Dinamo Zagreb have become the first team in Croatia’s Prva Liga to remain undefeated through the entire season with their final win coming on Saturday against Rijeka.
Two goals by Marko Pjaca and one goal for both Jeremy Taravel and Soudani brought the game to its 4-0 final score, giving Dinamo 88 points on the season and topping the league with ease.
Dinamo ended the season with 26 wins and 10 draws with zero losses.
Dinamo was also presented with their 10th consecutive league trophy at Maksimir on Saturday. Over 14,000 fans were in attendance to watch the Modri celebrate the impressive feat.
The loss for Rijeka was nothing but a formality as they finished the season comfortably in second place and will be competing in the upcoming Europa League season.
Despite the financial, managerial, and coaching woes of the once-great Hajduk Split, the Bili ended the season safely in third place, 25 points behind Rijeka.
Hajduk ended their season on Saturday with a 1-1 draw against RNK Split and will be competing in the upcoming Europa League qualifications.
But the real excitement took place on Sunday with teams not only fighting for their lives in the first league, but also between teams fighting for fourth place; the final ticket into the Europa League qualifiers.
NK Lokomotiva and NK Zagreb both had equal records and an equal amount of points and were both vying for an opportunity to play on the European stage. It just so happened that both clubs were playing against teams fighting to stay alive in the first division; Locomotive against last-placed Zadar and NK Istra against NK Zagreb.
Zadar could have stayed in the first league with a win over Lokomotiva at Stanovi and a loss from Osijek, but Lokomotiva took the match 3-2 after Jerko Leko scored a penalty in the final minute of second half stoppage time.
The heart breaking loss for Zadar was a heart warming victory for Lokomotiva.
NK Zagreb defeated Istra 1-0 and did all they could to achieve fourth place, but since the Poets and the Lokosi ended with equal points, it came down to goal differential which the Lokosi had the advantage in.
More drama came from the Osijek-NK Slaven Belupo match on Sunday.
If Slaven won, and both Lokomotiva and Zagreb lost, Slaven would have been bumped up to fourth place, but Osijek was too resilient and refused to lie down and face the possibility of relegation.
After the Pharmacists went up 1-0 in the fourth minute, Osijek upped their game and Antonio Perošević scored two goals to take the lead.
Slaven equalized late in the game but knowing that a draw was not enough, the Osijek Hero, Aljoša Vojnović, stepped up to the penalty spot in the 88th minute to put his team in the lead, and ultimately brought them to victory.
Osijek finished the season safe in eighth place, one point a head of possible relegation. Slaven finished the season in sixth.
Osijek also remain one of only four teams to have never been relegated from Croatia’s top league.
Zadar will be spending next season competing in the second division while NK Inter Zaprešić will rejoin the first league for the first time since being relegated after the 2012/13 season.
NK Istra finished the season in ninth place; a place reserved for the relegation/promotion playoff. Traditionally, the ninth-placed team would play the second-placed team in the second league to see who will be promoted/relegated. Istra is slated to face Radnik Sesvete.
There is no official word yet, but sources say the match between Istra and Sesvete will not take palce as Sesvete has withdrawn from consideration to join the first league.
Sesvete club president, Pero Karatović, stated that their stadium is not permitted for the first division and if they can not play in their stadium, then they will not play in the first division.
There is no official word from the HNS on the matter and the match/punishment for Sesvete is pending. If Sesvete refuse to play, sanctions could be set on the the club that could be as severe as being sent to the lowest division of Croatian football.
MelbCro…you seem to have a hard on for my comments…you ok?
my point is general and I was trying to explain the situation in the sport itself. In the Scottish league, the majority of teams get 5000 or less on a regular basis…how many players do they produce? same thing goes for the Swiss League…they have a way better economy ten-fold…who produces better players…Belgium is also a very strong country economically, they have far better infrastructure than Croatia, better sponsorships, better everything….and yet, I think we have always been a contender with them in soccer….
Eibar may be a bad example but the league Eibar belongs to and the money opportunities they have far outweigh Dinamo’s.
