Ok, sometimes when I order shirts online they tend to run small which is why I’m asking. I am a big fella that normally fits in a large, but starts to look like a little debelusko if it runs small! Is it cotton?…and are all colors still available?

Despite that I will not apologize for anything I wrote about you in the past. I know a Croatian guy from Pedro who served in the Navy as well. He did his basic training near Chicago and served in Japan and the Middle East. Unlike you, he stayed pretty head strong and didn’t become self loathing. I think he’s somewhere on the East Coast now. For a second I thought it was you but this guy is a hardcore hajdukovac.
My next point: I live in California and I think you are off your rocker if you think people have a fuck NY attitude and that it’s not part of the US? Many Croats from Dalmatia and Istria were forcibly conscripted into the Italian Navy during WW2. I have a Great Uncle that spent almost a decade in a South American prison while his family in Croatia assumed he was dead.
Coincidentally, that man’s son became a great soccer player and captained Rijeka.
When east coasters go into the US Navy (enlisted men), they all get lumped into the NewYorker category. Country boys from Sussex/Hunterdon NJ or Pennsylvania get classified as New Yorkers or called “Brooklyn” less than affectionately.

Have you ever lived outside of New York? Have you ever had friends outside of NY? If you have, you know that most Americans (from all over the country) don’t consider New York to be America, but most likely the exact opposite, an island unto itself with it’s own way of doing things, ‘different’ people and customs. To most, when people from the US talk of America, they talk about small town America, with people who have been living in this country for 5-6-7 generations, not 1 or 2 like most of us on this site.

It’s pretty sad to hear some of the stuff you say. No one is saying you have to walk around with a Croatian flag or jersey on 24/7, hailing the greatness of Croatia. But jeez, at least be somewhat proud of your heritage and at least make attempts to learn some customs, culture and maybe some language? Even if you don’t know Croatian, try listening to some music at least and then translating the lyrics to songs you actually like. For soccer news, use the Google Translate page and read sites like SN, Slobodna Dalmacija (since your a dirty dalmo 😉 )and others and read the English and then see what the actual Croatian is. Just by doing these things, I picked up a lot – not to the point where I’d like to be (100% fluent) but at least I can understand basic convos, get the gist of what an article or newspaper article is saying. I feel you on dealing with the old men too, but if you find the right one, they usually have some pretty good advice and interesting things to say.
And a little personal note: saying you “don’t have time” is a bad excuse. Aren’t you a college student?! lol Think you don’t have any time now, wait until you have a gf, work a 9-5 and have a bunch of shit on your plate haha.

I’m from Toronto (which is not a bad city at all), but I still think NYC destroys Toronto in almost every facet.
People hate on New York yet when people talk America, they talk New York!! I may not root for the sport teams (which is a crime to some people because sports means life oh my god!!) but I love NY and sure we have our problems, but it’s a hell lot better than irrelevant and nothing to do New Jersey.

lol Whitestone, currently in Astoria though. There weren’t any projects by me. Once you get into Flushing, Elmhurst, Jackson Heights, etc. jebiga, some blocks and parts are flat out horrible.
By NYC I mean Manhattan, but the outer boroughs have their fair share of both as well.
My favorite part of NYC is the massive amounts of rats in every street/building. I also love how there are housing projects peppering almost every neighborhood.

I grew up in a pretty clean, quiet and overall nice neighborhood in Northeastern Queens. NYC is pretty varied; you have some neighborhoods where mansions on the water go for millions, there is no crime, no filth, etc. But then of course you have complete dumps where crime is high, it’s filthy and you can find basement apartments for like $550/month. Have some family in northern NJ – nice places, just not my cup of tea.

From my understanding, we (Croatia) will have our own page amongst the 16 teams on soccernet (ESPN FC) for Euro 2012. The dude from ESPN told me we can upload anything we want, including content, articles, video whenever we want upon their approval. I assume as soon as a game is over, we will write the story and send it to them to apply.
Not a bad gig as we’re already doing it anyways. They pick super-fans from the 16 countries to send them content. I sent them a link to CroSports. That was the end of the conversation. My goal is to drive traffic to CroSports this summer.
I have been advised by a fellow ESPN writer to put the full story on CroSports and give ESPN the shorter version. Standard procedure.
Rob Uvanovic will be in Poland during the tournament. If he’s up to it, I think we could get some really great footage of fans etc to show the world.

