Not the start Rijeka were looking for in their return to Champions League qualifying…but also not the end of the world either. The newly crowned Croatian champions kicked off their European season Tuesday night in Rijeka against Bulgarian champs Ludogorets Razgrad in the 2nd round of qualifying. The match ended 0-0 with both clubs having their chances but you would have thought Rijeka could bag a goal on home soil before their 2nd leg match in Bulgaria July 30th.
Fruk had the best chances for Rijeka throughout the match but simply could not get one to finish. It looked as he was taking just too much time in the box on every attempt. Let’s see what happens next week.
It would be really disappointing if Rijeka bounced out of qualifying in the 2nd Round after what Dinamo did last year in the main group phase.
I was at this game. Rijeka played well, they just didn’t finish chances. Fruk and Jankovic are definitely the ones carrying the attack and creativity. It’s unfortunate they don’t have a decent striker and keep playing Fruk up there.
They are going to lose Fruk and probably Jankovic as soon as they are done with qualifiers for Europe. Hopefully they pull out a result next week. I think they at least make Conference League if they get past Ludogorets.
Baturina becoming best friends with ante coric
Baturina on bench
He’s not even good enough to start for Como in a pre-season friendly
Sad
I guess you missed the Italian media report after the game. Baturina and Niko Paz came on in the 60 minute and changed the game. Baturina had a shot off the post a nice pass that lead to a goal which was ruled offside. Italian media was very happy with Baturina debut.
1-1 final. Hopefully Hajduk can pull it off in Split.
Hajduk losing 1-0 at the half
MASSIVE Vuskovic CB competition update
Just in – Ashley Phillips loaned out again to Stoke !!!
Reminder, Dorrington was loaned out last week to Aberdeen
Best possible start to pre-season for Luka !!!!!
That’s two down – only 7 CBs left – next in line/pecking order is new boy Kotai (who can’t speak English and was only bought for gbp 5m) and Ben Davies (worst case he stays for another year, before becoming a coach, but he could possibly move)
The 7: Luka, Romero, Micky, Danso, Dragusin (out till Dec/Jan ACL), Ben Davies, and Kota – but keep in mind Dragusin out till Dec/Jan – so that’s 6
Spurs need 6 CBs thru end of December – as they will be playing in 4 competition
So Luka’s chance to stay with the first team, just increased meaningfully, BUT BUT BUT there is always chance Spurs buys another CB/defender during the window – so nothing is done yet
Two friendlies coming up Saturday.
Too bad. Rijeka played well for most of the game, but just couldn’t finish. The “bugars” have already started their season, so they have a slight advantage in match form. I feel like Rijeka could have won this convincingly if they were in the 2nd or 3rd week of the season. Hopefully they can pull off an away win next week. I believe they will guarantee at least a conference league spot if they advance to the next round.
Tottenham have added a 2nd friendly this Saturday 26th
Wycombe 06:00 EDT
Luton 10:00 EDT
