Croatia U-21 international Mario Vušković could be on his way to the Premier League!
Sky Sport Germany and Talking Wolves report that Wolverhampton F.C. are very interested in signing Vušković from 2. Bundesliga side Hamburger SV. Hamburger would most likely only accept an offer of more than 10 million Euros for the 20 year-old central defender. Despite rumored interest from three other Bundesliga sides, Wolverhampton seems to be the most likely destination point for Vušković this summer.
After a rough season defensively, it is obvious that Wolves are searching to strengthen their back line. Vušković would likely slot right into the club’s starting XI if the transfer goes through. Last season with Hamburger, he averaged a solid 7.07 match rating in league play, scoring and assisting once in 24 appearances. He averaged the third highest “accurate pass per game” rate in the 2. Bundesliga and was included in the league’s “team of the week” twice. Vušković stands 1.89 meters tall (6’2) and has featured for Croatia’s U-21 squad on 13 occasions, scoring twice.
A move to the Premier League could also book Vušković a ticket to Qatar for the World Cup if he performs well against the world’s finest competition. Croatia’s future in the defensive third of the pitch looks extraordinarily bright – Gvardiol, Šutalo, Erlić, Sosa, and Stanišić, and now the Vušković brothers are making a name for themselves as well.
Some kid won junior Wimbledon
Maybe the next for Croatian men’s tennis??
Yes, Mili Poljičak won Wimbledon.
Also, Petra Marčinko won the junior Grand Slam title at Australian Open a few months ago. Though it looks like she didn’t take part in junior girls’ Wimbledon this year.
Oh, she decided to go and play in an ITF tournament in Italy. She beat the 278th ranked tennis player. Then lost to the 165th ranked Dalila Jakupovic (who is almost double her age).
Good showing for a 16 year old kid.
Wow! Haven’t seen him play, but he is a beefy boy. With that physique, I would expect knee issues early in his professional career. Hopefully this is just baby fat and he will lean out.
https://www.croatiaweek.com/rising-croatian-teenage-tennis-star-mili-poljicak-to-jump-900-places-up-atp-rankings-after-reaching-zagreb-open-final/
Looks like he was raised on a diet of prsut, kulen, and palacinke.
Watched the kid play all his matches from round 2 to Final. He does not look like a tennis player physically ? he is chubby and overweight. The English commentators were joking and suggesting that he would make a good Rugby player. Agree with them he needs to shed some kilos , however he has all the shots. His movement around the court is OK but would be even better with loss of some weight ( 5-10 kg).
His biggest problem is his antics on court. Every time he made a mistake he would turn to his supporter box and talk to them loudly. Also when ever making a good shot he would interact with the crowd asking for cheers and clapping. Majority of the crowd did not like this. Being Dalmatinac he also swears a lot. With his on court antics he reminds me a bit of Kyrigos. Someone needs to talk to him before it is too late, otherwise the crowds will turn against him.
He has turned 18 now and needs to start playing with the big boys.
We’ll see if he is able to transition successfully from juniors to seniors ??
I hope he does, but only time will tell – in tennis terms that is 2-3 years.
“The English commentators were joking and suggesting that he would make a good Rugby player.”
Each sport typically has an optimal body type and will therefore attract athletes with those body types, the physical action of the sport and training for the sport further hone the particular body type. Tennis is a skilled based sport but if you look at Djokovic, he’s faster and quicker than your average 6’2 tennis player but he also has a larger wing span than most 6’2 men so he can really cover a lot of the court based on those physical attributes alone.
“With his on court antics he reminds me a bit of Kyrigos. Someone needs to talk to him before it is too late”.
Berating your own support system, your own people especially for no good reason in front of the world is not cool at all, to put them in that position is extremely uncool. But what would you expect from a guy who wears his hat backwards with the bill tipped up? He’s an arrogant punk.
Lots of talk online about how kalinic did so well
Do we give him time leading up to Qatar
It’s not like we can honestly say liva didn’t suck just as hard at times
Unpopular opinion
Ivusic/kalinic
Liva
I don’t know where you put grbic currently
Does the Croatian government endorse NATO mudsharkism or Russian pro-Aryan sentiment?
ANTE my “brother” you suppressed my free speech. I speak for our own race in a time when white genocide was fashionable. YOU better watch it bro.
Time to get a few body guards Ante this guy means business 🤣
Pero, I’m glad you can see the humor but I just want to make sure you know I don’t mean it that way.
