Igor Pokrajac will step back into the Octagon Friday night replacing fellow Croatian light heavyweight Anthony Perosh, after Perosh suffered a horrific toe injury in training. Pokrajac’s opponent will be “The Mexicutioner” Joey Beltran, and you may recognize the name as a former opponent of Stipe Miocic. Beltran has recently left the heavyweight division in favor of fighting in the light heavyweight division.
Beltran has gone 1-1 since changing divisions and lost a unanimous decision to James Te Huna in his last outing. Pokrajac on the other hand was sporting a 3-fight win streak when he lost via arm bar to Vinny Magalhaes at UFC 152. Both fighters will be looking to get back into the win column on Saturday night.
UFC on FX 6 takes place Dec. 15 at Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre in Broadbeach, Gold Coast, Australia. The event’s main card airs live on FX (on Dec. 14 in the U.S. due to the time difference) following prelims on FUEL TV.
This match up favors both combatants as they prefer the stand up war-type of fight. I would give the edge to Pokrajac in this bout as he has a slight advantage in the stand up and is a better wrestler then Beltran. One punch can be the difference in this fight so tune in Friday night for a stand up war and possible ‘fight of the night’ winner.
On a side note, I have been contacted by the supplier of Igor Pokrajac’s walkout shirt from the Soszynski fight at UFC 140 in Toronto. I know there was a lot of interest on the site at that time and now that the shirts are available, please let me know if you would like to purchase one. As readers of the site, we will get a pretty good deal on the T-shirts but I need to know how many are interested first before we go ahead and place an order. If you can email me or just post your interest in the comments that would be greatly appreciated. I have attached a picture of the shirt below.
