CroatianSports.com would like to invite our readers to join us in Dubrovnik this summer for the World Cup!
HNL writer Colin O’ Haravić and myself will be in Dubrovnik the week of June 22nd for the Croatia v. Mexico match (June 23rd) and our friends at the Royal Princess Hotel would like to help accommodate any CroatianSports.com alumni should they be in town.
We are calling this “Your Croatian vacation away from your Croatian vacation.” We know it sometimes gets stuffy hanging out in the selo with baba, so this would be a good opportunity to get out of town, come to Dubrovnik and have a beer with the boys during the World Cup.
If you are interested, please contact me at Ante@CroatianSports.com for booking information. If you’ve already made plans to be in Dubrovnik during this time, please send me an email as well.
Wish i could be there with U Guys !! What a Beautiful Place , next to Our Split !! Have a Great Time ! Bog , Hrvati , USA , Hajduk , i HNS !!!
I hear you.
ultimately, it is on him. No question.
I just put more blame on the actual guy who was on the field and acted like a 10-yr at a youth league game.
lol
yeah sure, blame it on the official if it makes you feel better, the coach needs to be in control and he wasn’t
Bilic was going for a change not right after the goal, but the next whistle after the goal. A change right after the goal would not have done anything, play was still dead following the celebration.
He and his assitants had the paperwork ready and filled out, but it was the UEFA delegate and the 4th official who screwed it up.
Rakitic’s sin was far greater.
well it doesn’t say much when you want to take Bilic over what we had in the recent years (stimac), the bar is pretty low
also if you watch the video when we scored Bilic should of been in the officials ear asap for the change instead waiting till play started while still rolling around on the field with our players
@Armada, many feel the same way
Well, I’ll take Bilic any day over what we have had in recent years. That 2008 tea played the best soccer we have witnessed since the 96-98 squad.
Either way Rakitic’s failure to know how to kill a game in 2008 was a meltdown. Kids at the U-14 level are thought how to kill a game and anyone with a high soccer IQ should know what to do. Injury time, up a goal, single elimination tourney…..not hard to figure out what to do.
After all those years, I still can’t watch that Turkey game. I can watch the France semifinal, I can watch the Spain game, but the Turkey game…. uffff
not at all, Bilic is still an idiot and that sub thing had nothing to do with it
I assume you guys are blaming Bilic for not getting the sub ready. he had the sub ready to go, it was the fourth official and the UEFA delegate who were slow with the paperwork. They even said so in the review process a short time after the Euros.
Listen, we all want Rakitic to excel wit the repka. He hasn’t so far. When he does, I will be the first to praise him. I can only go by what I see. No filters with me.
Bilic was an idiot but Rakitic made a grave error which cost us big time. In a way they both cost us the game. Rakitic has this world cup coming up to prove what he does at club level can be produced at country level. I hope he succeeds.
@ živa
Actually In 2008 he was 20 and it was Bilic who was jumping around like an idiot after the Klasnić goal.
He played well against Spain and missed a tough header that is not his forte. Get over it. Like when little Suzy told you in middle school that you are a đubre.
Touch to play well when your coach is a nimrod.
Raktic has had a solid career on the repka. Now he will take it to a new level.
Put on those glasses that Ćorluka likes for you to wear, call up Livaja and assume the position.
Why don’t you go watch it with sammirs dick up your ass.
Macedonia???????? Really?????? That is the game you want to praise Rakitic for. That is what you are going to use as your defining moment for Rakitic with the repka. OK then, go right ahead. The rest of us will just laugh at your analysis. Even people who hate me on this site can’t come to terms and agree with you. Again, remove the homer glasses and the vision becomes much, much clearer.
Dude, do you really watch soccer or know anything about it. I’m serious. You come off as a 14-yr old with your soccer talk.
Right now, Rakitic will be known for two things with the repka: the disgrace of a header he had at Euro 2012 against Spain and fucking around and not knowing soccer 101 on how to kill a game in injury time at Euro 2008 against Turkey.
And if you want to refer to my comment last year about Modric being a bust…..well, at the time I said it, I was correct. he was playing like a bust. he even admitted so after the year. here is how I view soccer and its players……..i can only go by what I see. And what I have witnessed from Rakitic at the repka level does not come close to matching his play for Sevilla. Not even the biggest Rakitic jock sniffer can argue with that.
Btw Ziva- not sure what we can call the type of goal Jelavic scored today… Did you see it?
