All signs point to Ivan Perišić leaving Inter Milan this summer. Rumors have emerged that Inter have no interest in extending Perišić’s contract after the Italian club signed star left-wingback Robin Gosens from Atalanta in January. Perišić’s contract with Inter expires at the end of the season, and word on the street is that the 33 year-old legend could join Hajduk Split this summer.
Would this move be the best choice for Perišić? Absolutely!
Yes, yes, we all know that Perišić probably has enough gas left in the tank for a couple more seasons in a top-five league. Even Chelsea, the reigning European champs, believe so, as he was one of their top transfer targets this winter. Perišić is one of the few wingers in the entire world that can still compete at the highest level at his age. Wingers are not supposed to excel past the age of 31 or 32, and the same goes for most positions on the pitch. But Croatians are spoiled and have 36 year-old Luka Modrić to blame, as the Croatian captain has set an extremely high bar for his supporters and anyone who has to fill his spot on the field once the boots are hung up.
Let’s look at Perišić’s phenomenal career. He’s won the Champions League with Bayern Munich, two Bundesliga titles, four domestic German championships, a Serie A title, an Italian Super Cup, and the scoring title in Belgium in 2011. Perišić has scored in a World Cup semifinal and final and has over 100 caps for the Vatreni. He’s been a key player for every single club he’s been a part of, and has become a fan-favorite in many fanbases. Perišić has mastered and conquered the art of European football and deserves his ‘swan song’ in the city that he calls home.
Perišić deserves to end his amazing career in Split, playing for his childhood club and a city that will cherish him for ages. He would receive a hero’s entrance to Poljud, celebrated with thousands of flares, fireworks, and gracious supporters. Let the man relax and dominate the Prva Liga for half a season, before joining the Vatreni with fresh legs in Qatar with World Cup gold on his mind. After playing 15 years of professional football, a couple months of HNL action will not weaken Perišić’s abilities on the pitch. He has absolutely earned his opportunity to walk down to the Splitska Riva for a coffee right after a match at Poljud. And even better, he would have a huge chance to write history and win the Prva Liga title for Hajduk alongside Marko Livaja.
Imagine if he could add a Hajduk Split HNL title to his already robust résumé. Just imagine.
Playing for Hajduk is written in the stars for Ivan Perišić. He was born in Split and played for Hajduk’s academy for six years. He has already cemented his status as a Vatreni legend, so why not become one for the city of Split too? Perišić has nothing to lose, and deserves every last bit of love and admiration that he would receive at Hajduk.
Come home Ivan! The pieces are in place!
Sub Perišić out winning 1-0.
Lose 2-1.
He is Inter’s best player.
And they’re getting rid of him
Losers!
Don’t count Brozovic out… He does so much for Inter that cannot be ignored. He is probably more important Perisic even because he hold the midfield and defensive line together, it also showed because he wasn’t there for one of the games. He also sets tempo for the team and does plenty to set up play for the offensive line. I just wish he was now consistent for Croatia.
But yes Perisic is exceptional, and I think Bayern were wrong to let him even Lewondowski didn’t agree with letting him go. He so instrumental for Croatia in 2018! You start realize after the tourney and watching the highlight reals, he narrowly finished two games for us before they went to overtime. He was just unlucky and hit the inside post. Great player overall!
There is a lovely lil tribute some YT channel did to one of our greatest ever athletes, Ivano Balic:

Should have been an NBA point guard
I think he says in that vid he was actually training in basketball up till he was like 15 and then swapped to handball so yeah could’ve been.

Kovačić EPL goal of the month!!
These dude is entering his prime.
Late blooming nogometaš.
Were Perisic to make this move, which won’t happen, it would be massively beneficial to Hakduk. First, they would pick up a world class player. But more importantly it would show all the other players what it takes to get to and stay at the top. One doesn’t remain a stud at that age without working his ass off in the gym, preparing properly mentally, getting good rest, etc. His impact might be greater off the field than on it.
Hajduk needs to further develop their youth, so they are strong enough to win a HNL title.
Once they do… They will be able to offer veteran National Team players (who would love to wind down in Croatia) the opportunity to play in a league that is not as demanding…yet you still get Champions League football.
