Ivan Dodig, alongside French partner Kristina Mladenovic, are taking home the Austalian Open mixed doubles trophy!
The duo, ranked #5 in the world, defeated Australian pair Jason Kubler and Jaimee Fourlis in the final 6-3, 6-4. Dodig now has five grand slam trophies, four of them from mixed doubles.
Bravo Ivane!
Ivan should bone this Kristina chick and make some proper new tennis talent for the future. Kristina would become Croatian, and their children def would be Croatians. Yeah, in the pic it seems she’s wearing a checkered shirt 😀😂. I’m pretty sure she’s got the hots for our handsome Ivan.
Petra Marcinko just won the Australian Junior Open. Hopefully she pans out.
For those demographic panickers we should let a bunch of Ukrainians emigrate to Croatia. The condition that they be young and willing to procreate and of course become proper Catholics.
Even if they’re Orthodox Christians, it is important to scrap the Serbian Orthodox church monopoly in Croatia that essentially made all immigrants from Orthodox nations like Ukraine, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Romania, etc. . . automatic Serbs in our country because no other Orthodox church was allowed to operate in Croatia, and all these other people had to baptize and raise their kids in Serbian Orthodox communities in Croatia.
Perfect example is Nikola Tesla being a Vlah ( not a Serb) but his family being Orthodox meant they had to be part of the Serb community.
@Maminjo
“it is important to scrap the Serbian Orthodox church monopoly in Croatia”
Whose responsibility do you believe it should be to build “orthodox” churches for the Bulgarians, Macedonians, Romanians, Ukrainians etc. to go along with the Serbian “orthodox” church, synagouges and mosques in Croatia? Whose supposed to pay for all this? The Croats, those communuties, or the EU?
Did you know that in the Independent State of Croatia (NDH) there was a Croatian “orthodox” church, what do you believe it should’ve been called?
Well…If a bunch of Ukrainians decided to immigrate to Zagreb, I’m sure they would coordinate something within their community to build a Ukrainian Orthodox church for their needs.
My point is that they should not be “barred” from doing so, and forced to adhere to Serbian Orthodoxy ( which is what happened in the past, and resulted in all Orthodox Christians simply becoming Serbs). To this day, the Montenegrins and Macedonians have unrecognized churches, even within their own countries. It really shows to what lengths the Serbs go to “Serbianize” these cultures against their will.
Re: The Croatian Orthodox church…
This is actually being revisited in Croatia again. I assume there may be demand for it amongst these mixed marriage groups who don’t want to be identified as Serbs. I personally know a half Montenegrin half Italian guy who lives in Zagreb and is pissed that he would have to use a Serbian Orthodox church if he were to raise a kid in his Orthodox Christian faith.
I get where he’s coming from.
@Maminjo
“My point is that they should not be “barred” from doing so”
Whose barred them from doing so? We’re talking in Croatia so it would have to be the Croats wouldn’t it?
Maybe that’s the Serbs pay off for doing their part during the sham homeland war?
A lot of people believe that the Serbs were just playing the perfect foil for the “Croats” of the communist culture during the sham homeland war, in this way manipulating nationalist Croats into entering into Tudjman’s (Tito’s youngest general) labours, allowing the communists to get their hands on Croatian land so they can get Croats to emigrate again, just like they had to after ww2, this makes sense when you consider small Croat @”The truth” said: “eu membership has caused mass emigration from Croatia,” and you say the Serbs are allowed by the “Croats” to build their “orthodox” churches while other “orthodox” communities are barred?
The small Croat @”The truth” also said the Croats should promote mass immigration to fill the void left by the emigrating Croats, the small Croat didn’t answer why it is that Croatia should be good enough for immigrants but not for the emigrating Croats?
The Serbian Orthodox church barred them in the past. Now that Croatia is not part of Yugo anymore, there is no Serbian Orthodox church getting in the way (though I’m sure if Macedonian and Crnogorci in Croatia built a church, Serbs would cry foul).
Either way, any new Orthodox communities are free (and should be free) to build any community centre or church, so they are not automatically (and falsely) absorbed into any Serbian community.
The point of my original post was that if we are allowing Ukrainians into Croatia, and they do not happen to be the Catholic ones, that we ensure there is no influence coming from the Serbian Orthodox church to ‘encourage’ the Ukrainians to join their church (because that is exactly what they would do).
Or all the young Hrvati can become proper Catholics and care more about God, family and country than for filthy money and personal gratification. Let them get married young and have 5 children (minimum, like they did in the old days) per couple and Croatia would become a world power in 2 generations (and not only in sports like we are now).
Živili Hrvatska i Hrvati
Viva Christo Rey
Bog i Hrvati
@Ivo: Totally agree. I always thought that Ukrainians (preferably Catholic ones but heck Ukrainians are good in any case), or even Catholic Slovaks would be our best option for fighting the demographic loss which Croatia has been experiencing.
Pure ignorance here
Why do we seem to consistently produce more doubles winners then singles?
It’s really just been these last few years. I can’t ever remember Croatia winning anything in doubles in the 90s or 2000s (other than Goran winning that medal in doubles i think at Barcelona ’92). Dodig has 6 grand slams, Mate Pavic has 5 and Nikola Mektic has 2 so it’s really those guys that are just doubles specialists.
We have more double winners because they are not good at singles. Good money can be earned in doubles especially at the 4 grand slams.
I think it’s because going up against one Croat is tough enough …go up against two and it’s time to throw in the towel 🕺🏽
That’s awesome! Congrats to both of them.
Mladenovic is Serbian though.
She plays for France 🇫🇷
But she’s still Serbian mate.
Maybe Dodig is raw-Dodig-ging her
Yes she is, but it almost looks like she’s wearing a checkered shirt, lol😂
Dodig winning his sixth grand slam in doubles, been a real journeyman and really experienced and good at doubles so well done to him. I think we’ve at least won one of the doubles titles in recent years so that’s something!