Slavonac, Eibar is a bad example, they get 6,000 people which is how much their stadium fits. they sell out every game. And they are a small town with a population of 27,000. Eibar should be used as an example for Croatian clubs on what to emulate. Not sure why you are portraying them in a negative light with those other clubs?
But Dinamo is not Eibar or Empoli or Cagliari or Udinese of Cro.
Plus, all those teams play games in shitholes as well. No wifi, no HD, no roof, lack of quality food and drink.
I really don’t understand all this criticism of Croatian soccer teams. If any of you look through Europe, you’ll see that few if any countries develop competitive teams without a lot of financial support and having a strong infrastructure….and even then, look at the BIG teams in Europe, most go out and buy their players and yet here you guys go on bashing a minnow country with little money from sponsors and not a high rate of attendance. The attendance issue isn’t just in Croatia, its everywhere you have smaller clubs….even in the best league in Europe, Eibar averaged 6000 fans per game….In Italy, Empoli averaged 1600…Cagliari averaged 5000, Udinese averaged 6000…the same shit goes on in Scotland…
all of these countries have a better economy than Croatia, all have better sponsorship deals, all have better stadiums, all have a better support system…..and yet few produce the players Croatia does!
some of you see things negatively all the time, you have no clue about anything and yet, all you do is complain like a stara baba…
@ Ziva
The HNL really hasn’t ‘become’ anything. Once the Jugo league collapsed – all the Balkan leagues became feeder leagues for the West. The HNL might of had a few solid teams in the 90’s who got some nice results in Europe, but after that .. what has the HNL really been able to hang its hat on? Dinamo’s 10 straight titles? Producing Modric, Corluka, Da Silva, Kovacic, etc.? Since it’s inception, its been a below average Eastern European league that doesn’t get a lot of attendance, produces some nice individual talent here and there, but none of its teams have or will done squat on a big stage.
I still laughing that we had someone in this site who thinks that current day dinamo draws a crowd.
It just shows what the HNL has become.
MelbCro,
I’m fine with that response but it’s definitely always up for a good debate.
Ante I know the history, my point was to show the absurdity of a Dinamo fan calling Hajduk a Yugo when conveniently ignoring their own clubs history. Both clubs have a collaboration past with the regime. Neither has the right to take the moral high ground.

Great yet another Dinamo Hajduk debate.
MelbCro,
Dinamo had to be founded by communists because it was the communists who disbanded Gradanski, HASK and Concordia because those teams played in NDH and were Ustaske. Hajduk might have wanted to? Hell if we can insert that word then we can say that Gradanski wanted to continue playing under that name but the authorities would not allow that and they didn’t flee NDH.
True they weren’t allowed to play but they have nothing to do with it, as Dinamo isn’t one of those clubs. Don’t let the logic get in the way of your stupidity
zagreb teams were no allowed to play because they stay ustase not like you jugos who play as novj
@Anonymous “all zagreb teams did with ustase”
Since you lack some history knowledge, Hajduk wanted to join NDH’s league but due to the complication of NDH’s borders (with Italy taking coastal land), they were prevented.
You might be getting Hajduk Split and RNK Split mixed up.
“still jugo becuase you joined with partizani and all zagreb teams did with ustase and were shut down”
All those Zagreb teams aren’t Dinamo. Dinamo was founded by the communists, those same partizani you are talking about genius. Pretty simple concept, not surprised someone as stupid as you can’t grasp it.
still jugo becuase you joined with partizani and all zagreb teams did with ustase and were shut down
It is very ironic, given that Dinamo was founded by tito’s communist regime. While Hajduk was founded by Croatian nationalists in 1911 before Tito hit the scene or Yugoslavia even existed.
@Anonymous
Hahaha “yugo team”? Buddy Hajduk has been around since 1911, before the kingdom of “yugoslavia” and before “sfyr.” Their first grb had white field first.
Ima li jos koja gluposti, Anonymous?
you can use dynamo, we will use novj hajduk where novj means narodno oslobodilacke vojske jugoslavije hajduk. it still is your yugo team
@npd “your jugo tito team”
Assuming this is a Dynamo fan saying this, that would be a pretty ironic statement.
