HNK Rijeka enacted a bit of revenge on NK Lokomotiva on Saturday by lifting the Croatia Cup as champions for the sixth time.
Lokomotiva was a thorn in Rijeka’s side all season, garnering two draws and a win over Rijeka in their efforts to clinch second place, but Rijkea were able to turn the tables and defeat Lokomotiva for the first time in five meetings.
Tibor Halilović scored the match’s only goal in the 76th minute to give Rijeka the 1-0 lead that it would hold until the final whistle.
The trophy did not come easy for Rijeka. Lokomotiva looked dangerous throughout the match, creating chances and striking the post twice.
Rijeka’s Franko Andrijašević was a casualty to the action and was transferred to a Šibenik hospital after suffering a head injury. He was later declared to have a mild concussion and returned to join his teammates.
While trophies were being awarded, a different kind of glory was also being fought for at the former residence of Rijeka.
Stadion Kantrida hosted NK Orijent and NK Istra 1961 in the promotion/relegation playoff match. Kantrida will be home to Orijent in the event they are promoted to the prva liga.
However that seems unlikely after NK Istra defeated the second-division side 3-0. Šime Gržan scored twice, opening the scoring in the eighth minute and again in the second half against a 10-men Orijent after Benjamin Ivančević was sent off in the 23rd minute.
The 90th minute saw red cards issued to each team, creating a 9 vs. 10 situation which played to the advantage of Istra who scored a third goal in the 94th minute.
The second leg of the match will take place in Pula on Wednesday.
Rijeka would just have to be croatias 4th city in the pecking order and really the one that nobody gives a shit about because of its communist and internationalist stance
Sydney was a great until it became international after the 2000 olympics
Now it’s swamped by Asians who stick to themselves
Hardly feels international to most sydneysiders
Rijeka is 100% communist. Communists are atheists. The patron Saint of Rijeka is Saint Vitus. Croats in Rijeka are a stain on our history. Does believing that make me more or less Croatian?
Fascist Italians wanted to a tried (and did for quite a few years) to make Rijeka part of Italy and Italian. Some surely still do. Many Croatians fought and died to ensure Rijeka is Rijeka and Croatian, and not Fiume and Italian. Referring to the city by the name of these attempted conquerors use for it makes you “international”? Is this something like black people calling each other the N-word?
You can try all you want, but cringing at this is NOT an example of who the biggest Croat is game.
@Suba
Usually those international/cosmopolitan cities are the hubs for commerce, industry, entertainment, media, finance, etc. NYC, LA, Chicago, London, Toronto, Singapore, Sydney, Dubai, etc. last time I checked, all those cities are doing pretty well for themselves. Not perfect, but people continue to move to them, companies continuously are based in these large cosmopolitan cities.
People can comment on “Forza Fiume” all they want. I think the idiots who are the bearers of what is Croatian vs. what is not because of a football chant is ridiculous? So with this logic i.e. what makes someone Croatian or not…
If you’re one of those that are “Dalmatian first, Croatian second” does that make you less Croatian?
If you’re one of those a few years back that boycotted the NT, does that make you less Croatian?
If you live in northern Baranja close to the Hungarian border and are bilingual Hungarian/Croatian, does that make you less Croatian?
If you think the NDH was a stain on our history, does that make you less Croatian?
I bet all you strucnjaci have ALL the answers with those questions. In mamas basement in Cleveland….
@ Regarding Rijeka being an international city
Seems like being a cosmopolitan, international city worked out well for Rijeka and the Kvarner region financially. We typically are top 2-3 in GDP in terms of all the zupanije. We have some industry, pretty strong tourism industry.
In terms of demographics, we’re more diverse than most large Croatian cities. I guess I’m use to it and like it, being both of my parents are from the region and I grew up in NYC. I’m still a proud Hrvat – most Rijecani are…. And no one has ever claimed for a nanosecond that Rijeka is purely a Croatian city.
But lets not get it twisted too, close to 90% of the population is Croatian. The other minorities are minuscule. Some of you assholes make Rijeka this huge Italian population and culture. NEWSFLASH DIPSHITS, there’s WAYYYYYYYY more Serbs in Rijeka than Italians.
And yes, Rijeka isn’t 99% Croatian like the shithole selo your baba and dida in Dalmacija/Hercegovina/Lika are from. But again, I don’t need you clowns, who have their history twisted, to tell me what Rijeka is and isn’t.
“Forza Fiume” is the Armada’s way of paying respect to the Italian turncoats that live in the region.
Typical always blaming the dalmatinci for juga
Oh don’t worry I can read between the lines too just by taking in the tone of the delivery
I am glad Rijeka is An international city but hey how is internationalism working out for the rest of the world at the moment
I can think of two other international cities Mostar and Jerusalem
Real successes there
So sorry trying to claim Rijeka as a purely Croatian city otherwise even the Austrians would have a claim to it too
@ARMADA87
“shouldn’t comment on what’s “Croatian” and what’s not.”
