25′ – GOAL for Shkupi: Queven beats Livaković 1-on-1 after a defensive blunder by Kevin Theophile-Catherine and Josip Mišić. 1-0 for the visitors.
44′ – GOAAAAAAL DINAMO! Arijan Ademi’s perfect header finds the back of the net! We are even at Maksimir, 1-1.
86′ – GOAAAAAAL DINAMO! Petković gives Dinamo the lead after a broken play inside the box! 2-1 for the hosts.
89′ – GOAL for Shkupi: Cephas makes no mistake and finishes with poise after spotting Livaković miles off his line. We are level at the stroke of stoppage time.
Embarrassing result for Dinamo Zagreb on home turf. Drmić was silent most of the match, and the wingers provided no spark until Oršić came on. On the bright side, youngster Martin Baturina looked excellent after entering the pitch in the second half.
I see Petra Martic in the right hand column (Tweets) of this website. Don’t forget about Bernarda Pera. There’s an article on espn complaining that England’s women’s team is “too white”. You don’t mind those CRIMINALS shoving that down your throat but you get all hot and bothered and instantly censor anyone who sticks up for your own kind, right?
Good news about Čolak.
How did Perišić do? I see he came on at 60 minutes.
Antonio Čolak is with Rangers now. That’s an excellent team right now, so a good move for him. The more depth we have of strikers, the better.
Colak scored for his club today.
WTF???
Ya Mario vuskovic with a possible move to premier league
Hope whatever he does is the best way for his development
I Doubt he would be starting so doesn’t bode well for World Cup for him
But he could be a key role in next qualifying
We seem to be blessed with defensive talent these days
I missed the 2nd half of Rijeka’s game, but apparently there was a “god of Halilovic” sighting. I was told he was terrible.
Hate to hear that
According to Portal Finance Football and reported by Cro media, Dalic is one of the worst paid national team coaches going to the WC. Apparently he gets 550 thousand euros a year ? He ranks 24th.
Outdated information.
He is paid a LOT more now.
The 500 thousand number was the contract he had around WC2018.
He is currently paid 1.6 million Euro per year.
He’s essentially a top-10 paid coach in the World Cup.
PLUS ➕️
Not included is all the endorsement money he gets from Banka Zagreb Premium Visa plus other ones
He’s chilling large
Be interesting to see what his future holds… 2024 Euro, club team
Say Hrvatska makes it to the Quarters …
Does he get a ‘Wolfsburg ‘ sized club a la Niko Kovac ? Where he can have “some’ funds to spend & is backed.
Does he jump ship if that’s the case?
Vušković to Liverpool. Imagine that lol.
Liverpool pump 5 against Leipzig
But didn’t see Gvardiol on the game sheet
Is he injured?
Just a few years back, Livakovic was thought to be a sought-after, up and coming keeper throughout Europe (especially after standing on his head against I believe Benfica). Not saying that a European giant was gonna sign him, but the fact that no mid to lower tier clubs from leagues around the world didn’t bite on him, is telling you all you need to know.

Another side effect of this is that Dinamo aren’t grooming/ playing other goalkeepers. The fact that livakovic is average and he can’t make the jump past the HNL, it’s actually hurting the development of croatian goalies that would normally get a shot to prove themselves at Croatias #1 talent factory… he’s created a goalkeeping logjam
At least Kalinić actually played at some mid-size clubs and already lived his ups and downs under that pressure. And Ivusić and Grbić actually are up-and-coming
FT 2 – 1 to Osijek. Leading 2 – 0 and opponents down a player from 69th minute, it was looking like all over. However, Nejasmic in the 84 min, scores a comical own goal from 40 metres to give the hosts a chance in the return leg in Osijek. Ivusic could not do much about it. Ivusic had a good game making a couple of good saves during the match.
Well at least the game was on the road.
Will be good to come home and close out the series.
Rijeka will have a more difficult time since they are losing at home.
Anyone watch Rijeka to see if Labrovic was at fault for either goal?
Yes I watched the game and Labrovic was not to blame for the goals.
Watching Osijek in Kazahstan HT 0 – 0. The hosts better in early stages and hitting the bar following a corner. The pitch is artificial and not suiting Osijek.
Beljo injured and did not travel with the team.
Kahlina playing for Charlotte FC in MLS looked strong in preseason friendly against Chelsea tonight. I have watched him over past season and really like what I’ve seen. Why not call him up as one of the 3 goalies for September UNL and give him a shot?
Im gonna go on a limb and say because he plays in the MLS which is about 3 steps down from the Prva HNL
We still have to see what Rijeka’s Labrovic can do.
Labrovic is young, very tall, and is probably our only keeper who has been consistently starting for his teams for three seasons straight without any injury.
He was called up as our third keeper in the most recent UNL games in June, so he’s already on the radar.