@Milan
I’m surprised you’ve never heard of Dynamo giving away tickets so they could fill up their stadium. It’s the only way Mamic can actually bring a few people to the games.
Not the entire content, I thought it was a form of porno….kinda like what several celebs have done…not like this at all, she’s completely out of it.
You knew what the video was though, correct?
So you wouldn’t click the link if your buddy sent it to you? I saw it and am sad for the girl, just shows what some people are capable of doing in this world!
You still watched it. You can’t on one hand say you are disgusted by the act and then at the same time actively view the incident. Makes no sense dude.
It’s been in the news everyday, i had no idea it was as bad as it was….also….I didn’t track it down, a guy at work sent it to me.
Agreed. I just can’t find any sympathy for the girl here. She has a terrible rep.
Slavonac, you are one strange dude. You talk about how disturbed you are by the rape video and how disgusting you think it is. Yet you went out of your way to track the video down and then watch it. That’s some contradiction.
Damn iPhone!
Totally different scenarios Ziva! Severina knew she was banging some guy on video and probably didn’t mind when it got released….this other girl looks like a lamb amongst some sick animals!
Shagging is funnel but it’s pretty stupid and ridiculous to shag someone that isn’t coherent!
I think I made two correct statements today Ante….I also said Coric handed out tickets to schools and kafice….not bad eh?!?!
Was she raped?????? Probably
Was she drugged?????? Probably
Will people feel sorry for her based on her reputation??????? Not really.
Hopefully the three dudes involved in this get a severe ass kicking.
The Severina video from back in the day was all sorts of laughter.
Correct statement.
Severina wasn’t drugged and raped like this girl….this girl had no idea what was going on and those 3 pukes were treating her like a farm animal!
Just saw the video and it’s a complete opposite of Severina’s. Severina loved every second of being hammered like she stole something. This other chick is passed out. Even I feel sorry for her and I clicked off the video after 15 seconds. A record for me.
Ziva…i doubt most people care about the attendance and really, it’s not a big issue….Give Milan a break dude!
About Katanic….Ziva, I thought the video was disturbing man….if she was not drugged then ok, I can blame her but in this case she had no clue where she was….that’s rape man….so damn sad to see even if she is a whore! I don’t think it’s ok to laugh at things like that….I find it disturbing!
@milan…….do you read the news from cro???? The free and discounted tickets were all over the news. And what did I get wrong about Halilovic??????? You may not like what I say or how I write it, but it’s not wrong.
@slavonac……..she only has herself to blame. She is a whore and has been for a long time. Worst kept secret in the ZG nightlife is people like Katanic and her fellow “models” and the prostitution they are involved with. I saw the video and had a good laugh. Tough to feel sorry for someone like her.
Milan, I think Ziva is right with this….even Coric went to schools to hand out tickets….apparently there were several people going to schools and kafice!
Hey guys….what’s the story with the Tina Katanic girl….I saw a video where she was drugged and raped and yet, people are blaming her for a sex video? I feel bad for the girl…she was raped man….it’s pretty sad to see!
@naprid bili
I wish those 30,000 had protested at the headquarters of Hajduk, those are the crooks who corrupted our team instead of the HNS. Same old crap. SRAMOTA as they would say.
Ziva, you just don’t stop, you are like a girl, so now you are telling us no one paid for the tickets.First you state no one at the game which is not the case. You cover yourself by saying the tickets are free. You have proof they were given away. Sure you do.
Just like the crap with Halilovic, you had inside proof on that one. Good going champ. .
You do realize you are full of crap. Good night.
You do realize that nobody paid for those tickets. They were given away. Dinamo went around to local schools and gave away the tickets. They also offered discounted tickets along with a beer to other fans. So, you can take that 14,000 figure and think it is impressive. But, how many of those tickets were actually paid for. Less than 1,500. So, if you think that is impressive for Europski Dinamo, then I don’t know what to tell you.
Shit, I think more people comment on this site than actually attend matches in most Croatian stadiums.
