We were all introduced to 16 year-old Donna Vekić at this year’s Australian Open after her first round victory over Andrea Hlaváčková; before being ousted by #10 Caroline Wozniacki in the second round. But it looks as if Croatian tennis has even more to celebrate on the women’s side in the upcoming years.
15 year-old Dubrovnik native Ana Konjuh not only took the girls doubles title at this year’s Aussie Open, but she defeated #2 ranked Kateřina Siniaková 6-3, 6-4 Saturday afternoon in Melbourne to win the girls singles championship as well. This is Konjuh’s greatest achievement thus far in her young career as she and doubles parter, Canadian Carol Zhao, took the girls doubles title on Friday. Konjuh lost the girls doubles final at Wimbledon in 2012, alongside partner Belinda Bencic.
Do Croatian tennis fans finally have something to be excited about on the women’s side?
@Vince
To many get pregnant and then have to drop out.
Would be good to see where the top 10 female players were at the same age.. I seem to see allot of junior champions dissapear.

Nice result, but it hardly means guarenteed success on the senior level. want proof???? Go look at the winners of the 97 and 98 junior titles at the Australian Open. Both were Croatian and didn’t do much on the senior tour.
Either way, great result.