My only issue with Kahlina is that he’s already older, not much taller than Livakovic, and he didn’t really nail down the starting gig at Ludogorets when he played for them in that year-and-a-half period in 2020/21. Also, not sure if the skill level he faces in MLS is any better than HNL. I’d prefer to give Labrovic a chance ahead of him (assuming Labrovic has been performing well at Rijeka these past few years).
Labrovic has been excellent with Rijeka
He’s really our best (of few) goalkeeping talent.
He was injured almost half the season last year, however.
How would you compare him to Ivusic in terms of form and style
Josip Šutalo out 4 weeks
Muscle rupture
Haris Sceferovic left Benfica, giving more opportunity for Musa to play.
This tie was a lot more than a Livakovic blunder…but it seems to be the main point here. If you guys watched the game you’d probably have noticed that Sutalo had to come off due to an injury and then kevin theophile-catherine came in as a sub. He’s already been shaky this season and a shaky defense creates an insecure goalie situation. I’m not defending Liva, I’m just saying this tie was more to do with Dinamo missing good chances and then on the other end, playing poorly on defense.
I rarely comment on goalies and their qualities because I feel its a very complicated position…very few, if any of us have the knowledge to know how to drill down and comment. Sure, we all know the basics about coming off your line for crosses but there’s soo much more. Livakovic has a really good reputation amongst the majority of Croatian coaches and the pundits that talk about him and yet here we all slaughter him…as if we somehow know better. I personally can’t understand how Lovre Kalinic isn’t playing at some better club in Europe…why is he back at Hajduk and why isn’t he our first choice. I keep thinking he’s obviously the better keeper than Livakovic but he’s apparently NOT? Based on my personal opinion, I would never have thought Livakovic is the better option than Kalinic but he is…and according to the people that are involved in commenting on HNL week after week…they all say Livakovic is the better option…so what the hell do I know?
Cmon man… Goalie is probably the easiest position to judge from the couch, literally their job is to stop shots from hitting the back of the net, and all the nuance stuff (that we don’t understand) is there to ward off the shot from taking place in the first place! Neither of which he does well!
This is not even factoring in his lack of ability to start an attack from the back!
He definitely is bad with his feet, I 100% agree. He’s also poor with set plays (crosses and corner kicks) and yet he’s still the #1 choice for Croatia. Why do you think that is? are we all wrong?
Two things can be equally true, he’s a below average international goalkeeper, and Croatia has no bonafide goalies to unseat him…
and to be fair I believe the last year they have been trying to find someone else to step up to the challenge!
I think when he’s in good form he’s a great shot stopper, good on breakaways and he’s very athletic but poor with his feet and lacks the courage to attack crosses.
Agreed, but here’s the problem. Today’s modern game needs a keeper with the ability to play with his feet. He needs to be good with his feet, otherwise its more difficult to play out from the back. Also, his inability to “command the box” puts more pressure on our defenders.
Eric, I agree with that and I know Livakovic is pretty bad using his feet….we all agree with that.
here’s the $50,000 question:
Who is better than Livakovic to lead the team in Qatar?
Remember, Ivusic and Kalinic have both had the opportunity to take the job away from Livakovic while he went through a pretty bad slump and yet neither of them took…why not? All we do here is rinse and repeat, as if we are nuts and can’t remember why Livakovic starts. If he’s soo bad (and I agree he’s not great) then we are truly fucked in goal and at striker!
…all you have to do is read below and see what we write about or own players when we don’t take into account the entire picture. Good God, Livakovic struggles but come on… its as if some of you have never watched Ivusic or Kalinic struggle!!
Here’s another example. On another site I was bragging about Sutalo…he was phenomenal last season and I couldn’t believe he was never called up to the National Team.
another example…Rebic! If he keeps up with the positive attitude and good work rate, you guys will all be saying “Brekalo who”? Brekalo has been soo insignificant for the last couple of years, having one good game every 5 games does notrhing for me.
I get you point. I hope that Dalić takes whoever is is in the best form in November. At this point, I would likely choose Ivušić or Kalinič. Who knows, maybe a young stud starts killing it in the HNL? I don’t hate Livaković, but i feel like he’s not getting any better.
Ivusic looked like he took the job.. but got hurt.
Being a good shot stopper means you have good fast hands and feet and have decent positioning. Livakovic does that well.
Livakovic’s biggest problem is mental. He is not an alpha male. Thus some guys don’t listen to him or respect him ( the older guard ) Do you think Suba was an alpha male? Your damn right he was.. the whole area was under his command.
A goalie should be feared by his defense. Im 6’4 and played at 210 lbs ( Goalie ) When I called the ball my defense got out of the way when i was going for a disputed ball or cross etc..
A case of self preservation.
Livas other problem is his indecision you either stay or go, instantly.. if you think about it for half a sec, your out of the play. He is weak in the air.. and he is almost shorter when he jumps for the ball then if he stood and stretched.
