Cibalia Vinkovci 2-2 Dinamo Zagreb

Dinamo Zagreb missed a golden opportunity Saturday night to go into the 10-week winter break with some momentum and an eight-point lead on Hajduk Split atop the HNL table. Instead, they were shocked by an 87th minute equalizer from Cibalia’s Dino Kresinger to chop the points. Early in the first half, both sides had solid scoring opportunities as Kresinger shot just past the post and a Sammir free kick plunked off the left post for Dinamo. Cibalia finally capitalized off a Dinamo defensive blunder in the 20th minute when Ivan Koledić one-timed a pass from inside the box to the far post to beat Dinamo keeper Ivan Kelava. Shortly after, Sammir hit the exact same spot on the post a second time.
Cibalia went into the break up 1-0 but Dinamo got on the board in the 53rd minute when teenage substitute Mateo Kovačić dribbled the ball from 40 yards out to lace a 19-yard shot from the top up the box to make it 1-1. The kid’s confidence is growing and he could develop into an incredible player for the Croatian national side in the upcoming years. Dinamo got the lead they were looking for in the 75′ when Luis Ibanez struck a free kick around the wall. It looked as if the current Croatian champions would go into the winter break with a victory but the tall Kresinger headed home a corner kick in the 87′ to save Cibalia in a 2-2 draw.
Hajduk Split 1-0 NK Zadar

Hajduk Split have narrowed their deficit behind Dinamo Zagreb to six points going into the winter break with a narrow 1-0 win over NK Zadar on Sunday afternoon. After a scoreless first half, Hajduk finally got on the board when Anas Sharbini just got enough on the ball from a right-sided cross to beat the Zadar goalie inside the left post. Hajduk, by no means, are crushing teams in the HNL this season. They look good to finish second and grab a Europa League berth for next season, but will they have enough in the tank to chase down Dinamo for a league title?

Slaven Belupo 2-0 Rnk Split
Saturday night’s game between Slaven Belupo and Rnk Split in Koprivnica started with fireworks as Split’s Ante Vitaić was red carded in just the third minute of play for elbowing Josip Brezovec in the face after he tried to take the ball out of his arm following a stoppage in play. Split manager Tonći Bašić was also kicked out of the match for yelling obscenities at the referee. With a one/man advantage, Tomislav Bušić picked up the trash in front of the net in the 24th minute after a jumble in the box to give Belupo a 1-0 lead. Goran Mujanović would double the lead in the 59th minute after converting a long break away from midfield.
There was no return for Rnk Split after ex-Croatia international defender Ivica Križanac was sent off in the 66′ for his second yellow of the match after mouthing off to the ref. With the win, Slaven Belupo now sit tied with Rnk Split with 31 points- fighting for Croatia’s last Europa League spot.
NK Lokomotiva 2-0 Inter Zaprešić
NK Lokomotiva cruised to a 2-0 victory over Inter Friday night in Zagreb with goals by Mislav Komorski and captain Nino Bule. It’s disappointing for Inter after already defeating Hajduk this season and playing Dinamo extremely tough. Going into the winter break, Lokomotiva look safe to play in the Prva Liga next season with 25 points while Inter stay on 24 through the 10-week winter break.
NK Osijek 2-1 NK Istra 1961

Osijek played to a convincing win Sunday night over Istra and now only find themselves fived points out of a Europa League spot next season. For Istra, it’s the opposite story as they sit five points behind a safe spot to stay in the Prva Liga next campaign. Istra opened up the scoring in the first half when Roce scored in the 35th minute but Osijek quickly responded with a goal from Gavrić only two minutes later. With the game tied up at 1-1 late in the second half, Osijek’s Barišić put away the gamewinner in the 80th minute to take maximum points going into the cold winter break.
NK Varaždin 2-1 HNK Šibenik

Šibenik just can’t catch a break this season. After going up early on a Jakoliš second minute goal, the Dalmatinci gave up two second half goals to Varaždin to help them to only their second win of the season through 17 games. Vugrinec converted a penalty shot in the 59th minute while Sacer scored the game winner in the 83rd. Both these clubs sit bottom of the HNL table and without a doubt should be playing in the Druga Liga next season.
Lučko 1-1 NK Rijeka
Rijeka got off on the right foot Saturday with a first half goal by Mance in the 28th minute. However, newly promoted first division club Lučko had other plans as striker Novak equalized in the 62nd minute of play to force a draw. Rijeka remain midtable while Lučko sit seven points behind a safespot in the HNL table going into the winter break.
Karlovac 3-3 NK Zagreb
It was a slugfest in Karlovac Saturday night as both Zagreb and Karlovac scored three goals to chop the points. After sitting out the came versus Rijeka early in November, Karlovac showed up with goals by Novinić, Sopčić and Barišić. The latter two goals were scored in the last 11 minutes to stun Zagreb and force a draw. Karlovac remain deep in the relegation zone while Zagreb find themselves five points clear going into the break.
