One suggestion. Can you make a video of the Croatian Harlem Shake while ya’ll are all together?
Congrats on 5 years, great job with the site.
@ jm
I agree, the same situation applies to basketball as well. And I’m sure basketball successes will continue going forward.
One of the issues with basketball is the coaching. The best coaches in basketball were Serbs.
@jack…..before his move to real Madrid, I thought modric was a top-tier player who could play for any club. I thought he was at good. It looks like I overestimated how good he is or can be. Still a damn god player, but proving not to be an elite player. I too think he could do well at man u or in Serie A.
@ croatia at antwerp
very interesting point about the effects of the war on croatia’s soccer talent. You would think the youth system was impaired probably from 91 all the way to a few years after the war, which would have definitely had an effect on the talent level of the country in the 2000s. Perhaps this can also help explain why croatia had gone from a place that produced really good basketball talent to going into a big drought in the 2000s and perhaps now we’re picking up again with croatian youth national teams winning european championships again.
tbh i dont care about club football whatsoever.. couldnt give a second toss about any clubs at all, really doesn’t interest me, only international football interests me so couldnt care less if he does or doesnt succeed at RM
@jm – hehe.. nice video – love the music !
@CvA:
The rough exit from Spurs and minimum training time with RM certainly did not help.
I think his current form is more an insight into his transfer and personality rather than his talents and abilities.
At Spurs and HNS he is the man. At RM he is support staff for the egomaniacal.
@Mark:
I agree about the EPL and injuries.
I would have preferred him to go to Barcelona, but he would probably ride the pine there as well.
@ Jack V
I agree, the most important thing is that he plays well for Croatia. But I don’t understand was he is playing sub-par. Maybe he is a confidence player and needs to start a string of consecutive games to get into the groove.
However, this is difficult as Xabi Alonso plays his position and he is not going to start over a spaniard.
@ Jack V
I think Modric would’ve done well @ Man U but the probability of getting a major injury would have significantly increased. The English style would’ve caught up to him eventually. I don’t think he’s tough enough for it. It seems those like Luka who possess his style of elusion and finesse are more susceptible to injury in that league.
I think it would’ve been very interesting to see him at Barca actually. In my eyes, Modric is the Messi of the midfield. They possess many of the same qualities and styles. Perhaps Modric and Messi could’ve developed the best 1-2 combo ever seen in soccer.
More realistically though, Modric would’ve likely done really well in the Serie A, based on his style of play; AC Milan, Inter or Juventus or whoever could benefit hugely from a player like that. It seems as if that league doesn’t really scout or welcome many Croatian players. You never hear of them chasing after one of us.
@Zach:
I am not a fan of Man U, but he would probably fit in pretty well there.
Scholes has been long in the tooth for a while.
Man U for me
Re Modric:
Plenty of players have not worked out at RM including Kaka, Robben and VanDerVaart.
As long as he plays well for the HNS, the rest doesn’t interest me all that much.
@ Ziva:
He is like Goldilocks, Spurs were not quite good enough for him and RM doesn’t seem to be a good fit. Where do you think he would shine most?
Too bad man whore Corluka can’t join you guys in Vegas. He’s the guy to party with.
as for the drazen athletic or not condo here’s an amusing petrovic montage of dunks, complete with 80’s music and a killer afro and high shorts rocked by petrovic
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6SrPxUcDd8
@ Zach only if Stimac doesnt bench him for Sammir LOL.
Modric losing confidence man he just didnt need to go there i know its his bank acount and his family is set but man for pride you are not a RM player sorry Raketa good game svaka cast!
Rakitic looking good vs Barca, he definitely has locked up a spot in the XI against Serbia
also gomez goals were tap ins such a lazy striker not like mandzo who hustles.
@ Ivica pavlovic came on in the second half and didnt look that good got burned for 2 goals and body checked roben for yellow and werder were 10 men thats why pavlovic came on look nervus i like him tall player hope he makes it hes only 22
Yikes, Werder got smoked by Bayern 6-1
Mandzukic didnt play, Gomez scored two goals, and Mateo Pavlovic finally got some playing time for Werder. Too bad Bayern scored four goals in the second half when he played, plus Pavlovic got a yellow. Anybody watch that game?