Perisic should not go to hajduk until he is fully washed up. This always sounds like a cute idea but it’s better when you envision hajduk vs dinamo or in some euro league match rather than what takes up most of the hajduk time… and that’s games like away to varazdin in January in front of 1000 fans
Thanks but no thanks
If I’m perisic i ride out in the true Leagues as long as i can
Would love to see him and others with careers coming the end joining teams in the HNL.
On another note, Juranovic was immense this morning for Celtic. Could easily make a claim for MOTM. Barisic on the other hand was awful and subbed out at half time.
Juranovic’s number is 88 in Celtic, not 33 | :_(
I think Atalanta would be a good fit for him.
A combination of veterans and young talent is good for a club.
I don’t really like the veterans that Hajduk has, as many of them are overpaid and untalented (many coming from weaker leagues).
I would like Perišić to join Hajduk…but he would waste his remaining years there being the ONLY quality veteran.
If Hajduk could coordinate the signing of several veteran players (whose careers are winding down at the same time) to play alongside our most talented youth…then THAT would be good.
Imagine having Perišić, Vrsaljko, and Džeko (big Hajduk fan) paired with Biuk, Brkljača, Ljubičić, etc.
I’d scrap all those bums like Fossati, Melnjak, Kačaniklić, etc…who are probably paid too much anyway, and I would pool that money to pay one excellent player.
It’s easier said than done, and beggars can’t be choosers…so I can’t blame Hajduk for not being able to score quality former national team players (and only getting the career-finished Subašić types).
But for every Perišić that comes in… Hajduk needs to scrap two Fossatis.
Can’t have the youth nailed to the bench.
Inter are absolutely bonkers for not offering him a new contract. I watched many Inter games this season, and Perišić has been one of their most valuable players. He gives 100% effort offensively and defensively. Dzeko wouldn’t be scoring fuck all without Ivan’s constant pressing, and his many, many crosses.
Perišić is easily the most underappreciated player in Europe.
Even in terms of National Team play, Perišić has been just as valuable for us as Modrić has been.
He was better than Modrić in WC2014…But they were about the same in every tournament after that.
We’re lucky to have insane depth on that left side right now to help replace what Perišić brings…but we’ll miss that scoring instinct of his, where he just scores goals out of nowhere.
Would a great fantasy nostalgia move but won’t happen. He is playing fantastic football for the best team in Italy and is valued by his teammates, coaches, and fans. I believe the parties will figure a way to sign him for another year or 2. If not, then the Premier League.
He plays against Milan this weekend and then Liverpool in Champions League a couple of weeks later, and then the World Cup. Think he’ll make the jump the following season to playing against Slaven Belupo?
Perisic looks like he still wants to do more. He has a champion’s mentality. Never quit. He should sign with a bona fide Champions league team for 3 years and after that play for Hajduk until he is 40.
Bog i Hrvati
2022 world cup a send off form national team as a hajduk player would be nice thing i dont see him coming to hajduk as he is 33 but built like a beast so he has 2 3 years left at top level if he came to hnl now i see him as a dominant player like orisic at dinamo but better
I’m all for it. Perisic has nothing left to prove at 33 years old. Today (February 2nd) is his birthday.
He helped Inter dethrone Juve. He helped Bayern pick up the CL crown two years ago on loan. He scored two of Croatia’s biggest goals in history at the World Cup. He’s done it all.
It would be fun to see him play for Hajduk and give Dinamo a run for their money. Why not?
He would throttle back on some mileage he would otherwise pick up in a top-4 league. Dodi doma Ivane!
I don’t think it’s a terrible idea at all but do you think bringing the older guys Back is robbing some of the youth development?
I’m thinking he can still play somewhere else for a couple years do this at 35 and call it quits
But on the other hand
Ya he will stay fit, I believe his game rises when stakes get bigger and maybe a few chill months doing his step over in split will do a body good
Regardless I do think luka and Ivan come in more balls to the wall then ever in Qatar
Let’s just hope Lukas body takes the load with Real well
At least he will have some time off in summer
hasn’t won a world cup- ajmo decki -mi smo privaci
