It seems as though Croatian international Nikola Vlašić will be leaving West Ham to join Italian side Torino FC on loan with option to buy. The 24 year old produced just 1 goal in 19 premier league appearances in quite the disappointing debut season for the Hammers. Over the course of this season, Vlašić has seen his transfer value drop nearly 10 million Euros and hasn’t scored for Croatia since last September in a 3-0 triumph over Slovenia.
Ivan Juric may be trying to build a Croat-heavy squad in Turin with the likes of Nikola Vlašić, Marko Pjaca and (potentially) Josip Brekalo, if the latter doesn’t find a new club for next season.
I believe this is an excellent move for Vlašić, as he’ll be more than likely guaranteed a starting spot in a league that probably suits him better than the Prem. Jurić is an outstanding coach and seems to rate Vlašić quite highly. Perhaps his connection with Brekalo would also be something great to develop there.
This next season will allow Vlašić to truly prove whether he’s got “it” in him or not. He’s shown his quality many times but has also shown just how invisible he can be.
What are your thoughts on the transfer?
[…] Juric is a huge admirer of Vlasic and was hoping to build the Torino team around him. […]
I think that people are jumping the gun about Vlasic going to Torino ?
Permanent transfer is out of the question (WH paid 30 million), so it would have to be on loan. It would be great for him and Dalic, if it was to happen. His salary at West Ham is 4 million. This could be a sticking point, as I cannot see Torino paying this amount. Vlasic will need to agree to a big salary cut and /or WH to agree to pay part of his salary while on loan.
Apparently Juranovic has potential interest in the Premier League. Not sure of that is good or bad, depending on the team. These guys have to be smart about what teams they choose, and be sure that they will be starting or getting a decent amount of playtime other wise these things can happen to their careers.
We are T-minus 5 months till Qatar.
Jurić is a great manager who will have Vlašić in prolific mode by August.
Vlašić gets hot and he can be explosive for us coming off the bench.
He brings a direct dynamic for us.
Very much needed.
Inspired by this move.
Would be a very good move for him. No point sitting on the bench at West Ham, too much talent to sit there going to waste
What you guys think of the chances of we see a starting World Cup back 4 consisting of either sosa gvardiol erlic sutalo stanisic
Or will we see the old guard and the newer old guard like juranovic caleta
Will dalic panic and have ti throw in lovren or vida
I think Sosa and Gvardiol are a guarantee. They’re probably our biggest names in the back four right now, and Dalić recognizes that.
I don’t think Dalić ever liked Ćaleta-Car, and looked for any reason to start Lovren over him.
But Lovren is not playing at all, and now both Šutalo and Erlić are playing better than both Lovren and Ćaleta-Car.
I think Šutalo will get the start because he’s been getting a lot of media praise (both domestic and foreign) and Dinamo will also want to cash in on Šutalo. Dalić will easily be pushed by Dinamo to start him. Dalić just does things by consensus where members of the HNS, media, and fans heavily influence what he does.
I don’t mind if this happens, because I like Šutalo. Under normal circumstances, this is one of the things I hate most about Dalić though.
Juranović will probably still be our RB starter, even though Stanišić is better.
I think Bišćan will tell Dalić to give him Stanišić for the September U21 playoff. Ge might even get Šutalo from him too! Unfortunately, it would have been better for us if Stanišić got a chance to build off his France performance and established his position. But they’ll use Juranović’s crossing as a reason to start him (as we don’t have a true RW).
Fair
Thanks for your input maminjo
I agree the sutalo train can Be pushed
I feel erlic tho can be pushed off
I def want to see more of him
Sosa Gvardiol sutalo juranovic??
Quote from Greenstreethammers.com…
“If Vlasic is loaned out then his signing will most likely be deemed as a failure, however, due to him being brought in from a Russian club, West Ham won’t be paying the full £25million for him.
This is as a result of economic sanctions put on Russia following their invasion of Ukraine.”
I didn’t know that. So this is why they’re comfortable to loan him out with an option to buy.
They’re just going to skip off on paying what they owe to CSKA.
I like Nikola ever since he stepped up for us in Euro2020 qualfying…when we looked like we were in trouble and Rakitic bailed on us (and Kovacic was allergic to making a forward pass).
He, along with Petkovic, came in and put shots on goal. Direct offensive play, that we desperately needed during that campaign.
Unfortunately for Nikola, he did not make much progress since early 2021, and we just have a revolving door of talent coming in…so I don’t think he has a chance of ever being a first-team player for us (when we are at full strength).
One year ago (during the Euros) Lovro Majer was a Dinamo player (who wasn’t even called up yet) and Luka Sucic was playing in 2nd division Austria.
Just 12 months later, the two of them now are younger and already ahead of Vlasic (and have a higher ceiling).
I fully expect a couple of new names to come up the ranks in the next year or two as well (like Vidovic or Kacavenda).
It will be hard to get a callup with our depth. I expect Vlasic to get his career back on track (and still be a part of our team) but he’s no longer important.
