Another year has passed, and what a great one it was for CroatianSoccerReport.com. Not only did we manage to smoothly launch CroatianSports.com, but we also had Branimir Kvartuč on the front lines reporting from Maksimir during Croatia’s Euro qualifier versus Israel as well as the Split derby when Hajduk took on Rnk earlier in the season. NBA locker rooms were flooded with questions about the ‘late great’ Dražen Petrović while Colin O’ Haravić and Mike ‘The Croatian Crippler’ Rožić made their debut interviews with Ivan Klasnić and Igor ‘The Duke’ Pokrajac respectively.
CroatianSports.com’s mission statement to “Unite Croatian Fans Around the World” is our #1 priority. This website is a place where Croatians worldwide can gather to discuss their passion: Croatian sports. In essence, CroatianSports has become the new ‘Dom’. We value everyone’s insight, because without ‘you’, this site would have never grown into what it is today.
Below are a few categories to start off the year-ending awards. Along with nominating your favorite personalities, feel free to add your own categories. This is completely for the readers. Have fun with it. Let’s see where we get in a few days time.
1) CroatianSports.com MVP: most valuable person to the site this year
2) CroatianSports.com Rookie of the Year: new face that stole the show
3) Best Prva Generacija Personality: person you can’t wait to see on the boards
4) Biggest Bust: athlete/member who bombed big time
5) Moment of the Year: what did it for you in 2011?
6) Line of the Year: who had the wittiest/funniest statement?
@Wallace
🙂
Quote of the Year goes to Anonymous:
“And you can quote me on that”
@ Mihovil
Domagoj shouldn’t have to think twice about taking that offer. The Ukrainian Premier League is definitely a few notches better than the HNL (I think the UPL is in the Top 10 for UEFA League Coefficients). Plus at Kiev, he ‘ll be playing EL and CL football year in and year out. I think it would be a good stepping stone between where he’s at now and making it into a top tier western European league. Spend a year or two over there, continue to grow, play more in Europe (CL & EL) and from there, move to Bundlesliga, Serie A, EPL, etc.
@Croatian Crippler
Hvala. It looked as though they were going to go at it again. 🙂
Domagoj Vida blizu kijevskog Dinama, odšteta oko 5 mil. €?
http://www.24sata.hr/nogomet/domagoj-vida-blizu-kijevskog-dinama-odsteta-oko-5-mil-246585
@Mihovil
His record stands at 21-3 which looks good on paper but they are all no name guys out of Europe. The only decent and I say that lightly guy he fought Jeff Monson and he lost a decision. To be honest I’m not sold on him at all it seems like he has a padded record.
@Croatian Crippler
Didn’t Sapp learn his lesson after fighting Cro Cop? 🙂 Do you see any potential from Maro?
@Ante B.
Molim. I do the same from time to time.
@JP @Denis Svirčić @Shinobi
Puno hvala! Comradery is the way to go boys!
Mihovil, hvala. Comprehension and salutations can be difficult for some. I sometimes forget to sign in because on CSR it would automatically sign me in.
Here is another up and coming Croatian MMA fighter but he is fighting a chump in this video. The video is pretty funny because they almost fight twice.

@AllenInnovation
That was Ante B. who made that post.

4)Biggest Bust:

What are your guys thoughts on Simic?
http://www.tportal.hr/sport/nogomet/165721/Dario-simic-ulazi-u-borbu-za-celnika-HNS-a.html
Shot out to JP, thanks for remembering me man. Very much appreciated.
My votes:
MVP – Ziva Istina or as Zagorci would call him, Zivek
Rookie – far and away my boy and fellow dinamovac Croatian Crippler
Best Prva Generacija – besides myself, does anybody remember or has seen Boris lately? That guy was also on cue with politics, history, current events and sports.
Biggest Bust – all of the komunjari on this site…and the “hrvati” who don’t know their own language and/or are PC and who turn a blind eye to our history, shame on you. to the non-cros, this does not apply to you.
Moment of the Year – end of the boycott and Danijel Hrnjak calling Mamic out in the recent press conference. On the site, its Crippler, hands down. Everybody else can suck it.
Line of the year: always will be “BOG I HRVATI ZA DOM SPREMNI =U=”
Spremni,
Ante B.