@ Ziva that is a istina! Nas lukica has a nice bank account but no moral and respect hes been a below average player this season he should go to majka rusija 80 posto like all of the repka hahahah
it just gets worse for modric. he gives away a terrible ball at midfield and deportivo takes possession and scores a goal. No help from the real GK or modric on that one.

Heres the Cilic-Nishikori highlights. Skip to 5:50 for the raquet smash, the only good part of the match. Kei hit sooo many good shots.
Also, it looks like Cilic has withdrawn from Delray Beach next week which is dissapointing. Donna Vekic plays in her first tournament since the AO which should be exciting
Remember when Goran won Wimbledon 2001 and said he dedicated it to Drazen.. nice moment
I was going to say, I was born and raised here, never met a single Croatian in my time apart from the handful that turned up to the Korea game a couple weeks ago.
No clue….have met a few hrvati living there, but don’t know if they have an organized community.
London, England
@croathrvat…..London, England or London, Ontario.???
Actually, petrovic was not going to return to the NBA or at least he was leaning that way. He would have been out of contract and was being courted by Real Madrid for a return and Benaton and Milan were preparing big offers.
I got nothing negative to say about him, he was a true leader. But, he is not the best euro to play in the NBA. Others had better careers in the NBA.
Cestitam to CSR!
You have brought together the Croatian Community around a positive conversation (at least 90% of the posters). Borderline miracle.
@ Ziva
Dražen Petrovic is sacred ground. Tread lightly my friend.
He would go at Jordan in his prime. A true champion in bringing awareness to the plight of our newly recognized nation state.
He over trained with weights and lost a bit of his quickness to ensure he would not get pushed around the NBA when hand checking was still legal and Euro’s got ZERO calls.
I assure you NO EURO player since could hold his jock strap.
Dražen was a legend and would have improved his game every season if the autobon did not claim his life.
It seems now we are witnessing a wealth of talent coming out of Croatia.
Much of this has to do with the post-war redevelopment of footballing youth programmes. Youth ranks during the war were in dissary, coaches were drafted, and football wasn’t the main priority.
The effects of this can be seen as there was a lack of technical talent in the early to mid 2000s. These Croat teams relied on grit and heart, but to their credit they did qualify for 2002 and 2004 tourneys.
With footballing youth programmes revitalized after ’95. It’s no coincidence that we are now seeing the fruits of this with some talented technical players.
http://www.hns-cff.hr/selekcije/ulaznice look at the ulaznica it has cirlica hahah Brend stocka lets put it on the stadiums aswell
Here is another kid with potential, David Radman. He is joining the Barca youth ranks. Hopefully he does great things for the national team in the future.

CSR, hvala za stranicu i sve clanove. Cestitom vam petu godinu!
@ Ziva, what do you know about London based Croats?
Unrelated item:
Nice 2013 Modric Youtube montage.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1-DCSb9Zd0
typical Cilic, no surprise.
Wow.. that isnt like Marin to be all smashy ! Disappointing result.. he should really can the doubles stuff and just concentrate on singles for heavens’ sake.. yesterday’s match was long
Guys, congrats on the anniversary. Croatian-Americans like myself appreciate the job you guys do on the site.
PS- Where is the fake Elvis really from?
Cilic loses 6-4, 6-2. Cilic was sloppy, but Nishi played very, very well
Štimac u stručnom stožeru želi Mišu Krstičevića!
http://is.gd/yihv5G
Goes down a set and a break and smashes his racket 4 times into the ground and completely destroys it
Good Cilic-Nishi stream: http://www.vipbox.tv/tennis/138414/2/cilic-vs-nishikori-(atp-memphis)-live-stream-online.html
lol nema ti pomoci
negative……maybe one day, but I have yet to fully embrace twitter.
I leave that you guys, I am sure a bunch of the jock-sniffing crowd is following athletes and celebs on twitter so you know what they are or are not doing.
use your twitter and hit him up with that question. i know your itching to use your twitter account…..
CANT even speak croatian.
Then again, the same can probably be said for a good number of the posters on this site.
Doubtful……… LBJ grew up in the ghetto part of the city. I guess by the same logic we can say he grew up with germans as well.