Kacavenda is another smaller guy but he looks like he has he pace and power
Big hopes for him
I say not a good move. He’s ok but not much more than that. I say he does not have it . on the small size and just average speed. Like many sports, if your small – you better be super fast. I’ve heard him interviewed and he seems like a great guy and lots of love for Croatia but just a step slow- in the pro game, that’s enough to never be good . Good luck Gospodin Vlasic, prove me wrong.
It’s hard for me to believe that Vlasic doesn’t have the requisite raw athleticism for a skilled based sport like football when his sister was a world class elite high jumper. Is Modric “super fast”? Or super skilled?
We aren’t talking about american football here where quite frankly you can be unskilled but if you have the requisite size/speed ratio there’s plenty of positions you can play. You can’t do that in european football, ask “Ochocinco”, who was more of a joke than Michael Jordon trying to play baseball. Have you EVER heard of someone picking up the sport of soccer at 18 years old and becoming a world class soccer player?
This is great news.
Vlašić is added value in our squad.
Powerful athlete who maybe needs to shift how he trains to be a bit more explosively quick on the ball.
Modrić has always been underrated for how quick he is.
He has maintained that quickness because of how trains at Valdebas.
That extra bulk that Vlašić carries seems to let him down where it matters in the final third.
Kovačić is the gold standard for explosive quickness. Just for some reason lacks aggression in the final third?
Vlašić making a World Cup prep move here. Full respect.
I want to see him in beast mode this September.
He is plus one in my book with this move.
I was always confused when vlasic was seemingly doing so well in Russia and being player of the year. Any time with nt, i always found him rather average in several regards. Not particularly fast, not even a bull fighting for the ball which i would’ve expected, and not an overly creative midfielder. But he had one skill that seemed top notch and that was that he could get shots off that were extremely well placed and do so in tight spaces. Imagine an anti kovacic. Turns out when you win by scoring goals, this is actually a very valuable skill and i think it’s one he still has as evidenced by his shot vs France. Generally agreed though there is a lot of competition in his current form to see him as a primary option right now
brekalo is not returning, nor is Pjaca
Better than rotting on the bench at West Ham.
Will be interesting if Brekalo sticks around and they can continue their chemistry they had on the U21 team together.
They could become very good substitutes for our National Team.
There’s too much competition for Vlašić to ever claim a starting eleven spot for us again…but depth is important, and he was a very useful player for us in Euro2020 qualifying.
He could easily regain that form again at Torino.
I think it’s better than West Ham he has been struggling there. That was a big move for someone in his position, to go to West Ham. Especially from a Russian League to make his way over to the Premier League it’s a huge jump from one to the other.
This is a team where he may be able to find a way to fit in and gain some necessary skills along the way. Personally, this is just me, I think that Vlasic has a way to go before he can show that quality again and he has not been our strongest player since the Euro.
I am not suggesting that teams like Torino are not good, they are but it’s really hard for most players to take that quick leap into Premier League.
He’s still relatively young and has good athleticism in his family genes. I don’t like him as anything more than a bit player for the NT at this point, but there’s enough there to suggest he will become a competent player at a minimum if he lands in a situation that assures him minutes. Similar to what I said about Brekalo the other day, there is plenty of promise to develop there if he wants it enough, and even Perisic didn’t become a world class player until he was about 27.
Good luck Nikola
Enjoy your time in Turin

These guys are saying it’s a bad move and he deserves better quality time to show his worth
I personally would like him to play with a heavy Croat influence and Italy has been good to us the last couple of years
Looks like a good spot to regain confidence
Better then going back to split IMO
Turn it around young man
It wouldn’t hurt at all to get an in form vlasic in November
To be honest I would rather all these players, Drmic, Livaja, Orsic, move to other clubs to test their metal again. Can’t keep staying in the Croatian league forever. If they don’t move in the summer window I would hope they atleast move in the following trade window.
I understand that they have an allegiance to the club, but at the same time playing for the National Squad is more important. So player development and initiative is key.
I am really not sure why Orsic did not take the opportunity he had with that Premier League team he should have. But I feel like Diablo, Hajduk and a lot of these teams hang on to these players way too long. They should have max a year to move into another league, especially seeing as they are all 28 and over.
Dinamo not Diablo***lol
This would then push Hajduk, Dinamo, Rijeka, Osijek and other teams to develop you get talent and restructure teams. All in all it is a win win in my eyes.
Livaja is not good enough for other leagues.
Great in HNL…mediocre in the better leagues.
It’s good to have a few veterans on the team to improve the quality of the team and league.
I don’t mind having a few quality vets like Oršić, Livaja, Gavranovic (for example) if it means that they can create a league with more parity, be competitive in European competitions, and teach things to the youngsters.
None of these guys have high ceilings anyway, and I would rather our high potential kids move on to bigger leagues.
Our National Team isn’t gonna gain anything extra if Livaja is playing in the Greek league and Oršić somewhere in the Championship. Same with Petković. He’s not going to grow anymore as a player. May as well stick around.
