Marcelo Brozović and Inter Milan are headed to the Europa League Final to face Sevilla on Friday.
The Serie A runners-up thumped Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk 5-0 in the semifinal Monday. Brozović got credit for an assist on the second goal, delivering a corner kick which was headed home by Danilo d’Ambrosio. Inter Milan have been a juggernaut since the COVID restart and if they are able to pick up more fire power in the transfer window; they will be a difficult team to deal with, both in Italy and Champions League.
Both Inter Milan and Sevilla have already earned spots in next season’s Champions League group stage. However, the winner of the Europa League title game on Friday will be put in Pot 1 for CL seeding among Europe’s elite. At the end of the day, that’s more important than the Europa League trophy.
Match Highlights
The commentator said something like:
“Brozovic is the glue that holds inter’s midfield together”.
Brozovic was very solid today.
MID) Marcelo Brozovic
Retreated to pick up the ball and connected well with pretty much everybody. A fine job to keep the ball moving into space. His stellar corner kick cross led to the second goal.
I missed the match.
I am cherry picking or Brozovic bring it today?
Caleta-Car, Bradaric, and Pongracic play for top teams in the French Ligue1 and Bundesliga.
Two of them are getting Champions League games.
Our starters in those positions currently play for Zenit, Besiktas and Rangers.
I love the way Lovren, Vida and Barisic had been playing so far…but damn man, we’d be fools to overlook these youngsters over the next year or so.
I think we need to see what Pongracic can do in the back four ASAP. The dude has definitely earned it with his insanely good play in this league restart (and on a better team and league than most of our CBs).
Same goes for Domagoj Bradaric.
We’ve given Barisic the starting role, simply because he plays for a decent club (Rangers) and plays regularly.
He’s pretty solid back there…but he didn’t really have to work too hard to earn that starting role and is probably our least talented starting eleven player.
If we have a talented youngster, starting on a better team, in a better league, we MUST call him up and give him a try.
I’m hoping we see both Bradaric and Pongracic get some games in the Nations League.
Would be stupid if we burned the last Nations League with dumb experiments like Livaja, Cop, and Santini, but not actually experiment now when we have some serious youngsters coming up the ranks.
Bradaric got a red card in his last U21 match I’m pretty sure. Hence why he was on the senior team stand-by call-ups for the friendly tournament that was supposed to happen but not on them now. Suspended for competitive national team matches.
I’m happy to see Pongracic called up though. Has been doing well. Finally dropped Skoric. Melnjak is still there but I guess with Bradaric suspended and Sosa with the U21s he’s probably the best option as an out and out backup LB.
Uremovic is on the stand-by call-ups and can play RB. Would have liked to see him called up instead and just use Jedvaj as the backup LB if need be. But, overall I like the team and if they play like they want to win, they probably will as I still don’t think anyone cares about the Nations League.
Also, Ante Budimir is on the stand-by call ups. Unfortunate for him that Kramaric and Petkovic are around. He has had a good season and deserves to get a shot in a friendly or something. Maybe call up some extra players for the October friendly against Switzerland to give people like that a chance?

I called it not long ago. Tudor is an unstable person and Hajduk needs stability and a good leader!
Good news for Tudor.
Maybe taking a step into an assistant role for a big club will help him manage is over-the-top dramatic behavior (which is his biggest downfall as a coach).
He seems like he could become a good coach in the future, but maybe in another decade after he calms the fuck down a bit.
Anyone know why no Bardaric in the U21s?

This could be a good look for Tudor.
Inter will need Brozovic big time today.
As always Shakhtar is full off hungry Brazilians looking to get the hell of out eastern Ukraine.
Brozovic is due for a galasso.
He has been solid but not his dominant self.
Watching all these matches and seeing how many dum CDM like Vidal and Fred, you can see how valuable it is to have a guy that defends but also initiate offensive movement from the back.
Half the time I wonder if Brozovic has poise or is just disinterested?