A few scattered hrvati in Akron proves nothing. No organized community down there. I’m willing to bet most of the hrvati down there can even speak croatian.
I guess Lebron did meet croats in Akron….
I grew up in Akron and currently live in Cleveland. There are a decent number of Croatians in the area. Would be cool to organize something for the Serbia match.
My son started school at Kent State University last September. He wore his Croatian soccer jersey during move-in day and met over a dozen fellow Croats on campus – a few of them from Akron, which is only 8 miles from Kent.
Yeah that’s right. Well i did say elsewhere some time ago one of his advantages is he’s good at pressure moments so im not too surprised by that
Didnt see the last two sets of the Cilic match but apparently he survived 3 BP’s at 5-5 in the 3rd and 4 mp’s in the final tiebreak
Congradulatons to all at CSR on your 5 yr. anniversary ! Ante K. , & Denis keep up the Great work , and may U have 50 yrs. more ! Bog, Hrvati , CSR , i Hajduk !!!
@ Gab http://htv1.hrt.hr/ site usually has live stream from early morning – early evening, just not late night
“it doesn’t matter if u win by an inch or a mile, WINNING’s WINNING !”
Cilic just squeaks by Sijsling, winning 9-7 on the 3rd set tiebreaker. He plays #22 Nishikori tomorrow in the qf’s
Friends… off topic but up until recently I’ve been watching RTL Danas daily on the net most mornings before I go to work in order to learn to speak Croatian better. Lately I’ve been getting the following message: sorry this video is unavailable in your country. I live in the greater Toronto area and was wondering if any of you might know why I’m having this problem or if you know of a better link/site I can use for daily HRV television?
How did u get icon pic Ziva?
Although stream went down at vital moment in final set.. anyway he won altho it was heaps too close for comfort
Hey cool.. thanks for the stream link Zach
Kovacic started again today for Inter in a 3-0 victory. No assists like last game, but he played pretty solid.
Baghdatis is better than cilic
Guys,
Congrats on 5 glorious years of Croatian sports reporting! I am so thankful that I could be a part of it!
Hope to see you soon!
-Ivica
@Zach……agreed. I think Cilic is a very good player in the tennis world. I just dont ever see him breaking into the top 6 or 7. Which is fine, those guys are elite.
Right now the tennis world is at this is level:
Djokovic is king
Followed by Federer, Rafa and Murray
With Del Potro, Ferer, Berdych and Tsonga behind them.
Can Cilic make a move to get behind this third tier? I’m not sure. I think the players who are ranked between 8-20 are all interchangeable. And I don’t see any of them making a move into the top 8 that I mentioned. I don’t think Clic is as good as Tipsarevic, Raonic, Gasquet.
Still not bad to be a borderline top 10 player, but I don’t see Cilic being a guy that will have extended stays at the majors.
@Ziva/Iggy Just goes to show we’re a little to harsh on Cilic some times. All the top guys lose to lower ranked players every now and then
@Nije
Get some video of the strippers.
Strippers are coming to the suite? oh lord help them!
Niko and vida both looked decent in the first half. They need a goal in the second or theyre out
Cilic about to play his 2nd round match here: http://www.firstrow1.eu/watch/170284/1/watch-cilic-vs-sijsling,-atp-memphis.html
#2 seed Milos Raonic lost yesterday
i have a suggestion for vegas. everyone thats on the site should wear nametags with their username. that would be pretty funny.
sorry for the repost. the site was tweaking.
Got owned by Bale though which was great
Lovren had a solid performance, looked very composed. job made easy by the lyon midfield but still a very solid performance. He looked calm and collected and as far as I saw made no mistakes, or stupid fouls. Good to see him shine on the European stage.
@ Ziva,
I’ll get you a pic of my starting XI once I assemble the team…
You boys be careful what you ask for, the more people come…the bigger budget we have. I know I’m Croatian and am supposed to pocket the money (relax everyone) but I have other plans…being in Vegas and all. Also, I’ll be importing some local girls into the mix…
Kvartuc not be good boy after Croatia destroy Serbia…
Best site on the Internet!
Ps: any Vancouver based posters?
Lovren played ok wasnt tested no mistakes.
Kalinic hope he stays away from the Sahovnica.
