Five matches, two goals. That’s the HNL in a nutshell after this weekend.
Jeremy Taravel gave Dinamo a minimal win over NK Zagreb on Saturday with his 39th minute penalty. Dinamo was unable to find a second goal against the Poets who played one of their best games of the season.
The quality wasn’t quite there though, as they still failed to score against the Croatian giants.
Rijeka won 1-0 over Lokomotiva at Kranjčevićeva earlier on Saturday with a lone goal from Mario Gavranović.
Lokomotiva had a chance as well in the second half, but Mirko Marić‘s penalty was saved by Ivan Vargić. Three Rijeka players entered the box earlier than allowed when the penalty was taken, but went un noticed by the official.
Hajduk and Slaven played to a scoreless draw in Koprivnica while Split and Osijek did the same. Inter Zaprešić held Istra to a shutout, while Istra held Inter to a shutout.
Each team has a chance to quickly redeem themselves this week as Week 32 starts this afternoon with a big match between Dinamo and Rijeka at Rujevica.
Ivan Vargić took to the internet to show his confidence that they will beat Dinamo, claiming Rijeka is “King of Rujevica”.
Vargić isn’t wrong. Rijeka have yet to ever lose at Rujevica in any competition. With a Rijeka win, they will be only one point behind Dinamo with four matches left to be played. With a Dinamo win, they will have the title all but wrapped up for the 11th consecutive season.
Match starts at 2 pm EST
Probably the only ‘must see’ match of the season.
Rijeka shit the bed, congrats to Dinamo on #11 in a row.
Dinamo win and we have zero to talk about until June.
