After scoring 80 goals in 85 matches for Dinamo Zagreb’s youth teams, Ivan Šaranić has deservedly began his professional career with Dinamo’s second team in the Druga Liga. In his first six professional games, the 17 year-old has scored three goals and provided an assist – carrying his squad out of the league’s relegation zone. This past Saturday, Šaranić scored a brace against Dugopolje as Dinamo II took care of business with a 2-0 victory.
Following his magnificent two-goal performance last weekend, I briefly spoke with Ivan. When asked about his thoughts on his performance, the young attacker stated, “There is no better feeling than to score two goals in an important match and to help my team get a victory.”
According to a recent Zdravko Mamić interview, the left-footed attacker is expected to join Dinamo Zagreb’s first team next season. When we asked Ivan about his experience in the Druga Liga and plans for next season, he told me, “I feel that in every match I give my maximum on the pitch. People at the club will decide if I play next season for the first or second team. Of course, the games for Dinamo Zagreb II will give me the experience that I need for higher levels that I want to reach in my career”.
Keep your eyes on Ivan Šaranić.
Are we gonna find out in a few years from now that this guy’s grandfather is born in Germany or France?
Cap this motherfucker ASAP!

I agree with both of you regarding Kovačić. He is a bust for the National Team. He should have never left Inter for Real Madrid.
The issue is there was to much hype with him. I love Luka Modrić, but he wanted Kovačić in Madrid. Why? What for? Modrić is a competitor who wants to play every minute. Kovačić didn’t stand a chance in Madrid.
One thing I give Kovačić Credit for was his first Cap was against Serbia back in March 2013. For an 18 year to be playing his first men’s game against Serbia and playing along side Modrić i Raketa. He held his own.
Kova’s a tidy player that could fit into almost any team but he’s not gonna drive that team forward. He’s like a world class passenger.
There are guys who were frauds, and never had talent (but were hyped for some reason).
.
Then, there are guys who are actually very talented, but (for whatever reason) their careers do not pan out like it should.
.
A player like Mato Neretljak was a fraud. Only capped to be sold.
So were players like Vučko, Šerić, Sablić, Sharbini, Vukušić to an extent.
.
Deranja was a talent, but for whatever reason, his career didn’t really work outside his early days at Hajduk. Vukušić seemed like he had something, but maybe it was more passion than actual talent.
.
Mijo Caktaš has a bit of that too where he is talented, but his career might be just an uncapped player stuck in the HNL.
.
Balaban actually carved out a decent career too, and played well in the few National Team games he had, but was definitely overhyped.
.
Kovačić, to me, is our biggest bust.
Somehow he is worth 50 million Euro, regularly plays for top European teams… But has completely failed to even come close to expectations in his 60+ caps for the National Team.
May seem weird to label him a bust, but he’s the only one we really rely on to get better. He doesn’t need to be the next Modrić, just needs to be a quality starter for us that reflects his club experience and transfer value. He’s not even come close to meeting it.
Ohhh okay then yes that makes a lot more sense
@Markus
.
No, I meant that Burton would be competing with Jakić.
Not Šaranić.
Delac had quite the impressive Chelsea career. Still playing for a no name club in the Danish league! Lol
@Frenchman
I do agree putting expectations on youth footballers to reach the heights of top players around the world is setting yourself up for disappointment. I will add, it isn’t I who set these expectations up for them. This was done by there youth coaches, peers and professional scouts who even convinced clubs to pay millions for their services. This was done with the expectation that they would reach a certain level and we are all just a byproduct from that.
There is no busts, only idiots that thought a certain player would be world class, and in failing to reach the level an idiot expected him to reach said player becomes a bust. In my opinion the idiot, or wanna be scout if you like, is the bust.
Just in the last decade
Brodic
Pjaca Coric Halilovic
Balic Radosevic
Benkovic Jedvaj
Delac
I don’t know who would be the wing backs. Muric and more would come off the bench.
I’m leaning towards no because he was a valuable piece on the Repka. I feel that should disqualify you from this honourable position haha.
Would Niko Kranjcar be considered a bust? Loved him as a player but idk if he lived up to expectations.
@Maminjo
Jakic isn’t a good comparison to Saranic imo
He’s a guy who can play DM as well as CM, not the quickest but still a quality HNL player with potential to play for a middle of the table team in a top 5 league
Saranic isn’t more of a Kulusevski player on the wings and an offensive KDB styled player when he’s in the middle
He’d be competing for a spot with Majer, Ivanusec (if they’re still there by next season) and maybe Kastrati/ Atiemwen (but he’ll probably just be better than them by next year anyway
The Croatian Michael Owen, Mihael Mikic
I think Tudor belongs on it too. He was hyped big
Captain would be Goran vucevic
That would be a fun exercise for a slow nogomet news day… we have a ‘star studded’ list when it comes to busts, from the 90’s and 2000’s to present day.
Benkovic
Great question lukita,I would add Jedvaj to medo’s list and maybe palaversa if he Doesn’t progress soon.
Bosko balaban was pretty hyped back in the day,and didn’t do much.
What would be Croatia’s All Time Bust XI?
Oh never mind. Burton is more of a #6.
I guess he would be competing with Jakic.
80 goals in 85 matches (even at youth team level) is no joke.
.
Playing in the 2.HNL as a 17 year old (the youngest player on the team) and scoring 3 goals in 4 starts is impressive.
.
Might cause an issue with Wales U23 captain Robbie Burton, who is kind of caught between Dinamo’s senior squad and Dinamo II.
I think they play the same position, and I think Dinamo has been trying to slowly bring Burton into the senior fold.
.
Dinamo is such a talent factory if they have 17 year old kids already breathing down the neck of borderline senior squad players lol.
and don’t include Halilovic because he should be put in the level of God- .. you imbecile |}:
Don’t include Pjaca in that group, as before his injuries he was on track.
This kid is special. He stands out above any other player on the pitch even when he plays with Dinamo II. Very gifted player let’s hope he does what’s best for him and becomes world class…
Let the hype train 🚂 begin …we need at least 3or4 of these youngsters to become world class if we are going to continue to compete at a high level with the big boys.
Enough with the halilovic pjaca muric Balic coric etc etc flame outs !!