1. M.V.P. THE CREW ON THE WEB SITE
2 ROOKIE OF THE YEAR HAS TO GO TOO THE CRIPPLER
Valencia želi dovesti Vrsaljka za 4 milijuna eura

@AllenInnovation
I mean no harm brother and I feel bad now! 🙂 It was not you that posted the Joey Barton quote anyway, it was AllenOverjoyed. 🙂
Barton is good at his job, and that is playing a CDM role. I guess that is the bottom line. Too dirty for my liking but I understand where you are coming from as we are lacking the edge we once had with Niko Kovac at the CDM position. We do miss him very much! Especially his leadership!
If I had never met him before I don’t think my opinion would have been as harsh as it was. Dujmo has impressed me somewhat but Vuki however has not. Goal.com can give Vuki 7 stars for the second game against the Turks all they want but to be honest I did not understand that grading??? The guy has very poor passing skills.
Keep making the vids man! I am a big fan! Votes can be swayed you know. 🙂 I don’t come here to belittle or make enemies. I respect yours and everyones opinion on this site. You know that. Oh, and please please incorporate some women in your videos! You are in New York and the CS Crew is in California, the porn capital of the world! Why are we not seeing more women or a “Hot Chick” section on the website? I realize this is a sports website but how are women not sport? They are the greatest game! If this site is missing anything it is the chick factor. 🙂 Branimir, you are the man with the camera, make this happen!!!! 🙂
So many people hate Joey Barton and yes, he’s not a nice guy by all means. He’s an excellent defensive midfielder though, he’s a no nonsense and would give Croatia a new edge. He has a long track record and has plenty of haters, but as a player this guy would be a major upgrade over Dujmo and Vuki. I respect your opinion though but still sad I didn’t get your votes.
1) MVP’s – The CroatianSports.com crew! The Croatia Israel video was absolutely amazing! Are you looking into potentially doing the same thing for the Croatia Serbia game in March 2013 in Zagreb as that would literally be insane! The more of those you can do the better! Please continue with the game day shows and the more recently added live shows as well!
2) Rookie of the Year – The Croatian Crippler! Excellent job! With more excellent work to come! This guy was made for MMA and reporting it. A natural.
3) Best personality – “Everyone” has contributed very well and has something to say. As TGC mentioned, it is what drives the site and makes it grow. When writing this I did initially have someone in mind for the “Posting – Best personality” winner but I changed my tune because it seems to me that the posts are getting better and are less hostile. I look forward to reading everyones comments and seeing new members join the site. We are all getting to know each other better and let’s be honest, you cannot decipher emotion through text properly. If we were all sitting around a table having a few pivos and chatting, the conversation would flow much better and easier. The “Best Personality” visual winner I would have to choose the CroatianSports.com team.
4) Biggest Bust – Negativity. Not sure if this counts as a “biggest bust”, but In between the Latvia game and the first Turkey playoff match I must say that the comments on here were suicidal at times. Have faith in these guys. Considering what we have accomplished for the amount of people in our country it is ridiculous! Biggest bust for a player I would say Lakic. Although I did not expect much. Lovren is young. Let’s see how he turns out.
5) Moment of the Year: Game 1 in Istanbul. When I heard that Corluka might not play I thought we were in trouble. I felt pretty good prior to hearing that news. Corluka in my eyes was MOTM, what a game from him and the entire team! As Ante said, “When Corluka beat the Turkish defender and Olic tapped in. It didnt just change the game, but the entire tie. Thank you Corluka/Olic combo! Commentator was a legend during that call.” – I was freaking out !!!! The Modric laser against Israel is my second choice. Luka is the man!!!! When does he get the captains armband? Or does he?
6) Best Line: Ante Kvartuč – Refer to the Croatia vs Malta from Scorpio’s video on youtube.
“However, Rakitic was not within 2000 miles of the Island of Malta.” 🙂 – I could not stop laughing! That pre game and post game segment is a classic from start to finish. And
“Jedan nullaaaaa jedan nullaa Ivica Olic druga minuta” – Frickin unbelieveable!
