Luka Modrić might as well play for Real Madrid until he is 50.
The 38-year-old midfield star recorded another assist for Los Blancos on Wednesday, this time against Atletico Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup semifinals. Real Madrid went on to win the match 5-3 in extra time, and will face either Barcelona or Ante Budimir’s Osasuna in the final on January 14th.
Down 1-0 in the 20th minute, Modrić hit a marvelous corner into the box for Antonio Rüdiger to finish, drawing level and handing Real a boatload of momentum. Luka was later replaced by Toni Kroos in the 67th minute but still received an 8.1 FotMob match rating. Modrić now has a goal and three assists in his last four matches — a phenomenal stretch of play for someone of his age.
Nowadays, any Luka Modrić news is typically followed up with the same question — how much more does he have left in the tank?
As of Wednesday’s performance, he’s shown minimal signs of slowing down, even against some of the best competition in the world. Watching Modrić shine at the 2026 World Cup is becoming less and less of a fantasy every week. Whether he’s he’s in La Liga, Saudi Arabia, or the MLS, it’s still difficult to imagine the football world without Luka Modrić sporting the no. 10.
That would be great…. Never say never! I don’t know, if they do succeed in the Euro finals, would that than tend him to lean either way, and to which way?
My guess, I would say, if the Team looks like it is still evolving to something special, it would help him to stay on as a 2nd half substitute, to be brought in for some last-minute blue flame Modric magic.
If Dalic is out, it might make for a justified Modric break, but that might be the chicken before the egg thought, and it is the other way around. Especially if he is living in Miami, the decision would be tough. Sačekaj i vidjećeš!
I know this not first time, but Supercopa de Espana is played in Saudi Arabia. No shame at all.

Yup…they’re just following their sponsorship $money$. I wonder what happens to the oil rich mid east countries if the world stops relying on fossil fuels?