I’m going to explain to you how real power works: a prominent liberal magazine called ‘The Atlantic’ wrote an article in Nov ’21 about Trump and white nationalism and acknowledged “The Swarm” who are essentially today’s version of Samizdat, while calling us “white supremacists” they publicized our message. They didn’t get our message completely accurate but this is a process. This is a REAL war you are completely oblivious of in the same exact way most people who lived under Soviet rule had no clue about Samizdat before they brought down a gigantic empire.
Oh be quiet
LOL! Power belongs to those who won’t shut up. What’s sad is that you don’t say that to people who will be buried under the mountainous pile horse#### that spews from their own mouths daily.
Kalinic>Livakovic
You saying this because of the Supercup match today?
Didn’t watch. Anything interesting?
robert ljubicic has potential to be a really good player
Watched the match, Hajduk slightly the better team in the first half, hit the bar. Second half Dinamo totally dominant. Lovre Kalinic made some great saves for Hajduk in the second half and if he can keep this form he will be going to Qatar.
The bad news for us Hajduk fans is that Dinamo looked the goods. Their squad has the depth and unless some of their better players leave the club during this transfer window I cannot see Dinamo missing out on another championship.
Don’t worry.
I hear Perisic is coming to Hajduk.
Looks like none of our players are moving anywhere this summer. While that’s a bit boring for us during this break, itsprobably a good thing with the world cup starting in November mid season.
I have a feeling that a lot of transfer activity may be pushed back to the January window, just because of the World Cup coming up.
Lol. I like your faith soulchamp! I want to believe you, really I do, but at this point I’m leaning towards crobro’s prediction…
There are loads of players who just cannot deal with the reality of top level competition and professionalism. From every country. Some of them get much further than halilovic then just disappear. Jack wilshere? The guy was a star player in the premiership and then just melted away.
What most worrying for me is not even halilovic’s attitude or career choices, its that everytime I see him at a new club his technique and skills have got WORSE. Like he is actually not even developing his skills in training.
I will look out for him this season at rijeka. If he doesnt tear up HNL then he is done
I would love to see him rise from the ashes but he’s COOKED 🍖
He was hero worshipped due to everyone’s love affair with YOUTH
Youngest player to score and participate in HNL,youngest participant in champions league or one of the youngest?Remember a lot of the time “youth is wasted on the young!”just look at the place you work and all the lazy pot smoking gamers they are hiring!
Alen is a one trick feign right go left pony who has lost his quickness put on some weight and at 5’7” you’re done if your quickness fades!
That’s why sucic will succeed …tall strong 6’2” with a cannon and looks to be even faster & quicker than alen with the ball ⚽️
Sucic is definitely a far more solid prospect but a very different player to alen. Alens strength was/is his dribbling. Sucic is more of a playmaker. We always lack players who can beat defenders in the last third and score or assist. That’s why it’s such a shame about pjaca and alen. They both had that and if they had come through we would be absolutely smashing teams now
My rule is not to write off any nogometaš before 28.
Alen Halilovic just turned 26 in June.
I saw his quality in La Liga before a tough ankle injury.
I still see him as our best option at RW.
Especially with a stud RB who can overlap when he cuts inside.
I hope he settles into Rijeka and tears up the HNL.
He has two years to put his career on track.
There is still magic in that left foot.
I have more hope that Houdini will come back from the dead to conjure up magic than halilovic?
He’s done and I say he won’t even be starting for Rijeka mid season after having a “falling out!” With the coach and organization.
Alen Halilovic just signed with Rijeka. He lives, lol.
Who would’ve guessed that Tibor Halilović was the best footballer in the family.
Tibor starts and scores goals for Heerenveen in the Dutch League.
Alen couldn’t even do that at Reading.
He definitely fell through. But I think it’s a case of too much too soon. Many have said his dad was a terrible influence on him, pushing him to go to higher leagues far too soon. Even while he was at Barcelona in league two they were not following the advice of Barcelona staff and trainers. Often they were falling out of line with them. It tells you something when you build expectations too high and think you are better than what you actually are at the time. If maybe he was around the right people he could have very well turned into that kind of player but I guess we will never know.
As a Croatian, I wish the best for every player that represents us but sometimes it just isn’t meant to be.
I never liked him.
He was a selfish player on the field, and had a bit of a primma donna attitude. Didn’t run back ever, and was easily pushed off the ball (and always looking for the foul). It’s not the type of football that is successful these days.
Also, he’s half Bosniak (which is fine) but he obviously had a lack of Croatian pride in every interview I’ve seen of his. Always pumping up Bosna, and talking up all of his Bosnjaci teammates as his closest pals…even the ones twice his age, lol. FK Sarajevo being his favorite team growing up (wtf?). He very likely identified more closely as a Bosnjak (despite being half Croatian and born and raised entirely in Croatia). He likely wanted to play for BiH, but Mamic wanted no part of that and forced his hand into playing for Cro so he could be sold as the next Luka.
