(During the next 30 days, starting May 10th, CroatianSports will be giving “season grades” to 30 of Croatia’s most important football players: Starting XI, bench, fringe, prospects. Grades will be given on preseason expectations vs. actual season performance; not stats.)
Day 13: Mislav Oršić
Season Grade: D
National Team: B+
Dinamo: B
Southampton: F
Season Highlight:
Game winner in Bronze medal match against Morocco
Assist in quarter-finals extra-time against Brazil
Team Next Season:
- Back to Dinamo (85%)
- Loaned out to another English club (10%)
- Stay at Southampton in the Championship (5%)
What the Future Holds:
Oršić needs to get the hell away from England. Playing just 11 total minutes of Premier League football, Oršić’s campaign in Southampton has been beyond disastrous. For whatever reason, he is not even deemed good enough to be on the squad list. Oršić should go back to Dinamo and rack up points and trophies in the HNL in order to ensure his consistent NT call-ups. Oršić missing out on the latest call-up list is a bit of a blow to the Vatreni as he has the ability to be a game-changer off the bench for Perišić.

LIVAJA, Petkovic, Sosa, Stanišić, Šutalo, Barišić
Martin Erlić, Vida, Ivica Ivušić, Labrović,
Ivanušec, Petar Musa, Dion Drena Beljo
this information is a little odd!
Orsic played 14 HNL games for Dinamo and scored 8 goals…thats a 0.57 goals per game as a left wing player like Perisic. He also played in 12 Champions League games and scored 5 goals…which is 0.42 goals/game. Orsic then gets transferred to Southampton, plays 10 minutes in the EPL and we give him an F?
In my opinion I’m not sure you grade a player unless he plays. The coach didn’t play him but the club bought him, something is really messed up in this equation.
Look, he scored against Chelsea (1 goal away and 1 goal at home), AC Milan in the group stages and also scored 3 more goals in the play-off stages. He isn’t responsible for his coaches decision not to play him after the club spends quite a large fee for him. Overall its a total shame how things ended up for him but my guess is it’ll make him hungrier!
Well maybe if he was half as good as your boy Livaja, then he could score himself an A- grade.
This whole grading system is glupost.
znamo
How come only some of the players get a season grade with a breakdown of club grade and a national team grade and then other players just get only season grade?
I know you have different writers judging but there should be a basic and consistent grading score system instead of just random rankings based on who’s writing the article or how much time they have. No basic criteria being applied to all grades
Orsic doesn’t deserve a D overall
His England attempt is at least him trying to break out of the comfort of Dinamo and he gets an F? geez
His goal against Morocco should have him pass with a C overall no matter what else happened!!!!
Right! Southampton gets an F. Orsic can’t be blamed for failing there.
11 mins ?? Did I read that right?
How can someone be a flop with 11 mins
Or was that just league play and he had some cup minutes?
If he was better he would get a lot more than 11 minutes no?
The move to England was insane. He is not that good. Nice couple of runs in the tournament but he won’t stick.
Reminds me of another one hit wonder so to speak, Fran Tudor
What about his performances in Europe?
@Z btw
It doesn’t help us
You can’t be good if you are not allowed to play, acclimatize, and make mistakes. The shear idiocy of the Southampton management is staggering.
Is he a great player? No, but he’s a damn good player if given a chance. Instead they played Walcott. Not to mention they screwed over Carleta Car too. I bet he was trying to help out his compatriot and then ending up paying the price of falling out with the couch.