Honestly, it doesn’t matter who is running Dinamo. Attendance will always be shit.
The HNL has become a farm league for other clubs, where they no longer even wait for a player to hit the age of 20 before they are sold off.
Couple this with the people having no disposable income (due to the country being in a recession since 2008), and a league where over half of the teams are from towns that don’t even have a population that cracks 75,000 people (including women and children who wouldn’t even attend these games).
Look at HNK Rijeka as an example. Lots of excitement with Rijeka right now. New owner, lot of investment, smart coach, and more success in Europe than they’ve ever had. Back-to-back runners up, with a not-so-unreasonable belief that they can take the title in the next few years. New stadium coming too.
But the attendance? Still shit.
I guess you could point to the success of that futsal club Dinamo as a counter argument, but this is the BBB creating their own team to spite Mamic. So long as the drama between them exist, the futsal club will benefit. But if Mamic were to get tossed from Dinamo tomorrow, then I’m sure the BBB would be back in full force at Maksimir…then it would fizzle a bit over time, and then plateau back to the normal ‘low thousands’ level (similar to Hajduk and Rijeka).
Simply put, nobody is going to consistently drop money every week to watch a bunch of 17-year old play football, only to have the most talented ones sold off before you get a chance to see what they can do in person.
Unfortunately, this harsh reality may be the only way the HNL stays afloat.
Maybe one day, if the country is no longer in a recession, and the wisely run teams (like Rijeka) continue to exceed expectations, we may see them hold onto their talent for 2-3 more years and make some runs in the Europa League (or not be pylons in the Champions League). At this point, we might see consistent 15K+ people attending league matches on a regular basis.
I understand the average but when someone like Ziva makes a comment as “Europski Dinamo dominates the league, again, and has no fans, again”
I decided to check it out and that was not the case at all. Over 14,500 for that game. i dont consider that no fans. Do I consider that great? No but the same goes for every other team in the league. Regardless of the exception for the last three games they had above average attendance.
Forgot about the Cup match,(the averages I was looking at were strictly for league matches only) but along with that, the Rijeka and hajduk match, that isn’t the norm for a Dinamo game. Three “high” attendance games don’t help too much when the season average is still barely over 3,000. I say “high” because remember the capacity of Maksimir is nearly 40,000.
Having three games in a row over 10k is actually great by today’s standards, but I watch almost every game of every team. Those numbers are the exception, not the rule, unfortunately.
Though average attendance is down nearly 1k from last year, it’s up noticeably since 2008.
just to clarify where the numbers for attendance came from soccerway.com
@Colin
well say what you want but those figures are correct on dinamo, rijeka and hajduk, the 14,372 was the derby with hajduk
the 11,500 was for the Kup with split
14,500 was the last game of the season
Absolutely no way did Dinamo have attendance figures that high. The last game, yes, some 14k were there, but they average less than 3k per game. I’ve seen a few games where less than 1k showed up this season.
Hajduk has the highest average attendance which just goes to show you Hajdukovac are just gluttons for punishment.
Kantrida’s capacity is only like 11k, so they fill up about half the stadium, which is more than most teams can say.
http://www.worldfootball.net/attendance/cro-1-hnl-2014-2015/1/
All about the beer. Once drove through Karlovac for the freshest Karlo ever.
I find this topic very odd. Seems a select few constantly bring up the fan issue for Dinamo. I checked online and for the last three home games Dinamo’s attendance, starting with the most recent fixture was 14,500, 11,500 and 14,272.
In comparsion Hajduk Split last three home games the attendance was 5,000, 4,000 and 6,000.
Rijeka not much better. 5,000, 4,5000 and. 4,000
Not sure why Dinamo is always brought up but these numbers show Hajduk and Split have not even broken the 10k barrier for the past three home games.
Regardless of this nothing to jump up and down for Dinamo but all the teams seem to be hurting from a fan base and I would say it has to do more with the current economic crisis in Croatia.
Pan pivo
@npb????? you don’t read well, do you?
@naprid bili
30,000 lmfao, last week your jugo tito team had 5,000 in attendance. bang
bijelo vino in Varazdin? aren’t you guys big beer drinkers in those neck of the woods?
