Marin Čilić is off to the first French Open semifinal of his career!
The 33 year-old from Medjugorje defeated his second Russian and second Top-10 player of the week Wednesday night in Paris. After dismissing #2 ranked player in the world, Daniil Medevedev, in straight sets during the 4th Round, Čilić needed to go the distance with a 5th set tiebreaker win to take down #7 Andrey Rublev.
Čilić looks reenergized in the twilight of his career and is on the verge of Croatian history if he can win his next match. If Čilić can win his semifinal match against #8 Casper Ruud, he will be the first Croatian to play in all four Grand Slam singles finals. Ćilić won the US Open in 2014 and lost to Roger Federer in the 2017 Wimbledon Final and 2018 Australian Open Final.
Sretno, Marin , Geni od kamena, srce vatreno
Cilic imposing sanctions on Russians in ATP tourneys all on his own 😉
Medvedev and Rublev can’t play at Wimbledon and Marin has finished them both off in Paris too.
Have had a blast watching him this tournament. Ajmo!