Love ❤️ Josip Stanisic’s attitude
Instead of backing away on loan somewhere from tough Bayern competition
He’s staying to fight for minutes , believing fully in himself
Lfg ✊️🇭🇷
Super positive attitude. This kid has the makings of a leader of the repka

“Veliki Žuti” in the headlines as well. Robert Prosinečki was fired from olimpija (Slovenija) but their ultras still support him. They chased out the new coach in his first press conference:

Yo .. don’t get me going about what a beast forward Alen Boksic was!!
Two footed explosive forward that finished everything.
I like that we are cultivating more and more mangers across Europe.
It gives our boys more places to develop.
T – 5 months .. the next run begins!!
https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2022/igor-tudor-says-he-is-ready-for-om-as-a-challenge-as-well-as-an-opportunity-in-first-press-conference/
Haven’t seen anyone mention this yet. I hear he’s a hot head, but this is interesting. If he succeeds here…….
Tudor seems to be talented, but he’s also a bit too emotional to be
a coach too.
He suddenly bailed on Hajduk in 2015 right after the winter break preparations ended, and there was some similar drama in Turkey (which may or may not have been his fault). He was fired at PAOK because he was a little too vocal about not getting the players he wanted, and he also had some sort of up and down relationship at Udinese too.
His results in Turkey and Italy were very good though.
Not surprised to see Marseilles pick him up. They had that bum Sampaioli there before, so it’s not like Tudor has big shoes to fill.
This is a great opportunity for Tudor to show what he can do now that he has a decent team, and with Champions League football too.
I think its a good move. He’s clearly strong and talented. Perhaps he should stay at hsmburganother year but always good to hear our players linked with transfers to top 5 leagues.
Speaking of which, I’m very surprised no one has bid for sutalo or erlic after their impressive debuts? Anyone have any info on that? Erlic definitely looks good enough to upgrade beyond spezia. Sutalo isapotentially worldclass CB and could definitely play as a starting XI CB for a club just below top level. Dortmund, tottenham, arsenal, west ham, Lazio, Roma etc. Where are the bids???
Dinamo wants minimum 15 million Euro for Josip Sutalo.
Their goal is to sell both Sutalo and Ivanusec for an amount between 25 to 30 million Euro.
Nice. 15 mill is peanuts for sutalo
It’s tough for HNL players to top 15-20 million.
Gvardiol only went for 16M and Olmo went for 19M…
But there were crazy add-ons which will probably double their final transfer fee for Dinamo.
Something similar will probably be the case for Šutalo.
Vusko ide Vukovima, sudbina mozda.
Noooooo Mario
Don’t don’t it
Think long term
Going to Wolves would be big mistake for Vuskovic. He is not ready for EPL and is likely to sit on the bench or be loaned out to a smaller club. The same thing happened to Benkovic. At 20, it is critical for his development that he plays regularly. I think he should stay at HSV for another year or so. As far as him going to the WC ? chance of that happening are pretty slim. Dalic has 5 or 6 central defenders that are ahead of Vuskovic on the list.
Leicester were a far better team than Wolves though.
Benkovic was also constantly injured, and I think he just isn’t into football. It was probably a mentality issue with him. The guy can’t seem to nail down a starting spot, no matter what team he plays for.
However, Vuskovic won’t make the cut for our World Cup squad anyway…so he should think long term with his decision.
Not a big fan of EPL anyway for our players.
I would say it depends on the player and on the team in EPL. But yeah it is a tough league, no doubt. Vlasic, isn’t a strong player yet so that move to West Ham was a big error on his part. But Kovacic is flourishing in Chelsea, arguably with the player that Perisic is he will probably do just as well with the Spurs, especially given who the coach is. So these moves to EPL are not all that bad. This could workout for Vuskovic.
https://www.index.hr/sport/clanak/otac-marka-brkljace-u-hajduku-rade-zvijeri-evo-koliko-su-nam-nudili-za-ugovor/2376904.aspx
Ouch.
Dinamo poaches another talented Dalmatinac.
As a Hajduk fan, no great loss. Brkljaca is overrated as many of our youth players are. He never stood out in any of the matches that I watched him play for our National U17 side. Good luck to the kid, I hope he makes it.
Still.
He’s a starting player for the U19 team (as a 17 year-old) and they let him go for nothing.
Not sure what his salary demands were, but he was still considered a quality youth player (from foreign sports news outlets). If Dinamo were willing to pay him, then it was probably a good decision since I definitely trust their scouting more than Hajduk’s. I’m sure even if he is some overhyped prospect, you know that Dinamo will still sell him for a profit.
