After a two-match undefeated streak, Cibalia was slapped back into place by title-chasing Dinamo on Saturday evening.
Dinamo’s frustration mounted over the last two weeks after dropping consecutive matches to Hajduk Split and Slaven Belupo.
The lack of scoring built up to an unbearable pressure that led the Blues to blow on Saturday, blasting six goals on to the score sheet.
Amer Gojak rocked Cibalia’s world by scoring four goals on the evening, accompanied by two goals from Soudani and Domagoj Antolic, which totaled up to a 6-0 win for the Modri.
No matter the goals, 6 or 600 scored, the Modri were only given three points, which is still not enough to catch the undefeated and surging Rijeka.
Rijeka continued their relentlessness on Saturday and kept their eight-point lead over Dinamo with a 2-0 win against Inter Zapresic. Goals from Mario Gavranovc and Roman Bezjak sealed the deal and put the club one step closer to the championship.
Though no one should be celebrating anything yet. Rijeka will still have a tough road ahead, including another meeting with Dinamo, Hajduk, and most likely, Dinamo-friendly match officials.
A battle for third place is heating up between Hajduk Spit and Osijek. Hajduk currently has the edge with a three-point lead, but Hajduk have played one more match than Osijek. Both sides achieved victory with 2-0 and 1-0 wins, respectively.