@ živa
“Hasn’t occurred …”
His play v Makedonija put is into play-offs.
“Modrić Is a bust…”
Basement pizda .
SoulChamp- when Rakitic strings together 2 solid games in a row for the NT then I’ll relax with my comments about him, until then he has been a disappointment for us!
There are no Rakitic “haters”. Only those of us waiting for him to pick up his play for the repka. It hasn’t occurred at the international level.
@mali i jadan ziva istina
Relax dude don’t get your panties in a bunch. Smell the fresh air and don’t take everything so seriously… it’s okay to joke around every once a while
@C v A
Wow!
How that guy got anyone to print that is beyond me.
He lost me at #5 – Dejan Lovren
Then again at #3 – Strong and Experienced Squad
And finally #2 – Strikers. “We have goals at our disposal.” Really?! did he not notice how much we struggled to score in qualifying?…
^ ^
I definitely wont say “I knew it all along.”
In fact it boggles my mind that his lazy ass is captain of Sevilla!
RAKITIĆ !!!
Wow .
He will become our new captain for Euro 2016, after he leads us to the second round this summer.
Then I am going to hear about how all the haters knew it all along.
Dimwit basement dwellers who lack clear vision.
Dude is a stud.
Kovač will bring out the best in him for the vatreni .
Drmic woukd have been another Swiss coup but all stručnjaku knew better.
Nothing better then goats attempting to lead a modern nation state.
Sramota.
Either this is an extreme case of homer googles or it’s the prediction of the century, but this American website gives 5 reasons why Croatia will win the WC.

@ Ziva
Peter Schmeichel certainly won’t be coming to Suker’s defense.
Eduardo with a goal and an assist today in Ukrainian Cup action.
Suker will have always have a defense for the rest of his life.
Much like diplomatic immunity.
2 words, 1 hyphenated…
NINETEEN NINETY-EIGHT!
I would love for someone, anyone to defend Puppet Suker. Go ahead, @Jojj, the floor is yours as they say.
Davor Suker is a legend
everything mali i jadan ziva istina is saying is wrong
Rakitic, dat flick!!! Dat flick!!! 😀
Really hope athletico win la Liga and knock out barcelona.
Sick move from rakitic on sevillas go ahead goal.
Wow!
Atletico Madrid winning La Liga is fast becoming a possibility…
Rakitic with a great that lead to a goal. Play of the week material. Now, only if we could see that Rakitic for the repka. Sadly, we have not. All we have witnessed from him is pedestrian play and bad hair.
I see Jelavic scored today. ANyone got video or watched it? Was it an Olic-style tap in?
FYI Real playing Seville right now. Great hug between Luka and Ivan at the beginning of the game during the hand shakes.
.
@ horvat
i don’t really put any blame on drmic. the guy expressed his interest strongly. so did his family. they made several attempts to contact the hns. not a peep back. then once the swiss forced his hand with the call up, him and his family still waited several days for the hns to at least call up and say, “hey, we can’t call you up, but we know who you are. you’re on our radar atleast.” but he got silence
he was born in switzerland, grew up there, played for the youth sides, and family still lives there. he has a career that he still had to take care of. and rejecting a swiss call up for another repka that has not even acknowledged your existence, eventually doesn’t make much sense.
shame on the hns. not drmic
I know of one such gentleman from NYC who did and I laugh at him religiously to his face about it every time he comes out to Cali.
Puppet Suker is who we think he is……an idiot.
Heck, a few years ago when he was running his soccer camps in the NY City area he was selling national team gear and his own gear from the truck of his rental car.
Don’t know what is more pathetic, Puppet Suker doing that or the people who actually purchased the items.
Drmic scored again today.
The savez is partly to blame for not at least contacting this kid. However, he is more to blame for not waiting for Croatia.
He and his family were delusional if they were expecting Stimac to call him up when Switzwerland first did. Cro had a bunch of good strikers at the time. There was no way they were going to call up some kid who was only a prospect at the time.
yeah I agree but he hasn’t been on the bench for quite a while so I am hopeful he may start getting some time on the field!
@Armada……….true, just being on the bench is getting halilovic to brazil.
on the bench?
hell, if that’s the case, he should start vs. Brazil
Radosevic is finally on the bench for Napoli today!
Zlatko Bagaric used to be The Boss in ZG, and before that – in what was once West Germany.