Watched FIFA doc a couple times this weekend … suze.
@ Ziva
You have always been so lucid about your Kosarku commentary.
Full forgiveness from the entire dijaspora for calling Luka Modrić a bust.
This not a moral failing to make this mistake as your cynicism clouded your srce.
Now Hezonja deserves that Ziva bust moniker.
Dude had all the talent in the world and allowed his weak ego to crush his NBA dreams.
He lacked the Self confidence to create a vision for himself. He also was a swinging door – no handle. Which is pretty sad considering you a perimeter player. At the end they played him as stretch 4.
Šarić had all the game but probably was doing back squats and got his power stuck in his ass and not lower legs.
He got heavy for his frame and the knee gave out.
Šarić actually had a yo – yo handle.
Not sure why our boys games have so many holes in them?
Bogdanović is complete but not a star.
How is it possible that our players from 30 years ago were more athletic?
Kukoč could dunk from the foul line with TWO HANDS!!
Forget about his agility and his playmaking skills.
Posterized both Ewing and Mourning in their primes multiple times.
Even when healthy 7 foot bender could barely dunk and certainly not in traffic over people.
Jebi ga.
T – minus 5 months to Qatar.
Soul Champ… Half the time dude I have no idea what your talking about. Kukoc can drink with two hands…??? WTF lol. Power stuck in his ass and not lower legs…lol Does anyone have a legitimate response to that? I am sure there are valid thoughts in there but you have to work better on that delivery man, seriously.
Not trying to invoke any racial convo at all cause we all know HAET will come out
But I saw a picture of the u23 France internationals
Every single guy was definitely not white
And it’s not about that at all
But I’m proud of how we hold our own with yes some diaspora but quite true Croatian genetics
I’m proud that we didn’t participate in the abhorrent practices of slave trading and colonialism that most of the traditional football super powers are still benefitting from to this day. It makes me even prouder when we beat those countries, because it’s like our little nation vs the best players from 4-5 other nations.
From the other perspective, I suppose the allure of playing for a perennial contender is large, but I’d like to think that if I was from one of those pillaged nations, I’d want to beat Spain, France, Portugal, England, etc even more. Perhaps I’m petty that way, or perhaps enough generations have passed. I dunno.
To circle back on some hoops commentary from the other day
Looking at this fiba World Cup, it’s all kind of stupid as qualifiers are scheduled so that nba players can’t compete
Cro National team performance has been terrible but i was actually hopeful having zubac play would be a big contribution
Croatia has struggled defensively and athletically mightily. And at the end of the day zubac is a beast. He can look slow in the nba but that league is incredible. On Normal international competition he should be a force with his size
Unfortunately we’re pretty close to the peak of cro hoops hopes. Zubac, hezonja, saric are prime age and bogdanovic is exiting that prime which will be a major blow
Fortunately for hezonja he has exited the nba which just destroyed him mentally and he’s been able to gather himself abroad and actually hoop
Let’s hope bender can still have some of that revival with actual playing time.
Big question mark is saric. Sad to see how his career has turned out after so much promise with the sixers. Let’s not forget he was putting up 20 pts a game in the playoffs against the Celtics as a young 20 year old. Hopefully he’s healed and can find the right situation again but will he ever really want to ware down that knee with National team duty again??
The rest of the Croatian prospects look unpromising. Samanic actually exploded in the g league being player of the month before getting hurt averaging close to 30 with 40 percent 3 point shooting. Disappointing pop couldn’t with his usual international magic with him
https://bleacherreport.com/post/real-madrid/f8703117-4704-48f2-952c-2cd9ff49c09b
From “bust” to Balon D’or.
Leading us through two generations of nogometaši.
And still at his peak at a soon to be 37.
His level matched with his longevity is unparalleled.
I am actually looking forward to seeing Real Modrić take a break at Real Madrid. Let these young guns play and give Modrić a rest through the fall in preparation for Qatar.
You will need Luka at the business end of the season any way.
If true, then this is a good bit of business from Hajduk.
Selling a guy off to a 2nd division Bundesliga team for 1 million Euro, only for him to go to to the EPL for 10 million one year later.
Scratch that. I think that was a loan fee. They have to pay Hajduk more money to make his loan move permanent.
Man we used to be so thin for years
Having to get performances of teh likes of schildenfeld(God bless him) but looks like we will be looking solid for a few years
Hoping the midfield doesn’t fall too far off when luka retires
But for some reason I feel luka may stay around as a player coach type guy euro??? Health willing
But the likes of majer and sucic are chomping at the bit
Would be super cool to see the vuskovic brothers play together
Little Robert and niko throwback