7) Worst Line: AllenOverjoyed – “Joey Barton is amazing and I wish he was Croatian.” Allen, you were a shoe in for my visual “Best Personality”, it was a done deal. You managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory with this comment for me. A long story short, I met him a few years ago @ a club in London. To say he is a loser of epic proportions would be the understatement of the year! If I cared I would say that the guy needs serious psychiatric attention. Wanting this guy to be Croatian truly truly boggles my mind and makes me ponder frequently. One should not ponder too much Allen. 🙂 There is much more to the story but I will not get into it. Maybe over a few pivos one day. Or should I say vinos!
If you are able, try and get better quality video equipment for your segments. The video after the first Turkey game was great. I had trouble hearing what was being said in some instances of the video but it was great! The video you did before the first Turkey game was epic! Loved it! You have a knack for the spotlight and the camera likes you, so don’t give up! I seriously hope that I did not offend you in anyway with my above statements but I must call this one as it is. As you would do the same I believe.
This site is awesome! Keep up the great work!
Sretan Božic i Nova godina svima!
@Denis, there’s a reason many heretics “go from villian to hero” thru-out history. Think about it. The earth revolves around the Sun was once heresy.
1)MVP: Denis Svircic
2)Rookie of the year: Crippler Rozic
3)Best personality: Allen19/AllenOutraged/AllenOverjoyed or Mihovil<this man always has the scoop.
4)Biggest Bust: Lakic or Lovren
5)Moment of the year: 0-3 Istanbul
6)Line of the year: "they should be pelted with eggs upon arrival at the airport" Raptore.
1) CroatianSports.com MVP: most valuable person to the site this year
Brane Kvartuc. Even though this guys’ knowledge of croatian soccer is about as rich as my knowledge of the MMA, he put together some interesting and informative videos from Croatia.
Brane 1) was on the pitch for Croatia-Israel, 2) interviewed UEFA delegate Mateo Beusan, 3) Interviewed Rnk Split fans on RNK Split football and Sammir for Croatia 4) interviewed Borut Šips
Also, all the behind the scenes stuff “the brains behind the operation.” Did I fail to mention all the video editing done in the weeeeee hours of the night?
2) CroatianSports.com Rookie of the Year: new face that stole the show
Mike “The Croatian Crippler” Rozic. In only two months of work, this guy has lit CroatianSports.com on fire. With all the UFC events in the states, I’m sure that we will be a force in Croatian MMA.
This is just the beginning for the Crippler. He will only get better with time. Hopefully, there will be some MMA events happening in the near future.
3) Best Prva Generacija Personality: person you can’t wait to see on the boards
This is a tough one to answer. Lots of new faces this year. There are a select 4-6 people that I look forward to when they post.
A better category would be, “who brought it this year?”
I can’t decide between Allen(insert a Shaq type of nickname here) and Wallace.
Allen has improved dramatically since first joining us on CroatianSoccerReport.com. The video was a piece of art. Most importantly, CSR nation has showed him love.
Wallace, talk about a guy that went from villain to hero on the website. I remember back back back in time when I was getting emails to “ban this guys IP address”. I knew from his comments that Wallace is a smart and well educated individual that brings quality to the table. Wallace even went heads up with the great Ziva Istina a few times..haha.
Also, newcomers: Mihovil, IvicA, and Poglavnik deserve a mention. I will stop tping as I will surely forget someone and take the regulars(a list of 20 or so) for granted.
4) Biggest Bust: athlete/member who bombed big time
I have to agree with Allen on Dennis Fistonich. One of my closest friends, but I have to call a spade a spade. The guy has definitely been MIA from CSR and CS the last six months. If Fisto didn’t bring anything to the table, no one would care. So its pretty obvious that some of us miss his takes on croatian soccer. I’m sure that some of you veterans miss his Kranjcar bashing haha.. Fistoooooooooo where are you?
Lakic, I was big on this guy. I’m not gonna lie. After following him at FCK, I figured he would compete for a spot on croatia. However, ever since he signed for Wolfsburg, took that picture with a Wolfsburg shirt while he was still FCK property, he went to mush.
Lovren is still young. Even though I dont rate him, he is playing in a top 4 league in the world for a top 20 team in the world. Lots of pressure on the big stage. What did the rest of you expect from him at this time?
For those of you calling Kelava to start for Cro, is he a bust?
5) Moment of the Year: what did it for you in 2011?
Has to be Croatia-Turkey Istanbul… No one thought Croatia would even get a draw, much less a 3-0 win. The shocker of the year in Europe.
