Borna Ćorić is cruising in Cincinnati! He took out #7 Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets Friday night, 6-4 6-4, and will now face #9 Englishman Cameron Norrie in the semifinals.
After playing only nine professional matches in 2021 due to injury, 25 year-old Borna Ćorić is making a late splash in 2022 as he regains his form. Wednesday night at the Cincinnati Masters 1000 tournament, Ćorić took down #2 Rafael Nadal (arguably the greatest tennis player of all time with 22 Grand Slam titles) in three sets: 7-6, 4-6, 6-3. Thursday afternoon, he did it again by beating #15 Roberto Bautista Agut in straight set: 6-2, 6-3.
The win over Rafa will be a huge confidence boost going into the US Open next month. Borna Ćorić has been dubbed the next big name in tennis but hasn’t got out of the gate in his career due to injuries. Will he ever meet the expectations given to him by the tennis world? Will he ever win a Grand Slam like Ivanišević and Čilić have in the past? Will he ever crack the top-10 in world tennis rankings? (#12 was his highest rank)
We shall see. But this week was an incredible step in the right direction. Ćorić faces Canadian #7 Felix Auger-Aliassime in the quarterfinals of the Cincinnati Masters Friday evening.
Coric just won the finals! Congrats to him on a fantastic tournament! Hopefully he can build.of.this he beat some tough opponents.
Coric off to semi final
Good stuff
Coric has struggled big time for the last six months since returning from a year long stint on the sidelines due to shoulder operation. Lets hope that this is the turning point for him. He plays well in USA, having won the junior US Open.
The other Borna is off to pommy land
Oh boy

All is well
Man we would be in glory on the forum for a while
Filip Hrgovic beats Zheng for direct Heavyweight Title bout.
And the Sinkovic braca win gold all over the rowing world
Hopefully Coric can make a splash at the US Open and perhaps propel the national football club into a deep, deep World Cup Finals in Nov.
I think it’s great for Borna Coric hopefully he can pull of a win in this tournament. But one thing, how come nothing was mentioned on the site about Petra Matric winning the Swiss Open??? Does that tourney not matter?? Maybe I overlooked it, but I didn’t see anything.
Not done on purpose. Just missed this one. CroatianSports has never been tennis heavy. But I try to cover Davis Cup, the grand slams, and the Masters 1000 tournaments. We just haven’t been that good across the board lately minus Cilic French semi and Pavic/Mektic in doubles.
That’s ok Ante
We understand
No worries, just thought I would throw it in there. It was a huge win for her, and as mentioned by Z below, Sandra Perkovic was also one that I was reading about earlier as well.
I’m also dismayed by the lack of female sports coverage.
I’ve mentioned Sandra perkovic mant a time noboby pays attention. Football, football etc. Other sports matter.
Didn’t she just win a euro gold for like the seventh straight time or something incredible?
He also has a winning record v Nadal (3-2) which is very rare amongst active players. But yeah good to see him back and finally playing well again, still plenty of time in his career of he can stay fit to do some damage at the majors.
Hope he can ride this train and get into the top 10
Good for him, good for Croatia
And take some stress off of thinking who will start in goal for us;)
Yeah really, maybe Borna Coric can be in goal for us, he may have the right reflexes for a goalie. 🙂
