Anthony “Hippo” Perosh
Saturday, a less well known Croatian fighter will step into the Octagon at UFC 138 versus Cyrille “The Snake” Diabate. His name is Anthony “Hippo” Perosh of Sydney, Australia. You may recognize the name as a former opponent and training partner of Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipović, but Perosh is an established MMA and BJJ practitioner in his own right. The Sydney native has compiled an 11-6 record in MMA which includes a recent win in the UFC. Anthony Perosh is known as one of the very first Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belts in Australia. The Australian born Croatian is very accomplished in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu having medalled in important competitions such as the Mundial, The Pan American as well as winning the qualification to the finals of the ADCC on 5 separate occasions. “Hippo” is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu 2nd degree black belt under world renowned BJJ practitioner Carlos Machado. Perosh also owns and teaches at Sinosic/Perosh Martial Arts with fellow Australian born Croatian and MMA fighter Elvis “Rock and Rumble” Sinosic.
Cyrille Diabate should prove to be a stiff challenge for Perosh as he is an accomplished MMA fighter with a record of 17-7-1. “The Snake” is a fierce striker and is coming off a win in his last UFC outing versus Steve Cantwell. It is no secret that the Croat will be looking for the take down in this fight and hope to use his superior BJJ skills on the ground to overwhelm Diabate. Perosh must avoid the stand-up game at all costs or it might be a short night for the “Ozzie”. UFC 138 takes place on Saturday, November 5th, from the LG Arena in Birmingham, England. The event will air on the same day, via tape delay, on Spike TV in the U.S. at 8pm Eastern time and live on Sportsnet in Canada at 3pm Eastern time. Due to an injury on the main card draw, Perosh vs. Diabate will now be part of the main card broadcast. Once again let’s support our fellow Croatian sportsman via his twitter account @AnthonyPerosh.
“A good start to the week with the sun shining in England. Checked in with UFC_Australia today. Training and diet is going great.”

@Ziva istina
You wish 50%, from what i remember it was around 90% negative feedback and only about 10% positive. Thats what it looked on the votes panel. Seems to me you are talking yourself up again, and only in your head your doing well, when in reality your not doing quite so well in the feedback department…..
Actually, I was offered to write the weekly column and I probably will when I get some time. And guess what, if I do, it will be the most read item on a regular basis. Why???? Because, outside of my comments about glorified afterschool fight clubs, all my other comments are backed with reason and make people think.
Remember this, the best opinion columnists are usually those who gain 50% percent negative feedback and 50% who gain positive feedback. Seems to me I am doing that role quite well.
Ziva Istina you’re an asshole, and I hope to meet you some day. I’d love to see where his IP address ends up, I bet it’s in Tel Aviv.
Well if your an UFC fan like yourself, you should know that Roy Nelson was so much more overweight a year ago. He has worked his ass off to slim down and I give him credit. But what do I know, I’m not Ziva Istina. I just defended you yet you still like to cause problems. Fuck off 98 % of fighters are in shape. Only blind people like yourself don’t know that. Thank god we didn’t give a delusional punk like you a weekly article. THANK YOU TO ALL WHO VOTED SAY NO TO GIVING ZIVA ISTINA WEEKLY ARTICLE TIME…also those who voted for Allen19 :p. I think it was a solid 19 haha.
previous quote by some……I just don’t understand how people can rip MMA, when these guys are the most well shaped athletes you can find and take a beating in what they do
so, the fat ass who beat old man cro cop was in “shape”
God i love “Cro Cop”! He needs a proper farewell match. Hopefully in Hrvatska. And hopefully against a tomato can. I don’t care how one sided the fight might be as long as he gets to go out with a victory! I think he’s deserved that…
Anthony Perosh takes out Cyrille Diabate with a second round rear naked choke submission. Post Fight article to follow.
@Shinobi thanks I appreciate it, but I don’t like being totally mean. I think Ziva knows what he brings to the table and he knows who he pisses off. I just don’t like the way he forms words and it’s obvious he carries himself highly which people should do. But you hit it on the head, if only Ziva was more positive and not the usual 48 year old always negative Croatian that I’ve seen in my lifetime (my dad especially). Just lighten up, enjoy the good times, and be harsh when it’s needed. I just don’t understand how people can rip MMA, when these guys are the most well shaped athletes you can find and take a beating in what they do.
@Croatian Crippler
Thanks for the update, i never knew about that cro-cop injury, its a shame now we will never know if he wouldve performed any better if he were 100% fit? Brave but stupid on his behalf. I know i would never go into a MMA fight underdone, because i know if i lost there would be that “what if” question going through my head.
Nice to see my fellow machado jiu jitsu practitioner getting some coverage on croatian sports.com. He comes from the same jiu jitsu school im from, only he resides in sydney and im from melbourne.
Perosh is a great guy and i wish him all the best in his upcoming fight at UFC 138.
@Allen19
There is no reason you should back away from your earlier statements on ziva istina, you were spot on to make that call. The guy does know something about soccer, theres no denying that, but that doesnt mean hes’ always correct. Just like when he said he can read the minds of the croatian fooballers, thats just delusional from were im sitting. I also hate how he thinks he knows everything about anything. He couldnt be more wrong about MMA, i tried explaining that to him nicely, but he wouldnt have any of it, just to stubborn and arrogant to listen to anyone but himself. I also agree with you allen, that his comments are always negative and a total buzzkill. I make some negative comments myself on this site, as do you allen19, but i cant think of a time he made a positive remark about anything.