6) Line of the Year: who had the wittiest/funniest statement?
“Welcome to Croatia…
the only decent national team in the world that currently has a coach that has never coached professionally.
kako smo mi pametni narod. dirty Greeks done dirt cheap”
~JP, after the 2-0 Greece loss.
What a weak bunch. Guys aren’t even a quarter of the way there. I expected more from you all.
Genius. 🙂
http://videosift.com/video/Mario-Balotelli-doesn-t-know-how-to-put-his-bib-on
Way too inconsistent? Sure, I can see where your coming from with his past. Recently, the guy has been nothing but on fire because he has the backing of somebody that believes in him ….Mancini. If he keeps this season up, I’d be very afraid of what he did with the Italian squad.
Balotelli is way to inconsistent. If he finds his form though and gets hot before the Euro’s, I’d be a little worried. I think both him and Rossi are overrated.
Huge injury! Although I heard he was on the trade block prior to this happening. Not sure of the validity?
Rossi update – http://www.goal.com/en-us/news/3396/euro-2012/2011/12/14/2802675/villarreals-giuseppe-rossi-sets-sights-on-italys-euro-2012
Rossi will be back, and I think Balotelli will do just fine picking up the slack.
@ Poglavnik
If Villa is definitely out and Torres continues to be rubbish for Chelsea, it’ll make it a bit easier for our back-line come next summer.
Also, Niko Kranjcar played the full 90 today in Europa League! Woot-Woot!!!
@Armada87
Great news for Hrvatska! Spain can sometimes struggle to score more than a goal, and he’s easily their most consistant scorer.
David Villa broke his leg in the Club World Cup. Sucks for the Spaniards, shame too – he’s a class striker.
Between Spain not having Villa and a good possibility that Italy won’t have its top two guns Rossi and Cassano, definitely helps us out in terms of matching up. Now we just have to stay healthy until Summer 2012.
1)MVP:
toss up between Ante and Denis!!!! Awesome job always
2)ROOKIE OF THE YEAR:
CroCrippler!!! Hands down the best addtion and coverage add to site
3)Best prva generacija personality:
Ziva Istina lol!
4)Biggest Bust:
Lovren
Moment of the year: Victory over the turks!
6)Line of the year:
Pokrajac “must be fixed”
1) CroatianSports.com MVP:
– The entire San Pedro crew!!
– You guys rock and what you are doing for us the Croatian community is unbelievable.
2) CroatianSports.com Rookie of the Year:
– Crippler! (contributor)
– IvicA, Mihovil (comments)
3) Best Prva Generacija Personality:
– Ante B
– Ziva Svircina
4) Biggest Bust:
– Croatian B-ball
5) Moment of the Year:
– (for the website) all the NBA stuff about Petro (J.Kidd etc.)
– (for the website) Jose Mourinho Zen
– (for the website) Josipovic Mafia
– (Croatian sports in general) NT victory in Split
6) Line of the Year:
– … Ante B and all his Mamic rants
Alright, let’s see..
MVP – All three guys who worked on the new site. I think it was Ante, Denis, and Matt? If there are more, then they get the MVP too, but to create and upkeep this site is a labor of love. Great job, guys.
Rookie – I am beyond flattered that I have 2 votes so far, but I am going with the Crippler. Not only has he got in depth coverage of fights, but he’s done it consistently in his short time he’s been with us. His last project was phenomenal and he took someone like me, who has no interest or knowledge about the sport and made me genuinely enjoy reading/watching his coverage and sparked my interest. In my 4 years in journalism school, I learned that if you can create interest in something someone knows nothing about or has no prior interest, that right there means you are a great reporter. Cheers to him.
Personality – Ummm…Either Allen or Ziva. Allen never fails to entertain and I love his posts. I used to hate reading Ziva’s post, but after a few months I guess I lightened up and began to see that (for the most part) he may know what he’s talking about. I certainly have a love/hate relationship with what he says, but I also love watching people question him.
Biggest bust – Not really site-related, but Bolton Wanderers. Not a fan, but after watching my home team beat them in a friendly earlier this year, I was hoping they would go on and as least be a mid-table team and make our win more respectable, but now it looks like we just beat a shitty team. Kudos for Klasnic’s performance with them, though.