He was a decent man, in a Tony Soprano kind of way.
lol
Suker was always involved with the ZG underground even as a player. Like Dr P said, he even got busted in D
I don’t know much about him as a person and to be honest, I have little time to want to know. I’m not so sure I’m even proud to know that one of Croatia’s best eleven is a crooked thief with little values and morals…its depressing to learn some of these things.
I mentioned I’ve know many players from my past…never met anyone quite like this, Goran Juric was a head case but that was the worst I personally knew…Suker makes most guys look like saints!
Suker WAS busted in Germany for attempting to lift and sell those rare coins. That’s about the only thing that’s proven and verifiable from the entire article.
All else in that article is hearsay, rumor and gossip – much of which is likely true.
Dnevno.hr/rs is itself a suspect media project with shad(ow)y backing and often reports the same stories with different slants, depending which of the Balkan Dnevnos you’re reading. The Serbian or Croatian version.
lol
usually, there is. But, in Cro, people in position of power have the means to get back at someone for writing something like this.
Those who know Puppet Suker even a bit, know full well this is an accurate description of him.
That assassination piece on Suker probably holds many truths, but it’s still an assassination piece. And published by “dnevno.hr,” one side of the dnevno.rs (republika Srbija)/dnevno.hr media coin.
Dnevno.hr is like the National Enquirer or Globe.
Suker – broke? Probably not. But definitely not as wealthy as he used to be. Many ex-vatreni have the same problem. Many former professional athletes have the same problem. No surprise there.
Many of them (including Stimac) seek to cling to the HNS cash-cow.
I respect Suker for what he did on the soccer field (probably the greatest Croatian soccer player of all time), I don’t really care what he’s like off the field. That said, he should be held accountable for any misdeeds while heading the HNS.
To ask for integrity and honor from ex-Vatreni or any other Croatian sports stars is more often than not just asking for too much. Aside from being good at sports, they’re just ordinary people and are as corruptible as the next guy.
It all seems strange knowing that Croatia is bursting at the seams with incorruptible men of integrity. L O L
I wonder why there is no author listed for the writeup? interesting and most likely much of what was written is true but I always get suspicious when we dont know who wrote it…is there some motive…is this partial truth?
Stayed here for my honeymoon, absolutely excellent hotel!!
Just that first line…
Bio je zlatna kopačka, nogometni idol, a danas je moralna nakaza, gnjusni kamatar, bestidni kradljivac zlatnina..
haha couldn’t of said it any better…
Away from baba in the selo? What’s that?
Signed,
ZGees
Friends, for those of you who can read the mother language i encourage you to read the following. This shows what kind of animal SPuppet Suker really is. And those of you who are jock sniffers and wear jerseys with another man’s name on it should really read this and see how Puppet Suker takes advantage of you and your kind.

See, when the repka does fail, it makes it much easier to stomach it when you realize they are faling because someone like this is placed in a postion of power. That is why it was so easy to laugh and shake my head in approval when the repka was struggling with Strucnjak Stimac. Puppet Suker makes me feel the same way.
But, I’m willing to bet many of you don’t care and would run for the chance to have a picture with this clown.
I couldn’t disagree more! The more NT games the better IMHO
I like the current system now…. Part of the allure of watching NT games is that they aren’t on that much. Every 2 years is a major tournament, every qualifying cycle you have 2-3 big time, must see games. I get my fill of Modric, Rakitic, Mandzukic, Srna, Lovren via their league play and European competitions. I like it that way. Occasionally we have a snoozer vs. San Marino or Luxembourg that’s a guaranteed win.
Can’t see any of the club teams being in favor of this. After all, it is the clubs who pay these players and then have to deal with injuries and recovery when they come back from international duty.
If I was a major club, I would pay my star players extra money for them to retire from national team play. I doubt many would do this because of the backlash they would get from their fans back home, but it is something i would really do. if i were Real Madrid, I would give Ronaldo and extra 2-3 million per year for him not to play for Portugal.
@ bjorn
nationas tournament sounds fun to watch but i hope they don’t do it. you overdue these major tournaments and they begin to lose there meaning. in a similar way, you bring everyone into the european championship, making it there and the qualifying campaign no longer mean much

OT from this particular thread. Don’t know how I feel about this idea, guess we’ll have to wait and see on the details..

In case any jock sniffers sign up for it, you may be able to catch glimpses of Mark Viduka in DU. He is usually down there that time of year on his boat.
Živjeli !
Dubrovnik is where I had my honey moon.
You boys are doing it right.
Sretan put.
Oh,I would LOVE to be there with you guys!..Živjeli
