The ageless Australian-born Croat, Anthony Perosh, has been booked to compete at UFC 149 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Perosh’s opponent will be MFC veteran and UFC newcomer Ryan Jimmo ( 16-1 MMA). The event will take place July 21st at Calgary’s Scotia Bank Saddledome. The Croatian will look to build on his current 3-fight win streak in the UFC and Jimmo will look to get a win in his first UFC outing.
Ryan Jimmo uses his strong wrestling background to keep the fight standing and is very difficult to get to the ground. The ground game is Perosh’s bread and butter and he will need to be crafty in this fight if he intends to take Jimmo to the mat. Anthony’s experience in the big shows and superior BJJ can not be overlooked in this bout. I predict a hard fought second round submission for the 39 year-old Croat.
It is not known at this time whether this fight will make the main card or not.
Look for pre-fight interviews in the up coming weeks with Igor Pokrajac and Stipe Miocic.

Sport popularity is not the issue or the point here and speaking from someone that knows about concussions being nonchalant about it is not the way to go either. There is a bigger picture here and more at stake than anyone can imagine which is going to change the landscape of the “physical” sports genre two fold. Variables do exist that make issues more or less intrinsic or more or less palpable. Ethics and capitalism will have to do battle going forward and will affect our sports culture and product we see on the field, ice and ring regardless of the sport. A very interesting area of study.
The last person that needs any explanation on “North American” football and how it is played is I. Played the game @ an extremely high level and I coach to this day but that is not the point. The point is the game is going to change very soon whether you and I like it or not. It is only a matter of when it will occur. A tie in to the concussion issue is the New Orleans Saints scandal. They are not alone in what transpired I assure you but they have to start bringing respectability back to the physical game as well and that includes hockey as they have very little respect for each other out there and with the New Orleans scandal it pretty much sealed the deal on the respect factor. There is a difference between the physical game and being tough and what the NO scandal represents. I realize other teams do this as well but it does not make it fair or the right thing to do because of this. Am I asking to change any of these sports into tidily wings? Not a chance, but the issue of concussions needs to be addressed going forward as too many really bad events are occurring and occurring rapidly.
There is a whirlwind of change coming due to the influx of lawsuits that are on the way. That you can count on.
Sorry Mike for going off topic in your discussion area. What is your take on how this is going to affect the MMA in the future?
An interesting MMA article discussing the concussion issue and the future of the sport.

Concussions are concussions it sucks but its the nature of sports. I can rest assure you that american football is a million times more exciting and more popular than soccer.
@Ante Kvartuc
Nicely stated.
Actually there are many cases coming out from concussions in soccer. Much more than you would think and the numbers are rising. Not as dangerous a sport than football, hockey, or MMA but in regards to the concussion/CTE the rate is high believe it or not due to the headers.

There is going to be a barrage of lawsuits on the way in the NFL and hockey for sure and it has already started!
http://tinyurl.com/c4wdlx8 – Ex-Cowboys sue over concussions – That is just the beginning and now the Junior Seau suicide on top of that.
http://tinyurl.com/4um4ra3 – Chronic traumatic encephalopathy – As of right now the only way to test for CTE is through a biopsy.
“In 2008, the Sports Legacy Institute joined with the Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM) to form the Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy (CSTE).”
Watched a very good documentary on the BUSM and the CSTE program. They said that hopefully soon they will be able to test the brain for CTE without the biopsy.
Hockey had a few suicides during it’s off season as well. – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvEnDQyVNwY
As soon as the lawsuits come piling in, and they will, fighting will be banned completely in hockey. It is just a matter of time. In the documentary about the BUSM program they talked about Bob Probert’s brain and how CTE was the culprit to issues he was having.
Move over football, MMA and hockey and get ready for a makeover of the rules pertaining to how the sport is played. There will be a night and day difference due to the lawsuits and the future health of the players and participants.
@ Mihovil
You can have an arguement for concussions in any contact sport. Injuries will occur. This isn’t chess.
But soccer is nowhere near as dangerous as MMA and American football. Yes, you will have the occasional Twellman or Petr Cech injury, but at least soccer players aren’t using their bodies as projectiles like in the NFL.
If this league is going to continue for another 50 years, look for helmets to be outlawed in the next few seasons. Look at rugby, no one leads with there head. All body to body contact. Much less concussions.
Also, as medical technology progresses, we can begin to nit pick injuries to really see what’s going on. 50 years ago everything was a headache.
Here’s an Advil. Now buck up and get back up there.
Just pay attention to what Seau’s brain uncovers for us….
An NFL insider told be that his brain will come out like an 85 year-old’s and the NFL is f’d. If they don’t figure something out, sponsors will start pulling and bye-bye NFL.

Funny you should say that MMA is on the decline. The NFL is currently F’d now because of this Junior Seau suicide. This is the third ex-football player to kill himself in the past 18 months. Concussions and heavy hits to the head cause depression. It’s a scientific fact. It will be interesting to see how the current crop of MMA legends fair in the next few years with the beatings they have taken in their careers.
@Mike Rozic, this sport won’t get bigger than it is right now; I predict it will decline just like boxing did, except in a much shorter time span. Anyway, this sport isn’t like the triathalon; if your strength is striking, you shouldn’t waste time trying to cover up your weaknesses, you should concentrate your strengths.
Peros is going to get knocked out in the first round
