After losing the first set 3-6 to world #1 and 16x Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal, Marin Čilić turned into an absolute beast the rest of the way in the Australian Open quarterfinal round Tuesday night in Melbourne. He played without fear and with some of the most aggressive tennis of his life. Čilić would take the second set 6-3 before losing the third set in a tiebreaker. He would rebound in the fourth, winning the set 6-2 with Rafael Nadal picking up a hip flexor/upper thigh injury he could not shake.
Čilić kept his foot on the gas and with a limping Nadal unable to get to many balls he usually would under normal circumstances; retired after the Croatian broke him early in the fifth set. Although the match will go down as Nadal retiring, it is the first time in Čilić’s career he has ever defeated the #1 ranked player in the world.
Čilić will now play unranked Englishman Kyle Edmund in the semifinal round Thursday night. Čilić won their only meeting.
Marin Čilić vs Chung Hyeon in the final
I had a Nadal and Wozniacki double going at $66 to 1, really disappointed.
I also put a fiver on Berdych at $151 to 1, hoping for Berdych now.
Edmund is to tennis what Iceland is to soccer
Chillax, Cilic has got this! His game is dope! Actually don’t know anything about his opponent, but ppl may remember this week as an all-time great sporting week for Croats.
handball has a must win vs france even with a win we can fall out if sweeden beat Norway by more than we beat france
Ajmo marin!