I don’t know if its his hand size that gives him problems with crosses or if his ability to judge ball flight is not where it should be for that level of competition.
Liva plays scared but otherwise is technically strong..
Ivusic plays fearless but he makes more mistakes the Liva.
He needs more experience.
Kalinic never got under Subas Shadow, When he retired Kalinic was given the job and he chocked. He was not mentally ready. But if he gets his head straight he could be a beast.
Labrovic, he could be a good one too. would like to see him get some action.
I agree with your “Alpha Male” comment but I’m not so sure about the “A goalie should be feared by his defense” comment?! Maybe you can explain that a little better?
You’re right about a keeper must take command of the whole area…they’re usually in the best position to see everything and yell out instructions or let a defender know how much time he has on the ball.
My concern with the constant bombardment of Livakovic is we keep repeating the same damn thing. We are turning into our dads…always criticizing by repeating the same crap over and over and yet, whats the alternative?
We need to ask ourselves why Ivusic isn’t starting for the National Team…his injury happened a long time ago and he’s played at least 15 + games since then. Why isn’t Kalinic starting…the guy is super tall and looks comfortable with his feet and yet he’s still not the NT first choice?! If you think Livakovic is soo bad (I’m not saying he’s good….I’m asking people to stop repeating the same crap and ask themselves to look at the other choices), ask yourself why nobody has stolen his job? I guarantee you its not a political reason so whats the real reason?
By feared. A goalie needs to be shown respect. That means when there’s a mistake, theres no raising hands into the air or pointing etc. Keep the body language out of it. You ever see top goalies ream out players.. all the time.. you ever see players ream out a goalie that can slap them silly in the locker room. Mistakes happen to all goalies.. but they cannot be shown up.. if that happens, they will lose confidence fast and has to be nipped in the bud.
Watch Livas reaction to the second goal. I would not take that reaction from my defenders, especially since they put me in that situation.
Slavonac from Canada.
In some ways I agree that goalkeeping is the most difficult position, but not necessarily the most difficult to judge, atleast not in all circumstances.
There have been times I thought that Livakovic had a decent game, but certain movements on the ball and confidence just do not seem to be there against teams he should be performing well against.
As for what the pundits in Croatia say, my question is which ones?? Often times you will find that they are very partisan in their thinking. Which by that I mean they will usually talk up players on the teams they prefer, now it’s not always the case but it’s often the case.
There may have been times I would say give Livaja abother shot, now given that I am a Dalmatinac you could argue that I am being biased too. But the amount of goals he scored last season means he is the most deserving with a regards to to a goal scoring position to me, despite what league he is playing in. Now remember both him and Orsic are roughly the same age and play in the HNL, even Orsic opted out of playing in a different league and many people here are arguing that he is better. I disagree even though I still think Orsic too deserves an opportunity despite that he didn’t impress in the last games for the Nations League. As I say this now, I know that people will disagree. However, the reality is that stats carry the argument in Livaja’s favour I would argue. In this way I believe we are arguing like for like.
For me it’s irrelevant what team a player plays for on whichever league it is always the stats that carry forward the argument, as the stats should be viewed as results. Now if a player has those stats and they don’t play well enough and if they don’t get the results they should while playing for Croatia, on a consistent basis, then they don’t deserve that call up again in my eyes. Which is why I argue against calling up Rebic for example, he contributed to club but not to the National team. He also played an atrocious tournament, not one game but an entire tournament in the last Euro Cup.
Now on some level Livakovic has those stats in the league matches, but the issue is how does that translate in the games we see him play with the National Team. I think they don’t translate well at all, and it’s a confidence issue. I don’t think he is a terrible player but maybe the pressure is something he cannot deal with. To use an analogy, to put it more succinctly, out of the two goalies of Courtois and Livakovic who would you say is better and why?? This question, along with the obvious answer, proves that it is not insurmountable to state what makes a good goalie or who is best to play in a position. The reality is we do not have a Courtois but in this last tourney I would say Ivusic was slightly better and therefore maybe more deserving of a start.
With regards to players like Sucic, Musa they do deserve more chances to showcase themselves. I think Sucic did showcasing himself very well in the little time he had against France or possibly Austria for the Nation’s League, had he had more time we may have had a better result. Unfortunately Musa was off due to COVID with Livaja so this really sucked as we couldn’t see the two play. For me, that would have been the tell tale showing for Livaja if he was up to the challenge or not. It would have given us an alternative as well to Budimir to see the two of him and Musa duking it out see who is better. So hopefully these guys get another opportunity.
Livakovic’s worst trait is that he is scared of contact.
He shies away from the opposing attacker every time he gets close.
It’s why he is so bad with high balls in his penalty area, and why he’s bad at challenging strikers on a break.