How many people do you think will show in Varazdin for the Gilbraltor friendly? I would expect the stadium to have good energy- Good for my beloved Varazdin to get a match- Maybe after the match the players can experience what a true industrious economy looks like- hard working people who work their ass off and enjoy the rewards- Maybe even take in some Baroque architecture and experience a classical musical rendition. If that doesn’t work how about some Bijelo vino and pečena svinja.
Bad result from Doper Cilic today. Still, a good run in the French. He needs to get his season back on track.
@Notmy Realname…….good question. Unless you are a crnac or a wannabe crnac or a croatian rapper, you shouldn’t be showing your underwear in public and nobody can see the name of the brand you wear. So, you should be OK. But, I appreciate you asking. Good question. Anyone else?
@Marko
Great video. Music goes along very well. Share it with Hajduk/Torcida FB pages, I’m sure they’ll post it.
@sibenik “they had 14,000, this is croatia, any team with 14,000 in attendance has to be happy”
Ajme hahahaha. The Anti-HNS prosvjed in Split had at least 30,000 and you’re highly impressed that 14k (supposedly) people showed up for Dynamo?
Ziva,
A lot of those people post the used items on eBay and make a profit. You should be able to appreciate that, no?
I have always been meaning to ask, where do people rate who wear Calvin Klein and/or Bjorn Borg underwear? That has go to be the, litteraly, the worst form of jock sniffing, no? Wearing another man’s name on your underwear???!!!
and how many of those tickets were giveaways??????
what do you mean no fans at dinamo game
they had 14,000, this is croatia, any team with 14,000 in attendance has to be happy
This week in jock sniffing brings up this……..
So, I am watching Federer’s match from the French Open this morning (BTW…..terrible first two sets from Doper Cilic today) and after the match he is taking off his sweaty wristband and headband and tosses them to the crowd. And guess what???? We had grown adults battling over the wristband and headband. Grown adults!!!!! Good lord. And I thought guys who wore jerseys with the last name of another person on their back had serious issues. This takes it to another level. What exactly does one do with a used headband or wristband? What the hell is next???? Game used underwear?????
Just a never lesson for all of you in what not to do.
Congrats Dinamo on an excellent season.
Good job on the video Marko!!!
Marko,
You should think about contacting Denis and Ante to become part of the future wave of Croatiansports.com contributors, especially given your field of study and expertise
Ok, fair enough. I thought you might have been a fan boy or jock sniffer.
Not that i need to respond to u Ziva, but i will anyways… I’ve got an internship (yes i’m around that age) with a sports team in the digital media department, and knowledge of photoshop, and iMovie is a requirement. I thought i could educate myself w/ the programs by making some highlight videos of Hajduk players, but i guess thats jock sniffing. Sorry i didn’t make a video of grass growing instead. Also feel free to click the ad in the beginning of the video if you think i should make profit from it 🙂
I don’t know where making videos of players goes on the jock sniffing scale if done for no profit, but it has to be up there.
Anyway, what did we learn recently with the HNL.
Europski Dinamo dominates the league, again, and has no fans, again.
Jadan, mali i nemocan hajduk remain jadan, mali i nemocan.
Rijeka is trying.
Lokomotiva remains Dinamo B, which should be illegal in a normal league.
NK Bjezigrad gets relegated but to be fair they got screwed over two weeks ago when the HNL came out and said they didn’t pass the criteria to be a first division club. That should not have been announced until after the season. They were still alive to survive and the news came out right before a critical game for them. More proof the HNL doesn’t know how to operate.
Then, we have a team from the second division that comes out and basically says “nah, we good. We won’t play in the playoff and try to get into the first division. We rather stay in the second division.”
Friends, that is the HNL for you. Did I miss anything?????
Thanks Mr. Black! Glad you enjoyed it.
Marko,
Great video, great player.
Thanks!
Hey guys i made a video on Hajduk wonderkid Nikola Vlašić, and was hoping you guys could check it out. It’s the first video i’ve ever made, so don’t be too harsh lol.