Ziva – I’m in my early 40’s…I love being Croatian and have a huge sense of pride for our people. when I was 17 – 19 I lived there…saw a lot of things…and believe me I saw a lot of things…I was only 1 of maybe 3 guys that wore a crucifix on my team (i was living and playing soccer amongst hrvati, muslimane and cedo’s)…Tito was everywhere (his picture i mean) and I couldnt believe what I was experiencing because from how I was raised…we came from a different planet. but i realized something after many months…that was their life…thats was their environment…they didnt know differently and if they tried to change things they ended up with huge problems…in short…i learned not to judge why people did what they did…some people had to and I could care less…i dont like yugo’s, commies and especially those serbs who pretend we are all the same…since hrvatska has been free I love us as a people and i love our passion to let everyone know we are HRVATI…so i just cant stand when someone is being called a commie! my father’s family suffered like hell in slavonija because of the communists…his whole family lost what was theirs for generations and it all went to the commies…he was in jail several times and his uncle died because he was an ustasa! you dont know people’s story’s…they can be far more dramatic than what I just mentioned…so imagine if you called a guy a commie and his family went through hell because of the communists?

The last thing I want to do is talk about soccer formations and how using a 4-2-3-1 or a modified 4-1-3-2 (but any day you want to discuss, go ahead.) is better than the other. But, back to your question….yeah, I wrote it….Boduli have a reputation of being the biggest commie lovers from back in the day. So, you have a friend from Korcula….well, good for you. So do I – and I have a bunch of friends who are from the islands or their families are from the islands. I’ve been to Korcula along with many of the other islands in Cro; great time. But, I still bust their balls for once being commie-lovers.
@Ivica……you gave me a nice chuckle when you mentioned Siroki Brijeg. Always had a good time there, but that city (if we want to call it that) might be the largest selo in the world. Amazing how a selo can become a grad. But they love their serbo-turbo music in Siroki.
And you are correct. Siroki is part of Bosna. Once the hercegovci realize this and start paying more attention to the government in Sarajevo and less attention to the government in Zagreb, things will begin to function much better.

He calls me a Partizan and a lazy Dalmtinac even though my family is probably more right wing and hardworking than his is.

I’m just enjoying the ride. This little website has come a long, long way since its inception in December of 2007. I couldn’t be happier with it.
I wish I could just sit at home all day, watch soccer, report on it and upload some videos. What a dream job. Maybe I’ll get to Zagreb in the next 24 months. Imagine what I could do from there. Exclusive interviews on a weekly basis.

Tudor was probably one of the most physically gifted and talented defenders we’ve produced; tall, quick, good in the air, could contribute on the attack if needed. But #1 it was well documented how the Kovac brothers DID NOT like him and those 2 were the heart and leadership of the team for most of the 2000’s. #2 Like Ziva said, he’s a damn Spilican, what do you expect?!? 😀 not all Hrvati can be even keeled, scholarly and good looking Istrian like myself 😉 lol

Tudor was and is a head case for many reasons:
1. grew up in Split (that would do it for most)
2. never bought into the team atmosphere with the repka
3. ask the Kovac brothers what they think of. Had issues throughout and almost came to a big fight at the 06 WC

Giovanni Rosso LOL talk about a blast from the past… He reminds me of that Euro 2004 squad and the complete lack of talent we had on that squad. People think we’re thin going into this Euro, people need to take a look at some of the scrubs we sent to Portugal that year: Rosso, Ivica Mornar, Stjepan Tomas, Mato Neretljak, etc. and the even though he was talented, the headcase of alllllll headcases, Igor Tudor.

everytime champions, euro or wc rolls around i get stuck listening to canadian commentators, theyre the worst, so boring and no passion and everything is too censored