But “Forza Fiume” isn’t Croatian, why can’t people comment on that if they want?
“I bet he doesn’t have the jaje to go to a bunch of Armada in the middle of korzo and say that to him.”
I don’t think one person would go up to a bunch of Armada and say that to them, that would be stupid, but how many Italians did it take to make the pussy Armada chant “Forza Fiume”?
Not helping yourself by quoting Pizda Istina.
I vote cringy. It would be along the lines of a bunch of supporters, many of them Christian, cheering for a team in Istanbul by calling it Constantinople. How would that go over in the rest of Turkey?
When did I say you couldn’t, Suba?
My overall point of the post (reading comprehension not Suba’s forte; check) was people (especially dijaspora, which most of us are) shouldn’t comment on what’s “Croatian” and what’s not i.e. Rijecani who speak Italian or reference an Italian saying.
My comment was geared more towards the putz who claimed saying forza fiume is cringy. I bet he doesn’t have the jaje to go to a bunch of Armada in the middle of korzo and say that to him.
Rijecka is 86% cro .106000 identify as cro..and other nationalities there tourist or not ..are still croatian citizens just like Londonistan..or paris with other nationalities. The eu is reluctant to change any more borders..so people who reside in rijecka and don’t speak cro are still cro whether they like it or not.I’m canadian born ..so I’m canadian but speak croatian..doesn’t mean a bunch of us immigrated hrvats are gona take a chunk off the Canadian map.,just like rijecka..if other nationals in rijecka don’t like us cros..they can go back to serb ita hungary germany whatever.
So if you are second generation you can’t comment on Croatian history period
That’s an interesting viewpoint I must say
Sounds like history revisionism going on here
Especially those 2nd and 3rd generation dijaspora that go to Croatia once every 5 years and they have trouble ordering drinks at the kafic (as ziva would say…)
THOSE types are the authority on all things Croatian, know the most about our nogomet, etc.
Holy shit, they rounded up all the morons on CSR for one thread.
Some of you clowns have no idea about the history of Rijeka (and the greater Kvarner region) or it’s status as a more cosmopolitan type city compared to some of our other cities.
We’re proud Croats (apparently not as proud as some dipshits on this thread…) with many of us being bilingual (typically a positive in real life) and don’t need some jerkoff, 2nd generation dijaspora in USA/Canada/Australia from Dalmacija or wherever telling us what’s “Croatian” and what is not.
But I forgot, those 2nd and 3rd generation dijaspora are REAL HRVATI How could I forget!!!
…………….
Thank you Suba. Well said. Dalmatinci gave us Yugoslavia. All that support for Tito really worked out for them. You moron.
Once Rijeka ceases to be a Croatian city it then either becomes a Slovene or an Italian city
I can assure you that the UN would prevent that to ensue it remains as an international city
You mock the dalmatinci but without us Rijeka remains as Fiume
Be careful what you promote
Well said anon
Call out the bullshit
@Soul Champ
I recall you and @Slavonac from Canada hanging shit on the character of Nikola Kalinic to make yourselves feel like “veliki Hrvati,” remember that?
Instead of “veliki Hrvati,” why not say “dobri Hrvati”?
“Inferiority complex is a term used to describe people who compensate for feelings of inferiority (feeling like they’re less than other people, not as good as others, worthless, etc.) by acting in ways that make them appear superior. … An inferiority complex may cause an individual to overcompensate for his weaknesses.”
Flavour? Is that spa lingo?
Ah .. the veliki Hrvati in the house!!
Rijeka is an international city period.
“Cringe” at hearing another language?
Croatian language is the best and there happens to be 7 billion other people on the planet that Croatians need to be aware of.
Or we can pretend we live in cave?
We are Croatian and we have different flavors over the years and Italian is one of them.
Forza Fiume i boli mi kurac !!
Well done to your great grandfather
None of this Italian shit I say

My grandfather came home speaking Italian once and his dad smaced the shit out of him. In our house, we speak croatian. Where he was living, he learned it in school.
Never heard anyone say that bz. Cringy because we have a beautiful language and we have to resort to using Italian. Fuck that
Cringy, you say. How?
Some would say using the word cringy is cringy.
Brekalo ready to bust a slump vs Shaktar.
Perisic ready to teach Kova how to progress in big time soccer.
Modric gonna flip the script vs Man City. #FlipModricSquad
Saying forza fiume is the epitome of cringy
@Maminjo
Sibenik at Subicevac.
Forza Fiume !!
They will do well in the Europa League qualifying.
Make a little extra money.
They need to take that youth academy to a new level and start producing some legit footballers that can perform now and be sold for some real coin.
When is that new stadion gonna be ready?
Rijeka needs to make another run at HNL this season.
Were they playing in Split or something?
Dalmatinci we’re trying to be slick and shut the lights off as we lifted the cup.
I see you.
