimir.
League-leaders Dinamo came away victorious after Damian Kadžior hit a stunning free kick from 30 yards out to beat the hopelessly-diving Hajduk goal keeper.
The lone goal was all that was needed in the contentious meeting between and Hajduk will be spending Christmas in sixth place. Dinamo remains at the top with an 11 point lead.
Osijek handed NK Inter Zaprešić an old-fashioned Christmas spanking on Sunday with a 6-0 win over the struggling Keramičari.
The match was initially scheduled to Saturday, but all league matches on Saturday were suspended due to heavy snowfall. However with the help of the citizens and supporters of Osijek, they were able to clear the snow from the pitch in time for a rescheduled kickoff on Sunday.
Mirko Marić found himself on the score sheet on three separate occasions, earning himself his first hat trick of the season.
Inter now sit six points behind Hajduk in seventh while Osijek move above Rijeka into second place.
Rijeka’s match against Slaven Belupo in Koprivnica was rescheduled to Wednesday afternoon due to heavy snowfall in the area. This match will be the final match of 2018. The season will resume on February 2, 2019.
