23 year-old Borna Ćorić is finally off to his first career Grand Slam quarterfinal. After a four and a half 5-set win over #4 Stefanos Tsitsipas Friday night, Ćorić made quick work of unseeded Jordan Thompson Sunday evening; winning easily in straight sets.
Ćorić will now face #5 Alexander Zverev Tuesday in the US Open quarterfinals. With Novak Djoković being disqualified Sunday for hitting a linesman in the throat with a tennis ball, the draw is now wide open for a brand new player to be crowned Grand Slam champion. Zverev could very well be Ćorić’s toughest remaining test in the tournament, and if he can get a quarterfinal win, will be booming with confidence moving forward.
Ćorić has under-performed for the past two years, but this quarterfinal appearance will get his career back on track.