Moment of the year – Modric’s rip from like 25 yrds out to get the scoring started against Israel. That was sick. Changed the game.
Statement of the year – I’m going to have to come back to this one.
Best Prva Generacija Personality: Ziva Istina – c’mon, he’s the man everyone likes to hate 😉 informative posts, good sense of humor and a good snarky comment or two to always spice things up 😉 A close second have to be Ante & Denis
Line of the Year: Gotta quote Lebo and the legend Drago Cosic
“Jedan nulla! jedan nulla! Ivica Olic, druga minuta!”
I think after that goal, the Croatian nation took a big sigh of relief that the boys came to Istanbul to play and play we did.
Moment of the year: obviously qualifying for the Euro’s vs. the Turks. I think an honorable mention is needed for finding out the WC Qualifying draw. Even though it’s still a ways away and only qualifiers playing Serbia home and away with be the matches of the decade. Up there with actual Euro and WC group stage and playoff round games.
Biggest bust: ALL our youngsters on the back line. Personally, I had and still do have high hopes for Vida, Lovren, Vrsajlko, Strinic & Pamic. I was really hoping by now that they would own that backline a bit more. Years ago our backline was our strength (Simic, Tudor, Robi Kovac, Bilic, Stimac, etc.) and in recent years, we’ve definitely seen some glaring holes back there, but I was just hoping by Euro 2012, this new crew would be a little more settled in, a bit more seasoned and ready to anchor that backline with Charlie. I know it’ll come in due time, but I was hoping to have that backline a bit more shored up some the Euro.
1) CroatianSports.com MVP: Unknown – whomever had the most to do with the new website
2) CroatianSports.com Rookie of the Year: O’Haravic
3) Best Prva Generacija Personality: Svircic
4) Biggest Bust: Lovren – responsible for so many goals against us and club
5) Moment of the Year: Obviously qualifying for Euros after missing out on the WC. Runner up – Stipe signing (Rostov or not, we needed him to be playing)
6) Line of the Year: “Not surprised… He’d be lucky to play in an adult league here in NY” nepoznat re: Runje being jobless 10/2011 (can you even vote for yourself? well I just did)
BTW, i’m going to try to keep this name now. It’s my Twitter name and blog name, so no more name changes. This is going to stick although if Kranjcar starts playing better then I might add a little 19 to it,
MVP: Denis Svircic: The man is consistent and is great at what he does. Ante may have a bit more charisma, but Denis is much more professional and easier to understand. Great work by both of you men. You guys should be considered messiahs for Croatians.
Rookie Of The Year: I think I’m kind of a rookie, but I guess not. Anyway my pick would be Colin. Sorry Crippler, I need to see you post about actual soccer before you get my voice. it’s like your boy in the octagon, I need to see more from him to give him huge praise. Your still the man Crippler, but Colin The Doctor O Hara is my pick. Consistent poster and that Klasnic interview was epic.
3. Goldenchild that means so much. Thank you very much sir. Best Personality/ Poster: Wow not a lot of options, hope i’m in the running for this. I’m very reluctant to pick Ziva Istina even though he’s probably the most popular guy on the forum regardless of being liked or hated. Yet I’m going to pick Ziva istina because nobody really brings it with the personality like him. He’s arrogant but like Ante says, people read and people look to see what he says. Step your game up in 2011 posters, need some personality. Goldenchild I was going to pick you for your epic performance after the Greece game, but it wouldn’t make much sense since you called yourself a bust.
Biggest Bust: For an athlete, I’m going to have to go with Jelavic. Lovern is going to be a popular pick and I get that, but I didn’t have huge hopes for him. Jelavic on the other hand was a guy that I thought would be starting in critical games. With his skill, i was thinking this guy is going to score a huge goal some time in qualifiers. It never happened against Greece or Israel. Then he played garbage time against Turkey. I really hyped him up too, but wow Jelavic let me down.
As you know when i post, their always has an edge to it and their is some controversy. My pick for buster is Mr. Fistonic. He rarely posts and when he does, it’s usually ripping Kranjcar or saying where is the like button, the guy just ripped Kranjcar. Fisto your not bringing it buddy, where are you? I do thank you for the shout out against Greece, it was very kind. But please, lay off Niko’s nuts for a little bit. I’ve laid off them for the last few months, but your still having that problem.