As BECAR posted below…that first goal…geez man, Livakovic could have easily beaten the opposing player to the ball…but he tries to get the ball, while at the same time, trying to avoid all contact with the opposing player.
The player ran right by Livakovic without any bit of contact. Watching that video, and it almost looks like the striker ran through a ghost, ha ha. Not even a shoulder brush. Nothing.
But every time we see this, Livakovic slows down and hesitates on every challenge. He did it here too, and it gave the opposing player a clear chance to lob it over Livakovic, and he took it.
I’ve figured it out,.Dalic has a thing for guys with a great head of hair…livakovic lovren and that sexy beast Vida.
He’s extremely loyal to those with a healthy follicle!
It’s evident the way he’s always combing his greasy black locks on the side-lines in his wrinkled white dress shirt.
I mean seriously if skoric wasn’t bald he would probably be a starter too!
Vida doesn’t have a healthy follicle.
He’ll be Terry Bradshaw 2.0 in a few years.
Nobody beats Corluka.
Charlie’s the man.
Boban and jarni had sexy mullets back in the day!
I think we need a sexiest hair tread…I vote for Charlie
Livakovic stinks. This guy should not even be on the plane to Qatar. He never knows when and when not to come out. Awful.
My top 3 for Qatar:
Ivusic
Kalinic
Bench sitting Grbic over Livakovic
MB,
In reality that would have been a great set up for the goalies at the beginning of the Nations League. Giving all goalies a chance to try it out again.
Dalic just seems too afraid of certain things at this point. Playing younger players, playing different goalies. If the Nations League was meant to be an experiment a bit with everyone then stock to that logic. But he didn’t want to. Why did, Sucic for example, have so little playing time??
Besides the goaltending, Mišič made a lot of mistakes, ivanušec missed a few sitters, so did a few others. Dinamo really could have destroyed this team, but they looked very rusty. Hopefully they can pull together and make it to the group stage. I think this squad it very talented, and there’s tonnes of potential. I’m just not confident with the keeper, or the manager.
they dont have a creative midfielder anymore, unless they start playing Ljubicic in his natural position, but even then I dont think he is a majstro at pulling the strings. Maybe they bring G. Tomic to coach
He doesn’t even belong as Dinamo’s number one anymore
Livakovic is so below World Cup level it would be cruel to critique.
Does he even make the squad at this point?
I would take kalinic(lovre) save the jokes over livakovic right now in current form
I don’t know how we consider liva. He has had the most European challenge for sure but also has had more then enough blunders for two careers
Kalinic had a good one good game so far this season. holy shit, lets wait and see how he does until the half way point.
I put ivusic higher then both
With still arguably limited overall repka game time he has performed above average
And not to mention he is the only Croat goalie to beat France….
Kalinić has better underlying fundamentals, especially in Livaković’s worst areas: great kicks, vision up the field, ability to stay focused to make saves when it matters. He had an excellent season last year, and two good performances in the season so far. This isn’t 2018-19 Lovre Kalinić. He’s matured a lot as a keeper since returning to Hajduk.

1st goal
Here’s why Liva stinks. Everyone makes mistakes (and so do the defenders today), but when your defenders have to be absolutely perfect because your goalie can’t ever bail you out, you’ve got serious problems.
The second goal was a bad decision to leave the line with 3 defenders around one attacker. It was a bang bang play but it was an unnecessary risk. Let the attacker deal with the 3 defenders and don’t leave him an easy chip. That there is bad communication,, Did Liva call off the defenders? or was everybody just doing their own thing. That’s what I would expect in a High School game
This was a poor display by Dinamo, in fact one of their worst in Europe in recent years. So many passing mistakes and lack of ideas going forward. Josip Sutalo getting injured early on did not help either.
Livakovic had a shocker and should have stayed on his line for the second goal.
Even with the first goal he could have done better, although he is not entirely to blame. Most of the players look out of form which is not surprising considering that the season has just started. Cacic’s position as a coach is on shaky ground and he could be heading for the exit doors ?
Backline really falling asleep on those two long ball goals.
Misic on that first one, and Ljubicic with the poor anticipation on the second. Assumed his teammate would win the header on that 50/50 ball, and left a clear path for the opposing player next to him to run toward goal in case his teammate didn’t get it (which is exactly what happened).
We criticize poor Livakovic for never coming off his line, and then today he does the complete opposite…and literally runs to the furthest corner of the 18 yard box, ha ha.
Funniest part is that Theophile-Catherine had the opposing player cut off, with Ljubicic trailing nearby. It wouldn’t have likely resulted in a shot on goal if Livakovic had just remained on his line.
Might be a blessing in disguise. One more reason for Dalic to look elsewhere at keeper.
10000000%. If Dinamo can turn things around in the next match, the squad is fine. But people won’t forget Livi’s mistake today