Anyhow, great article @cro-crippler. Keep up the good work.
@Conor- I don’t pick on people about where they are from, it’s not cool so I respect where your from. I like that your a fan of the NT, keep it up maybe some day they will deliver the goods for you (Friday would be nice)
I just wish you saw the creative side to it. It’s so much strategy that goes to it that can make it boring or it can steal the show.
@Allen19
I am not out of touch, and I don’t completely hate violence, I just think that sitting on someones chest and repeatedly punching them in the face is stupid. It’s only an opinion, but aren’t opinions and discussions what forums are all about?
As for my name; I have ancestors in Croatia, although I have an Irish father and that’s where my name originated from. Feel free to say what you want about that, I’m only here for the sports.
Just a bit of an update on Mirko Cro Cop. He apparently tore his bicep ten days before his fight with Roy Nelson. He was told not to fight because he needed immediate surgery. He declined and entered the fight with the injury. We all know the outcome. He is getting operated on tuesday.
No issues with anyone posting about this glorified form of after-school backyard brawling.
Ibthink we should all give @Crocrippler some respect here guys. He’s giving us his insight and his time for people to be aware of the Hrvati that have chosen this SPORT. This IS a sport just as tennis, football, soccer, even lawnbowling is a sport for people. I might not know alot about MMA, but I will appreciate a person who is dedicated to it, be it a fighter, trainer or a writer. So Crocrippler keep em’ coming buddy!
Every sport has its cheaters. Cheating is ingrained in soccer. MMA fighters are just under more scrutiny by the athletics commission when it comes to testing.
UFC has a lot of shit fighters — cro cop being one of them. When you compare the Penn/Diaz fight to the CC/Nelson fight they are nowhere close technique and skill set. In CC’s defense he is too old to compete, but this fight should never have happened in an organization that is trying to promote itself as being the elite fighter org.
For those that understand the skill set of Penn and Diaz, the fight was amazing on multiple fronts. Diaz fought wherever Penn wanted the fight to go. Most fighters tend to outpoint the other fighter and Diaz completely ignores this. When Diaz was taken to the ground the stalemate of two amazing grapplers was something spectacular to see. Where most fighters would be considered in a compromising position (back taken with a single hook), Diaz was able to turn into a neutral position. The dismantling of a dangerous striker (Penn) by body shots was really something great.
When you deconstruct anything it becomes pointless. Soccer — you put a ball into a goal whats the fucking point. Music –you just play a certain pattern of notes and sounds come out big deal. Sex — you just … you get the point.
Either you like it or you don’t.
@Allen19
I totally agree with you!!
I went a bit too far but it’s just your phrasing of sentences just pissed me off. You seemed like a typical MMA hater from the first sentence on. As for the guys laying down, well their trying to get into a commanding position to start knocking the guy out or for a submission lock. It’s the sport, what can you do. To me it’s a sport but that’s your debate. Sorry for going too far but it’s just sometimes when you post it’s so much of a buzz kill. It’s funny that most of what you post I agree on because your root for the NT but that just set me off.
As for you Conor, well you clearly are out of touch. Either that or you hate violence. Also you don’t sound Croatian very much, you a fan of the NT?? Their better teams to enjoy tbh.
What a stupid ‘sport’. It’s just kicking the sh*t out of each other. What does anyone gain from that?
Damn dude, all I said was that this guy who beat the almighty, heroic Cro Cop was a fat pig. I am not questioning anyone who watches this stuff.
Don’t get me wrong, I am a fan of MMA as well. I love a good blood bath and ass kicking when I see one, too bad much of this “sport” invloves guys laying on the ground next to fence that resembles what my pokojna baba used to house the chickens.
MMA is not a sport but a means of survival.
You mentioned Brock Lesnar…..is that the same Lesnar who was a steroid and drug abuser.
I officially hate all your guts Ziva Istina. Usually I was on the board of people who respected your opinion and I probably still will since when it comes to footyball you are mostly right. That being said, your probably the most arrogant, nonsensical, idiotic human when it comes to something other than soccer. You just make things around you turn into a bad vibe and you just bring all the unpleasantness that surrounds your life into here.
This is a sport with the most in shape guys you will ever met. Some may be out of shape just like Big Nelson, but go watch some clips of champions like Jon Jones, George St.Pierre, and Anderson Silva. Go watch other great fighters like Rashad Evans, Dan Henderson, and Brock Lesnar. These men are amazing and work their asses off to get better. I respect them a hell of lot more than soccer players. They don’t wine about contracts, they take much more of a beating, and you could never question their effort. So do all of us a favor Ziva you pest and shut the hell up. There is always some internet noob that thinks he’s better than everyone else. Congrats you proven that with your predictions but your still a rotten human being.
MMA for sure is a sport and it’s a great sport. You can go ahead and judge ONE fighter in the sport, then think your some genius. Then few minutes later you will have people like me that won’t stand for your crap and tell you how stupid you truly are. So I look forward to your response because I like to see what you pull out of your ass here hot shot. To all my MMA fans, continue watching because this sport is awesome. Don’t let mind twisting punks like Ziva question you.
quick question to all the MMA fans???? The fat ass who beat cro cop last week, is that guy an athlete? He resembled more of the type of guy you would see doing bouncer duty at a bar or nightclub.
But, this is a sport?????