5. The Olic goal was nice but my moment of the year was Modric’s goal against Israel. It was the start of a huge 2nd half and helping Croatia not be embarrassed at home by Israel. It also saved the qualifying campaign.
6. I jut realized I forgot the last line. HANDS DOWN, THIS BETTER WIN IT. “I watch highlights of 1998 team then I cry because were nowhere near that team anymore”- Goldenchild after Croatia’s loss to Greece. That is when I became the biggest Golden Child fan because I said the exact quote after Greece’s 2nd goal
My awards will be on VIA VIDEO next week sometime. I’m aiming for Monday but could be Wednesday. Stay Tuned
I like to start by saying i’m forming a lawsuit against you guys. This was my idea to do this and I’m unhappy with this. Just kidding, i’ll still be doing video next week called “The CROATIAN INNOVATE AWARDS”!! Live on video next week, hopefully this time my voice is louder. Nevertheless thanks for setting this up and I’ll be doing my awards now.
1) MVP’s gotta go to braco. Brane not only does great art direction and editing for the site, but he pulled off 2 fantastic videos this year: Israel match and asked who the real Rnk Split fan is.
2) Crippler hands down. Colin had a fantastic interview with Klasnic but I gotta go with Rozic. He’s only been with us for 2 months and look what he’s already done. Can’t wait to see what he can do with a full year under his belt.
3) Best personality is Ziva Istina. No matter what you think of him, when he types…everyone reads. End of story.
4) This one is easy for me. Biggest bust has to be Srdjan Lakic. The man lit it up for Kaiserslautern last year and ever since his move to Wolfsburg has not even been able to get minutes. Was close to getting time on the national team, now he’s miles away.
5) Moment of the Year: When Corluka beat the Turkish defender and Olic tapped in. It didnt just change the game, but the entire tie. Thank you Corluka/Olic combo! Commentator was a legend during that call.
6) Best Line: “I’m Ziva Istina, and you’re not!”
Ill contribute to that 100!
Alright, this has the potential to get nasty so I’m gonna try and stay civilized here.
#5)This one is easy…11/11/11 ISTANBUL!
(I feel like a Liverpool fan with all the times I’ve mentioned Istanbul to neutral fans)
#4)DinamoZagreb
From management, to those last few results in Europe.
It’s become embarrassing to be a fan…
#3)Kinda hurts to say, but I’m goin with Ziva Istina.
Always soccer related with a touch of gossip.
#2)Gotta be The Crippler!
#1)I’m going with 1 of the Kvartuc brothers cuz I dig your names!
ATTENTION CROATIANSPORTS NATION!!!!!!
You will want to see Matt’s drunken video!!! He mentions almost everyone on the site. It’s hilarious.
Let’s get to 100 comments by Friday morning…cutoff is 9AM (Pacific) then we can all laugh at him….
Worth your comment. Let’s do this.
moment of the year: beating turkey 3-0!!!!
MVP: Branimir Kvartuc.
Putting together all of our videos. Getting on field access at Maksimir. Putting together all of our connections in Hrvatska. Being the best fucking behind the scenes man ever.
Rookie of the Year: CroatianCrippler
Did not think we’d do anything more out of soccer, but he’s definitely brought some life into the MMA world. I already see him chatting with fighters on Twitter, and his last interview sealed the deal for me. Keep it up. Happy to see a fan, originally, turn into someone is providing that much more to make us better. Fuccckinn canadians man, gotta love em.
Personality: Visual: Allen Outraged, Overjoyed, who the fuck knows Posts: Ziva Istina/Ivica
His last video. That’s aIl I have to say about that.
Ziva is always a fun post to read, but I have to say Ivica is creeping up on my list of consistent reads.
Biggest Bust: TheGoldenChild
Athlete: Lovren- I was hoping he’d be an answer for our defense. I was proven seriously wrong.
Thought I was going to offer more, then I got a job. Got a lot to prove next year.
Moment of the year:
The site launching and my birthday video. If we reach 100 comments by Friday morning, I’ll allow Ante to post the video. You can then all laugh at the shit that came out of my mouth.
Quote of the year:
JEDAN NULLAAAAA JEDANNN NULLLAA IVICA OLIC DRUGA MINUTA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBCegm-O9AY
