It’s no secret many sports clubs in Croatia are not financially stable, but NK Zadar has nearly hit rock bottom in the early stages of 2016 and could be facing large penalties this week.
Reports from Vecernji List say that officials of NK Zadar will meet tomorrow to discuss their financial situation – which to put it bluntly, is not good.
The club is deep in debt and has already faced the hardships of being relegated from the first division and could easily be looking at a future of further relegation.
Zadar will decide tomorrow if it will file for bankruptcy, but consequently, they will be deducted 10 points from the Druga Liga standings if they do. The club is already struggling in the season and currently sit in last place. A 10 point deduction will feel like an automatic relegation to the third league.
But their troubles to not stop there. Much like the fate of clubs such as NK Varaždin and Šibenik, Zadar could face extreme punishment of their debt is not paid; punishment that could find themselves in the lowest division of Croatian football.
Current coach of the Croatian National Team, Ante Čačić got his start at Zadar and is unhappy about the possibility of it shutting down.
“I was there in 1989. I had my first serious coaching job, and I came back in 1996. It is not nice to hear that the club in such a difficult situation because I am very fond of Zadar,” Čačić told 24 Sata in a previous interview.
Former Zadar and Croatia coach Ćiro Blažević shares Čačić’s sentament.
“I hope that my friend, Mayor Bozidar Kalmeta, can find a solution. I believe the club will not shut down. I have spent many beautiful days there,” Blažević said.
I doubt you need to hit the powerball to buy Zadar……a shame though, especially considering my Zadar roots
Watching Las Palmas – Malaga – the announcer is pronouncing Duje Cop as Doo-Jay Cop (as in police officer). One of the better ones yet.
Buying Zadar if I win that powerball tonight.
Power ball is up to 800 Mill. Just give Zadar the few mill to get on their feet, rename it to NK Humanitarni and then take bets on how long it will take them the ruin all their good fortune again with corruption and poor business deals.
If given $100 million, who would squander it the quickest?
a. NK Humanitarni
b. jadan i mali hajduk
c. Kranjcar blowing it all on big macs
d. Corluka on prostitutes
f. Ziva paying for diaspora Hrvati to take private Croatian lessons
In other pathetic news

Yaya Toure after losing the African player of the year award:
“As I’ve been told many times, you can’t take care of Africa too much because Africa will be the first to let you down.”
Reminds of a little country I know..
they should just turn Stanovi into a grazing field for all the stoka.
much better use of the land.
Zadar for life. TORNADO
When I hit Powerball this Saturday night for 700 Million, I’m going to pay off the clubs debt, buy the best players, build a brand new stadium and have a luxury box waiting for Ziva – with wifi.
LOL…….nice one Armada.
Why would you ask people to donate money????? So, it gets misused and wasted and stolen again?
File the bankruptcy and start from the bottom. Then they can change the name from NK Bjezigrad to NK Stečaj. Remember, this is the same club that was responsible for one of their own players dying on the field.
they don’t call it ‘Bjezigrad’ for nothing, huh?
If all the people that came from Zadar, okolica i Zadarski otoci, and their descendants in San Pedro area give each $10, I think they would save Zadar. Do they care? Anybody care for Zadar’s fate?
Where are all Zadrani?