Strinic only LB in Croatia that gets a chance at moment!
@The Anonymous1…………come on, give my mama credit. She has better equipment that you give her credit for (as I type to you from a dial up AOL connection).
Strinic and Kalinic are eliminated in the Europe Legue. Strinic played 90 minutes in the loss, while Kalinic came of the bench in the 53′ and was sent off with a red card only 10 minutes later.
Dejan Lovren is eliminated too with Lyon but he played the full 90 minutes.

Unrelated but Vida and Kranjcar starting for Kiev in Europa LEague Leg 2
BTW remember we have two Brazils and a Siptar on the NT.
I just got my tickets to the Cro/Serb game which sold out in just a couple of hours. You biatches enjoy your Vegas party aka penis party and ziva u enjoy the game on your 15″ black and white rabbit ears antenna tv in your mamas basement
Well, if its the cleveland area, chances are he met drunk croats more so than hardcore croats.
@Ante…..can you make photos available of these so-called girls.
I live in Pedro but that doesn’t mean i only know people from Pedro… I’m sure he met a few hardcore croats in his life time growing up there…. And yes the croatian ladies over there druel on the colored players that come from the states i know this first hand…
i gotta disagree. i would say dirk nowitzki is definitely the best foreign player of all time. maybe sabonis could have been if he had been in the league when he was younger. in terms of petrovic as an athlete, he seems fine. he’s clearly no jordan but from clips i’ve seen of him, the guy looks pretty quick with the ball
I doubt LeBron knows or has any croatian friends. From what I have heard there is no croatian community in Akron, which is where he is from. His high school teammate currently plays in Zadar and is currently inpregnating the local Zadar skanks.
ahhh c’mon guys…
There’s more girls confirmed right now than guys.
Lebron grew up around Cleveland he prob has a bunch of Cro friends and thats why he prob said what he said. I think his career was too short as well unfortunately but i would put him in the top 10 maybe even 5 due to the success he had in Europe.
What is LeBron smoking when he says Petrovic was athletic???? One of the things that made Petrovic so good was his ability to to be star inspite of his lack of athletic ability. He was usually the slowest guy on thee court and least athletic (unless fat Derrick Coleman was on the court).
It’s an interesting discussion. You can argue Petro was the greatest Euro player ever, but he is no where in the discussion when debating greatest Euro players to play in the NBA. His career in the NBA was too short.
wow 5 years already?!? been here for the whole ride, I forget how I first stumbled upon it
thanks so much for the awesome site!!!

Ziva does that mean your going to Vegas and coming out of the closet? LOL
So, let me get this straight. I have to pay to party with other men (some for sure will be wearing their jock sniffing jerseys) while watching this game on a stream (which means no HD)?????? Sure, why not!!!!!
I hope some of that $160 goes for some hookers/strippers.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2281941/600-000-decade-white-flight-London-White-Britons-minority-capital.html
Since this will be a sausage party will there be any strippers?
@Iggy……….I stand by what I said, Raonic is better than Cilic. So, you wan to base it on one minor tourney result? Fine, I’ll base it o the last two years of play. Wake me up when Colic accomplishes something at a Masters series event.
Five years is HUGE! And I’m thrilled I get to be part of it. Congrats! I think the only website I visit more often than this one is Facebook, and that speaks volumes. Here’s to five more!
LeBron discussing all time greatest European baller.
http://www.index.hr/sport/clanak/lebron-drazen-se-nicega-nije-bojao/663615.aspx
Zach / Ziva: Won’t be seeing Cilic vs Raonic since the latter lost in the 1st round to someone called “Jack Sock”. LOL
What was that about he’s better than Marin Ziva?
*Walks up to Ziva*
*undoes zipper*
“you know what to do..
Only thing u should change is have gravatar or something for user icons : )
It’s been quite the ride, beauty video Ante!
Forgot about a lot of that stuff.
Viva Las Vegas 🙂
Congrats. This is one of my favourite websites. I’m glad there’s CSR. Keep up the good work, you’re my favourite website.
Bravo CSR !
Congrats on your 5th anniversary, i can say i really appreciate the site, having news reported and the opportunity to talk with other Croats from over the globe in this forum. Keep up the good work ! (^__^)
